Kate Austen
Katherine Anne "Kate" Austen is a fictional character on the ABC television series Lost, played by Canadian actress Evangeline Lilly.
Prior to the crash
Born in 1974 and raised in Iowa, Kate is the daughter of diner worker Diane, and Sam, a U.S. Army Ranger and Gulf War Veteran. At an early age Kate's parents divorced, and Diane married an abusive alcoholic named Wayne. When she was a child, Kate was caught trying to shoplift from a store, but was spared when Jacob offered to pay for the stolen merchandise. Jacob asked Kate not to steal any more. As an adult, Kate killed Wayne, which she confessed to her mother before disappearing. Diane called the authorities; thereafter Kate is pursued and ultimately arrested by Edward Mars. Kate then confronted Sam, who revealed that Wayne was her biological father.

What is it about Paris? In my memory, the Wainwright made a port call to Le Havre, France after we earlier visited Portsmouth, England. Several of us went to London for the day. I made a joke as we were leaving port, something like, this is how I like it, roll in to port, raise hell, sneak out at dawn.
