Slavery is the social and legal designation of specific persons as property, for the purpose of providing labor and services for the owner without the right of the slave to refuse, or gain compensation.


servitude

a condition in which an individual lacks liberty esp. to determine his or her course of action or way of life; specifically : the state of being a slave —see also Amendment XIII and Amendment XV to the Constitution
