And why did the government let me get burned so badly? Why have they let this continue? Why am I still here? It is only my special training and experience, and a whole lot of luck, that has kept me alive to this point. And who ever is preventing me from accessing my resources is doing so to get me killed. I have been a sitting duck all this time and I continue to be. There are probably other people that are in as much danger or more because I am being blocked from my life.

Another one of those dreams I feel compelled to record but I am afraid I won't get all the details recorded.

In the first part, I was sitting in a room, seemed to be some kind of waiting room, as in it was a place I was waiting. Some other people, women perhaps, came in there and sat down. Then there seemed to be a bus driver and I realized I was on a bus but I didn't realize it was a bus until I walked out of the room that must have been in the front of the bus, judging by where I walked, and before I went into the area that was the regular area of the bus, I seemed to have heard the bus driver saying something about how those other people should have gotten off. Then I was in the regular area of the bus and there were a lot of people in the seats, some may have turned to look at me, and then I was looking at the front seat, which was empty and I was going to sit there. Then I was exploring a large mansion that seemed to be mine. I wish I could remember some scenes that occurred in that house before I started walking around. I might have been going somewhere
specific but I'm not certain. There are some parts here that I want to remember but cannot. I vaguely remember going down some stairs but not sure. I do remember walking around outside in the yard and I sense there was a pool. I have some vague thoughts about swimming. I also have the vague sense of walls surrounding that location. It was nighttime. I remember opening some doors and I think there was something worrying about that but I cannot explain why and I also thing that part might be out of sequence. A couple women were approaching me on their way somewhere and I think they were asking me who I was or maybe I asked them first who they were. They said something about inspecting "greenery" but I couldn't get a straight answer from them as I followed them towards a gate they were trying to leave through. I wanted to know how often they came by to inspect whatever it was they were there for but I couldn't get a clear answer from them. Then they were
gone and I was walking back towards the house and I think I could see my wife standing on one of the floors of the house. There seemed to be a lot of floors on the house and she was high up. Then a group of dogs was around me and I guess they were guard dogs. A doberman was very affectionate and was pressed tightly to me. There was something about how I had killed another dog.

I'm feeling more comfortable, confident even, that this stuff I am remembering is true. There is still something I am missing though. I suspect that it is something I have to figure out, to remember, to recognize, on my own. It is something I will know when I see. For a while, sometime ago, I was thinking to myself something about how this wasn't over til "the bat lady sings," but I don't know what that means precisely, other than a variation of the well-known phrase. I feel the answer is somewhere in my memory, if I could just grasp it. I felt like I almost remembered something last night, something I wrote more about in my notes, but not sure if I will put it in here. I can't remember that thought now, but it was some kind of family choice, and that half-remembered choice was reflected in something later, but I can't remember.

I've written several times of this experience in terms of that Star Trek:TNG episode where Capt. Picard is assimilated by the Borg. While I do not consider myself a "Trekkie", I like the Star Trek series because I am a fan in general of science fiction, and because I like any good story that captures my imagination. There was a follow-on episode to those episodes of where Picard is captured and it was titled "Family." While I typically like the episodes with more action, I always get a kick out this episode because Picard's brother reminded me so much of my sister, in terms of obvious sibling rivalry. I also found myself envying Picard's character for being able to go back to a home like that, where he has roots. I was watching a movie a few months ago based on John McCain's POW experiences and I was thinking of how a lot of it seemed similar. I was most interested in what it was like for him to come back home after his 6 years in captivity but the movie
seemed kind of light there. I also found myself envying McCain for his family, especially not only being third-generation Navy but a family of notable service to the Navy.

The original air date of this episode was October 1990, and my formal discharge from the Navy was May 1990. I'm not sure when I actually watched this episode though; probably around the 1994 time-frame. It reminds me of a pivotal point back in 1990. I was leaving the Navy and I had absolutely no idea what I was going to do. I had spent the last 6 months overseas so there had been no way to even do any interviews until I was actually out of the service. As luck would have it, a buddy of mine, who I had worked with on the USS Wainwright, recommended me to a company he was interviewing with and I got that job. I got out of the Navy on a Friday and I was working there that next Monday. Coincidentally, the same thing had happened six years earlier where I graduated high school on Friday and was in Navy boot camp the next Monday.

Synopsis

After taking the U.S.S. Enterprise to an Earth-orbiting spacedock for repairs, Picard, still recovering from the injuries he suffered at the hands of the Borg, returns for the first time in twenty years to the 19th century French village where he grew up. He is greeted warmly by his sister-in-law and nephew, both of whom he has never met. However, his meeting with his older brother Robert, who feels that Picard is arrogant, is filled with animosity.

Back in his village, Picard receives an offer from an old friend to head a project on Earth, and is shocked to find himself seriously considering the job. While Picard anguishes over the decision, his brother seizes the opportunity to torment him, telling him he has changed from the unflappable achiever he once was. The argument leads to a brawl that eventually leaves the sibling rivals laughing and covered in mud. They share a tender moment as Picard reveals the guilt he feels over his inability to fight the Borg after they kidnapped him.

As the U.S.S. Enterprise prepares to depart, it is apparent that more than just the starship was repaired. Worf shares a final tender moment with his parents, Wesley says goodbye to a father he finally feels he knows, and Picard, reconciled with his brother, begins his psychological recovery from his trauma with the Borg.

CAPE CANAVERAL, FLA. - NASA's Phoenix Mars Lander, a robotic geologist, roared into space on Saturday, kicking off a 10-month journey to the Red Planet's unexplored north pole.
Phoenix is the centerpiece of a $420 million mission that will attempt the first landing in the Martian arctic.

The probe's robotic arm was designed to dig for water frozen underground and search for signs of chemical activity linked to microbial life.

Evidence of vast amounts of underground ice was uncovered at both poles of the planet by NASA's orbiting Mars Odyssey spacecraft five years ago.

If confirmed by Phoenix, the findings would raise the prospect that cold, desertlike conditions on Mars might once have been warmer and favorable for some form of life. Water would prove a valuable resource for future human exploration as well, according to Peter Smith, the University of Arizona researcher who serves as the mission's chief scientist.

"We are now on our way to do great things on Mars," said Smith.

Saturday's predawn launch atop a Delta II rocket initiated a 423-million-mile journey that will end with a risky landing next year on May 25.

Funny how I don't remember any dreams last night or this morning. I slept about 3 or 4 hours late in the evening and then a few hours later this morning. I don't remember anything. And then there is the way the few foreign dreams I've had lately seemed to be quieter, as if the manipulators were almost whispering or they were transmitting with a lower power setting. I do remember waking up at one point where it sounded like someone was telling Donald Pleasance that he had a taxi waiting for him downstairs to take him to the airport. Pleasance was the guy who was chasing that guy around in those Halloween movies. He also played a blind guy trying to escape from a WW2 German POW camp.

CAPE CANAVERAL, FLA. - NASA's Phoenix Mars Lander, a robotic geologist, roared into space on Saturday, kicking off a 10-month journey to the Red Planet's unexplored north pole.
Phoenix is the centerpiece of a $420 million mission that will attempt the first landing in the Martian arctic.

The probe's robotic arm was designed to dig for water frozen underground and search for signs of chemical activity linked to microbial life.

Evidence of vast amounts of underground ice was uncovered at both poles of the planet by NASA's orbiting Mars Odyssey spacecraft five years ago.

If confirmed by Phoenix, the findings would raise the prospect that cold, desertlike conditions on Mars might once have been warmer and favorable for some form of life. Water would prove a valuable resource for future human exploration as well, according to Peter Smith, the University of Arizona researcher who serves as the mission's chief scientist.

"We are now on our way to do great things on Mars," said Smith.

Saturday's predawn launch atop a Delta II rocket initiated a 423-million-mile journey that will end with a risky landing next year on May 25.

CAPE CANAVERAL, FLA. - NASA's Phoenix Mars Lander, a robotic geologist, roared into space on Saturday, kicking off a 10-month journey to the Red Planet's unexplored north pole.
Phoenix is the centerpiece of a $420 million mission that will attempt the first landing in the Martian arctic.

The probe's robotic arm was designed to dig for water frozen underground and search for signs of chemical activity linked to microbial life.

Evidence of vast amounts of underground ice was uncovered at both poles of the planet by NASA's orbiting Mars Odyssey spacecraft five years ago.

If confirmed by Phoenix, the findings would raise the prospect that cold, desertlike conditions on Mars might once have been warmer and favorable for some form of life. Water would prove a valuable resource for future human exploration as well, according to Peter Smith, the University of Arizona researcher who serves as the mission's chief scientist.

"We are now on our way to do great things on Mars," said Smith.

Saturday's predawn launch atop a Delta II rocket initiated a 423-million-mile journey that will end with a risky landing next year on May 25.

Problems with a relay radio on a satellite orbiting Mars interrupted commands from Earth to the NASA's newly arrived Phoenix lander on Tuesday, delaying plans to flex the spacecraft's robot arm for the first time.


Phoenix touched down on the plains surrounding the Martian north pole on Sunday night.

Bill, thank you very much. And Bob Herbold, thank you for inviting me to come here today. (The next comment refers to the former Army officer who is now in MS training) I had mixed emotions about you leaving the military and coming to work here. (Laughter.) And I'll tell you, I gave you mild applause. (Laughter.)

I might also point out that we have some seats that say, "Reserved for the Cohen staff," that anyone who does not want to stand up can use. Though I like the notion of having standing room only -- (laughter) But if you'd like to have a seat, we have plenty of room up front.

Coming to the Microsoft campus was something of a unique experience, as we landed in a big helicopter and I was commenting that they probably think this is "Red Dawn" -- (laughter) -- or an invasion by aliens, coming in this large helicopter.

But I always think, when I go to a campus, of my oldest son when he graduated from Bowdoin College so many years ago. He always told me about the story of the most popular professor on campus. He was popular -- he was a religion professor -- but he was popular because he always asked the same question every year on the final exam -- (laughter) -- "Discuss the wanderings of St. Paul." And the students, of course, loved him because they would wait until the final couple of days, they'd cram and they'd ace the exam the next day. Except my son's final year, when all the students walked into the classroom, they sat down, and they looked at the exam question and, you know, you could see the hands started to shake, butterflies, some became ill, and they all walked out of the room within about three or four minutes, totally dispirited, except for one student, who sat there and wrote and wrote and wrote.

The question on the exam was, "Discuss the meaning of Christ's Sermon on the Mount." And so the student took the full three hours to fill out his blue books. He finally handed them in to his professor and he walked out the center aisle with what Mark Twain would call the "calm confidence of a Christian holding four aces." (Laughter.)

And the professor looked down at the exam book and it said, "To the experts I leave the meaning of Christ's Sermon on the Mount. As for me, I should like to discuss the wanderings of St. Paul." (Laughter.)
