Reading about them riding in that small transport plane for debriefing reminds me of something similar in my memory, I'm pretty sure I wrote about this a couple years ago. I was leaving the Wainwright to return to the States for the end of my enlistment. We were anchored off Monaco and I had to ride in to port in the Captain's gig. Our Senior Chief, who later became Master Chief, met me on the quarterdeck to shake my hand and send me off. I can't remember his name now, but I remember someone on the Wainwright forum mentioned running into him in Florida a while back. I was traveling to Toulon to catch a MAC flight back to Philadelphia I think it was and from there to Charleston. I think it was about a two hour trip from Monaco to Toulon and I had to travel all the way there in the back of the mail truck, sitting cramped up on a bunch of boxes.

So where was that? France? Toulon France? Maybe. That was my last stop before flying back to the United States, similar to the 1991 film where they are going to Mexico, I was riding from Monaco France to Toulon France in the back of the mail truck and I was seriously hung over from drinking too much and I was crashed on a pile of boxes in the back of the mail truck that would take me to the US military flight back to Charleston SC. A serious windstorm had blown through Monaco just about that time. The plane flew for what seemed to be only a few minutes before we had several hours of wait time at another airport to repair something that had gone wrong with the airplane.

United Airlines Flight 232 was a scheduled flight from Stapleton International Airport in Denver, Colorado, to O'Hare International Airport in Chicago, with continuing service to Philadelphia International Airport. On July 19, 1989, the DC-10 (Registration N1819U) operating the route crash-landed in Sioux City, Iowa, after suffering catastrophic failure of its tail-mounted engine, which led to the loss of all flight controls. 111 people died in the accident
The crew guided the crippled jet to Sioux Gateway Airport and lined it up for landing on one of the runways. However, without flight controls, they were unable to slow down for landing, and were forced to attempt landing at much too high a speed and rate of descent. On touchdown, the aircraft broke apart, caught fire, and rolled over. The largest section came to rest in a cornfield next to the runway.

Defense chief has arm crisis
As defense secretary, Robert Gates has been to the battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan. But it was the path to his front door in Washington on Tuesday night that took him down, even if only momentarily. Falling victim to the hazardous ice sheen that coated much of the region on Tuesday, the former Texas A&M president slipped and fell hard on his right shoulder, fracturing his arm.
His huge loss is a big gain
The world's fattest man, according to the Guinness Book of Records, told AFP on Tuesday he has lost 570 pounds, nearly half his original weight in less time than doctors had expected. Manuel Uribe, of Monterrey, Mexico, weighed 1,257 pounds at his heaviest.
Billy Ray, Miley are clicking now
Billy Ray Cyrus says he and his daughter, Hannah Montana actress Miley Cyrus, simply forgot to buckle up for one of their scenes in their new hit movie. "We got caught up in the moment of filming, and we made a mistake and forgot to buckle our seat belts," the country music star said Wednesday on People magazine's Web site.

A Charleston, W.Va., radio station is observing Valentine's Day with a reminder that Cupid sometimes misses his mark. WKLC-FM is giving away a free divorce. Valentine's Day isn't all hearts and flowers, says WKLC Program Director Jay Nunley. There is a darker side, he said, "where maybe you despise your spouse and resent the entire day."
