If we could just figure out a better way to travel to orbit without these silly rocket boosters, we would be well on our way to exploring more of the solar system and other solar systems. There has got to be a cheap and safe way to cheat gravity. Sometimes I think I know how to do it, but I just can't remember.

Gravitation
Gravitation, or gravity, is a natural phenomenon by which physical bodies attract with a force proportional to their mass. In everyday life, gravitation is most familiar as the agent that gives weight to objects with mass and causes them to fall to the ground when dropped.

Pound–Rebka experiment
The Pound–Rebka experiment is a well known experiment to test Albert Einstein's theory of general relativity. It was proposed by Robert Pound and his graduate student Glen A. Rebka Jr. in 1959, and was the last of the classical tests of general relativity to be verified (in the same year). It is a gravitational redshift experiment, which measures the redshift of light moving in a gravitational field, or, equivalently, a test of the general relativity prediction that clocks should run at different rates at different places in a gravitational field. It is considered to be the experiment that ushered in an era of precision tests of general relativity.

Gravitational field
The gravitational field is a model used in physics to explain the existence of gravity. In its original concept, gravity was a force between point masses. Following Newton, Laplace attempted to model gravity as some kind of radiation field or fluid, and since the 19th century explanations for gravity have usually been sought in terms of a field model, rather than a point attraction.
In a field model, rather than two particles attracting each other, the particles distort spacetime via their mass, and this distortion is what is perceived and measured as a "force". In such a model one states that matter moves in certain ways in response to the curvature of spacetime, and that there is either no gravitational force, or that gravity is a fictitious force.

In that movie Mission To Mars, there is that part where the second team arrive on Mars. The guy that survived for months there alone has lost it to some degree. The woman who lost her husband explains that extended periods of low-gravity can have that effect on the brain. As I write this, I almost feel like something is figuratively tugging at my mind. Anyway, if low-grav does have that effect, there needs to be a mechanism to help someone keep anchored in reality. Either by training them mentally or through artificial means of mind control. This adds weight to my hunch that I have some kind of device implanted in the back of my head. And it probably means it receives FM signals, although it could be any frequency, but FM would make more sense. Although it could be satellite too, really anything is possible without knowing the details. Although the possibilities are limited, I mean, this isn't Star Trek.

For a while now, I have been wanting to write about another memory I have from when I was a kid but never got around to it. I used to imagine a situation where I was falling through the sky and I was thinking about how I would survive the fall. In this memory of this train of thought, I was standing on the trunk of a tree as it was falling through the sky, on its way to hit the earth. How a tree trunk could be so far up in the sky, because it wasn't simply about a tree falling over as I was standing in the top which would make more sense, rather the tree was falling a long distance. So anyway, I imagined that if I waited until the very last second before impact and jumped off the tree trunk, I would gently land on the ground. In my memory, I remember eventually understanding that gravity doesn't work that way, that I was traveling with the same momentum of the tree and I would hit the ground just as hard if I was standing on the tree or not. I wonder why I have that memory.

1996 film "Star Trek: First Contact" DVD video:
Starfleet Lieutenant Commander Geordi La Forge: You know, I wish I had a picture of this.
Dr. Zefram Cochrane: What?
Starfleet Lieutenant Commander Geordi La Forge: Well, you see, in the future, this whole area becomes an historical monument. You're standing almost on the exact spot where your statue's going to be.
Dr. Zefram Cochrane: Statue?
Starfleet Lieutenant Commander Geordi La Forge: Oh, yeah! It's marble, about twenty meters tall, and you're looking up at the sky, and your hand's sort of reaching toward the future.
Dr. Zefram Cochrane: I got to take a leak.
Starfleet Lieutenant Commander Geordi La Forge: "Leak?" I'm not detecting any leak.
Dr. Zefram Cochrane: Don't you people from the twenty fourth century ever pee?
Starfleet Lieutenant Commander Geordi La Forge: Oh, "leak!" I get it. That's pretty funny.

Event Horizon
The ship doesn't really|go faster than light.
It creates a gateway|to jump instantaneously
from one point to another|light years away.
How?
Well, that's difficult to...|it's all math.
Try us, Doctor.
Right. Well, uh,|using layman's terms...
we use a retaining magnetic field
to focus a narrow beam of gravitons.
These, in turn, fold space-time
until the space-time curvature|becomes infinitely large
and you produce a singularity.|Now, the singularity...
Layman's terms.
Well, fuck layman's terms.|Do you speak English?
Imagine for a minute|that this piece of paper...
Uh, excuse me.|That's Vanessa, and that's mine.
This piece of paper|represents space-time,
and you want to get from "A" here...
to "B" there.
Now, what's the shortest|distance between two points?
A straight line.
Wrong. The shortest distance|between two points is zero,
and that's what the gateway does...
it folds...space
so that point "A" and point "B"
coexist in the same|space and time.
When the spacecraft|passes through the gateway,
space returns to normal.
It's called a gravity drive.
How do you know all this?
I built it.
Well, I see why they sent you.
