Reagan OKs test for anti-satellite space weapon

LOS ANGELES - President Reagan gave the go-ahead for the first tests of an anti-satellite weapon in space.
"We have to test, and test now, to restore the military balance," said presidential spokesman Larry Speakes.
The announcement was made Tuesday as Reagan flew here by helicopter from his ranch near Santa Barbara, where he is vacationing.
Reagan made the weapon testing decision Monday, Speakes said, and notified Congress on Tuesday by issuing a required certification.
