Mary Jo Buttafuoco had no idea that when she answered the door to her home on Adam Road West in Long Island, N.Y., on May 19, 1992, her life would be forever changed. At the door was a teenaged girl with flowing brown hair who wanted to know if she was the wife of Joey Buttafuoco. When Mary Jo said she was, the girl suggested that they talk about her husband.
Mary Jo then stepped outside the house and asked the girl what she wanted. To Mary Jo’s surprise, the girl said Joey was having an affair with her 16-year-old sister. Mary Jo brusquely asked the girl who she was and where she lived. The girl told her that she was Ann Marie and she lived on Dolphin Court.
As Mary Jo was talking, she noticed a car parked in front of her house with a young man sitting in the driver’s seat. She asked who was in the car and the girl said that it was her boyfriend. Changing the subject, the girl told her she had proof of the affair and held up a T-shirt with the logo "Complete Auto Body and Fender, Inc." There was no doubt that the shirt was from her husband’s business, but it didn’t strike Mary Jo as proof of an affair, because her husband had given away many of the shirts.
Angered by the girl’s accusations, Mary Jo decided to end the conversation. She demanded that the girl get off her property and Mary Jo turned to go into the house to call Joey. Suddenly, the girl brandished a .25-caliber semiautomatic pistol from her pocket and struck Mary Jo in the head with the weapon. According to Maria Eftimiades in her book, Lethal Lolita, the girl then aimed the gun at Mary Jo’s right temple and fired.
The girl then dropped the shirt she was carrying and the gun and ran off toward the waiting car. The young man sitting in the vehicle ordered her to go back and grab the shirt and the weapon. The girl recovered the items, raced back to the car, and took off down the street.
Three neighbors heard the shots and ran to see where the noise had originated. The men made their way toward the Buttafuocos’ home, where they saw Mary Jo lying sprawled out on her front porch, bleeding profusely from her head. Another neighbor immediately dialed 911, hoping that an ambulance would make it to the scene before Mary Jo died. At the time, she was still alive but her pulse was weakening.
Within minutes, the ambulance was there and they rushed Mary Jo to the hospital. While police attempted to locate her husband, doctors prepared to perform surgery on Mary Jo. They knew they were fighting an uphill battle judging by the horrific wound on her head.

The Confession
On Thursday, November 3, 1994, the ninth day since the carjacking and disappearance of the Michael and Alex Smith, their parents, Susan and David rose early to prepare themselves for interviews on three television network morning programs. Susan and David sat together holding hands on the Russells' living room sofa during their interviews. On CBS This Morning, Susan was asked if she had any involvement in her son's disappearance. Susan answered the question by saying, "I did not have anything to do with the abduction of my children." Susan added that, "Whoever did this is a sick and emotionally unstable person." Although David and Susan were legally separated, when David was asked whether he believed his wife, he replied, "Yes, I believe my wife totally."
After the interviews, Susan and David had been scheduled to sit for an interview with the Union Daily Times, but Margaret Gregory called and cancelled the interview explaining that the couple were exhausted and had enough media attention for the day.
At 12:30 p.m., Susan told her mother that she and David were going to run errands. Susan did not tell her mother that Sheriff Wells had sent for her. Susan was taken to another safe house for another interrogation.
Susan was dressed in jeans and a hooded sweatshirt and brought to her latest interrogation a newly revised statement that said the same things as her previous statement, the only change being that the name "Monarch Mills" had been changed to "Carlisle". Agent Logan asked Susan if she had anything else to add to her statement and she said no. At that point, Sheriff Wells was summoned to speak with Susan.
Susan was beginning to be worn down by the intensive and lengthy interrogations. Susan had also been facing increasingly skeptical news reporters who had started to pressure her for an explanation of Sheriff Wells' statement regarding the unspecified inconsistencies in her story.

The court also finds it appropriate to deny front pay under the equitable doctrine of unclean hands, which “closes the doors of a court of equity to one tainted with inequitableness or bad faith relative to the matter in which he seeks relief, however improper may have been the behavior of the defendant.” Precision Instrument Mfg. Co. v. Automotive Maintenance Machinery Co., 324 U.S. 806, 814 (1945); see also United States v. Philip Morris USA, Inc., 396 F.3d 1190, 1222 (D.C. Cir. 2005) (observing that a district court’s discretion to award equitable relief must operate “within the bounds of equitable doctrines, recognizing defenses like laches and unclean hands”).
The court finds that, during the pendency of this litigation, Fogg misrepresented himself as “Chief Deputy U.S. Marshal Matthew Fogg” in various fora, most notably during testimony before the Congressional Black Caucus on May 10, 1999. See Def.’s Op. Br. (Sept. 29, 1999), Ex. 2 (providing supplemental statement and hearing transcript). He also identified himself as a “U.S. Marshal” on his web page as of September 14, 1999. Id., Ex. 3 at 2. This conduct may amount to a felony criminal offense. See 18 U.S.C. § 912 (providing for a fine or imprisonment of up to three years for one who “falsely assumes or pretends to be an officer or employee acting under authority of the United States . . . and acts as such”). Because Fogg’s misconduct is wholly inconsistent with the duties of a federal law enforcement officer, the court finds it inappropriate to provide prospective relief as if he would be a U.S. Marshal in good standing.
CONCLUSION
Based on the foregoing, Plaintiff’s motion for equitable relief is GRANTED in part and DENIED in part. Judgment in accordance with this opinion shall enter separately.

Our solar system is not alone as an array of planets orbiting in the gravitational embrace of a shining star.
Laying to rest any lingering notion of the sun's family being a singular phenomenon in the universe, astronomers announced Thursday the detection of three large planets around Upsilon Andromedae, a sun-type star 44 light-years away.
Solitary planets had been observed around several other stars in the last four years, but this is the first evidence showing another star accompanied by multiple planets in a stable system bearing some resemblance to the sun's.
The discovery was made independently by two teams, one from San Francisco State University and the other from the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics in Cambridge, Mass., and the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, Colo. They joined in announcing the results on Thursday in San Francisco.
A full report, which has already been reviewed by more than a dozen independent astronomers, has been submitted for publication in The Astrophysical Journal.

The prosecution showed the jury two-videotape re-enactments of Susan Smith's burgundy Mazda rolling down the boat ramp and into the water. During the showing of the videotape of the car filling with water, Prosecutor Keith Giese commented that the rear of the car was rising while the front of the car was filling with water and that Michael and Alex would have faced the lake's water before the water engulfed them. The videotape re-enactment of Susan's Mazda submerging into the lake showed that it took a full six minutes for the car to fill with water before it became completely submerged, because the car's doors and windows were closed.
On Wednesday, July 27, 1995 the prosecution showed the jury pictures taken of Michael and Alex after they had been removed from the Mazda. Judge Howard only allowed photographs showing the brothers' discolored and decomposing legs and arms. The judge would not allow several photos showing the full effects of the nine-day submersion to be shown to the jury. After the presentation of the photos, the prosecution rested its case

I had a very lucid dream just before I woke up that I was trying to catch a airline flight to some place. I might have been trying to go home but I cannot remember any details from the dream, other than what I describe that suggest I was going home. Even the one detail that does suggest that I was going home does not really have the kind of emotional attachment to it that I would describe as suggestive of going home. The dream started off with something about a group of Native Americans that I cannot remember enough detail about to articulate, other than I seemed to walk through of group of Native Americans that were walking some place. There are some other details that I also cannot fully articulate but that I can visualize somewhat and it seems I was out fishing in a lake with some relatives and I caught a fish and it seemed to the only one we had caught. Then I heard someone that I could see say to who ever was listening that we should not eat the fish out of that lake. It did not look very appetizing anyway and seemed to have bruises on it after it had been cleaned. The I was walking some where and that is when I seemed to be trying to catch the airline flight. There are some other details between there that I cannot remember now. I remember that I was carrying some luggage and also several items from the dry cleaners that I had just picked up. One of the items was slipping out the bundle because I did not have the hanger in my hand along with the others. Then I remember from the dream that I walked by Ron Howard as he was walking by me and he seemed to say to someone that I had not seen him or that I had not recognized him. Then I was still walking along through the city, which is vaguely familiar but I am not certain, and I was thinking to myself that I was going to miss the flight because I was running out of time. Then the thought occurred to me that it would not matter if I missed the flight because, due to the arrangements that had already been made, they would put me onto the next flight. This is now the second time the thought has occurred to me as I write this that I am beginning to forget important details from that dream I had just before I woke up in the past hour or so. Then I was in the airport and I was checking in but I am confused about the person who was checking my ticket. I cannot remember enough detail to say for certain but I might have walked behind the counter of a Starbucks and a woman there was checking me in for the flight. She looked at my ID and there is now something I have forgotten but she was saying something about my ID matches my military pension that was published in the paper and she was using a newspaper that I had brought along as the source and I was thinking that I was glad I had brought along a copy of that newspaper. I am not certain why details about me were printed on that newspaper. There was also some detail available to my mind at this point in the dream, and I do not know the source, where I can almost visualize the association with the Jupiter moon Callisto. But I cannot visualize the source of that phrase. I have to guess that the boarding desk had a sigh with something about the Jupiter moon Callisto as though that was the destination of the flight or it was the location I was departing. I think it was the location I was departing because I also have some vague sense of the date 11/28/1976 and I think that detail represents that I was departing the Jupiter moon Callisto for my flight back to Earth. I do not remember any other detail after that in the dream.
