Lucky clover.

One again, this report was materially finished but then just after I finished deciding on the information for this report a song started playing and this paragraph and the song lyrics that follow represent the content the follows. The reason I believe these details are relevant are because of the context of the year 1985 to this report. That reason is emphasized by the fact that the song started playing just as I was about to finish the report. Well, now that is not true. I have since added material information to this report after that song played. The detail associated with the information I added is 'bear' although that was information I have wanted to report on from earlier today. I have confused the topic I started out to report but I wanted to describe how I think that some time in 1985 I lived in the White House for a time and that is when Ronald Reagan ordered me to tell him without hesitation the information I possess in my mind about the future. I travel backwards in time after that, as I was before that meeting.

DURAN DURAN LYRICS

"The Reflex"

"You've gone too far this time"
But I'm dancing on the valentine
I tell you somebody's fooling around
With my chances on the dangerline
I'll cross that bridge when I find it
Another day to make my stand
High time is no time for deciding
If I should find a helping hand

[CHORUS]
So why don't you use it?
Try not to bruise it
Buy time don't lose it
The reflex is an only child he's waiting in the park
The reflex is in charge of finding treasure in the dark
And watching over lucky clover isn't that bizarre
Every little thing the reflex does
Leaves you answered with a question mark

I'm on a ride and I want to get off
But they won't slow down the roundabout
I sold the Renoir and the TV set
Don't want to be around when this gets out

Radio Address to the Nation on Armed Forces Day and Defense Spending

May 18, 1985

My fellow Americans:

Not too long ago one of our Ambassadors visited an American armored cavalry regiment stationed on the NATO line in Germany. As he returned to his helicopter, he was followed by a young 19-year-old trooper. The trooper asked him if he could get a message to the President. Well, the Ambassador said that sometimes getting messages to the President was part of his job. And the young trooper then said, "Will you tell him we're proud to be here, and we ain't scared of nothin."

Well, not long ago the Ambassador was in Washington and told me the sequel to that incident. I'd repeated a story in a talk that was carried on our Voice of America radio program, and there in that base in Germany the young trooper heard the broadcast and knew that I'd received his message. His commanding officer said that he ran down the company street yelling: "The system works! The system works!"

Well, the system does work, but not just because Ambassadors can get messages from a 19-year-old trooper to the President. Our system—this way of life we call democracy and freedom—really works because of the dedicated Americans like that GI in Germany, who've always been willing to defend our way of life from foreign aggressors—from those who do not love freedom and seek to destroy it.

Tupolev Tu-22M

Maiden flight 30 August 1969

Introduction 1972

The Tupolev Tu-22M (NATO reporting name "Backfire") is a supersonic, swing-wing, long-range strategic and maritime strike bomber developed by the Soviet Union.

The first major production version, entering production 1972, was the Tu-22M2 ('Backfire-B'), with longer wings and an extensively redesigned, area ruled fuselage (raising the crew complement to four), twin NK-22 engines with F-4 Phantom II-style intakes, and new undercarriage carrying the landing gear in the wing glove rather than in large pods. These were most commonly armed with long-range cruise missiles/anti-ship missiles, typically one or two AS-4 'Kitchen' anti-shipping missiles.

"Radar contacts! Designate Raid-1, bearing three-four-niner, range four-six-zero miles. Numerous contacts, count one-four-zero contacts, course one-seven-five, speed six hundred knots."

The master tactical scope plotted the contacts electronically, and a pair of plexiglass plates showed another visual display.

"So, here they come," Baker said quietly. "Right on time. Comments?"

"I -" Toland didn't get a chance.

The computer display went white.

"Clipper Base, this is Hawk-Three. We're getting some jamming," reported the senior airborne control officer. "We plot six, possibly seven jammers, bearing three-four-zero to zero-three-zero. Pretty powerful stuff. Estimate we have stand-off jammers, but no escort jammers. Contacts are lost at the present.

Fail-Safe

All I did was repeat what he said.
You didn't freeze up.
Another man might have.
You're the one who didn't, sir.
I wonder what it's like out.
Looked like rain before.
Radio said it would clear
by the afternoon.
The premier, sir.
Yes, Mr. Chairman.
Mr. President...
I have ordered
our long-range missiles...
to stand down from their alert.
Only that part of our defense...
that has a chance
of shooting down your bomber...
is still active.
We do not think
we have much of a chance.
I know.
And yet, this was nobody's fault.
I don't agree.
No human being did wrong.
No one is to be blamed.
We're to blame, both of us.
We let our machines
get out of hand.
Still, it was an accident.
Two great cities may be destroyed,
millions of innocent people killed.
What do we say to them, Mr. Chairman?
"Accidents will happen"?
I won't accept that.
All I know...
is that as long
as we have weapons...
All I know is that men
are responsible.
We're responsible
for what happens to us.
Today we had
a taste of the future.
Do we learn from it,
or do we go on the way we have?
What do we do, Mr. Chairman?
What do we say to the dead?
I think, if we are men...
we must say...
this will not happen again.
But do you think it possible...
with all that stands
between us?
We put it there, Mr. Chairman,
and we're not helpless.
What we put between us,
we can remove.
- Mr. President?
- Yes, Jay.
I can hear the sound of explosions
from the northeast.
The sky is very bright,
all lit up...
