Possibly the very coolest part of Google Maps is how I can find myself completely corrupted of the normal Mercator map view.
I find myself looking at the world and have no idea where I am and I know very well the layout of the globe of the planet Earth.
Fun to navigate through a new perspective that is never possible with just flat paper map.
Well, paper maps can be interesting because there can be no context to the location. A globe perspective will always have a context. Starting with a rectangular map of some indistinct geographical area can be just as interesting.
