I cannot recall the last time I actually saw a rainbow in the sky. Until the one I just saw today. I probably saw a few of them when I was out to sea in the Navy but I can't recall any specific observations. Today I saw one that was unmistakable.
I had most of the content established for this opinion and then I walked across the street for lunch and when I was walking back from there under the partly sunny sky with sprinkling rain – SPRINKLING - I turned to look for traffic on the street and when I looked to the east there it was. A huge rainbow of brilliant colors completely formed and curving across the sky. It looked as though I was looking at a painting someone had made.
By the time I got back to my apartment it was faded to the point of almost being gone and anyone who had not seen it earlier would probably overlook it but I could still see it there. I was reminded of the work I did to report on Tom Clancy's 1998 book "Rainbow Six" and I thought about some of the content I had already established in this note a short while before I saw the rainbow. I had most of the content established but there were a few details I added later that are not so identified.
I also thought about another observation I made after I stop posting in my blog and that I have not written about before. A few weeks ago I found a youtube.com video of an old ABC television movie starring Peter Graves from 1974 called "Where Have All the People Gone." One of the early characters is named "Tom Clancy" and lives in a town called "Rainbow." The dialog establishes that most human beings died and immediately turned to a white powder because of a solar flare but I wasn't that convinced it was a solar flare. That movie had the feel of a television series pilot so there might have been another explanation planned for the series. Anyway, the survivors seemed to have a genetic resistance to whatever killed the other people.

A close friend of mine from Florida has a talking parrot that I’ve never felt very comfortable around. True, I’m not much of a bird person—I prefer my pets’ pelages to be conducive to cuddling; feathers and scales just leave me feeling cold. However, even those without such biases would likely find this particular bird unsettling. It’s a man-hating, ill-tempered, unkempt old creature on the wrong side of forty, known to draw blood from the petting hands it entices through its deceptive cooing. And yet the parrot “speaks” (loquaciously, I might add) with the sweet, crackly voice of a little old lady.
It’s not so much the striking disconnect between the bird’s irritable temperament and the gentle tenor of its voice that makes me uneasy. Rather, it’s the fact that the voice is the voice of my friend’s long-dead, wheelchair bound mother, a sweet-natured woman from whom my friend inherited the bird about twenty years ago.
My friend claims that she finds it comforting to hear her mother’s voice everyday—singing, humming, chuckling, and blurting out the odd quip. Now, she’s a bright, rational person, but secretly I think my friend, at some level, has tangled up her mother’s identity with this peculiar bird. For example, she confided in me once that if the bird were to die, it would feel as if she’s losing a bit of her mother again too.

I was thinking about a dream I had just before waking up this morning and I decided to go for it and see if that dream was relevant to associations with today's date. The associations are compelling and the details I describe about the dream this morning are details really from a dream when I was asleep this morning. I had not checked on any of the associating details until I had been up and after I thought about it while taking a shower. I didn't make the association in my mind with the symbols I saw in the dream to my United States Navy Cross medal until after I got out of the shower and sat down at my desk to think more about it.
The dream I awoke from had me in some kind of residential building. I was sitting in a hallway outside a door of an apartment or condo and I was waiting for other people to join me. We were there to visit my grandmother. Earlier, I had seen myself as a passenger in a car and I had a guitar and I forget the precise dialog I had with the woman who was driving, while other passengers sat in the backseat, but I was trying to match the radio signal on the radio inside my guitar with the radio broadcast from the radio in the dashboard of the car we were riding in. So the sequence of the dream seemed to go from that car, where I recall details about the traffic on the highway, to me sitting in that hallway in that building. At some point, when I was in that hallway, I noticed something unusual about the bottom of my hallux toe on one of my feet. There was indentations on it and I was studying that detail. I noted that the indications formed a perfect 'plus sign.' My first thought was that it was something to do with ions, the negatively charged atoms or molecules. As I was sitting there in that hallway, I said something about those symbols on my toe and I saw "Oscar Goldman" in the only appearance in the dream, ask me "What does that mean?" or "What does that matter?" I forget his precise question. I thought also that looking at the plus signs from an angle, and there was more than one, then it resembled the lowercase letter 'x.' I looked in my shoe to see if something in there had caused it but there was nothing. That seemed to be the point where the people I had been traveling with earlier then arrived in the hallway, and I think they came up via elevator or stairwell, which is a detail I cannot recall, and we were going to then go into my grandmother's home to visit with her. So when I saw the other people arriving, I got up and went the other direction in the hallway and to a door that was close by and that was open and I saw my first knocking on the door and I heard myself calling out words similar to, "Grandma, are you home?" Then I saw a woman come around the corner in her apartment and to the door and I knew right away I was knocking on the wrong door because she wasn't my grandmother and in the dream she was a woman I had never seen before. I saw myself raise my hand and I apologized that I was at the wrong apartment and then I went back down the hallway to the door where I saw everyone else go into and I guess now that was the correct apartment. The dream seemed to end there and I don't recall any other details after that. I think that was the point where I woke up and got out of bed and damnit my back hurts so bad today I can hardly walk and I didn't think I was going to be able to get out of the shower. God, I hate this place.

I had a brief dream where I was in a room somewhere and I was frustrated because I could not talk to Phoebe. In the dream, I could clearly see that I was talking to Ronald Reagan and the timeframe of the dream was when he was President. I was very frustrated because Phoebe did not know where I was or even that I was going to be gone for several times. I was frustrated because she is my wife and that is not good for a marriage that I would be gone for several days and she did not even know that I was going to be gone. I can visualize from the dream where he told me about a phone line I could use for a 15-minute call so that I could let her know that I was not going to be home for a few days.
There was another dream sequence that was not as clear but that seemed to be just before I woke up. The details are vague but I was explaining to someone that Phoebe is actually my wife and that the details known about her in public are different than reality because I am and have been an undercover law enforcement officer.
