Insurrection

“I have friends in college who are looking for summer work; I’m on an aircraft carrier," said Midshipman 2nd Class Chris Pogue of Chesapeake, Va. "I spent time with a SEAL [Sea, Air, Land] team last year. Not a lot of people get to do these things. I get to watch F-14s {Tomcats} land right next to me. How amazing is that?”

Aboard Kennedy, the 20-year-old was exposed to navigation, conning, chart work and engineering. His running mate, Air Traffic Controller 1st Class Paul Greenough taught the political science major a great deal about air traffic control at sea.

I had a really interesting observation I made about Union soldiers in a Prisoner of War camp of the Confederates, but that must be in my journal that I lost as a result of being a POW and United States federal soldier myself, here behind the lines of insurrection in King County, Washington.

Address to the 41st Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, New York

September 22, 1986

In addition to regional disputes, the grave threat of terrorism also jeopardizes the hopes for peace. No cause, no grievance, can justify it. Terrorism is heinous and intolerable. It is the crime of cowards -- cowards who prey on the innocent, the defenseless, and the helpless. With its allies and other nations, the United States has taken steps to counter terrorism directly, particularly state-sponsored terrorism. Last April the United States demonstrated that it will defend its interests and act against terrorist aggression. And let me assure all of you today, especially let me assure any potential sponsors of terrorism, that the American people are of one mind on this issue. Like other civilized peoples of the world, we have reached our limit. Attacks against our citizens or our interests will not go unanswered. We will also do all in our power to help other law-abiding nations threatened by terrorist attacks.

Remarks at a White House Meeting With Members of the American Business Conference

April 15, 1986

Before discussing the topic at hand, let me talk to you briefly about the events that took place last night. Yesterday, as you know, pilots of the air and naval forces of the United States spoke to the outlaw Libyan regime in the only language that Colonel Qadhafi seems to understand. They performed courageously. Two of our airmen are missing. But let us be clear: Yesterday the United States won but a single engagement in the long battle against terrorism. We will not end that struggle until the free and decent people of this planet unite to eradicate the scourge of terror from the modern world.

Terrorism is the preferred weapon of weak and evil men. And as Edmund Burke reminded us: In order for evil to succeed, it's only necessary that good men do nothing. Yesterday we demonstrated once again that doing nothing is not America's policy; it's not America's way. America's policy has been and remains to use only force as a last result -- or resort, I should say. We would prefer not to have to repeat the events of last night. What is required is for Libya to end its pursuit of terror for political goals. The choice is theirs.

Yet let us not underestimate the reach of Qadhafi's terror. He's tried to subvert half a dozen countries on his own continent of Africa and has had Libyan students and dissidents murdered in faraway capitals. And I would remind the House voting this week that this archterrorist has sent $400 million and an arsenal of weapons and advisers into Nicaragua to bring his war home to the United States. He has bragged that he is helping the Nicaraguans because they fight America on its own ground. We do not underestimate the brutality of this evil man, but Colonel Qadhafi ought not to underestimate either the capacity or legitimate anger of a free people.

Gates attacked David Boies, the U.S. Department of Justice's lead attorney in the case.

"I answered truthfully every single question that was put forth," Gates said. "You have to understand that Mr. Boies made it clear in the negotiations leading up to the case that he is really out to destroy Microsoft. He is really out to make all the good work we've done - and make us look very bad. He's a lawyer asking questions using ambiguous terms."

Federal Judge Blasts Microsoft -- Company Accused Of Defaming Expert, Acting In Bad Faith

WASHINGTON - The federal judge in the government's case against Microsoft has accused the software giant of defaming an expert he appointed to oversee the case and acting in bad faith in his court.

In a three-page order, Judge Thomas Penfield Jackson said yesterday that Microsoft's attempts to disqualify a special master by "questioning (his) integrity and impartiality" were based only on innuendo.

These tactics led the judge to consider imposing contempt sanctions on the company's lawyers.

Jackson stopped just short of accusing the company of deceiving the court, saying he found it significant that Microsoft had elected not to make any of its claims about the special master under oath.

Microsoft lawyers were rankled when the special master was appointed in December because the judge did not consult either the company or the Department of Justice about the move.

Lessig was appointed to gather facts in the government case contending Microsoft is illegally using its near-monopoly in operating-system software to force computer-makers to also install its Internet Explorer Web browser, a device that navigates the Internet.

USS Russell (DDG 59)

RADM Russell is most famous for his Civil War heroics in Pensacola Harbor. In command of four small boats, then LT Russell passed through the heavy pounding of shore batteries. After his own coxswain was shot, he grabbed the tiller of his boat and led 100 men to the Confederate Privateer JUDAH. He and his men then jumped to the deck of JUDAH and destroyed it by fire. For his actions he received the following commendation from the Secretary of the Navy:

" An expedition, executed in the face of an enemy so much superior in numbers, with such brilliancy gallantry and success, can not pass without the special recognition of the Department. To those who were engaged in it, not only the Department, but the whole country, it is indebted for one of the brightest pages in that has adorned our naval record during this rebellion. Indeed, it may be placed, without disparagements, side by side with the fairest that adorn our early naval history. "The expedition will give renown, not only to those who were immediately concerned in it, but to the Navy itself - it will inspire others in the service to emulation--its recital hereafter will thrill the heart with admiration. "The Department will cherish the recollection of the exploit, and desires you to express to the officers, seamen and marines who participated in it, its highest admiration of their conduct."

This album might be a 1335.9 week clue from my wife's birthday. It also reminds me of the notion that I survived off the land when I was lost in Africa in 1986 and 1987. Sometimes I had a fire to cook the wild animals I caught for food, sometimes I did not. I also "remember" very clearly when Jim Shea was listening to this album. I believe that Jim Shea is actually some kind of memory-standin for my real life and that his beautiful girlfriend, Phyllis, is actually Phoebe, my wife.

From 7/16/1963 to 2/20/1989 is: 1335 weeks and 6 days

Selling over two million copies, The Raw & the Cooked included number one songs "She Drives Me Crazy" and "Good Thing". Originally appearing on the soundtrack for Something Wild two years earlier was the cover of Buzzcocks' "Ever Fallen in Love?" The title of the album comes from the book of the same name ("Le Cru et le Cuit" in French) written by French anthropologist Claude Lévi-Strauss.

I'm not sure where the 1988 release date comes from for this album, if it is relevant to my real identity, but it is interesting to note because it makes me think of my 15-month escape through Africa in 1986 and 1987. It could be that the album released on vinyl in 1988 and then on compact disc on 10/25/1990. I find that CD release date interesting because of how it relates to 11/25/1986, which is the date I recognize as when my family had a funeral service for me, thinking I had been killed as a prisoner of war in Libya. I was actually running through the continent of Africa, working my way back home.

From 11/25/1986 to 10/25/1990 is: 3 years, 334 days
