World War 4: Sticks and stones may break my bones...

I have written several times about a Navy buddy of mine from the Navy, in the context of my artificial and symbolic memory, named Doug Weise. I can't "remember" the precise spelling of his last name, though; perhaps 'Weise' or 'Wiese.' I think there are several connections to my reality in those artificial "memories" about Doug. One is that I always associate New Jersey with him although I don't "remember" why. He was a U.S. Navy Operations Specialist Second Class Petty Officer who was in Fire Controlman school with me in 1986 and 1987. I was already a Fire Controlman 3rd Class Petty Officer, having been selected for that rating while in the fleet, and he was in school for a rating transfer. When we were in Dam Neck for the computer specialist school, he was Class Leader and I was Assistant Class Leader. Back in the previous school in Great Lakes, north of Chicago, I had been Assistant Class Leader, as well as Assistant Platoon Leader, although I can't "remember" if we called our division a Platoon or some other term. I always want to say it was a Platoon, but then I think that it wasn't called a Platoon.

I can still almost visualize his very attractive girlfriend standing in a yellow bikini on the beach on the U.S. Navy base in Dam Neck, Virginia, and I wondered why I could never find a girlfriend that looked that good. I don't "remember" ever talking to her so I don't "remember" much about her personality. I "remember" that she and Doug were getting married after he transfered to the USS Richmond K. Turner CG-20 in San Diego after we graduated. I had first pick of orders in that class and I took the USS Wainwright CG-28 because my former girlfriend was still there in Charleston and I wanted to get back together with her, in the context of my artificial and symbolic memory.

This is the ship that my half-brother, Kevin Wayne Burgess, from my symbolic and artificial memory, was stationed aboard. He was a U.S. Navy nuclear-qualified Machinists Mate. I couldn't "remember" the name of the ship but I always "remembered" the unique superstructure. I wrote about this detail in my journal a few years ago.

USS Long Beach (CGN 9)

USS LONG BEACH, the third ship in the Navy to bear the name, was the first nuclear powered surface warship in the world and the first large combatant in the US Navy with its main battery consisting of guided missiles. She was also the first American cruiser since the end of World War II to built entirely new from the keel up, and, when completed, boasted the highest bridge in the world. She was also the last warship to be fitted with teakwood decks.

Commissioned: September 9, 1961
Decommissioned: May 1, 1995

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Machinist%27s_Mate

Machinist's Mate (or MM) is a rating in the United States Navy's engineering community.

Some MMs are qualified to work on nuclear propulsion plants. They are designated as MMN (Machinist's Mate Nuclear), though the N is generally only used for the purposes of billiting and advancement exams. These mechanics go through a rigorous training program consisting of fourteen weeks at the Nuclear Field "A" School, twenty-four weeks of Naval Nuclear Power School, and twenty-four weeks at one of four Nuclear Power Training Units (prototypes). Two NPTUs are moored training ships (MTS) using S5W reactors located at the Naval Weapons Station in Charleston, SC., and two additional NPTUs are surface prototype units using a S5W reactor and a S8G reactor located in Saratoga Springs, NY. This course of instruction is commonly referred to as "the nuclear-power pipeline."

I have also written about how one of the married guys in my class at Dam Neck, virginia, from my artificial and symbolic memory, was transfered to the USS Mahan DDG-42, also in Charleston, South Carolina. There were 8 students and one instructor in the class. Our primary instructor had been assigned previously to the USS Worden CG-18. There is also a Worden Field at the U.S. Naval Academy.

Caitlin >>> KATE Lynn

JOURNAL ARCHIVE: August 24, 2006

Today is the day I remember as Caitlin's birthday. I wonder what that means. I seem to recall that I wrote about a possible connection with her birthday, rather this date, but I can't remember what it was.

One of the guys I was in class with in Dam Neck for the Terrier computers went to this ship as I went to the Wainwright, both were stationed in Charleston.

The birth date of my niece Caitlin, from my artificial and symbolic memory, is 8/24/1989, which was 3 years, 4.33 months after 4/14/1986. Her name is pronounced "Cate Lynn." I recognize the date 4/14/1986 as I when I escaped from being a Prisoner of War in Libya and then lived off the land in the wilds of Africa until I completed my escape on 5/13/1987.

All of the Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyers I have reviewed, there have been 4 that were not commissioned on a Saturday. The first was USS Arleigh Burke DDG-51, which was commissioned on July 4, 1991, which was a holiday and a Thursday. The USS Donald Cook DDG-75 was commissioned on the Friday before Monday, 12/7/1998. Bill Gates reportedly stated on that day, as noted earlier, that the U.S. federal government was out to destroy Microsoft.

USS DONALD COOK is the 25th ship in the Navy's ARLEIGH BURKE - class of Guided Missile Destroyers and the first ship in the Navy named after US Marine Corps Colonel Donald Cook.

Commissioned: December 4, 1998

According to the information on the internet, the namesake for USS Donald Cook DDG-75 was alive for 33 years, 3 months, 4 weeks, 1 day. The USS Donald Cook DDG-75 was commissioned during the weekend before I began working undercover at Microsoft. I believe Donald Cook's identity was either completely fabricated or just certain details were changed in support of this prosecution of the insurrection against the United States of America. It is probable Colonel Donald Cook was a real person in the U.S. military, but certain details were changed in order to provide support to my cover identity, which was created to protect my family and for other reasons, such as support against a grave threat to the United States of America.

VIETNAM WAR MEDAL OF HONOR RECIPIENTS

*COOK, DONALD GILBERT

Rank and organization: Colonel, United States Marine Corps, Prisoner of War by the Viet Cong in the Republic of Vietnam. Place and date: Vietnam, 31 December 1964 to 8 December, 1967. Entered Service at: Brooklyn, New York. Date and place of birth: 9 August 1934, Brooklyn New York. Citation: For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty while interned as a Prisoner of War by the Viet Cong in the Republic of Vietnam during the period 31 December 1964 to 8 December 1967. Despite the fact that by so doing he would bring about harsher treatment for himself, Colonel (then Captain) Cook established himself as the senior prisoner, even though in actuality he was not. Repeatedly assuming more than his share of their health, Colonel Cook willingly and unselfishly put the interests of his comrades before that of his own well-being and, eventually, his life. Giving more needy men his medicine and drug allowance while constantly nursing them, he risked infection from contagious diseases while in a rapidly deteriorating state of health. This unselfish and exemplary conduct, coupled with his refusal to stray even the slightest from the Code of Conduct, earned him the deepest respect from not only his fellow prisoners, but his captors as well. Rather than negotiate for his own release or better treatment, he steadfastly frustrated attempts by the Viet Cong to break his indomitable spirit. and passed this same resolve on to the men whose well-being he so closely associated himself. Knowing his refusals would prevent his release prior to the end of the war, and also knowing his chances for prolonged survival would be small in the event of continued refusal, he chose nevertheless to adhere to a Code of Conduct far above that which could be expected. His personal valor and exceptional spirit of loyalty in the face of almost certain death reflected the highest credit upon Colonel Cook, the Marine Corps, and the United States Naval Service.

I recognize the date 9/2/1965 as my first day at Princeton University. I have been thinking I knew the namesake for the DDG-76, but I am not precisely certain how I knew him. He might have been one of my military trainers.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winston_Churchill

Sir Winston Leonard Spencer-Churchill, KG, OM, CH, TD, FRS, PC (Can) (30 November 1874 – 24 January 1965) was a British politician who served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1940 to 1945 and again from 1951 to 1955. A noted statesman, orator and strategist, Churchill was also a soldier in the British Army. He has been studied to a unique extent as part of modern British and world history. A prolific author, he won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1953 for his own historical writings.

As an officer in the British Army, he fought at the Battle of Omdurman and during the Second Boer War. At the forefront of the political scene for almost sixty years, Churchill held numerous political and cabinet positions. Before the First World War, he served as President of the Board of Trade and Home Secretary during the Liberal governments. In the First World War Churchill served in numerous positions, as First Lord of the Admiralty, Minister of Munitions, Secretary of State for War and Secretary of State for Air. He also served in the British Army on the Western Front and commanded the 6th Battalion of the Royal Scots Fusiliers. During the interwar years, he served as Chancellor of the Exchequer.

After the outbreak of the Second World War, Churchill was appointed First Lord of the Admiralty. Following the resignation of Neville Chamberlain in May 1940, he became Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and led the British war effort against the Axis powers. His speeches were a great inspiration to the embattled Allied forces. After losing the 1945 election, Churchill became the leader of the opposition. In 1951, Churchill again became Prime Minister before finally retiring in 1955. Upon his death, he was granted the honour of a state funeral which saw one of the largest assemblies of politicians in the world.

Winston's father, Lord Randolph Churchill, the third son of the 7th Duke of Marlborough was also a politician; Winston's mother, Lady Randolph Churchill (née Jennie Jerome), the daughter of American millionaire Leonard Jerome, was of mostly Colonial American, ultimately English, descent.

The reason that Preble was selected for that particular ship could be because it was the USS Preble that Lt. The Battle of Huế , 1968, was one of the bloodiest and longest battles of the Vietnam War (1954-1975).

The South Vietnamese Army and three understrength U.S. Marine battalions, consisting of fewer than 2,500 men, attacked and defeated more than 10,000 entrenched North Vietnamese and Viet Cong soldiers, taking the city of Huế (pop. 140,000) for South Vietnam.

The Tet Offensive (January 30, 1968 – June 8, 1968) was a series of offensives by the Việt Cộng and the North Vietnamese Army during the Vietnam War.

The operations are called the Tet Offensive as they were timed to begin on the night of January 30–31, 1968, Tết Nguyên Đán (the lunar new year day). The offensive began spectacularly during celebrations of the Lunar New Year and lasted about two months, although some sporadic operations associated with the offensive continued into 1969.

United States v. Microsoft 87 F. Supp. 2d 30 (D.D.C. 2000) was a court case filed against Microsoft Corporation on May 18, 1998 by the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) and twenty U.S. states.

Judge Jackson issued his findings of fact on November 5, 1999, which stated that Microsoft's dominance of the personal computer operating systems market constituted a monopoly, and that Microsoft had taken actions to crush threats to the monopoly, including Apple, Java, Netscape, Lotus Notes, Real Networks, Linux, and others. Then on April 3, 2000, he issued a two-part ruling: his conclusions of law were that Microsoft had committed monopolization, attempted monopolization, and tying in violation of Sections 1 and 2 of the Sherman Act, and his remedy was that Microsoft must be broken into two separate units, one to produce the operating system, and one to produce other software components.

On September 26, 2000, after Judge Jackson issued his findings of fact, in order to save time the plaintiffs attempted to send Microsoft's appeal directly to the Supreme Court. However, the Supreme Court declined to hear the appeal and sent the case to a federal appeals court. The D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals unanimously overturned Judge Jackson's rulings against Microsoft on browser tying and attempted monopolization on grounds that he gave embargoed interviews to the news media while he was still hearing the case, in violation of the Code of Conduct for US Judges [11]. Judge Jackson did not attend the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals hearing, in which Jackson was repeatedly and vehemently denounced by the appeals court judges, who accused Jackson of unethical conduct and determined he should have recused himself from the case[12].

Judge Jackson's response to this was that Microsoft's conduct itself was the cause of any "perceived bias"; Microsoft executives had "proved, time and time again, to be inaccurate, misleading, evasive, and transparently false. ... Microsoft is a company with an institutional disdain for both the truth and for rules of law that lesser entities must respect.
