A lone plant was noticed by Marines growing within the compound of Combat Outpost Chicago, Aug. 14. The plant represents a vast range of what Marines miss most while being deployed in support of operation Iraqi Freedom.

AL TAQADDUM, Iraq (August 14, 2007) – The badge of a military police officer here sits on the left upper pocket of his uniform. Just like any community in the United States, keeping people safe is the responsibility of the base Provost Marshal’s Office. Military police officers with the base PMO manage a precinct, which is home to thousands of critical war-fighters in this area of operations.

Stephen Matthews is promoted to the rank of major by his daughter Jessica, 9, and son Philip, 6, during a ceremony at Leech Lake, Minn., Aug. 1. Stephens was home on leave from Iraq at the time of his promotion. He is the information management officer for the 2nd Marine Logistics Group (Forward) and is currently serving in Al Taqaddum, Iraq.
