USS Cole (DDG 67)

Commissioned: June 8, 1996

USS COLE's Commanding Officers:

June 8, 1996 - 1997 Commander Stewart O'Bryan, USN

About the Ship’s Name, about Sergeant Darrell Samuel Cole:

On August 25 ,1941, Cole enlisted in the Marine Corps for the duration of the National Emergency, and following a boot training at Parris Island, South Carolina, he was appointed to the Field Music School for training as a Marine Corps Field Music, the equivalent of a bugler. Completing instruction, he was transferred to the First Marine Regiment, First Marine Division, and on August 7, 1942, reached the shores of Guadalcanal for the first American offensive of World War II.

Not too happy in his role of field music when he had joined a fighting outfit to fight and after acquitting himself meritoriously as a machine gunner in the absence of the regular gunner, he applied for a change in rating, but was refused due to the shortage of buglers. Cole completed his first overseas tour of duty and returned to the United States in February 1943, where he joined First Battalion, Twenty-Third Marines, then forming as a part of the Fourth Marine Division at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. When the unit moved to California he again asked for relief as a Field Music and for permission to perform line duties, but was again refused due to the shortage of buglers in the Marine Corps.

During the first engagement of the Fourth Division at Roi-Namur in the Kwajalein Atoll, Cole, again forsaking his bugle, went into action as a machine-gunner. Four months later, when the Division stormed ashore at Saipan, he had been assigned to a machine-gun unit. Because of his proven ability in combat, he was designated a machine gun section leader. During the battle when his squad leader was killed, Cole, although wounded, assumed command of the entire squad and acquitted himself in such a manner to be awarded the Bronze Star Medal for "...his resolute leadership, indomitable fighting spirit and tenacious determination in the face of terrific opposition..." , He was also awarded the Purple Heart Medal for wounds received in action.

A few days after the battle of Saipan, Cole, again led his squad ashore in the invasion of the neighboring islands of Tinian, where he continued to live up to his growing reputation as "The Fighting Field Music."

USS Cole (DDG 67)

Commissioned: June 8, 1996

To produce that commissioning date for the USS Cole DDG-67, which I assume the U.S. Navy asked me to create, I would have used the following calculation, using two known dates:

From 7/16/1963 to 6/7/1976 is: 4710 days

4710 divided by 0.3459 = 13,616 days

Those ships are normally commissioned on a Saturday, so that would have been a constraint on the date that was used.

From 3/3/1959, the date 6/12/1996 was 13,616 days later and was a Wednesday. That meant I could select Saturday, 6/8/1996, or Saturday, 6/15/1996, as a commissioning date that would meet the criteria of pointing back to 6/7/1976. I probably chose Saturday, 6/8/1996 because that was one of the days during the 3-day period that began 6/7/1976.

From 3/3/1959 to 6/8/1996 (Saturday) is: 13612 days

From 3/4/1959 to 2/11/1989 is: 1 week, 359 months

HMS Phoebe (F42) was a Leander-class frigate of the Royal Navy (RN). She was, like the rest of her class, named after a figure of mythology. She was built by Vickers on the Tyne. She was launched on the 19th December 1964 and commissioned on the 15th May 1966.

Phoebe was used for the filming of the popular Warship BBC drama during the 1970s, set on board the fictional HMS Hero.

Patrick Stewart OBE (born July 13, 1940) is an Emmy- and Golden Globe-nominated English film, television and stage actor. He is also Chancellor of the University of Huddersfield.[1] Stewart has had a distinguished career in theatre for nearly fifty years, including performances as various characters in Shakespearean productions. However, he is most famous for his roles as Captain Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek: The Next Generation, and as Professor Xavier in the X-Men film franchise.

Stewart was born in Mirfield, West Yorkshire, England to Gladys, a weaver and textile worker, and Alfred Stewart, a Regimental Sergeant Major in the British Army.

The HMS Sheffield was commissioned 34.59 years after the birth date listed for Patrick Stewart. The distance from Mirfield to Sheffield is about 30 miles.

The Duke of Edinburgh has been awarded his pilot's "wings" during a private ceremony at Buckingham Palace.

This is the woman who portrayed "Private Ryans" wife in "Saving Private Ryan" after they got old. She was 59 years, 3 months, 3 weeks, 2 days, old on 5/4/1982, the day the Sheffield was hit. I have noted those places I lived, in the context of my artificial and symbolic memory, such as on a street named Dresden, which was very close to Sheffield street and park. I "remember" watching a baseball game in Sheffield Park one Saturday morning.

I've been thinking for a while that the dreams I have are literal. They are the foreign dreams I used to write, the dreams produced by the manipulators of my thoughts. Don't know what to say about that last one. Jumbled, disturbing, painful. Somebody put in a lot of effort to make me forget those memories, if it is real. There was a scene there straight out the opening of "Saving Private Ryan" except that it seemed to be in the Middle East. And it was something like a pyramid I was running into, and I was by myself and every gun, there were countless guns, was turning towards me. It was sort of like a pyramid I was rushing onto, except that it was elogated, like a castle wall. In another scene, a two-star general or admiral was captured by the enemy. Back in the stretched-pyramid, I was fighting off an attack. Grenades were flying in on me, but I don't recall them going off. Then, I and some of my fellow soldiers seemed to be cleaning the place. A lot of other stuff that is fading from my mind. I feel sad, very sad.

I was thinking again last night about that American Legion award from my symbolic memory. I received it towards the end of my Junior year at Ashdown. I allegedly went to Iraq in my Junior year at the Academy in 1981. I wonder if it represents the Medal of Honor.

I was thinking again about the good-looking woman standing behind me at the Seattle Marathon. She kicked me in the foot and we started talking. Turned out she was going to school in Provo, Utah, and I told her about going there for Ironman Utah 2002. For some reason, I wanted to associate her with Dell Computers. Her mother was from Portland. She called her mother over there at one time, but I think it was just before I went into one of the porta-potties, which we were standing in line for. I saw her again towards as I was running towards Seward Park. She was several miles ahead of me.

It wasn't so much a pyramid, although I keep wanting to call it that, than a very high wall. But it seemed sloped liked the side of the pyramid. It was actually more like a wall, where the enemy resided all along the top, shooting downwards. I managed to get to the top and then fought off a counter-assault of enemy troops. Not sure if I batted away the hand grenades they were throwing or they just didn't go off or they did go off but I wasn't seriously wounded or some combination of all three.

The caption on this next photo says that the officer is a senior Midshipman but I'm not sure about that. At first glance, I would say he has already been commissioned as a U.S. Navy Ensign, judging by the shoulderboards. There is a Midshipman Ensign though, that I found on the internet, that has a similar shoulderboard. The Midshipman also wear shoulders boards, but the non-Brigade Midshipman officer, if I am using the correct terminology, wears a shoulderboard that has a narrower stripe and is easily distinquished from the commissioned officer rank of Ensign. The telling feature may be that the officer appears to have a moustache and I doubt any grade of Midshipman could wear facial hair while attending the U.S. Naval Academy. I also am quite certain that is a photo of me after I had graduated with the Class of 1982 and was commissioned as a U.S. Navy Ensign.

As I look at the image of the Midshipman insignia, it could be that the Midshipman Ensign has the same narrow gold stripe on the shoulderboard as the Midshipman 1/C. The only difference may be that the Midshipman Ensign has the star on the shoulderboard while the Midshipman 1/C has the fouled anchor. If that is all true, then the Midshipman Ensign shoulderboard would be easily distinquishable from the U.S. Navy Ensign shoulderboard and the officer in this photo would obviously be a commissioned officer. And if that is me, I wonder if the date stamp is correct. The Falklands War would have been over by then but I wonder if I was in Lebanon at that time.

And every time I look at that U.S. Navy Ensign standing as he is and how I think he is me, I think I am standing like Jim Morrison of The Doors would pose in a photo. Every time I look at that photo, I think that.

I also think of how my step-sister, Deana, asked me if she could have a football jersey I wore my first year on the De Queen football team. That jersey looked just like those shirts the Plebes are wearing, except that my jersey and the number 62 in the standard location for football jerseys and did not have that U.S. Naval Academy crest on it. I found a photo of Phoebe where she seems to be recording a song and she is also wearing a shirt like those Plebe shirt, except that hers doesn't have the crest on it either, which of course, could have been edited from the photo. I am quite certain that my step-sister, Deana, is a stand-in in my artificial and symbolic memory for Phoebe. It is from when Phoebe and I were friends long before we started dating. The photos of Phoebe from the early 80's resemble Deana. She would be my step-sister, in the context of my artificial and symbolic memory, because the Apollo and Phoebe figures from mythology were brother and sister. I can't "remember" how my step-sister looks though. I just have some kind of unexplained sense that is the reason for that artificial and symbolic memory.

I believe I was a POW for a time, but I escaped during a bombing raid by the Navy when the guards were distracted. They searched for me but I went the last place they expected me to go: into the Sahara. I crossed the desert, and was almost dead but some locals found me and nursed me back to health. I continued my escape and I am thinking that I made my way to Kenya and from there back to the States, maybe in July 1987. My DD-214 has a date in the "Sea Service" field that supports this theory as well as the theory that I was on the HMS Sheffield, as some kind of NATO observer, I guess when that ship was hit. The "Sea Service" field value of 3 years, 9 months, 10 days, is a precise fit of the time period between 5/4/82, which was the date the Sheffield was hit, and 2/14/86, which was the date I believe I was shot down. I think that after I completed my escape in 1987, and returned to the Navy, I did not get to return to Navy fleet aviation as my primary role and instead was assigned to lead a Navy SEAL platoon or team. One theory though is that I was in command of the Blue Angels for at least a year some time after that, maybe 1989. It is my theory that I had once before been a member of the Blue Angels, back when I was a Midshipman at the U.S. Naval Academy.

Dinah Shore was 59 years, 35 weeks, 1 day, old on 11/2/1975. My thoughts suggest I was at this World's Fair and I soon left for the Falklands. I recognize the date 4/30/1982 as when I graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy, but this day is relevant to that as well. My thoughts are that we had some kind of ceremony for me with my family on that day 5/1/1982. I believe that my artifical and symbolic memories about my first day in boot camp in 1984 actually reflect the missile strike on the HMS Sheffield on 5/4/1982.

I woke up from a dream earlier that was Navy related. There were several images that I remembered from the dream that I cannot articulate though. But what I remember is that I was on ship, probably a CVN, and we were part of a group of Navy ships. We were out to sea but it seemed to be a small sea, or maybe a large bay off the ocean. Something about restricted maneuverability; part of the dream I can't articulate. The plot to the dream is that we were opposing an enemy force that was in the same area. It seems there was an enemy carrier there too. I somehow infiltrated the enemy carrier after leaving my carrier. At some point, I can remember trying to determine if two ships far off in the distance and approaching was the Perry-class FFG and Burke-class DDG part of our group. Then I might have been on one of our submarines that was trailing the enemy carrier but I can't actually visualize the submarine. What I can visualize is that I was underwater and I could clearly see 3 enemy submarines guarding the enemy carrier. It seems improbable the I could see such a configuration in real life though as I doubt that would be close enough, even if the water was clear enough, to see all of those ships together like that. I think I might have directed the Burke-class DDG to fire at the enemy submarines. I can't remember what happened after that but I do remember it was an important detail during the dream that the 3 enemy submarines had disappeared. Then I was on the enemy carrier. I planted two small but very powerful bombs and I actually stayed in the compartment where they exploded. I took cover behind something but that seems ridiculous considering that the explosions sunk the enemy carrier. I have some kind of image of a large ocean wave after the explosions. Then I dived out a screen window on the carrier, but the first one I tried going through was too narrow and I dived through the other one, knocking off the screen as I went out, which seems a quirky detail. Then I was falling feet first into the water that was a very long ways below. There were a lot of survivors from the carrier already in the water and I almost hit one as I entered the water. I started swimming and it seemed that it didn't take me very long until I could touch the bottom and I could walk up the shore. There were a lot of people around. It wasn't so much the kind of beach you would imagine, but it seemed to be the kind of crowd you would see at a beach, although I can't remember any people getting suntans. I remember talking to Thedia and her mother but it gets kind of fuzzy at that point. I want to say I was wearing the khaki uniform of a U.S. Navy officer and I had on an orange kapok lifejacket, although it seemed smaller than the kapok's I remember. I think Thedia asked me something about whether I had caused that enemy carrier to sink but I told her I couldn't talk about it. Then I might have activated a rescue beacon in the lifejacket and a USN Seahawk helo flew in and picked me up.

02/06/07 3:37 PM
Some time after I wrote about that dream this morning, I started thinking that what I was really dreaming about was when the troop carrier Sir Galahad was bombed. I started thinking later that I was standing on deck and watched two bombs drop from an Argentine jet and explode near me just before I dived behind a bulkhead or something. There is more to this than I can figure out how to articulate. I just can't put it into words because...I don't know. I guess that after the bombs exploded, I might have been knocked unconscious and by the time I came around, a lot of people had already jumped over board and then I jumped over board. The ship must have been near the shore so it didn't take me long to swim in. I wonder if there isn't something mixed into that dream with the events on the Sheffield and then the Roberts. The three submarines make me think about the Roberts. But, just as I was writing that, I thought, or was it 3rd Marines? Does such a unit even exist? But maybe that is why the submarines - it was actually the Marines, or whatever the British call them, I am not certain.

JOURNAL ARCHIVE: Re: Journal June 7, 2006, Supplemental

It is interesting to look at the map for that one place I lived, in my artificial memory at least, in Charlotte, NC. My street address was Dresden, for which I have felt some discomfort that I don't want to discuss very much, it produces something almost like dread for what I thought was an obvious reason. I started thinking more about it in terms of the Falklands War and I wonder what it means. A close-by street is named Sheffield. And that near-by park named Sheffield is I think where I remember stopping in one Saturday morning to watch some kind of Little League baseball game, which I remember enjoyed watching because it reminded me of playing baseball in my youth. All this, my apartment, the park, most of where I was riding my bicycle, was in between the two main roads Independance and Central. There is also that Sharon Amity street. Also nearby, although I don't remember actually knowing it at the time I lived there and notice it listed on the map, was the Evergreen Cemetary. I was living on Dresden when I was contract working for Microsoft Charlotte, but I can't remember if I was living there when I started or if I was still living at Arrowood.

Now I am thinking about how I graduated high school on a Friday and was in boot camp that following Monday. I believe that was May 12, 1984, and May 15, 1984, respectively. I remember that for a long time, I didn't know what it was they were doing to wake us up in the morning. All I knew was that I was suddenly awake and didn't know why. They were banging on an aluminum trash can. Since those aren't real memories, it must represent something else, something much more dramatic perhaps.

I wrote something similar over two years ago. Goddamnit. I wrote about slow going on a rough road and something about wishing I would find the interstate. I heard my comments in my journal echoed later, as usual, on CNBC. It wasn’t Squawk Box, but that program that is either before or after. There are two people at the news desk. The woman is red haired. The guy on the left said something about it being slow-going behind a barge, providing commentary to video of some waterway around their New York City location. I knew it was an echo of what I had written.

I recognize that I graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy on 4/30/1982. The HMS Sheffield was hit on 5/4/1982. The date 4/30/1982 was a Friday and the following Tuesday was 5/4/1982. I describe an artificial memory below about graduating high school on Friday and then being waken up the first time in boot camp that next Tuesday with them beating on an aluminum trash can.

HMS Sheffield (D80) was the second Royal Navy ship to bear the name Sheffield, after the city of Sheffield in Yorkshire. She was a Type 42 Guided Missile Destroyer laid down by Vickers Shipbuilding and Engineering at Barrow-in-Furness on 15 January 1970, launched on 10 June 1971 and commissioned on 16 February 1975.

The ship was part of the Task Force sent to the Falkland Islands during the Falklands War. She was struck by an Exocet cruise missile fired by a French-made Dassault Super Étendard belonging to the Argentine Navy on 4 May 1982 and finally scuttled on the 10 May 1982.

The sinking of the Sheffield is sometimes blamed on a superstructure made wholly or partially from aluminium, the melting point and ignition temperature of which are significantly lower than those of steel. However, this is incorrect as the Sheffield's superstructure was made entirely of steel[3]. The confusion is related to the US and British Navies abandoning aluminium after several fires in the 1970s involving ships that had aluminium superstructures. The sinking of the Type 21 frigates HMS Antelope and Ardent, both of which had aluminium superstructures, probably also had an effect on this belief though these cases are disputed. In both cases, it is likely the ships would have been lost in any event, due to amount of explosives involved in such small ships, though aluminium fires did break out. Ardent in particular took a severe pounding, suffering eleven bomb hits, five of which exploded; no ship of her type of any era would have been able to survive such an attack.

So it was 1987 when the Stark was hit in the Persian Gulf, which makes no sense that I remember it distinctly as 1986.

I wonder why I have started thinking more about the HMS Sheffield?

There was this guy on the Wainwright, I forget this occupation. Missile Plot had a gyro in it that was maintained by another group, they may have been Electrician Mates, but I'm not sure. They usually had one or two guys from their workcenter down in Plot to stand watch on the gyro. One of the junior guys was from Chile. I remember one time he came down the ladder and dropped onto the floor. Mogge called me over and I checked him out and went back to work. Apparently he had been working in the engine room and was on the verge of heat exhaustion. I had experienced conditions like that myself and could tell from his eyes that he was all right, although I have wondered later if I really should have called a corpsman to look at him. He turned out to be ok though. I remember he also performed the same helo crew role on the Wainwright as I did on the Taylor. He was standing there on deck that day in the Med when our SeaSprite crashed on the deck. Someone joked the Captain and the helo pilot were out there now exchanging insurance cards. There are some photos of the accident on the Wainwright Veteran website. This guy from Chile, I can't remember his name, was telling us about a meeting he had with the Captain, I think it was Chandler. In my memory, he was saying something about getting promoted and that he would be just like me. None of this really happened though I am believing now, and must mean something else. I wonder if I was some kind of military advisor and/or observer with the British Navy during the Falkland War. Chile is right there next to Argentina.

I wonder why I have these memories of two particular training exercises on the Taylor. One was that simulator where the locked us into a ship compartment, banged on the bulkhead to simulate a missile hit, and then flooded the room with cold river water as we were supposed to fix the hole. The compartment would have flooded if I hadn't open a porthole in the bulkhead. Before that was the boiler room simulator where I was the Number 1 hose man and had to go into the building with the water covered with burning oil under the deck grating. I had to push the flames back with the hose and I was so close to hyperventilating that I was breaking the face mask seal of my breathing apparatus. It was also so dark I couldn't see a single thing. I had no idea the fire was even out.

Of all the choices I had for hotels to stay at for Ironman Utah 2002, which I signed up for a year in advance, I stayed at a hotel almost 40 miles from the lake where the race swim course was located. I drove down there every day for swim practice and it was very annoying to be so far away.

I signed up for the inaugural Ironman Utah event in Provo, Utah, just after I completed the Seattle To Portland bicycle event. I completed 200 miles on my bicycle that day and decided I would be ready to complete the Ironman course a year later. I think it was at the end of July 2001 when I completed that course by myself, while I completed it in two days the previous year with two co-workers. I remember the woman at the hotel, back in 1999 or 2000, was almost trying to say I must have hacked into their computer to get one of their hotel rooms reserved online. I thought that was stupid and it stuck in my mind. That was the time at work that Grace asked if she could spend the night with me. I told her the hotel room had two beds. She and the other woman later told me they were also able to get rooms at that same hotel. Earlier, she made some puzzling comments in email at work about my "birth marks" and I found that puzzling. I responded and asked if she worked for the Department of Justice and she suggested that she worked for the Russian mafia.

The Seattle to Portland Bicycle Classic (STP) is an annual one and two day supported bicycle ride from Seattle, Washington to Portland, Oregon in the United States. The STP "is considered one of the 10 biggest recreational bicycle rides in the country, drawing riders from across the nation and from other nations".[1] The ride is organized by the Cascade Bicycle Club. The ride is approximately 200 miles (322 km) in length. Most riders complete the distance in two days; however, about 15% complete the ride in one day.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bono

In 1976, Bono responded to an advertisement by fellow student Larry Mullen, Jr. to form a rock band, as did The Edge (David Howell Evans), Dick Evans, and Adam Clayton. After Dick (nicknamed 'Dik') Evans left the group, the remaining four officially changed the name from "The Hype" to "U2". Initially Bono sang, played guitar, and wrote the band's songs. When The Edge's guitar playing improved, Bono was relegated mostly to the microphone, although he occasionally still plays rhythm guitar and harmonica.

Bono writes the lyrics for almost all U2 songs, often rich in social and political themes.[1] Frequently his lyrics allude to a religious connection or meaning, evident in songs such as "Gloria" from the band's album October and "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For", from the The Joshua Tree album.[5] During the band's early years, Bono was known for his rebellious tone which turned to political anger and rage during the band's War, The Joshua Tree and Rattle and Hum eras.[1] Following the Enniskillen bombing that left 11 dead and 63 injured on 8 November 1987, the Provisional IRA paramilitaries threatened to kidnap Bono. IRA supporters also attacked a vehicle carrying the band members. These acts were in response to his speech condemning the Remembrance Day Bombing during a live performance of Sunday Bloody Sunday.[3] The singer had been advised to cut his on-stage outburst from the Rattle and Hum film, but it was left in.[25]

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Provisional_Irish_Republican_Army

Provisional Irish Republican Army (PIRA; more commonly referred to as the IRA, the Provos, or by some of its supporters as the Army or the 'RA.[2]) is an Irish Republican, left wing[3] paramilitary organisation that, until the Belfast Agreement, sought to end Northern Ireland's status within the United Kingdom and bring about a United Ireland by force of arms and political persuasion. But since the signing of the Belfast Agreement have sought to use purely political ways to achieve it's aims. Since its emergence in 1969, its stated aim has been the overthrow of Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland and their replacement by a sovereign socialist all-island Irish state.[4]

The organisation is classified as an illegal terrorist group in the United Kingdom[5] and as an illegal organisation in the Republic of Ireland.[6] However it is not currently listed as a "Foreign Terrorist Organization" by the United States of America.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Joshua_Tree

The Joshua Tree is the fifth studio album by Irish rock band U2, released on March 9, 1987 on Island Records. It was produced by Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois. The album was massively successful, and is considered to have been U2's worldwide commercial breakthrough. In addition, it has often been praised by music critics as the band's best album and one of the best rock albums of all time. In 2003, the album was ranked number 26 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. The Joshua Tree won the Album of the Year award at the Grammy Awards of 1988.

Themes

Water and desert

Numerous aspects of the album emphasize water and the desert. To begin with, the cover photograph is a black-and-white photo of the band at Death Valley National Park in the desert of California [2], taken by the band's longtime photographer Anton Corbijn; then there is the title of the album, which harkens to the California desert's Joshua Tree. Throughout the album, there are numerous explicit lyrical references to water and desert. Specifically, there are 46 references to the words rain, raining, rainin', rainfall, flood, water, well, sea, ocean, and river. Also, there are 17 references to desert, dry, plain, heat, dust, sunlight, and the sun. Water and desert, poetic equivalents of life and death, loss and redemption, and other diametrically opposed but uniquely linked forces, are thus used for a variety of purposes (which are further explained later):

Reconciling Greg Carroll's death;

Analogizing the duality of American spirit and its oft-ruthless foreign policy;

Setting a tone of the American Southwest, providing a cinematic backdrop for the music - as Bono has said, a canvas on which to paint; and
Creating tone of rusticism, purity, earthiness, piety, rootsiness, and complementing the bluesy/country vibe.

Remarks and a Question-and-Answer Session With Southeast Regional Editors and Broadcasters

May 15th, 1987

The President. Thank you all, and welcome to the White House. I'm delighted we could have a few moments together today, and I'm anxious to get to your questions. But first I thought I'd begin by giving you a little report on two stories that have been coming over the wires. They're what those of you in the newsroom would call developing stories that will be, I hope, a source of increasing focus and interest.

And with that said, let's make it a dialog instead of a monolog. All right?

Iran Arms and Contra Aid Controversy

Q. Mr. President, Bill Sharp from WCSC in Charleston, South Carolina. Mr. President, to those people who might say your Presidency and you have been mortally wounded by the Iran-contra affair, how would you answer those people?

The President. Well, sometimes before I've used a line from an old Scottish ballad to the effect that, yes, I'd been wounded-"I'll lie me down and rest a bit, and then I'll fight again."

What an incredibly lonely photo. I don't know which one was taken first, but the premiere dates for that movie suggest they were taken around the same time. I have also puzzled over my expression in that photo for a long time and then I puzzled over why I was puzzling over my expression in that photo. I also pondered over how she is wearing that silver bracelet and I have on that silver identification band that all the racers wore during the event.

I recognize the date 11/25/1986 as when my family had a funeral service for me, thinking I had been killed when the Libyan prison I was being held at was bombed. In my artificial and symbolic memory, the date 11/25/1986 is when my step-brother, Michael, was killed when he wrecked his pickup truck. I believe that in reality, my family chose the date 11/25/1986 for my funeral service because I was Jim Morrison's total age plus 59 days on that day. In my artificial and symbolic memory, my father was buried in Morrison Cemetery in Noble County, Oklahoma. This movie had probably been completed well before 11/25/1986, but it could have been scheduled to premiere in order to associate with that date, which was when my family had a funeral service for me. The notion here is that I had again beat the odds and made it back home alive.

Release date(s) July 17, 1987

RoboCop is a 1987 cyberpunk action movie and satire of business-driven capitalism, directed by Paul Verhoeven. Filming took place in Detroit, Michigan, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Dallas, Texas filling in for Michigan locales as well. [1] It spawned two sequels, several comic books, multiple video games, two animated series, dozens of action figures and two television series, all featuring a cyborg police officer. The film was produced by Orion Pictures.

The film is set in a dystopian near future, in Detroit, Michigan. Violent crime is out of control, and the city is in financial ruin. The city contracts the megacorporation Omni Consumer Products (OCP) to fund and operate the police department, in effect privatizing it. OCP is not interested in rebuilding "Old Detroit" but with replacing it with a modern utopia called "Delta City". Before this large construction project can begin, OCP wishes to end crime in the city, and creates a superhuman law-enforcement agent known as RoboCop.

RoboCop, set in the near future, included satirical comment that set it apart from other action movies. The film starts with the broadcast of an extremely short television news program called Media Break, with the slogan, "Give us three minutes, we'll give you the world" and even that is interrupted by a commercial-- for discount artificial hearts. Violent crime has nearly overwhelmed the Detroit police force, which has recently been taken over by a large, multinational corporation and Megacorp, Omni Consumer Products (OCP). There are also rumblings of a potential strike by the police, who feel they are being mistreated by OCP. They are also angry about the brutal murders of several of their comrades, masterminded by a well-known crime boss, Clarence Boddicker (Kurtwood Smith). One officer is clinging to life, and the broadcast closes with the smiling Casey Wong cheering, "Good luck Frank!"

As I was just watching this movie, I have symbolic memories from this movie. The part that is just about to come on where the guy gets his head blown off. I can distinctly remember on the Wainwright that I put one of my dog tags on my boot. I associate that detail with this movie. Why would I have such a specific artificial and symbolic memory in that context? Why, in my artificial and symbolic memory, would I "remember" a certain action based on watching a movie in the context of my artificial and symbolic memory? In my artificial and symbolic memory, I put that dog tag on my boot because I "remember" watching this movie in my artificial and symbolic memory.

I assume I had some kind of creative input into the movie before I was shot down by anti-aircraft fire on 2/14/1986 and was a Prisoner of War in Libya. I probably mapped out production and scheduling of these movies years before they were actually created.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Hamburger_Hill

The Battle of Hamburger Hill was one of the most controversial battles of the Vietnam War.

Date May 10, 1969 - May 20, 1969

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamburger_hill

Hamburger Hill is a 1987 American movie starring Dylan McDermott, Steven Weber, Courtney B. Vance, Don Cheadle and Michael Boatman; directed by John Irvin and written by James Carabatsos.

Set in May 1969 during the Vietnam War, the movie is based on the actual assault of the U.S. Army's 3d Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment, part of the 101st Airborne Division "Screaming Eagles", on a well-fortified position, including trenchworks and bunkers, of the North Vietnamese Army on Dong Ap Bia Mountain near the Laotian border. American military records of the battle refer to the mountain as "Hill 937", its map designation derived from its being 937 meters high.

The film realistically depicts the realities of war, combat, courage, camaraderie and dedication to the mission among troops. It also brings up painful questions about war, such as the stigmatizing of replacement troops ("newbies" or, more crudely, "FNGs", for "Fuckin' New Guys") and of the seeming caprice of high command in the Vietnam War, specifically the lack of strategic value of the hill and subsequent unnecessary casualties. Other issues include the effect of anti-war sentiment on morale, and racial tensions among troops (especially the overcoming of racial tension by gradual friendship and earned respect).

The film was distributed by Paramount Pictures, which had only theatrical rights to the film, whereas the video rights were owned by Vestron Video, and in later years by Live Entertainment, Artisan Entertainment, and Lions Gate Entertainment (which also recently acquired the UK video rights with distribution by 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apollo_program

The Apollo program was the third human spaceflight program undertaken by NASA, on behalf of the United States of America. Its goal — “to land a man on the Moon and return him safely to Earth [within the decade of the 1960s]” (in the words of U.S. President John F. Kennedy) — was accomplished on the 20th of July, 1969, with the Apollo 11 landing of astronauts Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and with Michael Collins orbiting above waiting to return his crewmates to Earth. To date, it is the only series of spaceflights to land humans on another world, and thus is widely respected and an inspiration to future spaceflights. The program used the Apollo spacecraft and Saturn launch vehicle, and was conducted during the years 1961 – 1975. It continued into the early 1970s to carry out the initial hands-on scientific exploration of the Moon, with a total of six successful landings. The later Skylab program and the joint American-Soviet Apollo-Soyuz Test Project used equipment originally produced for Apollo, and are often considered to be part of the overall program. As of 2007, there has not been any further human spaceflight beyond low earth orbit since the last mission in the Apollo program, Apollo 17.

Despite the many successes, there were two major failures, the first of which resulted in the deaths of three astronauts, Virgil Grissom, Ed White and Roger Chaffee, in the Apollo 1 launchpad fire (the mission designation was AS-204, which was renamed Apollo 1 in the astronauts' widows' honor). The second was an explosion on Apollo 13, which badly damaged the spacecraft on the moonward leg of its journey. The three astronauts aboard narrowly escaped with their lives, thanks to the efforts of flight controllers, project engineers, backup crew members and the skills of the astronauts themselves (the Ron Howard film Apollo 13 dramatized this event).

The Apollo program, specifically the human lunar landings, are often cited as one of the greatest events in human history.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apollo_program_missing_tapes

The Apollo missing tapes are the missing original recordings of the transmissions broadcast during the Apollo 11 moonwalk. The tapes included Slow-scan television (SSTV) and telemetry data. Videotapes and kinescopes of the Apollo 11 moonwalk made after the scan conversion for viewing on conventional television are not missing

The video of the Apollo 11 moonwalk was transmitted in SSTV format (see Apollo TV camera). The SSTV signals were received by the radio telescopes at Parkes Observatory, the Goldstone tracking station, and Honeysuckle Creek tracking station.[2] This signal was split and sent to a data tape recorder and to equipment so it could be converted to standard TV format for viewing on conventional television and broadcast around the world. The crude real-time scan conversion for world-wide broadcast was not done electronically, but was done by using a conventional television camera pointed at a monitor displaying the SSTV images [3]. The scan conversion reduced the contrast and brightness and introduced noise into the pictures. The raw data was recorded onto fourteen-inch reels of one inch wide, fourteen-track analog magnetic data tapes at 120 inches per second [4].

The Apollo 11 moonwalk video after the scan conversion was recorded contemporaneously onto videotape and kinescope. These recordings exist and are available to the public. (High quality video from the other Project Apollo missions exists and is also available to the public.) If the SSTV tapes are found, modern technology would allow the production of higher quality television pictures of the Apollo 11 moonwalk than were seen by the public.

There are about 2612 boxes that might contain the tapes and whose location is unknown. It is estimated that about 13,000 original magnetic tapes are missing.[6] They might be at Goddard Space Flight Center or another location within the NASA archiving system.

On August 16, 2006 NASA announced its official search. "The original tapes may be at the Goddard Space Flight Center … or at another location within the NASA archiving system", "NASA engineers are hopeful that when the tapes are found they can use today's digital technology to provide a version of the moonwalk that is much better quality than what we have today."[7]

The news that the tapes were missing broke publicly on August 5, 2006 when the printed and online versions of The Sydney Morning Herald published the story with the title One giant blunder for mankind: how NASA lost moon pictures

NASA to search attics for missing moon-walk tapes

By Seth Borenstein

The Associated Press

WASHINGTON — Red-faced because the best pictures of its glory days are missing, NASA said Tuesday it was launching an official search for more than 13,000 original tapes of the historic Apollo moon missions.

What's missing are the never-before-broadcast, clear, original videos — not the grainy, converted pictures the world watched on television more than three decades ago.

The tapes aren't lost, says the NASA official in charge of the search. But he doesn't know where they are.

Most likely they are somewhere at the sprawling Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md., which misplaced the tapes originally. But they also could be stored somewhere else.

The original video, taken directly from the moon and beamed to deep-space network observatories in Australia, has never been seen by the general public or even NASA officials.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comet

A comet is a small body in the solar system that orbits the Sun and (at least occasionally) exhibits a coma (or atmosphere) and/or a tail — both primarily from the effects of solar radiation upon the comet's nucleus, which itself is a minor body composed of rock, dust, and ice. Comets' orbits are constantly changing: their origins are in the outer solar system, and they have a propensity to be highly affected (or perturbed) by relatively close approaches to the major planets. Some are moved into Sun-grazing orbits that destroy the comets when they near the Sun, while others are thrown out of the solar system forever.

Skylab was the first space station the United States launched into orbit. The 75 metric ton station was in Earth orbit from 1973 to 1979, and was visited by crews three times, in 1973 and 1974. It included a laboratory for studying the effects of microgravity, and a solar observatory.

Increased solar activity, heating the outer layers of the Earth's atmosphere and thereby increasing drag on Skylab, led to an early reentry at approximately 16:37 UTC 11 July 1979. Earth reentry footprint was a narrow band (approx. 4° wide) beginning at about 48° S 87° E and ending at about 12° S 144° E, an area covering portions of the Indian Ocean and Western Australia. Debris was found between Esperance, Western Australia, and Rawlinna, Western Australia, 31–34°S, 122–126°E. One cow was killed. An Australian municipality, the Shire of Esperance, fined the United States $400 for littering. [1] In 2004, the History Channel documentary "History Rocks" stated, in an episode covering major events of 1979, that this fine has never been paid.

Skylab's demise was an international media event, with merchandising, wagering on time and place of re-entry and nightly news reports. The San Francisco Examiner offered a $10,000 prize for the first piece of Skylab to be delivered to their offices. 17-year-old Stan Thornton scooped a few pieces of Skylab off the roof of his home and caught the first flight to San Francisco, where he collected his prize. In a coincidence for the organizers, the annual Miss Universe pageant was scheduled to be held a few days later, on 20 July 1979 in nearby Perth, Western Australia. A large piece of Skylab debris was displayed on the stage.

JOURNAL ARCHIVE: July 31, 2006

Right after I read over this crew list from STS-72, I remembered something from the Wainwright. We had a new Fire Controlman report to our division to work in the Fire Control Radar center. I can't remember his name, but I think he had been stationed on the flag ship in the Med that was, I think the Belknap, which was the lead ship the Wainwright belonged to. Apparently because he had been stationed in the Med, unlike the rest of us having been stationed stateside, he used to always say "Ciao." We had a debate in Missile Plot one day about the correct spelling of "ciao." I told them it was spelled "ciao" but someone else said it was spelled as it was pronounced "chow." I decided that this guy from the Belknap would know the correct answer and called over to 55-bravo to ask, but he didn't know. Anyway, maybe this memory is a result of knowing this astronaut named Leroy Chiao. Hell, maybe that was my alias for this flight, now that I think about it. As I wrote, in 2004 I think it was, "Leroy" was one of my nicknames on the Wainwright, as was "Homer" and "Birddog."

The USS Harry S. Truman CVN-75 was commissioned on a date that connects Phoebe's birthday to 11/25/1986. I assume this was created to represent that I made it back to her that time and I was going to make it back to her again. It would be relevant to this current deployment because the ship was commissioned in 1998, which was when I underwent the medical treatment to suppress my real memories from conscious awareness. Those real memories were suppressed and deflected by artificial and symbolic memories.

USS HARRY S. TRUMAN is the eighth NIMITZ - class nuclear-powered aircraft carrier and the first ship in the Navy to bear the name.

When I first saw this photo of this particular F-5 fighter jet, I was reminded of when Thedia used to take us to Lake Greeson, Arkansas, in the summers when I was a kid. Those artificial and symbolic memories also remind me something about "Aquaman" that I can't quite figure out. So anyway, looking at that jet, I "remembered" a miniature toy airplane I was playing with there in the swimming area at Lake Greeson. The toy airplane had a color scheme similar to what I saw on that F-5 fighter jet. I also "remember" that I was very disappointed, in the context of those artificial and symbolic memories, because I dropped the toy airplane in the water and then I couldn't find it.

Maiden flight 11 August 1972 (F-5E)

The F-5A/B Freedom Fighter and F-5E/F Tiger II are part of a family of widely used light supersonic fighter aircraft, designed and built by Northrop in the United States, beginning in 1960s.

The USAF made a combat evaluation of the F-5A under the Skoshi Tiger ("skoshi" is derived from the Japanese word sukoshi, meaning "little," thus the program was "Little Tiger" [2] [verification needed]) program in 1965. 12 aircraft were delivered for trials to the 4503rd Tactical Fighter Wing (subsequently the 10th Fighter Commando Squadron), redesignated F-5C. They performed combat duty in Vietnam, flying more than 3,500 sorties from the 3rd Tactical Fighter Wing at Bien Hoa in South Vietnam. Two aircraft were lost in combat. The program was short-lived, more a political gesture than a serious consideration of the type for U.S. service.

The F-5E eventually received the official popular name Tiger II.

I wish I could remember everything from that dream I was just having; there was a lot to it and a lot of different scenes that were interesting.

In one scene that I can only partially remember, I was in a room and it seems there were a lot of individuals in there. Two that followed me out seem to be connected to the South Vietnamese military. One of them was carrying a flag that has the color pattern I recognized on the F-5 fighter jet a while back. But those two weren't people; they were robots or holograms. I don't really know what they were. They were symbols of something and in that case, they were symbols of my experiences in the Vietnam War. Then I was walking into a room with those two symbols. I think one of those symbols actually pointed me to the correct room. I had been standing out in what I visualize as a hallway and I was waiting for someone. I think I was waiting for a meeting with Patrick Stewart. But I had been waiting in the wrong room. I walked into the room he was sitting with some other people and there was someone unexpected about the other people being there with him. I can't visualize any of those other people. I can visualize though that he was wearing the uniform of "Captain Picard" and he flashed me a grin as I walked in and we shook hands. Then we were standing at a conference table in that room and I can't remember anything else about that part.

In another part of the dream, I was riding in the back of a metro bus. There were people on there I recognized from that past few years. I feel there is a lot to that part of the dream I cannot remember. One person indicated he heard I once had lipo-suction and I explained that I had actually had my memories suppressed. I think that detail about lipo-suction is supposed to be a clue to me to represent a conversation I had with someone about 8 years ago and so I would remember that person even though I didn't see her in the dream. There was a lot to that part I cannot remember and I wish I could remember it all. One interesting part of the dream is that I would sometimes see a reflection on the window glass of that bus of a U.S. Navy pilot wearing a helmet and equipment as though he was sitting in the cockpit of an aircraft. I looked around to see where that reflection was coming from, but I never did see that person sitting there on the bus.

JOURNAL ARCHIVE: Re: Journal June 12, 2006

I was thinking today about the remarkable similarities between a buddy from high school, Ronnie Alexander, and Tom Petty. I wonder if Tom Petty and I went to high school together? Early this morning, I suffered through about the first half-hour of Fast Times At Ridgemont High until I got bored and changed it. I was thinking about how I read they filmed it at Van Nuys High School. There was that one guy, I forget his name, who was an athlete in the movie and when he got out of his sports car, he had an image of a wolf on his jacket. I don't know if that was a VN HS logo, but I think they use the wolf as a school logo.

Looks like Tom Petty is too old to have been in HS with me as his birthdate is listed as 1950. I feel like I probably know him though somehow. I have also been thinking for a few weeks about the name Ronnie associated with Randy Romine, Mom's husband before Denzil. But I don't think we called Randy by the name Ronnie so I'm not sure where that thought is coming from. Maybe it was Randy's father that was named Ronnie, but I am not certain. As far as Ronnie Alexander, I have been trying to remember the name of that other guy that used to run around with us, we were a three-person team in some kind of FFA state contest. I think his name was Francisco, but we called him something else, some nickname. Or Francisco was his older brother's name. I think his last name was Wadkins.

Of all this, probably the realization that I may be from L.A., a native even, produces some really unusal feelings as it is completely out of context with my memories of my youth and what is my perception of growing up in what I guess is a suburb of L.A. I do remember joking with Larry Smith on the Wainwright that I was from L.A., as in Lower Arkansas.

Oh, and when I was watching Fast Times, the synopsis on the tv guide channel reminded of something from high school. Tammie Hood, my close friend from the 11th grade, my close friend the red-head Tammie Hood, wrote in my yearbook something about sex, drugs, and rock-and-roll. I remember thinking I didn't care about the drugs, but two out of three wasn't bad.

I noted earlier that Simpson's episode about Ned being older than everyone realized. I was thinking too about how much older, or more properly, how much longer Data has been in service than those around him. There is something here I think, that connects to how Picard was much older in that final episode, but I'm not sure what it could be. I doubt I am going to find myself younger.

After my girlfriends father corrected me about the enlisted pilot error those years ago, I was then talking about how my dad told me that my uncle, James, had been with the "underground" during Vietnam. I remember that he retired some years ago and had been the manager of a club on some Air Force base. I heard that he had married a wealthy woman who owned a lingerie company.

At first I was thinking that I had attended this school after I graduated high school but before I started the U.S. Naval Academy. But then I started to think that wasn't how it happened. Maybe that is what my double did. He graduated from Van Nuys, went to NAPS, and then I picked it up from there and began attendance at the U.S. Naval Academy. I don't know. It's something like that.

JOURNAL ARCHIVE: Re: NAPSters

This reminds me of a promotional CD between Microsoft and Napster that I got when I worked there, it may have been a program for Microsoft employees. I remember asking Bill Bevan something about if he knew the company policy about downloading music from unauthorized sources. I seem to remember thinking he looked surprised when I asked him that question. Another time I mentioned to him an idea I had about tracking network bandwidth usage per employee.

The thought occurred to me that I had a double attending high school at Van Nuys and I guess he graduated with the Class of 1977 after 4 years of attendance. He might have been friends with Paula Abdul and that was why I was thinking she and I had dated. But it has always been me dating and married to Phoebe. I arranged for her to star in "Fast Times" because I wanted to create a historical marker to point to my experience in Vietnam and, as my girlfriend, she represented one of those opposite characters I wrote of, in terms of artistic devices. I can't actually remember watching her performance in that movie, but from what I read, I assume her part was created to reflect our relationship, but kind of with the roles reversed in certain aspects. I selected Van Nuys because the initials V.N. point to my experience in Vietnam. It's the same reason I "remember" that Thedia had those two red V.W. cars and that was to symbolize that I was flying in combat in the Vietnam War when I was a kid. It is possible that even my real brothers and sisters thought I had really attended Van Nuys High School and then went on to the U.S. Naval Academy, where I really did attend the USNA. We explained that I needed to interact more with people my own age. My family is probably quite confused. They know I have an official United States federal covert identity but even they don't know the full picture. The double was there at Van Nuys when I was in deep space and that was part of the cover.

I don't even know why the hell I am even writing this.

LOS ANGELES (AP) - British music company EMI Group PLC and German media conglomerate Bertelsmann AG said Monday they have agreed to settle a copyright infringement lawsuit over Bertelsmann's connection with the original Napster online file-sharing service.

Terms of the settlement were not disclosed.

The agreement resolves legal claims brought by EMI's recorded music and music publishing units against Bertelsmann. The German company did not admit any liability as part of the settlement.

In a statement, EMI Group Chief Executive Eric Nicoli said, "We can now put this matter behind us and continue to pursue the development of new legitimate digital music business models."

EMI, Vivendi's Universal Music Group and a group of music publishers sued Bertelsmann in 2003 in federal court in San Francisco, alleging Bertelsmann was liable for copyright infringement because it invested in Napster at a time that the popular service was openly allowing computer users to share music illegally.
Napster allowed users to browse each other's MP3 music collections stored on their computers and pluck liberally from them, sharing and swapping for free.

The original Napster went offline in 2001 after a series of court rulings.

Last fall, Universal settled with Bertelsmann for $61.22 million.

Several music publishers still have pending claims against Bertelsmann.

The Navy named two destroyers The Sullivans to honor the brothers: The Sullivans (DDG-68) and The Sullivans (DD-537). These were the first American navy ships ever to be named after more than one person. The motto for both ships was the very motto of the Sullivan brothers, "We stick together."

The President of the United States takes pride in presenting the MEDAL OF HONOR to

COLONEL DAVID M. SHOUP

UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS

for service as set forth in the following CITATION:

For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty as commanding officer of all Marine Corps troops in action against enemy Japanese forces on Betio Island, Tarawa Atoll, Gilbert Islands, from 20 to 22 November 1943. Although severely shocked by an exploding enemy shell soon after landing at the pier and suffering from a serious, painful leg wound which had become infected, Col. Shoup fearlessly exposed himself to the terrific and relentless artillery, machinegun, and rifle fire from hostile shore emplacements. Rallying his hesitant troops by his own inspiring heroism, he gallantly led them across the fringing reefs to charge the heavily fortified island and reinforce our hard-pressed, thinly held lines. Upon arrival on shore, he assumed command of all landed troops and, working without rest under constant, withering enemy fire during the next 2 days, conducted smashing attacks against unbelievably strong and fanatically defended Japanese positions despite innumerable obstacles and heavy casualties. By his brilliant leadership daring tactics, and selfless devotion to duty, Col. Shoup was largely responsible for the final decisive defeat of the enemy, and his indomitable fighting spirit reflects great credit upon the U.S. Naval Service.

Pink Floyd Lyrics

Shine On You Crazy Diamond (I-V) Lyrics

Remember when you were young, you shone like the sun.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Now there's a look in your eyes, like black holes in the sky.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
You were caught on the crossfire of childhood and stardom,
blown on the steel breeze.
Come on you target for faraway laughter,
come on you stranger, you legend, you martyr, and shine!
You reached for the secret too soon, you cried for the moon.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Threatened by shadows at night, and exposed in the light.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Well you wore out your welcome with random precision,
rode on the steel breeze.
Come on you raver, you seer of visions,
come on you painter, you piper, you prisoner, and shine!

Shine On You Crazy Diamond (VI-IX) Lyrics

Nobody knows where you are, how near or how far.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Pile on many more layers and I'll be joining you there.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
And we'll bask in the shadow of yesterday's triumph,
sail on the steel breeze.
Come on you boy child, you winner and loser,
come on you miner for truth and delusion, and shine

This movie starring Phoebe was precisely 20 years after Apollo 11 landed on the Earth's moon. There are strong clues to associate me with the "Buzz" character that is after her character in the movie. I don't ever remember seeing this movie, but I believe it is another work of mine to illustrate that Phoebe is very important to me and I am glad she is part of my life. I just don't understand why the criminal activity targeting us has been allowed to get so bad that we have had to live like this for so long. All they want to do is disrupt our lives. She and I represent the highest aspirations of America and all these cowards want to do us disrupt our lives and to ruin everything I have been trying to do for a woman I have loved for so long and that has been so good to me even though she didn't know all the really good stuff about my life. Can you imagine how important that would be to me? I didn't want the love of an employee.

I have definitely not seen this movie in the past 10, and while this particular section of the "memorable quotes" has changed noticably seen I first started discussing, it is basically the same as when I first noticed it. I also assume this is one of those gifts I wrapped up for Phoebe that she could open in the future. The notion is that there was a lot of stuff she didn't know about me and that I have always wanted her associated with all the good stuff in my life, not unlike those lines in "Gremlins" about Christmas time and 9 years old. I knew there was going to be a time when my private life became public and she has always been the person I wanted to share my life with.

Buzz: This is intimate.

Carson: Let me out.

Buzz: What are you doin' with that guy? I'm insulted. He's completely wrong for you.

Carson: You don't know me, you don't love me, you sure as all damn don't want to marry me, so why don't you leave me the hell alone?

Buzz: I don't think I can.

This was the version I noted on 6/25/2007. I'm not sure why it changed. I guess the one listed below wasn't correct and someone went back and made a precise transcription.

Buzz: I can't.

I'm not sure if I have watched this movie in the past 10 years but I am familiar with it and I think it is hilarious. I was thinking about it a few years ago after I quit Microsoft and wondered if someone had poisoned my food again, although I didn't have any serious complications, unlike the next year, when I almost died and the doctor at the VA was making some suspicious comments for the hidden cameras and prescribing a treatment that was only making my condition more painful, certainly knowing he wasn't helping my condition. I recently purchased a copy of this movie on DVD but haven't watched it yet. I believe this is another movie I had creative input into. It also makes me puzzle over artificial and symbolic memories from the 2nd grade and those memories are certainly all artificial. It probably has something to do with me in Vietnam when I was not much older than 6. Maybe something about flying a helicopter on a long trip.

Space Seed

The Enterprise discovers an ancient spaceship carrying Augments from 1996 Earth.

Summary

In 2267, the SS Botany Bay, a DY-100 class starship, was discovered drifting in space by the USS Enterprise. Because of the fragmentary historical records on the era, the Enterprise crew mistook the ship's crew for refugees from the Eugenics Wars. However, the individuals were all genetically-engineered "super-Humans" and their leader was Khan Noonien Singh, one of the worst tyrants ever seen on Earth.

What's funny about "Fast Times At Ridgemont High," from when I watched it on DVD recently, is that almost all, if not all of it, is a private conversation with "Stacy." It is all girl-talk. Assuming I wrote that script, I think it reflects that I had earned a law degree almost a decade earlier, as I think it was 1973 when I graduated University of Oxford, although I don't actually remember any of that in the conventional sense. But as I was watching that movie, I began to notice that her friend "Stacy" is beginning to question whether Phoebe's character knows what she is talking about and it seems "Linda" is actually making it all up. I assume I was employing similar devices in "An Officer And A Gentleman" where "Lynnette" makes that comment about how something will grow an inch by the time they get liberty. The next time "Zack" sees "Paula" he rubs his hair as a gesture that indeed it had grown at least an inch since then.

The name of the love interest of Phoebe's character in "Fast Times At Ridgemont High" and who I don't think is ever shown in the movie, is "Doug." I found on the internet a script for the movie that indicates his full name is "Doug Stallworth" but the DVD version of the movie I recently purchased did not mention his last name, or at least, I didn't hear it mentioned. Anyway, I have noted that I think I combined many elements of my life, including my relationship with Phoebe, into Phoebe's character and this love interest is one of those elements. Among the examples I noted earlier, the scene with her sitting on the diving board in front of the water in the pool makes me think it represents me sitting in an F-14 Tomcat at one of the forward catapaults as I am about to be launched from the deck of the aircraft carrier. It could be that we called that ramp like structure at the edge of the flight deck a diving board as it that is kind of what it resembles.

JOURNAL ARCHIVE: Thursday, May 31, 2007

I read that article again and I immediately "remember" a girlfriend I had in my artificial and symbolic memory. Her name was Abby and I would see her when we were in port at the U.s. Navy Roosevelt Roads base in Puerto Rico. The P.R. makes me think of my wife, Phoebe Ray.

That has got be what that means. Why else would I have such artificial and symbolic memories? I find myself wanting to say that I am Pink Floyd, but I feel bad for taking all the credit for the work. I don't know if I created it all or I just own all the rights to the work in my real life or what it all means. I don't know.

The actor who voiced "Lisa Simpson's" future husband, in the episode I referred to recently as it relates to Phoebe and me, was 34 years, 5 months, 9 days, old on 5/9/1987, which was 4 days before 5/13/1987. Patinkin was probably cast for that role because that was as close as I could get to a '34-59' artistic device with 5/13/1987.

It's odd - I always thought that was a Hugh Grant voice-over.

The 5/9/1987 date also makes me think of how I found on the internet that Mimi Rogers and Tom Cruise were married on that date and I started wondering if I had actually been married to her before that and they thought I was dead. That notion was supported by George Clooney's "O Brother Where Art Thou" where he was trying to get back to his wife before she re-married while he was in prison for "practicing law without a license," which is probably a play on something the Libyans were saying to me when I was a Prisoner of War in 1986. I thought of that notion also when I read that Lindsay Lohan's dad was in prison for securities fraud, and that reminded me of that scene from "Iron Eagle" where "Colonel Masters" was telling his captors that the trial was a fraud. After reading about that Alabama governor, I have to wonder what really happened with Micheal Lohan and whether that was something I created or whether he was persecuted because of the criminals working to pirate my identity, of which there is tremendous commercial value.

So anyway, I think that Tom Cruise, with his "Top Gun" and "A Few Good Men," as well as actors Bruce Willis and Will Smith, are cast in near-literal portrayals of my real identity. When I pondered over the theory Mimi Rogers and I had been married, I considered such details as a scene in "Lost In Space," which I think I had just seen on television, where she comments that she thought her husband would have made it back. That theory was supported by the scar above "Major West's" eye in that movie and I have noted details that suggest that movie does have a connection with the period I was lost in Africa, which was suspicously almost exactly 10 years after the time I was in space to divert the comet. There were some other observations I wanted to note here related to this topic but then the train of thought escaped me.

I was 59 months, 3 days, old on 2/6/1964. That was also during the 1964 Winter Olympics at Innsbruck, of which I have found other details about that time period I will describe later.

I haven't sat down and watched this whole movie, but I think it has some bearing on my experiences in Africa in 1986 and 1987, although only in the general sense that I was involved in a conflict and was trying to save some people. I don't really know what it means. I wonder about that wound above his eye though, as I have a very noticable scar over my eye that I think occurred in Africa. I think someone made a deep incision with a knife above my eye and I probably thought my eye had been cut out of the socket. I probably had to wear an eye patch for a while as a bandage that covered my eye. In the context of my artificial and symbolic memory, Thedia told me that the scar was from a time I was trying to crawl out, to escape in effect, of a window and the laudromat when I was a young child. She said I was crawling through a window in a brick wall and I cut my eye on one of the bricks, which is kind of hard to reconcile as I don't see how such a precise scar could be created from the edge of a brick, as I would expect the cut to be more jagged. I also have an artificial and symbolic memory of a kid we called "Frazy" being shot with a BB-gun, which left him with a similar cut above the eye as I have.

This was the first episode Ashley Judd was in, as I noticed when I was reviewing it the other day. When I was reading a year or two ago about that episode, just after I began unloading my artificial and symbolic memory, it made me think of Tanzania and Turkana.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tanzanian

Tanzania officially the United Republic of Tanzania (Swahili: Jamhuri ya Muungano wa Tanzania), is a country in East Africa. It is bordered by Kenya and Uganda on the north, Rwanda, Burundi and the Democratic Republic of the Congo on the west, and Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique on the south. To the east it borders the Indian Ocean.

The country is named after Tanganyika, its mainland part, and the Zanzibar islands off its east coast. Tanganyika united with Zanzibar in 1964, forming the "United Republic of Tanganyika and Zanzibar", which later the same year was renamed the "United Republic of Tanzania".[3]

In 1996, government offices were transferred from Dar es Salaam to Dodoma, making Dodoma the country's political capital. Dar es Salaam remains as the principal commercial city.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turkana_District

Turkana District is an administrative district in the Rift Valley Province of Kenya. Turkana is the northwesternmost district in Kenya. It has an international border with three countries: Uganda, Sudan and Ethiopia. Its neighbouring districts in Kenya are West Pokot, Baringo, and Samburu Districts, while Marsabit District is located on the other (i.e. eastern) shore of Lake Turkana.

Yar <<< >>> Ray

This character I describe next was killed off in the episode that aired a few days after the USS Samuel B. Roberts FFG-58 struck an anti-ship mine in the Persian Gulf. We probably did that to make the Microsoft-Corbis-sponsored insurrectionists think they had killed me. Although, that episode was probably created to represent when I was shot down by anti-aircraft fire on 2/14/1986 and was a Prisoner of War. I feel that episode was moved ahead of the planned premiere date in response to the hit on the FFG-58, which I believe also occurred because I was onboard. The FFG-31 was struck precisely 333 days after the Stark had been hit. I have been thinking that I was on the FFG-31 when it hit the mine because that was my first deployment after recovering from my escape across Africa on 5/13/1987, which had actually ended with the missile strike on the Stark. I have been thinking I was onboard the FFG-31 as the leader of a team of U.S. Navy SEAL's because the FFG-31 had been commissioned right around the time of the air strike that broke me out of that Libyan prison. The ship had actually been commissioned for another reason relative to my activities in space in the 60's. At this time in 1988, I believe I was still a U.S. Navy Lieutenant.

I noted that the Windows XP standard desktop background looks a lot like the funeral service scene for "Tasha Yar" in that episode. The Windows XP product released when I was working undercover at Microsoft. The general availability date for Windows XP that I found on the internet was 34.59 months after 12/7/1998.

This episode was probably about me getting shot down over Africa in 1986, which the downed "shuttle" represents, along with "Troi's" captivity.

http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Natasha_Yar

Lieutenant Natasha Yar, better known as Tasha, was a Human Starfleet officer born on Turkana IV, and former security chief on the USS Enterprise-D. Unfortunately, Tasha was killed not even a year into the Enterprise's mission. She was fondly remembered by the Enterprise crew, and an alternate timeline version of Tasha indirectly played a very important role in Romulan politics.

http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Denise_Crosby

Denise Michelle Crosby (born 24 November 1957; age 49) is the actress best known for playing Lt. Tasha Yar during the first season of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Although leaving before the end of the season, she would return to the role in later episodes and would also play Sela, the Romulan daughter of Yar from an alternate timeline.

Born in Hollywood, California, Crosby appeared to be destined for showbusiness. She is the granddaughter of famous crooner and actor Bing Crosby, the daughter of actor and singer Dennis Crosby, and the ex-daughter-in-law of director Blake Edwards. Crosby even began her acting career with a small role in her then-father-in-law's hit romantic comedy 10 (with John Hancock, Michael Champion, Jeanetta Arnette and William Lucking) in 1979. She also appeared in two of Edwards' Pink Panther films, Trail of the Pink Panther in 1982 and Curse of the Pink Panther in 1983. Also in 1983, she appeared in Edwards' The Man Who Loved Women.

First aired: 25 April 1988

The away team discovers an odd tar-like lifeform that, trying to entertain itself, strikes down Yar. She is beamed directly to sickbay in a desperate attempt to save her, but she dies. They beam back down to the planet and try to negotiate with the evil skin. The thing takes Riker and pulls him into the pool of itself.

Deanna learns while talking to the creature that its name is Armus, and she also learns that it was abandoned by someone. When it thinks of its desertion, it becomes very angry with an unfocused anger.

Captain Jean-Luc Picard beams down to the planet and after getting Armus to release Riker, orders everyone to beam back to the ship. Armus allows Picard to enter the crashed shuttle to see Deanna, and Picard tells her that he has a plan.

Armus takes Picard out of the ship and talks to him some more. Picard deliberately makes Armus angry by speaking to it – as Deanna said to do – about its desertion. The unfocused anger that Armus feels allows Worf and Wesley Crusher to beam Troi, Riker, and Picard out and onto the ship.

After out of harm's way, the crew of the Enterprise mourn the loss of Natasha Yar, and watch a hologram that she had made to be watched after her death.

Ensign Robin Lefler

Played by Ashley Judd

Episode: TNG 206 - The Game

Starfleet engineer serving aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-D in 2368, and the compiler of Lefler's Laws. Both her parents served in Starfleet. Lefler had a brief romance with Wesley Crusher, and was instrumental with Crusher in preventing the Enterprise crew from falling prey to an addictive computer game.

Robin Lefler was a Human Starfleet Ensign who was stationed on the USS Enterprise-D in 2368 and became close with Wesley Crusher. Her parents were exobiologists and moved around very often, so Lefler could neither call a place 'home' nor develop friendships, claiming her first friend had been a tricorder.

Lefler served as mission specialist for a mission exploring the Phoenix Cluster. She had a brief romance with Wesley, and she and Wesley foiled a plot by the Ktarians to take over the Enterprise (and subsequently, Starfleet), using an addictive game to get control over the crew. (TNG: "The Game").

Robin Lefler was played by Ashley Judd. Lefler is also featured in the Star Trek: New Frontier series of novels.

In April 2002, ZENtertainment (a now-defunct Hollywood news source) reported "Ashley Judd was on Letterman the other night to promote her new movie, High Crimes. Dave surprised her with a clip of her appearance on TNG, where she went on a date with Wesley Crusher (Wil Wheaton). Judd mentioned that she was reprising the role (of Robin Lefler) in Star Trek Nemesis as Wesley's wife." [1] [2]

This was also reported by About Sci-Fi, which added to the report "... Wil Wheaton, however, says he's heard nothing about that. Somehow, I'm not surprised Wesley doesn't know he’s married."

Later on, "Judd's spokesperson denied this cameo appearance." [3]

In August 2002, Wil Wheaton found out, and reported, that his scene had been cut from Star Trek Nemesis. There was no mention (by him) about Judd or Lefler.

I haven't been able to find the file again, but I noticed something distinctive about the race guide for the Ironman Coeur d' Alene 2004 triathlon. The background image of the first page of the guide they published seemed to be a photo of me. I was pondering over how it seemed to be a photo of me taken from behind me at the start of the 2003 race. I remember that I waited for most of the other racers to start the swim before I did so the beach was relatively empty as I was standing there.

One detail that caught my eye was that there seemed to be a group of other racers arrayed in front of me and they all seemed to have a similar pattern to their swimsuits. It is not uncommon for Ironman racers to have similar swimsuits, but I pondered over those people in front of me in that photo. I noted it in my journal at the time but I wasn't able to find the file again on ironmancda.com when I was looking for it.

I typed "Brookwood apartments" into google.com and it returns the apartments Thedia lived at in Ashdown, Ark. Even a simple search for 'Brookwood' in Ashdown, Arkansas, returns that business. It is relevant because that is the address on my DD-214 form and that is part of my official United States federal undercover identity. I received a copy from the military personnel records center in 2005 and I pondered over how the cover letter was signed by Thomas R. Seville.

Brookwood Apartments is at the intersection of Highway 59 and Constitution Avenue, in Ashdown, Arkansas. Listed next is her specific address on my DD-214 and I have puzzled over 2 details associated with that address, among others there and on the rest of the form. One is about why that part about Little Rock is listed there. That makes no sense. Ashdown is not even close to Little Rock. If it was a suburb, I could understand but they are a long ways apart. The other is a typographic error. It looks like someone typed 'AK' for the Arkansas postal abbreviation and then someone corrected it was an 'AR' that was written over the 'AK' with an ink pen. Considering this document was created specifically as part of my official identity, why make that typo?

ASHDOWN, LITTLE ROCK, AR 71822

JOURNAL ARCHIVE: Wednesday, May 30, 2007

That article I referenced earlier says that Valerie Plame is from Anchorage, Alaska. That must have some bearing on the U.S. military DD-214 that is part of my official federal undercover identity. I was puzzling a while back over some artificial and symbolic memories from long ago of someone confusing the AR postal abbreviation for Arkansas with the AK postal code for Alaska. I was puzzling over why that mistake would be made on my DD-214. Someone incorrectly typed in AK, instead of AR, for Arkansas and then used a pen to turn it into AR. It is barely noticable, now that I think about it, but in my mind, it is huge. Why would such an error exist on a document that was created to support my official federal undercover identity?

I have also puzzled many times over the years about the years about the address in the field 19.a. "Mailing Address After Separation." It contains Thedia Newman's address at Highway 59 and Constitution Avenue in Ashdown, Arkanasas. I puzzled over why the town name was written as Ashdown, Little Rock, AR 71822. I puzzled over that for a long time and I do especially now because Ashdown is no where near Little Rock. If Ashdown was a suburb of Little Rock, I could understand the detail. As I was writing that last sentence, a scene from my artificial and symbolic memory flashed into mind of one time I was talking to Tammie Hood and she was talking about how she expected Ashdown to be a suburb of Texarkana in the near future. That was probably back in the late 80's or early 90's. I don't know why I would "remember" such an artificial memory.

There is a reason I have artificial and symbolic memories about being on Shore Patrol on the USS Wainwright. Someone knows something about that from 1999, too. Clues that are sure to point to my assignments as a guard.

As I wrote, the DD-214 copy I received from Military Personnel Records was created as part of my official cover. Many of the details on those official records represent that I am an agent of the U.S. Intelligence Community. My cover was created specifically for this investigation. One example I wrote of earlier is the NEC number of 1189 on the ‘Primary Specialty’ field of the DD-214. Subtracting 59 from 1189 produces the number 1130. The middle sequence of my Social Security Number is '17' where the letter 'Q' is the 17th letter of the alphabet.

This reference to the Great Salt Desert, the staging area for the rescue attempt, reminds me of that memory on the Taylor. There was a problem with the fresh water machines and we couldn't wash clothes for a while. As I was standing lookout on the bridge at least once a day, my clothes were filthy from evaporated salt water.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iran_hostage_crisis

On the night of April 24, 1980, as the first part of the operation, a number of C-130 transport airplanes rendezvoused with eight RH-53 helicopters at an airstrip in the Great Salt Desert of Eastern Iran, near Tabas.

For some reason, the flag of Turkey reminds me of that camping trip that I went on with Randy Cole and his father, who was a surveyor. That may have actually been sometime around 1980, I need to think more about that to remember for sure. We camped on a mountain in Central- or North Arkansas that was called "where the moon drug." It was a reference to how there was a slope in between two peaks of the mountain, which formed a crescent shape, not unlike the crescent moon. I'm thinking it has something to do with being in Iran in 1980. Also, after I saw that flag of Turkey, I was reminded of a couple girls Mogge and I were hanging out with one day in Italy. We met them while we were visting Pompeii. The Wainwright was in nearby Naples. There is something about them that I associate with Turkey. They had either just come from there or they were on their way there.

I don't know if this 'Order' column means anything relevant, but the first shuttle flight of 1995, STS-63, was number 67 in the order. I was wondering if I was the commander of a shuttle flight in 1995 because that is the year I bought that white Jeep. I also had a car at the time, a burgundy Plymouth Voyager. I traded in my RX-7 for it when I was in Memphis. I think the Plymouth, which was basically a Mitsubishi Esclipse, was a 1993 and I bought it new. I would have liked that car a lot more if it had not been a replacement for that RX-7, which I often later regretted trading in. The Jeep, though, I got in the summer of 1995, July I think. I remember it was really hot around that time, up into the 100s. I left the Jeep dealership, drove home to park my Voyager, then rode my bicycle back to the dealership to get the Jeep.

I was thinking last night about a couple scenes from recent Star Trek movies. One was that scene from "Generations" where Kirk goes into that deflector control room to make some kind of fix to a system. I am wondering if that relates to what I read about the problem with the landing gear on Columbia during STS-1, assuming that info from wikipedia is even true as I haven't verified it yet. The second is from "First Contact" where Riker and LaForge ride along on the first flight of the Phoenix and how none of the people in the context of the movie, would know they were there because they were from the future.

For several days, after I started having those thoughts about the 10-11 that was used to launch the Pegasus rockets, I have been thinking of that scene in "Independence Day" when the AWACs flew into the friction turbulence from the approaching enemy space craft. I have thinking about that memory of the Coke bottle exploding in my face when I was working at Donald Mills store, stocking the soda machine, and feeling as those a piece of glass was in my eye.

In a way, you could think of the Columbia as "Enterprise-B." According to this list of shuttle flights, the Enterprise conducted 5 atmospheric flights prior to STS-1, which used Columbia as the vehicle. In a sense, Columbia was the second shuttle. It is also interesting to note that Columbia returned on April 14, 1981, which was a Tuesday.

Not long after the USS Enterprise-A completed its final mission ... Captain James T. Kirk, Captain Montgomery Scott and Commander Pavel Chekov attend the christening of its successor, the USS Enterprise-B ... On its maiden voyage, the Enterprise receives a distress call from two ships transporting El-Aurian refugees from their homeworld after it was destroyed by the Borg. Captain Harriman debates for a moment, considering the new vessel's diminished capabilities (few vital systems, such as tractor beams, had been installed, as this was something of a test run -- something of a running joke holds that everything will be installed on Tuesday), but decides to respond to the call and help the ships. Upon arrival, the crew find that the two ships are slowly being destroyed by a mysterious orange ribbon of energy: intense gravometric forces in the vicinity of the energy are rapidly compromising the ships' hull integrities, which will eventually lead to complete hull collapse, an explosion, and the death of everyone on board.

[There is something about this too that I can't quite explain, perhaps I crashed landed once in a fighter in a similar fashion:]

A harrowing three minutes later, in which the saucer soars to the surface of Veridian III and slides along the ground for quite some time, removing all vegetation and a significant amount of soil from a long swath, the section shudders to a halt. It is quite obvious that the Enterprise will never fly again.

When I look at a map of the Falklands Islands, I usually, seems like 'always' actually, find myself looking at a place named Goose Green. Just now I remembered a time I took a girl on a date to a comedy club in Charleston. I remember the comedian making a funny local joke. He said: Welcome to Charleston. Gateway to Goose Creek.

The Falklands also has a placed called Pebble Island. As soon as I saw that on the map, I remembered something about Tom Watson winning a pro golf event before the Open Championship in 1982.

Atlantic Ocean (July 28, 2006) – Aboard USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71), an F-14D Tomcat assigned to the "Tomcatters" of Fighter Squadron Three One (VF-31), aircraft number 112, accelerates down the ship’s number three catapult during the final launch of an F-14 Tomcat fighter aircraft. The last launch marks the end of an era for Naval Aviation. The F-14 will officially retire in September 2006, after 32 years of service to the fleet.

Here's a "Rex" again. I wrote a while back about that memory I have of when we lived in the Marine base housing in McAlester, OK. Our babysitter's father was kidding me that Kerry was a girl's name and mom suggested that his name, Rex, was a dog's name.

http://bond.senate.gov/services/dogs.cfm

Ronald Reagan (1981-1989): Reagan's first dog as President was Lucky, a giant sheepdog. Lucky quickly grew too big for Nancy Reagan to control. Often it was Lucky that would take the First Lady on a walk and not the other way around, so the Reagans had to send him to the family ranch in Santa Barbara, California where Lucky would have plenty of room to roam. Reagan soon replaced Lucky with a smaller dog, Rex, a King Charles spaniel.

I don't think America can stand by and hope for the best from a madman, and I believe it is essential — I believe it is essential — that when we see a threat, we deal with those threats before they become imminent. It's too late if they become imminent. It's too late in this new kind of war, and so that's why I made the decision I made.

George W. should have spent more time in the library in the 80s than in the bars.

Casualties

A 15-month-old girl said to have been Libyan leader Colonel Gaddafi's adopted daughter, Hanna, was killed and two of his sons were injured. Gaddafi himself was thought to have been the main target but, although a bomb exploded near his tent and other bombs destroyed his house in the capital, he was not harmed. In all, at least 15 civilians died in the attacks, together with an unknown number of Libyan military personnel.

TR Traps Last Tomcat from Combat Mission

Release Date: 2/15/2006

ABOARD USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT (NNS) -- A chapter in naval aviation history drew to a close Feb. 8 aboard USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71) with the last recovery of an F-14 Tomcat from a combat mission.

Piloted by Capt. William G. Sizemore II, commander, Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 8, Fighter Squadron (VF) 213’s aircraft 204 was trapped at 12:35 a.m. and marked one of the final stages of the Navy’s transition from the F-14 to F/A-18 E/F Super Hornet.

“It’s the end of an era and it just kind of worked out that I was the last trap,” said Sizemore. “This is one of the best airplanes ever built, and it’s sad to see it go away. It’s just a beautiful airplane. It’s powerful, it has presence, and it just looks like the ultimate fighter.”

I had some kind of dream last night suggesting that I did not graduate from the Naval Academy Prepatory School. Maybe that explains my memory of 1984 in Orlando where I did not complete the Basic Electricity and Electronics school for Electronics Technician (ET). Not sure what all that means.

Those memories I have of Kerry Burgess taking college courses while deployed overseas on the Wainwright must mean I spent a lot of time studying in my real life. My favorite class was an Algebra class I got an 'A' in.

AND in Generations, there was a big hole in the Enterprise-B there next to the deflector. The heat tiles on the Columbia, thinking of STS-1, are a good analogy to the Star Trek Deflector Array. AND, after I just wrote those last words, I thought again about something I have been wanting to write about. I'll write more about it later, but I almost lost the fiberglass cover to the WDS on the Wainwright when the wind caught it. I was thinking that had some relevance to losing an aircraft canopy and it slightly resembled in shape a canopy. But the WDS was some kind of predecessor to AEGIS in that it had elements inside of it that sort of resemble the heat tiles from the shuttle. Anyway, the heat tiles of the shuttle deflect the atmospheric friction from destroying the ship just as the Deflector Array does in a similar fashion but for items that would be encountered in space, such as meteroids.

http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Deflector_dish

The navigational deflector (also called the deflector dish, the deflector array or the nav deflector) is a component of many starships, and is used to deflect space debris, asteroids, microscopic particles and other objects that might collide with the ship. At warp speed the deflector is virtually indispensable for most starships as even the most minute particle can cause serious damage to a ship when it is travelling at super-light velocities.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thermal_Protection_System

The space shuttle thermal protection system (TPS) is the barrier that protects the space shuttle during the searing 3000° F (1649° C) heat of atmospheric reentry. A secondary goal is protecting from the heat and cold of space while on orbit.

Aha....maybe that is what that Simpson's episode means, the one where the latch on the shuttle hatch breaks and Homer uses the "inanimate carbon rod" to fix it. I made a joke to Vince about that one day at work.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/STS-1

STS-1 was the first test flight of what was, at the time, probably the most complex spacecraft ever built. Unsurprisingly, there were numerous problems – 'anomalies' in NASA parlance – on the flight, as many systems could not be adequately tested on the ground or independently. Some of the more serious or interesting were:

During reentry a protruding tile gap filler ducted hot gas into the right main landing gear well, which caused significant damage including buckling of the landing gear door[1]. Also, a tile next to the right-hand External Tank (ET) door on the underside of the shuttle was incorrectly installed, leading to excessive re-entry heating and melting of the part of the ET door latch.

Thinking about STS-1, assuming I was there.

There was that traffic accident in my Ford Explorer pickup in 1986 in Terra Haute, Indiana. I was turning left and a car hit me square on my right wheel, remarkably causing no body damage and only flattened the tire. The impact twisted the truck around and I almost hit a light pole but I regained control and ended up on the sidewalk. An observer said she was speeding. I was traveling from Orlando to Great Lakes.

There was that time I was refurbising the manifold valves on that Blue Chevrolet. I put the carburetor, rather the timing mechanism is was attached to, I think, in wrong and it caught fire when I started the engine. Put the fire out with my hat. Afterwards, I chastised Micheal for running away but he explained that he had been running to the nearby creek to get some water to throw on it.

This more likely the source of the satire:

NASA learns that its Nielsen ratings have declined. Concerned about declining popularity, they decide to send an "average Joe" into space. Their rationale is that the public is tired of seeing "clean-cut, athletic go-getters".

As I thought more about “Cossatot,” the word “cassock” kept coming to mind. I looked it up and it reinforced something I have been thinking about since I watch the “Matrix Reloaded” movie a few days ago. The character Keanu Reeves portrayed was wearing something similar to a Cossack that is illustrated in the photos on this wiki page. And that garment “Neo” was wearing, especially with the buttons, is exactly like the garment I was wearing in that dream I wrote about a while back. It was the one where the U.S. Navy Lt.j.g walking down the stairs and passing by me as I was walking out the door said something about how I was a little “off.” In that dream, I looked down and straightened the buttons, sort of like “Captain Picard” does when he stands up.

I had some kind of important dream last night but can’t remember it now. It was some kind of important message. I want to say it was something I should feel proud of but that doesn’t really explain. It was a positive message but I can’t articulate what it was because I don’t remember the dream. But I have learned to trust my instincts on such clues so I am sure I will soon understand it all.

Previous journal entry: 9/22/2006 5:11 PM

After I awoke from a nap this afternoon, I felt compelled to write about a dream I had just before I woke up but then did not write about it. I started feeling that need to write about it again but may have forgotten some details by now. I have started thinking that the dreams I have just before waking up mean something in their own right.

In the dream, I was wearing a Navy uniform. I didn’t have anywhere to go though and seemed to be just walking around what I guess was a Navy installation. I decided to go into a building to ask if another Commander was still there even though I knew he wasn’t there. I spoke to a Navy enlisted person who appeared to be an Airman judging by his three green stripes although I couldn’t make out his rating symbol. He asked me a question but I didn’t hear his question and I asked him to repeat it by saying “Sir?” to him with an inquisitive tone. He asked me how I could not know that the other Commander was already deployed and I said something about how I just did not know. I left and walked down and out on some kind of spiral staircase, although that part isn’t that clear and I find myself wondering about that part. There was another spiral staircase ahead of me, there seemed to be dual staircases on either side of the front door to that building, and a Lt. j.g. came down the other side. I want to say he was someone I should know but I can’t picture him as someone I knew. I want to say it was him that spoke something to me at that point but I also want to say the voice came from behind me. He said, or someone else said, something about me being “a little off.” I wondered if he meant that I was wrong about some of these details. Then I wondered if he meant I was a little crazy, but I think I started thinking that last one after I woke up. I think after he or someone said that, it made me start thinking about the uniform I was wearing. I found myself thinking after I awoke that it seemed to be a Marine Corps officers dress uniform. I seemed to be wearing the dark blue Marine uniform with white pants. But I am confused about one detail as it seemed I looked to my left shoulder and saw Navy shoulder boards with Captain stripes. Or was it just an epaulet, I am not sure, but there was a pair of sunglasses clipped under it. I was walking down the sidewalk and there were two people ahead of me. One may have been that Lt. j.g. Another was a female officer, Navy I guess. Somewhere along there I realized I had forgotten to wear the appropriate cover for that uniform and realized that I was still wearing a ball cap, although I had actually taken it off as I went outside. I realized I couldn’t return anyone’s salute. Then I started thinking that the ball cap had USS Wainwright printed on it but I don’t remember actually looking at it and I may remember that detail in the sense that someone was reading details to me, they were telling me what the name was on the cap. I also remember that it had a frayed bill just like the Nike cap I have now. I remember I was walking very slowly. It was hard to walk and I was limping. I have thought several times before that if I do start wearing the uniform again, I should use a cane until I get my leg back in better shape. Then I was in a parking garage and I had to cross a street into a parking lot, I guess to find my car. I am still not sure about the uniform and I remember it seemed to be a single-breasted coat-type of uniform but the Navy uniform is double-breasted. But the Marine uniform doesn’t have shoulder boards as far as I know. That is what I thought the j.g. was telling me, that I only had a few minor details wrong, such as I had transferred over to the Marines at some point. I have written about that in the past too, but I am not sure what it means.

Previous journal entry: 9/22/2006 5:59 PM

That junior officer may have just been telling me that my uniform needed adjustment as I remember straightening out the front of it and lining up the buttons after that.

Previous journal entry: 9/22/2006 10:31 PM

I was thinking later that the junior officer, who I thought was obviously Navy, was wearing the same uniform as I. Maybe it was an old USN uniform, maybe a style that was worn in the USN over one hundred years ago.

One of those details I forgot to write is at the end of that dream. As I was walking to the parking lot, I guess to my car, I was planning to stop at the supermarket to get some ice cream.

What I was wearing that dream was exactly what “Neo” was wearing in the second movie. It is similar to the one with the caption about the Anglican priest.

And of course. Cossatot River, Mike Reeves. It makes sense.

JOURNAL ARCHIVE: Re: Journal May 26, 2006, Supplemental

Earlier in my notes, I remember a time when I got out of boot camp, the same day I think. Three of us, still wearing our dress whites, rented a car and headed to the beach for the weekend. I was driving but didn't know how to get to Daytona. The next thing I remember, we were at the gated entrance to some facility. The security guard asked if we were "lost." We were at the entrance to Cape Canaveral.

After that event with the 9-point deer I shot, we went home and Denzil wanted to do some work on the roof over the garage. It was not so much a garage as a patio for my mom's car that we added on to the house after we bought it. The part I remember from that is how tired I was. It was excruiating trying to stay awake. I don't remember actually doing any work on the roof though, but I remember that something was being done to it. I remember standing there feeling miserable wishing I could be somewhere else. And why were we doing this after what I had just done?! Something else here I can't quite remember.....

On the night of that bad fight, where I was shot down in the bar, I had gone out by myself that night. I have been thinking more about that today and something seemed unusal, uncharacteristic, about that, as I never went out by myself. Something had happened the night before but I can't remember what it was, other than just a memory that something happened.

There was another time, a buddy of mine from further down Hicks Road, was complaining one day when we were driving. He was saying something about how I always got the best locations during our organized hunts. He wasn't so much envious as just complaining that I didn't take more advantage of the situation, whatever that means.

This one day, I remember my mom crying because she thought I was probably lying dead somewhere in the woods, one particular hunting season. I had got out of class early, something to do with final exam and not having one that afternoon, before the school year ended. I told them where I was going to go hunting that afternoon, but then at the last minute, I changed my mind and went somewhere much farther away. When I got out there, I made the mistake of trying to drive down this corridor in the trees, it was some kind of underground natural gas pipeline and they had a narrow corridor cut through the woods. As soon as I pulled into it, I got stuck up to the fenders in mud. I didn't thing it was a big deal because I had a wench and chain, and decided to sit there for a while and wait for a deer to come out. But something nagged me about and I kept looking back down at the truck. And then it dawned on me: my chain isn't long enough to reach the trees, damnit. Eventually, it got dark and I had to try something new. So I put my gun behind the seat, remembering some kind of rule that I forget now, and started off to find a house. I was pretty deep in the woods but I remembered a house a few miles away from the other direction I came in. It was so dark and I had no lights that the only way I knew I was still on the gravel road was to listen for the crunching of rocks under my feet. The first house I came to, the guy there wouldn't drive out to pull me out, he needed his truck for work and didn't want to damage it. The next house I went to was a young couple that I knew from church. The husband has something like an old souped-up Chevrolet pickup that he drove me out and eventually got me pulled out. When I got back home, Micheal was, I'm not sure how to describe it, but I knew I had really pushed my luck on this one. I was expecting some serious shit to come down on me. He told me mom thought I was dead and they had the whole neighborhood out searching for me. But of course, they weren't even looking anywhere close to where I really went. Eventually, mom and Denzil got home and I just remember mom looking like she had been crying, she didn't even look relieved, she just looked....devastated....is the first word that comes to mind. I can't remember what Denzil said to me, but they didn't ground me for that and I got to go hunting the next day. But I knew I needed to watch myself from then on. I think there is probably a lot more to this story, but this is the most I can remember right now. And I think some of these other events I am remembering are all part of some event in reality. This event represents only part of it and while the issue seemed to be resolved, I think it gets covered in other events.

I even have memories of something associated with "calling the ball." There's probably a lot more memories to dig up here, but basically, I was umpiring a baseball game, calling balls and strikes. I wasn't doing it very well though, is the first way I want to describe. But I don't think that is true. I think the memory is constructed around the other people that would be there to support my landing and catching the wire.

This one other memory came up with a time when Denzil told me I had made my point. I think he wanted me to come back home because my mother missed me. She and I had an argument over something I can't remember. I decided to move out, going out on my own. I moved into a motel in town. It was close to the end of my senior year. I remember people telling me their opinions and I didn't really want to hear it. One guy was telling me how great home cooked meals are, Micheal telling me I was crazy. My physics teacher said something about to me in class one day but I can't remember what he said. Micheal drove up to where I worked after school and took Denzil's dog box that I had in my truck. They were large wooden boxes that filled the bed of the pickup and that we put the hunting dogs into for transport. There was one point there after that where my mother was extremely angry at me. I had snuck into the house one day to get my clothes and they were taking a nap and I didn't want them to know I was there. Something was wrong with my Chevrolet and my girlfriends father let me borrow his El Camino. I enjoyed driving his car, because it had a lot of power, but I didn't care much for the quasi-pickup chassis, it just didn't look right. She showed up at the place I was staying not much longer, slamming her door, yelling at me. Eventually, I saw Denzil some time later, I was still staying at the motel. I was paying my rent one day and the owner said he had wanted to meet me. Anyway, Denzil told me I had made my point and that I should come back home because mom missed me. I saw her sometime after that in Wal Mart. She said she was buying some black socks for me, that I would need for the Senior prom that was a few days away. I moved back in with them until I graduated, and acccording to my memory, left for boot camp in Orlando.

I wonder about the significance of an event in 1989. I went with my roommate, from Hollywood, and his hometown girlfriend, Phyllis, to the movie to see the release of Batman. I think it was that night we were out in a diner and I said something about a 5 dollar bill, later feeling dumb because I had been drunk and felt stupid for saying something silly. Anyway, when we got back to the apartment from the movie, I realized I had lost my wallet. I went back to the theatre and remarkably, found the seat I had been in and my wallet was still there.

That guys name was something like Ryll, pronounced something like "rill." He probably represents someone I was with with I was getting stomped into the ground.

The memory of me going to OK to help my father build a house one winter. Something there maybe.

Ah.....well before that.....that set of concrete steps. There was this large structure, concrete steps for the front door to a trailer house, but the lot was empty. For some reason, I took a sledge hammer and demolished it, left nothing but a pile a rubble to what had once been, in my memory, that new and unused set of stairs. I have often wondered about that, why no one ever said anything about it to me.

At one point, though, the guy in the trailer next to the empty where I was destroying the steps started making some noise, but I ignored him. It took me two days to complete the job. At some point, his kid started crying about something. He rushed out and immediately blamed me for hurting her, but she was no one around me and I don't know what she was crying about.

JOURNAL ARCHIVE: July 21, 2006

That comment I made to Lynn back in 2002 is really making sense now. After I got down to Provo for Ironman Utah 2002, scheduled for June 8th, I was unimpressed with their choice of having us swim in that lake. In hindsight, the concrete rubble on the shore probably was a decision factor. I am wondering if my nickname, or one of them as Kerry Burgess had several, was "Smash." Anyway, I told Lynn that after I walked down to the lake to survey the swim course, I wondered if Osama bin Laden was the race director. I commented something about how when they start an invasion, they go after the strongest people first. I am wondering today if, in the course of my professional military duties, I had been developing tactics of that very nature against military adversaries of the U.S. before my memory was blanked. I have been thinking that I was supposed to be awakened from this "hibernation" a long time ago. I have suspected for a long time that even George W. Bush was watching this Kerry Show, along with everyone else. There was some kind of "echo" I heard a long time ago, among all the others, something about him commenting on how I was avoiding contact with my family, such as Theda and Melissa. The only response I can think of for that is: No shit, Sherlock. You sure as hell wouldn't want your family stalked like this either. Moron.

I have been wondering for a few hours today, maybe yesterday too, about a couple memories I have as Kerry Burgess in the Navy. Actually, there are several memories counted the ones that started this train of thought. I think it started early this morning or last night when I started thinking again about those training exercises in Charleston while on the Taylor. I wrote about them a couple years ago. One was that boiler room fire exercise and the other was the simulated missile strike on our ship where we then had to patch the hole to stop the flooding. I can still hear, or so it seems, the loud clanging noise from when the exercise started by someone outside the ship compartment mock-up hitting on the side with a sledgehammer. Then I remembered another time on the Taylor when we were out to sea. It was the first time the Taylor fired a missile. I was in the forward repair locker at the time which was directly under the missile launcher. I told someone later that when the missile fired, it felt as though someone had hit me on the top of my helmet with a sledgehammer. I wonder if I am remembering too very different incidents. The first, in the flooding compartment exercise, combined with the smoke-filled boiler room fire, is actually my deflected memories of being on the Sheffield when it was hit. That loud clanging sound wasn't a sledgehammer outside the compartment, rather it was the Exocet hitting the side of the ship. The boiler room fire exercise was actually the fire on the Exocet. My memory of an earlier experience with my half-brother and step-brothers and the tent outside in the rain represents our evacuation of the Sheffield and waiting to be rescued. As for the first missile firing from the Taylor and the sledgehammer to my helmet, I am wondering again about some thoughts of having the canopy blown off my aircraft from a close missile explosion. Maybe the explains something on the top of my head. At first I told myself that I should have some memories to explain what is that feature on my head, which I did not. But then I did remember something, something about a tender spot on my head from long, long ago. That may be why something caught my attention a couple years ago. I made note of it at the time, something about that WW1 German pilot, Richthofen, the Red Baron, and how he sustained a head injury in combat.

Something has been telling me to think more about my memory of seeing on the news that the Stark had been hit. As I wrote earlier, there is glaring discrepancy there, probably intentional, about my memory on that topic. I was talking to TM3 Preston Lee about it in our barracks in Orlando. We had a tv in the room that we watched for the news. But I was in Orlando in 1986. In May of 1987, I was still in Dam Neck, VA. That would have been right around the time I would have graduated and would have been going back to Arkansas for a 30-day leave. I think it was July 1987 when I reported to Wainwright in Charleston. The Wainwright, as I have pieced it together over the years while I was still believing I had been with that crew, was selected to deploy to the Arabian Gulf as a direct result of the strike on the Stark, thus giving the Iraqis an edge over the Iranians in the Tanker War. Could the name "Preston" actually represent some kind of memory about "pressed on," as in "I pressed on with the attack" despite some reason I may have had to not continue.

I have also been thinking about something my doctor said to me last year when I was in-patient at the VA. After they did a cat-scan on me, he told me something about the results. I assume he told me everything was ok, but now that I think about it, I can't remember him telling me that, but I feel as though he did. What I do remember is wondering why he said something about not being able to read those scans himself. I thought later that could mean he was trying to cover himself because anyone looking at the scan could probably see that something was unusual. It is probably the RFID chip in my ear. That shows up on the scan.

I am certainly glad that The Kerry Show: Expedition To Pioneer Square has gone off the air. 10 months of that madhouse was more than enough, thank you very much. This new series, The Kerry Show: Back To The Shoreline, is much improved, Now With 10% More Privacy!, but I would sure rather have my own place. And it is hot in here too, but it is nothing like the misery I would be experiencing down at Pioneer Square.

I wonder if someone told the people in the nearby buildings that I was moving in. I got the sense something like that happened last time I moved in. Not sure what they told them, but I could tell something, maybe something like that comment Wally Simpson made all those years ago about me being on the roof with a rifle. I now exactly what is happening here though. Microsoft has been anticipating me being a witness in a jury trial against them and they are trying to turn public opinion against me before it starts because I am a highly credible witness to Microsoft's criminal activities.

A long time ago, I wrote something about them trying to turn me into a public figure. I know more about this, 'this' meaning their strategy at defending their criminal activities, than I realize, if I could just remember.

JOURNAL ARCHIVE: Sleep Journal 2/14/06

Funny how I don't remember any dreams last night or this morning. I slept about 3 or 4 hours late in the evening and then a few hours later this morning. I don't remember anything. And then there is the way the few foreign dreams I've had lately seemed to be quieter, as if the manipulators were almost whispering or they were transmitting with a lower power setting. I do remember waking up at one point where it sounded like someone was telling Donald Pleasance that he had a taxi waiting for him downstairs to take him to the airport. Pleasance was the guy who was chasing that guy around in those Halloween movies. He also played a blind guy trying to escape from a WW2 German POW camp.

For the past couple of days I have been meaning to bring up again a dream that happened about two years ago that I believe was a foreign dream. I recorded it in my journal shortly after that but I have lost control of all my personal effects due to this situation. I remember waking up absolutely terrified. There was something terrifying about my digital alarm clock. It seemed that the numbers had stopped, that time itself had stopped. It was probably several minutes before I regained my senses. I don't know why I was so terrified.

But it also causes me to think more about that experience as well as others. I realized that I have never really been scared before. I have been in some tough spots that were troubling, but every time I felt in control, at least in control of what I could control. That experience with being terrified reminded me of another experience many years earlier when I learned to distinquish and recognize a basic emotion. I was standing on the pier next to the Wainwright shortly after we had returned from the PG. Everything had been going so right one day, and then the next, everything just started going so wrong. It seemed as soon as I touched home soil again, everything just started falling apart. I was standing there and for the first time in my life, at least that I was aware, I felt lonely. I had been alone a lot in my life to that point, but this was the first time I could really label the feeling. That lonely experience and that terrifing experience are similar in some ways but dissimilar in other ways. The loneliness I felt that day after returning home was just sort of a peak I guess, a new level of an emotion that I had felt many times in my life but never really understood. The terror feeling on the hand, was pretty new. The lonely experience just produced a scar, while the terror feeling, I don't know what the result of that experience is, maybe to reinforce my desire to maintain peace in my life, of which people have been trying to drive me away from, although why they want to provoke me I don't know.

The stimulants, in general, have the effect of increasing wakefulness and alertness at the expense of creating tremulousness, feelings of anxiety and overactivity. Caffein, benzedrine, and dexedrine fall into this category. There are a number of derivatives of benzedrine which have essentially the same action. "Aktedron," a synthetic benzedrine derivative, has been used in Czechoslovakia and Southeast Europe. Coffee and Benzedrine derivatives are sometimes administered to tired or sleepy prisoners in order to wake them up enough so that the interrogation can be carried on. They have been used in this manner in Eastern Europe, in Russia, and in China. In and of themselves they have no important effect in producing confessions. Used in combination with a system of psychological and physiological pressures they will in many cases accelerate and exacerbate the profound fatigue, confusion, loss of critical judgment, and breakdown of resistance which is a consequence of the full course of control techniques.

[I was suspecting back with I worked at Microsoft that someone was drugging my coffee.]

JOURNAL ARCHIVE: Sleep journal 2/16/06

I dreamt a lot lately, but end up not remembering very much. The only dream segment I remember has a navy uniform theme to it. I just remember something about wearing the uniform and something about wearing the E-9 insignia. In the latest one, I remember something about an officer informing me that the recommended me for a high-profile military academy. But since I am too old now to attend someplace like Annapolis, the scenario may have occurred in the past, especially because sometimes I see things that suggest several officer paygrade, with LCDR the highest rank I have seen myself associated with.

[ 8/11/2007: Maybe my Libyan captors told me back in 1986 that I wasn't going to live to be promoted to LCDR.]

I'm not when this started, or whether I saw it in a dream, but I've had these ideas about something Microsoft is up to. Recently I wrote that Microsoft is 'possibly' the culprit in all this, but then I realized that it is highly likely they are responsible, they just have thousands of lawyers sitting around thinking up ways to obstruct justice so this thing never gets resolved. I started thinking that the government was trying to resolve, but Microsoft hoisted their Jolly Roger flag and sailed into the fog after making me walk the plank. I am thinking now something about Microsoft, maybe even Bill Gates personally, threatening to move Microsoft out of the country for some reason, I guess if the government forces them to stop obstructing justice. The impact would mean all those people on campus would lose their jobs and then that would have a ripple impact. If Microsoft is really making a threat like that, I think it is highly deplorable to use those people as human shields. It sounds like something someone from the Khaddafi School of Business Leadership would do.

Felt like there was a lot of dreams but I can only remember one segment. I wonder if they are getting better at erasing whatever it is I sense to distinquish it as a foreign dream. Maybe it has something to do with the tone of voice they use when they are manipulating my dreams. Perhaps there was an urgency in the past that doesn't exist now and that translates in my perception as something else. The dream I remember from this morning, I think it was just before I woke up, was that I was stationed aboard a U.S. Navy ship. There was a lot more to this dream I wish I could remember, but I think the basic dream was that I was the XO, it may have been a Perry class frigate, but I don't remember which one it was. I remember at one point I was saying that I wanted to be the CO of the Stark, but since that ship has been decom'd I think, I don't know what that means. The only real part I remember about this dream is that I was explaining to the CO how I was going to handle liberty call for our next port. We were leaving on a trip down to Puerto Rico and would stay in port for one night and I was working out the plan for liberty. I remember something about the CO seemed really young, maybe a teenager. I wonder if that is how all COs are if you know one on a peer- or almost-peer basis. That isn't it quite exactly, something about them seeming more human or not so terrible, as I heard them referred to once.

JOURNAL ARCHIVE: solitary confinement

Fri, 2/24/06 10:23 AM

Today I find myself thinking back to when I was 14 years old and I was following the Iranian Hostage Crisis of 1980. I remember thinking back, and this seems kind of odd for a 14 year old, how I wish they would let them go home. It seems odd because I wonder how old a person is before they develop a sense of empathy. Most of all, I felt bad for the uniformed military for reasons I won't get into now. I also find myself thinking today of how I feel something in common with them, in that I feel like I am a hostage of people that are politically motivated, I feel also like I am wearing a blindfold. This analogy also clarifies how I feel about the media presence I sense. They are spectators, observers to my captivity.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iran_hostage_crisis

Revolutionary teams displayed secret documents taken from the embassy, sometimes painstakingly reconstructed after shredding showing that U.S. intelligence was trying to destabilize the new regime. Though officially treated well, the hostages were often shown blindfolded to local crowds and television cameras. There were some hostages who were beaten for resisting their captors and psychological torture was used on others throughout the 444 days. Some spent extended periods in solitary confinement. The crisis led to daily (yet seemingly unchanging) news updates; the ABC late-night program America Held Hostage, anchored by Ted Koppel, would later become the stalwart news magazine Nightline.

JOURNAL ARCHIVE: Sleep journal 2/24/06

I remember only one scene from my dreams last night. It was of looking down into a paper bag that had a cat in it. I am confused about whether the dream was from the perspective of my eyes or whether I was the cat. Maybe both. I remember the cat was really pissed off. I remember seeing what would seem to be my arm reaching into the bag to pet the cat. I don't know if it occurred during the dream or after I woke up, but I remember thinking how that seemed like a bad idea. I remember a voice saying something about how it just wanted to pet the cat, but I am uncertain whether the voice was saying "I" or "We" to indicate whether it was me talking to the cat or whether the spectators were talking to me, respectively. I awoke with a relevant lyric fragment playing in my head, but I don't remember it now.

JOURNAL ARCHIVE: Sleep journal 2/25/06

Had a few dreams but I don't remember any details. I remember at one point early into my sleep waking up and reminding myself to remember the dream and the song lyric fragment but I had forgotten them by the time I got up. I do remember at what seemed to be right before I got up, they said something about how bad it must be to have people screwing around with your mind. I think they said something like it must be bad to have people inside your head, or something like that. I feel so flattered to have such sympathetic dream terrorists.

My head hurts this morning. I slept soundly last night, but only because I go two or three nights with lousy sleep to the point that when I do sleep soundly, it is because I am exhausted. It is as easy sleeping in here as in a barn with all the people snoring. It smells like a barn in here too.

This is the last journal entry I made to myself on 5/9/2006 and I began to understand the next morning that I woke up with new perceptions about my memory. My first journal entry on 5/10 was just the subject line of "Finally" as though I had received permission to begin unloading my artificial identity.

Most of this journal entry was work I was doing to puzzle over the plot element of the "Lost" television series about the lottery numbers. For some reason, that seemed important and I had been looking at it before I became homeless, which is curious because I have very little interest in the lottery. I didn't have computer access for a while and I worked on it some more afterwards, along with a lot of other topics, and it was on 5/9/2006 that I noticed something profound.

I converted those numbers into latitude and longitude numbers, which other people I saw were also doing, but I didn't see any one else combine the '4' and the '8' into '48.' As illustrated immediately below, I matched the lat/long numbers I created into something very relevant to me.

The result I created pointed to the beach where "Lost" is being filmed and then to the first apartment I lived at when I moved out here from South Carolina to begin working at Microsoft on 12/7/1998.

The attached image is not to scale but it shows the general location of the two equidistant points I mapped out. That point there in the Pacific ocean is where the lat/long coordinates I created from the "Lost" lottery numbers point to. From that point in the north Pacific, I calculated that the beach where that film "Lost" is 1854 miles. Then from that same point in the north Pacific, the distance to that apartment I first stayed at after moving out here from South Carolina is also 1854.

I was living at an apartment named Highland that Microsoft had arranged for me. I stayed there for a month and then I stayed for a while at a place directly across the street from the Bellevue, Washington, police department.

I was also puzzling over how "Kate" was living with that farmer named "Ray" and I know I watched this episode when it premiered. I didn't get to see much of the 2nd season because I didn't have control of a television. I couldn't even turn off the lights in that homeless shelter when I wanted to. I couldn't even go into the bathroom and know that people on the radio didn't know what I said to myself in the bathroom. I commented to myself many times over the years that it feels like the Iranians have taken over this country.

"Tabula Rasa" is the 3rd episode of Lost. It is the third episode of the show's first season. The episode was directed by Jack Bender and written by Damon Lindelof. It first aired on October 6, 2004 on ABC. The character of Kate Austen is featured in the episode's flashback.

Episode 3 - Tabula Rasa

KATE [back on the island]: I wanted you to make sure that Ray Mullen got his 23 grand.

MARSHAL: What -- the guy who ratted you out?

KATE: He had a hell of a mortgage.

MARSHAL: You really are one of a kind. You know, you would have got away if you hadn't saved him.

KATE: In case you hadn't noticed, I did get away.

MARSHAL: You don't look free to me. Kate, I'm going to die, right?

KATE: Yeah.

MARSHAL: So, are you going to do it, or what?

1854 miles is the distance from the Lottery/GPS numbers to the map center of the town of Mokuleia, which is where they are filming the series Lost. 1854 miles is also the distance from those Lottery/GPS numbers to the first place I stayed when I moved to Bellevue in 1998 to work for Microsoft. Assuming that Claire's baby was named Aaron because that was Elvis Presley's middle name, it raises some interesting points.

1. the distance is in the 1800 mile range. Elvis was born 1/8/35, which suggests that the first two numbers of the distance correspond to the date of Jan. 8th.
2. IF they chose the Lottery/GPS numbers to produce a distance of 1854, that may have been to produce a date of 1/8/54. Elvis was 19 years old on that date. I wrote a while back about how I was born when my father was 19 and he died when I was 19.
3. Elvis moved to Memphis in 1948. '4' and '8' are two numbers in the lottery sequence.

I matched those coordinates to roughly the area around the Space Needle and the beach in Oahu where they are filming the series. The Lottery/GPS coordinates form a point on a triangle located in the Pacific near Alaska.

I remember thinking something was amiss when I was near the Space Needle to run the Seattle Marathon in 2003.

I don't have very good tools now to work on this, but here are some relevant points, with the Seattle Marathon start and finish points, as well as Kerry Park which is nearby:

Interesting, it looks like MSN Maps is blocking out aerial photos of the beach were they are filming the series.

Also, it looks like they started filming the series on the Monday following the March 18 date on this article:

I don't know if the formatting is going to work out for this forwarded message, but it basically represents another clue I was puzzling over for a long time. As best I could tell, it pointed back precisely to the time the USS Samuel B. Robert's struck that mine in the Persian Gulf in 1988. I have since come to understand they - who ever 'they' are - are trying to talk to me in terms of my artificial identity and then that raises a lot of questions in itself. Such as: "Why?"

This song is another work that really got my attention. I am also thinking now of the "Broken Bow" episode that was the premiere episode of "Star Trek: Enteprise" from 2001 and I will go into detail on that later, as I believe it is highly relevant to me.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X%26Y

X&Y is the third album by English rock band Coldplay, released in the United Kingdom on 6 June 2005 and in North America on June 7. Preceded by the successful single "Speed of Sound", which peaked at #2 in the UK and #8 in the U.S., the album debuted at the top of the UK album chart, moving 464,471 units in its first week, a success which put X&Y second in overall first week sales. The album became Coldplay's first U.S. chart-topper, selling 737,000 units in its first week of release, as well as spending three weeks at number one. X&Y was the #1 best-selling album worldwide in 2005; it shifted 8.3 million units during the year.

X&Y is influenced by European electronic music pioneers Kraftwerk, as well as 1970s electronica from the likes of David Bowie and Brian Eno. Coldplay received permission from Kraftwerk to use the main riff from "Computer Love" for the track "Talk", while Eno played backing synthesizer on the track "Low". The album's final track, "'Til Kingdom Come", was originally written by the band to be recorded by Johnny Cash, but Cash died before he could record the song.

Title: Coldplay - Talk lyrics

Oh brother I can't, I can't get through
Ive been trying hard to reach you 'cause I dont know what to do
Oh brother I can't believe it's true
Im so scared about the future and I wanna talk to you
Oh I wanna talk to you
You can take a picture of something you see
In the future where will I be?
You can climb a ladder up to the sun
Or write a song nobody has sung
Or do something that's never been done
Are you lost or incomplete?
Do you feel like a puzzle, you can't find your missing piece?
Tell me how you feel?
Well I feel like they're talking in a language I don't speak
And they're talking it to me
So you take a picture of something you see
In the future where will I be?
You can climb a ladder up to the sun
Or write a song nobody has sung
Or do something that's never been done
Or do something that's never been done
So you don't know where you're going and you wanna talk
And you feel like you're going where you've been before
You tell anyone who'll listen but you feel ignored
Nothing's really making any sense at all, let's talk
Let's talk, let's talk, let's talk.

"Pardon my French" or "Excuse my French" is a common English language phrase ostensibly disguising profanity as French. The phrase is uttered in an attempt to excuse the user of profanity or curses in the presence of those offended by it under the pretense of the words being part of a foreign language. Another interpretation is that the speaker is compelled to use the distasteful language and is apologizing to the audience for the necessity.

The phrase has found large use in broadcast television and family films where less offensive words are followed by "pardon my French" to emphasise their meaning without violating censorship or rating guidelines. A good example is in the movie Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Cameron calls Mr. Rooney and says, "Pardon my French, but you're an asshole."

If a distress call was sent on April 14, 1988, at 1952.5 local time, and was repeated two times per minute, it would have repeated 17,294,535 times by September 22, 2004, at 2100. I didn't account for the probably that the reception time should match the same time as this scene aired during this particular episode of Lost, which I guess is around 2155.

Original run September 26, 2001 – May 13, 2005

Star Trek: Enterprise (titled Enterprise prior to season three) is a science fiction television program set in the Star Trek universe which was created by Gene Roddenberry.

The series, which follows the adventures of the pre-Federation Enterprise, premiered on September 26, 2001. Enterprise's pilot episode, "Broken Bow", takes place in 2151: 10 years before the Federation's founding, about halfway between the 21st century events shown in the movie Star Trek: First Contact and the original Star Trek.

Because of low ratings, UPN cancelled Enterprise on February 2, 2005, but allowed the series to complete its fourth season; the final episode aired on May 13, 2005. After a run of four seasons and 98 episodes, it was the first Star Trek series since the original Star Trek to have been canceled by its network rather than finished by its producers.

Broken Bow: Part 1 (2001)

2151. Starfleet has constructed its first vessel that is capable of exploring the universe and the launch of Enterprise is imminent. Then two alien races land in a cornfield near Broken Bow, Oklahoma. A Klingon is being chased by two yellow-skinned creatures. The Klingon gets rid of the two, but not of a farmer, who shoots him with a plasma rifle. Back at Starfleet headquarters the Vulcans, who have been advising and restraining the human race since Dr. Zefram Cochrane invented the plasma engine almost 100 years ago, announce that they will take the Klingon, Klaang, back to his home world Kronos. They urge the humans to postpone the launch of Enterprise. But for the first time Starfleet will not listen to the Vulcans and the decision is made to let Enterprise bring back Klaang. Barely underway Enterprise' systems fail and the ship is entered by the yellow-skinned aliens.

The town of Broken Bow, Oklahoma, is at the mid-point of that route between Antlers and Ashdown. I thought a lot about that when that episode premiered in 2001. I was in Charlotte, North Carolina, on 9/26/2001, after Microsoft sent me out there around that time on a plane from Seattle. I would note later that Tom Devey, the Ilan Ramon look-alike would seem very nervous when he found out from me that Microsoft was flying us down to Los Angeles at the same time for the Professional Developers Conference.

Quantum Leap is an American science fiction television series that ran for 95 episodes from March 1989 to May 1993 on the NBC network. Each episode of the series begins with a spoken introduction which explains the series' premise:

Theorizing that one could time-travel within his own lifetime, Dr. Sam Beckett led an elite group of scientists into the desert, to develop a top-secret project known as Quantum Leap. Pressured to prove his theories or lose funding, Dr. Beckett prematurely stepped into the project accelerator, and vanished...

He awoke to find himself trapped in the past, facing mirror images that were not his own, and driven by an unknown force to change history for the better. His only guide on this journey is Al, an observer from his own time, who appears in the form of a hologram that only Sam can see and hear. And so Dr. Beckett finds himself leaping from life to life, striving to put right what once went wrong, and hoping each time that his next Leap...will be the Leap home...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genesis_%28Quantum_Leap_episode%29

Originally shown on Easter Sunday, 1989, the pilot was a two-hour movie simply known as Quantum Leap. When the show returned for new episodes in September of that year, however, NBC aired a severely edited (90-minute) version of the pilot called "Genesis."

Original airdate 1989-03-26

A man wakes up in a bed, thinking, "I did it!" His next thought is, "Did what?" His name is Tom Stratton. It's 1956. He works for the Air Force flying planes, and he's got a beautiful wife and a nice son. There's just one problem: he's pretty sure that his name's not Tom Stratton, it's Sam. But he can't even remember his last name. In fact, he's also pretty sure that the year shouldn't be 1956. And worst of all, he's never flown a plane in his life. (OK, make that more than one problem.)

Help (such as it is) comes along in the form of a man named Al. There's just one problem with Al: he's not really there. He's just a hologram. And holograms didn't exist back in 1956. And Al has the tendency to walk through invisible doors. Sam -- whoever he is -- is having a very bad day.

Eventually, Al explains to Sam that he's a part of a time-travel experiment from the future. He "leaped" into the past, but somehow wound up as Tom Stratton. But Tom Stratton died when attempting to fly the Mach-2...which, for Sam, is coming up in just a couple of days. If Sam can survive that, he'll change history, Al says, and hopefully "leap" again.

However, the leap doesn't take Sam home, as he hopes. Instead, he winds up as a minor-league baseball player back in 1968, trying to win his last game for his team.

Sam is really fed up with Al, and wants to know whose hairbrain idea this whole project was in the first place. Al tells him: it's Sam himself. Project Quantum Leap was his idea. "If anyone can figure out how to get you home," Al tells Sam, "it's you."

I wasn't writing very much as this point about my new thoughts, although I did start writing a lot in my journal about it around this time. I think back and I was primarily puzzling over my memories of the places I "remembered" that I used to live. I think it was actually Wexford Drive that got me thinking that my memories were completely false. I started searching on the internet for something about Wexford and I found something right away and even before I began reading about John Barry, I knew that the detail about Wexford was going to have some profound meaning to me. I also think there is some part of my true identity that is very bored and has been locked into a room with only a small window to try to yell through. The people who locked me in there are at least now standing outside the door and listening to me as best they can but I don't understand why they won't let me out. Or I do understand. But I don't understand why they aren't working harder to complete whatever is their assignment that will allow me to finish my assignment. Or something like that. I have to wait. But why should I have to wait? Why is it that I have to sacrifice so much in terms of losing all these years away from the people I care about? Why is this all so backwards? I am the crime victim. I am the target of the identity thieves. Why can I not even go home? Why am I again a Prisoner of War as a member of the United States Navy and on an official United States federal undercover assignment? Why is this all so backwards?

I don't recognize me boss's boss, but my boss was familar. I have also been thinking today again about the distinction between free will and mind control. The exhausting part about all this, as really with any kind of direction, is from rejecting the advice I don't want to follow. That is the stuff I don't remember, the advice or direction I didn't want to follow.

And what memories are real and what memories are manipulated? Did I ever live in a town named Greenville and work repairing cash machines? Did I ever live in a place named Lincoln on the Green? What a clever way to express the concept of "follow the money." And what about Central and Greer? And did I live next to that road named Royal Point before that ST:TNG episode where Troi was talking about dreams being the "royal road"? Is any of this true?

All I know is I need to get the hell out of here. Goddamn it, when do I get out of HERE!!!!!!

I look back and see that 5/9/2006 was the point I began to really question the nature of my memory. I don't know if I did that on my own or I am being hypnotized - or more likely that would be 'de-hypnotized' - through some external source. I don't know how it is happening

There was that dream I had the other night, where I was inside a missile. I remembered today the similarity with this movie, in that Cochrane converted an ICBM into his warp ship. But why would someone create a connection between me and Cochrane? I didn't create warp drive in the past only to have someone block my memory of that, did I? It's funny, when I read something the other day about Data arguing with Einstein, it reminded me of something I was writing in my journal back in the early '90s. I was wondering why it was impossible to travel faster than the speed of light. A couple years ago I was writing about it again. The idea presented itself to me about why it was impossible, something about atoms not being able to work because electrons could not transfer energy faster than the speed of light. I wondered if it was possible to create some kind of process to transfer energy to those atoms, not unlike a cell's mitochondria works. Today I have been wondering if anything I remember about the past is real. Do I have a different past? Am I really who I think I am? The stuff I imagine happening to me sometimes, did that stuff really happen? I wonder if these movies and tv shows have actually been sort of inoculations, to keep me from questioning my reality. I do question reality sometimes, but it wasn't until I saw that Matrix movie a while back, did I really start to wonder about reality. But it didn't seem to matter, I wasn't overly concerned that I may be living that kind of false reality. I still don't think I am living such an extreme unreality as in the Matrix, but I wonder if there is a divergence point in my life, a shadow, a distorted period. Or have I been living a life like in the movie Soldier, or maybe like in Blade Runner, where Rachael, and I assume Harrison Ford's character, have false memories of their life. Am I Harrison Ford's character in this reality? A replicant searching for replicants? I haven't been able to follow Battlestar Galactica this past year, but I think that theme is showing up there, with Chief Tyrol.

It has something to do with graft. In this movie, the Borg graft skin onto Data, and there is something symbolic to that. I need to watch this again and think more about this. But I suspect this all has been about exposing some kind of graft, perhaps related to defense contracts.

graft

Unscrupulous use of one's position to derive profit or advantages; extortion

Money or an advantage gained or yielded by unscrupulous means

[I found myself thinking about this movie this morning. But I can't now remember details about what I was thinking this morning. It's more of an impression now. I did start thinking later about that part at the beginning where he is dreaming. Wasn't he looking in a mirror when the Borg implants started coming through his skin? And something about the way he knew about the Borg. something, something, something, something, something, something]

Following the destruction of the USS Enterprise-D in Star Trek: Generations, the bridge crew, with the exception of Worf, were transferred to a new Sovereign class starship, the USS Enterprise-E. Shortly before the beginning of the film, a Borg cube ship has entered Federation space on a course for Earth. However, instead of stationing their most advanced vessel among the fleet assembled to protect Earth, Starfleet has assigned the Enterprise to patrol the Romulan Neutral Zone. Starfleet orders Jean-Luc Picard to do so in case the Romulans decide to take advantage of the situation. However, he is fully aware that the real reason is that, because of Captain Jean-Luc Picard's past experience with the Borg, Starfleet considers him too unstable to lead a ship into battle against them.
