Man arrested after threats of mayhem at a grocery store
MOUNTLAKE TERRACE — A man threatening to blow up the building and kill people walked into a QFC grocery store yesterday afternoon, prompting police to evacuate the store and surround a strip mall for 2-½ hours.
Investigators determined the threats were bogus after arresting a 25-year-old man, who was not armed, and failing to find any explosives in the businesses in the 22800 block of 44th Avenue West, police Sgt. Craig McCaul said.
Opening gala for opera house scheduled for June 28, 29
SEATTLE — The music will start June 28. That's the day set for the black-tie opening gala at Marion Oliver McCaw Hall (the redesigned Opera House), when singers Jane Eaglen, Carol Vaness and Vinson Cole will be the headliners in a joint presentation by the Seattle Opera and Pacific Northwest Ballet, with Gerard Schwarz conducting. The evening will conclude with guests dancing on the stage. Tickets will be available next spring.
On the following day, June 29, a free public "Grand Celebration Day" for families will present activities and programs all over the $127 million hall, inside and out.

McCaw gala tonight, open house tomorrow
The doors of the $127 million Marion Oliver McCaw Hall open tonight with a 7 p.m. "The Curtain Rises" gala party. Opera, ballet and choral performances (including Wagnerian soprano Jane Eaglen) will inaugurate the new stage. Afterward, patrons will dine throughout the hall, dance on the stage and celebrate until 1 a.m. Tickets are $300-$500
No tickets will be needed, however, to tomorrow's free six-hour Open House, beginning at 11 a.m., when the doors are thrown open to the general public. Musicians and dancers will entertain all comers, who are welcome to explore backstage, dressing rooms, all seats in the house — and those famous women's restrooms, more than double the number of the old Opera House.
