Back at the Stargate chamber, the Stargate opens and everyone takes cover. Apophis' serpent warriors come through and immediately open fire. Ferretti is stunned and the other soldiers killed. Skaara tries to protect Sha're but they are both captured by the Jaffa leader, Teal'c. He realizes that they are using alien weapons but Skaara refuses to talk. Apophis declares that Skaara is a perfect specimen and then stuns him with his wrist gauntlet. He studies Sha're, says that she "may be the one," and stuns her as well. He then uses the dialing device to reopen the Stargate, unaware that the wounded Ferretti is watching.
Jack and the others return and one of the wounded natives says that it was Ra, and they went back through the Stargate. Daniel is furious, insisting it's his fault for bringing down the barricade, and now Sha're is gone.

Daniel explains that after a month of exploring he found a chamber with a star map that indicates there is a galactic network of Stargates. Sam notes that they tried hundreds of symbol permutations and it never worked. Daniel figures that 50,000 years of galactic expansion threw the map out of alignment, but Earth and Abydos were close enough that the coordinates remain the same. Adjusting for the Doppler shift, they can adjust the map to the current day.

There weren't any shuttle flights in August 1994. There was STS-65 in July 1994 though. Could the Aug. 24 date be symboliced because it was Caitlin's birthday? Perhaps I actually left on July 7th for my journey to the moon. And I am only assuming, as with all this, that the trip began with a shuttle transport into space. They may have dusted off some old Saturn rockets and sent me up on one of those to rendevous with the CM and LM, which had been sent up separately.

Jim Shea told me one day on the Wainwright, as I was showing him my latest creation in BASIC on the Commodore, something about how I would be successful working in some back room somewhere writing software like that. I remember later thinking that I had proven I could be just as successful in the front office too, because of the success I enjoyed working for Ketterman's on that contract with the bank First Federal.
