The crosses engraved in the wood paneling behind where Julia Roberts is sitting in the scene reminds me a lot of that dream I had while sleeping a while back.
I've never seen that film before I watched it this day on local broadcast television. The name of the film just produces a blank spot in my mind, as though I had seen it advertised and then repressed it from conscious awareness. I cannot even bring myself to write that it seems vaguely familiar. There is just something wrong with trying to describe it that way and I know I have never watched it before today.

I was thinking about a dream I had just before waking up this morning and I decided to go for it and see if that dream was relevant to associations with today's date. The associations are compelling and the details I describe about the dream this morning are details really from a dream when I was asleep this morning. I had not checked on any of the associating details until I had been up and after I thought about it while taking a shower. I didn't make the association in my mind with the symbols I saw in the dream to my United States Navy Cross medal until after I got out of the shower and sat down at my desk to think more about it.
The dream I awoke from had me in some kind of residential building. I was sitting in a hallway outside a door of an apartment or condo and I was waiting for other people to join me. We were there to visit my grandmother. Earlier, I had seen myself as a passenger in a car and I had a guitar and I forget the precise dialog I had with the woman who was driving, while other passengers sat in the backseat, but I was trying to match the radio signal on the radio inside my guitar with the radio broadcast from the radio in the dashboard of the car we were riding in. So the sequence of the dream seemed to go from that car, where I recall details about the traffic on the highway, to me sitting in that hallway in that building. At some point, when I was in that hallway, I noticed something unusual about the bottom of my hallux toe on one of my feet. There was indentations on it and I was studying that detail. I noted that the indications formed a perfect 'plus sign.' My first thought was that it was something to do with ions, the negatively charged atoms or molecules. As I was sitting there in that hallway, I said something about those symbols on my toe and I saw "Oscar Goldman" in the only appearance in the dream, ask me "What does that mean?" or "What does that matter?" I forget his precise question. I thought also that looking at the plus signs from an angle, and there was more than one, then it resembled the lowercase letter 'x.' I looked in my shoe to see if something in there had caused it but there was nothing. That seemed to be the point where the people I had been traveling with earlier then arrived in the hallway, and I think they came up via elevator or stairwell, which is a detail I cannot recall, and we were going to then go into my grandmother's home to visit with her. So when I saw the other people arriving, I got up and went the other direction in the hallway and to a door that was close by and that was open and I saw my first knocking on the door and I heard myself calling out words similar to, "Grandma, are you home?" Then I saw a woman come around the corner in her apartment and to the door and I knew right away I was knocking on the wrong door because she wasn't my grandmother and in the dream she was a woman I had never seen before. I saw myself raise my hand and I apologized that I was at the wrong apartment and then I went back down the hallway to the door where I saw everyone else go into and I guess now that was the correct apartment. The dream seemed to end there and I don't recall any other details after that. I think that was the point where I woke up and got out of bed and damnit my back hurts so bad today I can hardly walk and I didn't think I was going to be able to get out of the shower. God, I hate this place.
In an earlier dream I saw myself go into a store and I was carrying a double-barreled shotgun, which is unusual because I never have owned or wanted that kind of shotgun, and I saw myself ask the woman for box of 12-gauge shotgun shells that I intended to purchase. I thought about that in the shower too because I couldn't remember an earlier dream where I had seemed to go into that store before that and to purchase "sedatives." I thought maybe that was just a dream influenced by how bad my back was hurting and I had gone in there to purchase pain reliever and then the woman was commenting about how I was back into for shotgun shells after being in there earlier for "sedatives." I don't know why I had the shotgun. I rarely dream about firearms. I cannot recall the last time I saw a firearm in my dream. The last time I saw myself in a dream going into a store, that I can recall now, was several days ago when I went into buy a broom and a mop.
I completely forgot about the cab and "Sonny." Only after generating much of the information did I go read that dialog and then remember that. I haven't seen that film in a very long time. So why would I dream such specific details today?

Before I just started watching for the first time a DVD I recently purchased of the 1973 film "Soylent Green" I had hoped I could get through the entire DVD without stopping to make an official statement and that was hard because early dialog reminds me of how my brother Thomas Reagan graduated with a law degree on 1 May 1973. I hoped to create some continuity between my reports today and my report tomorrow, because I try to make my postings so that each report is a singular report that doesn't depend on information from other reports, although sometimes I assume that certain information was defined in a previous report, but I do like to create some continuity between reports, but no such luck now. I finally had to pause the video at the point where Charlton Heston has arrived to investigate the murder of the rich guy.
Where did I meet her? Is she my romantic interest in Barcelona Spain in November 1989? The way my memory records that she told me she was from Belgium. Her name was Patricia. We usually had to report back to the ship at curfew but one day was a weekend and on that weekend we did not have to report back to the ship because it was a weekend and so I had a hotel room with my Terrier Missile Plot coworker Doug. I had talked to Patricia for several days and one day I was hopeful to get to talk to her for a least a moment when I had Shore Patrol duty and I roamed around city in my dress blues and Shore Patrol armband but I couldn't find an excuse to go into the bar where she worked. A later night was the weekend night and I avoided Shore Patrol and went out after curfew although I was staying the night at the hotel and she had earlier said she would come back to the hotel with me and so I went to get her when she got off work. The hotels in Europe are different from the United States, at least that one was, and the two guys at the front desk did not want to let me bring her in with me to my room. She had told me that before we got there and so I told her to say that she was a United States Navy sailor too. I explained that women did serve on United States Navy ships and that those guys working at the front desk of the Hotel Americana, I think it was called, had no way of knowing I served on a warship, of which women were in those days not allowed to serve on. And I told her if need be to make that story even more believable by telling them she was from Oklahoma. I was going to write about this a few days ago but then did not. So that all went down and they did complain at the front desk when I walked back in with her, as I had already checked in several hours earlier but without her, and so she did give them a convincing story about Oklahoma and as I had earlier coached her as we walked there, she did have a convincing fake Oklahoma accent. But they were insistent and she could not come up to the room unless I paid them another fifty dollars, because of the extra occupancy in the room. I didn't have any more cash on me so she paid them and I promised I would pay her back tomorrow when I went back to the ship. That would come up later because another coworker, sometime later during a conversation where I was boasting about picking her up, would deflect my boasting with claims that she was a hooker. His argument was that Doug told him about how he and I left her waiting the next day at a cafe while I went back to the ship for more cash so I could pay her back as I had promised. I told him that was the only reason money traded hands between us. The hotel staff would not let her in unless I gave them more money and that was why I gave her the cash which was about fifty dollars or less.
Perhaps I knew her in Valencia Spain sometime after that. A woman in Palma Mallorca during our extended port of call there over the Christmas holidays told me we looked like "The Untouchables" because me and my buddies found a deal on wool overcoats in some other port call we made during that 1989 deployment of the USS Wainwright CG 28 to the Mediterranean Sea.
That cat actually came up to me today. I opened the patio door and it stayed in place and didn't approach me. But when I went into the bedroom and raised the blinds it got up and came over and I could have petted it if not from the screen. I held out my hand it sniffed at it but I didn't have any food it probably would have liked. I walked back to the living room and when I looked back it was lying on the grass with its back to me and just then it jumped up and chased a squirrel. I wondered if that cat was really even to catch that squirrel because that squirrel was almost as big as the cat. Until I started writing this paragraph I assumed the cat was going to catch the squirrel and eat it but as I started writing this sentence I think that cat was just chasing off the squirrel. Territoriality.

LUFKIN - Finding the piece of debris that might give clues to why the space shuttle Columbia broke apart on re-entry has been described by one NASA official as like "looking for a needle in a haystack."
Monday, the haystack got bigger.
While lawmen and volunteers in several East Texas counties were beating the piney woods and lake shores for more remnants of Columbia, the size of the "debris field" was enlarged to take in a portion of West Texas and a longer stretch of Louisiana.
Authorities did report a major find Monday. A man found the shuttle's nose cone buried about six feet in the ground on his land just outside the town of Hemphill. The cone was said to be in good shape and searchers planned to excavate it today.
Most of the significant debris and body parts apparently have been found between Nacogdoches and the Sabine River, but some fragments may be found as far east as the New Orleans suburbs and west of the point over Dallas-Fort Worth where the shuttle began to disintegrate.

SEATTLE COFFEE retailer hooks up with Oxygen Media, a network of Internet sites aimed at women.
It hasn't discovered a way to serve up espresso over the Internet, but Starbucks has found a Web-site partner with a double-tall reputation in the media business: Geraldine Laybourne, who built Nickelodeon into the leading television channel for children.
Starbucks and Laybourne's new Web company, Oxygen Media, today announced an alliance to sell Starbucks products and co-develop features within Oxygen's planned network of Web sites aimed at women.
The move provides a second glimpse into the much-anticipated Internet strategy that Starbucks Chairman Howard Schultz has said he will pursue. Last month, Starbucks announced it would invest in online chat-room developer Talk City, based in California.
The Oxygen Media deal groups Schultz and his crew with a high-powered team. Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen has agreed to invest as much as $100 million in New York-based Oxygen, a deal announced yesterday by his Vulcan Ventures investment group. Though Oxygen has not yet launched its Web sites, it also has backing from Oprah Winfrey's Harpo Entertainment Group, America Online and Disney.
Oxygen has deals to broadcast its cable channel, beginning in February, through Allen's Charter Communications cable systems along with Tele-Communications Inc. (TCI) and MediaOne Group.
He said the deal "demonstrates how Starbucks is linking up with the cutting-edge people and companies in the Internet business."
