There were several interesting dream sequences as I was asleep after waking up a while ago. The only scenes I can remember now are the ones I think happened just before I awoke. The details are vague now and I cannot remember which sequence of the two occurred first but in one sequence I seemed to have infiltrated an enemy facility and I was walking towards my destination. I can still visualize to some extent the walls and stairwells and walkways along the wall. Then I was fighting with someone and I can remember seeing my boot as the bottom of my black leather military boot struck him squarely on the chest and I am left with the sense that I had lunged at him and traveled through the air as I kicked him. I knocked him down and he was a large fellow and then I was walking away and again towards my destination which I do not now remember from the dream. I had traveled up to another level and was still walking and I was then fighting that other soldier again and I aware that I had several pistols and an assault rifle but I did not want to use them. One of my pistols even had a silencer but I did not want to shoot him. I subdued him again and I am left with the vague sense that I eventually did have to kill him with my weapon.

As it fell upon a day
In the merry month of May,
Sitting in a pleasant shade
Which a grove of myrtles made,
Beasts did leap, and birds did sing,
Trees did grow, and plants did spring;
Every thing did banish moan,
Save the nightingale alone:
She, poor bird, as all forlorn,
Lean'd her breast up-till a thorn
And there sung the dolefull'st ditty,
That to hear it was great pity:
'Fie, fie, fie,' now would she cry;
'Tereu, tereu!' by and by;
That to hear her so complain,
Scarce I could from tears refrain;
For her griefs, so lively shown,
Made me think upon mine own.
Ah, thought I, thou mourn'st in vain!
None takes pity on thy pain:
Senseless trees they cannot hear thee;
Ruthless beasts they will not cheer thee:
King Pandion he is dead;
All thy friends are lapp'd in lead;
All thy fellow birds do sing,
Careless of thy sorrowing.
Even so, poor bird, like thee,
None alive will pity me.
Whilst as fickle Fortune smiled,
Thou and I were both beguiled.
Every one that flatters thee
Is no friend in misery.
Words are easy, like the wind;
Faithful friends are hard to find:
Every man will be thy friend
Whilst thou hast wherewith to spend;
But if store of crowns be scant,
No man will supply thy want.
If that one be prodigal,
Bountiful they will him call,
And with such-like flattering,
'Pity but he were a king;'
If he be addict to vice,
Quickly him they will entice;
If to women he be bent,
They have at commandement:
But if Fortune once do frown,
Then farewell his great renown
They that fawn'd on him before
Use his company no more.
He that is thy friend indeed,
He will help thee in thy need:
If thou sorrow, he will weep;
If thou wake, he cannot sleep;
Thus of every grief in heart
He with thee doth bear a part.
These are certain signs to know
Faithful friend from flattering foe.

That comment I made to Lynn back in 2002 is really making sense now. After I got down to Provo for Ironman Utah 2002, scheduled for June 8th, I was unimpressed with their choice of having us swim in that lake. In hindsight, the concrete rubble on the shore probably was a decision factor. I am wondering if my nickname, or one of them as Kerry Burgess had several, was "Smash." Anyway, I told Lynn that after I walked down to the lake to survey the swim course, I wondered if Osama bin Laden was the race director. I commented something about how when they start an invasion, they go after the strongest people first. I am wondering today if, in the course of my professional military duties, I had been developing tactics of that very nature against military adversaries of the U.S. before my memory was blanked. I have been thinking that I was supposed to be awakened from this "hibernation" a long time ago. I have suspected for a long time that even George W. Bush was watching this Kerry Show, along with everyone else.

It is interesting that ya'll listen to every noise that is generated in this place, but yet you do nothing with it to help. It is just like that time I was in my apartment at Kent last year. Someone has had my domicile bugged for years and have been listening to every sound I make. But yet, when I was starving and went for 9 days without food, they wouldn't do anything about it. They sit there for 9 days knowing I was dying and did nothing. But when I later said something that could embarass me, they were all over it. Are terrorists in control of this building too?

Attorneys paint different views of Smith in opener

RICK BRAGG New York Times

WED 07/19/1995 HOUSTON CHRONICLE

UNION, S.C. - The prosecution urged the jurors at the Susan Smith trial to hold on to their common sense in the weeks ahead, and they would come to see Smith as a selfish, malicious killer who sacrificed her children for the love of the son of a rich industrialist.

The defense begged them to look into their hearts and, through that softer focus, find a disturbed, childlike figure who, after a lifetime of sadness, snapped like a dry twig.

As simplistic as those opposing views might seem, they will be the crux of the next month of testimony in Smith's capital murder trial, which officially began Tuesday with opening statements in the elegant old Union County Courthouse.

"For nine days in the fall of 1994, Susan Smith looked this country in the eyes and lied," said Keith Giese, a special prosecutor and assistant to the state's prosecutor, Tommy Pope. "She begged God to return her children to safety, and the whole time she knew her children were lying dead at the bottom of John D. Long Lake.

Address at Commencement Exercises at Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey

May 21, 1983

And I was fortunate. A man who had survived the Great Depression until then, and was doing well out in the business world, gave me some advice. He said, "Look, I could tell you that maybe I could speak to someone and they might give you a job. But," he said, "they'd only do it because of me." And then he said, "They wouldn't have a particular interest in you." He said, "May I tell you that even in the depths of this depression," and so I will say to you even in the depths of this recession, there are people out there who know that the future is going to depend on taking young people into whatever their undertaking is and starting them out so that—whether it's business, industry, or whatever it might be—it will continue on.

"Now," he said, "a salesman has to knock on a lot of doors before he makes a sale. So," he said, "if you will make up your mind what line of work you want to be in, what industry, what business, whatever it is, profession or other," he said, "and then start knocking on doors, eventually you'll come to one of those men or women who feels that way. And all you have to do-don't ask for the particular job you want; tell them you'll take any job in that industry or that business, whatever it may be, because you believe in it and its future and you'll take your chances on progressing from there."

"Clocks"

The lights go out and I can't be saved
Tides that I tried to swim against
Have brought me down upon my knees
Oh I beg, I beg and plead, singing

Come out of things unsaid
Shoot an apple off my head and a
Trouble that can't be named
A tiger's waiting to be tamed, singing

You are
You are

Confusion never stops
Closing walls and ticking clocks
Gonna come back and take you home
I could not stop that you now know, singing

Come out upon my seas
Cursed missed opportunities
Am I a part of the cure?
Or am I part of the disease? Singing

You are, you are, you are
You are, you are, you are

And nothing else compares
Oh nothing else compares
And nothing else compares

You are
You are

Home, home where I wanted to go
Home, home where I wanted to go
Home, home where I wanted to go
Home, home where I wanted to go
