PARIS: There, you see? I told you it wouldn't take long.
KIM: Is it true?
PARIS: Was the accident my fault? Yes. Pilot error. But it took me a while to admit it. Oh, fourteen varieties and they can't even get plain tomato soup right.
KIM: They said you falsified reports.
PARIS: That's right.
KIM: Why?
PARIS: What's the difference? I lied.
KIM: But then you came forward and you admitted that it was your fault?
PARIS: I'll tell you the truth, Harry. All I had to do was keep my mouth shut and I was home free. But I couldn't. The ghosts of those three dead officers came to me in the middle of the night and taught me the true meaning of Christmas. So I confessed. Worst mistake I ever made but not my last. After they cashiered me out of Starfleet, I went out looking for a fight and found the Maquis. And on my first assignment, I was caught.
KIM: It must have been especially tough for you, being the son of an admiral.
PARIS: Frankly, I think it was tougher on my father than it was on me. Look, I know those guys told you to stay away from me. And you know what? You ought to listen to them. I'm not exactly a good luck charm.

Right north of where the road crosses a big creek, is a point where it crosses a little creek. There are some unofficial campgrounds around the little creek bridge where I sleep in my Jeep a couple nights. I left a tent there too, it was too little to sleep in. Up the road to the north is an offroad to the right that goes up the mountain where I stayed for a while, but I'm having trouble locating it on the map. I really want to go back up there when I am free again from this chaos.

It don't mean nothing.
I remember very well the first night I was homeless. I think that was the first night. I had no idea where I would go, what I would do. I went to the drive-in theatre because I knew that place would be open late that night and the admission price was low. I was convinced that that only other car that was around me in those early morning hours was another zombie there to watch me. I remember clearly that one of the three movies showing that night, as I think I have that correct as I compose this note on my offline computer, in terms of how I think there were three new movies being shown two times during that night at the Auburn Valley drive-in theatre near where I had lived in Kent Washington State, and one of those new movies, which I had not ever seen until that night, was the racketeering production the 2005 film "Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith."
I can still recall that I think that was the same day when I had earlier gone back to the St. Francis hospital where the police had taken me and I wanted to talk to that psych. again but he wouldn't see me because he said there was nothing wrong with me. I think I remember that because I talked to him over the phone while I was in the emergency room where that had taken me and where they had given me a sandwich to eat and that I think was drugged because I had a hard time again restraining myself from laughing. Maybe only a person working in the emergency room told me the psych. said he wouldn't see me because there was nothing wrong with me. I don't really remember certain details. I don't think by that time I was still taking the drugs the St. Francis hospital psych. doctor had prescribed for me about a month or slightly less but I had been doped up for awhile by them.
I was cooperating.
I went to them for help and that was their plan.
Their plan.
Their plan was to dope me up.
That was over six years ago.
So anyway, I had gone back to the Kent City police and I suspected that racketeering corrupted organization had staged something around me when I went there because of the "Detective Murray" bullshit I got from them in their office that day.
Those pansy city police punks don't like me being an official United States of America federal government agent undercover.
I really look forward to being able to go in there and put the handcuffs on that son of a bitch and throw him into jail but that isn't going to happen. They won't be charged. Where they are going they will wish that the United States of America federal prison system had got them. They will really wish that I had been there to arrest them. And I cannot. I cannot provide that 'least measure.'
That was only about three weeks after they had me inpatient at St. Francis hospital in the town Federal Way in Washington State. I don't recall when I stopped taking their drugs. I do remember that I did go to the pharmacy and pick up the drugs they prescribed for me. I don't recall when I stopped taking their drugs. Maybe I stopped only because the prescription ran out. I don't recall. The psych. wouldn't see me but I can now recall to some degree that I talked to a social worker who wasn't very much help to me. Towards the end of our conversation when I had gone back to the emergency room of St. Francis hospital at the end of May 2005 I think she asked what I was going to do after I left the hospital and I mentioned about sleeping in my Jeep and that I would just drive around all night. She asked me "Is that safe?"
That was when I went to the drive-in theatre and I saw the racketeering production "Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith" for the first time. Things were kind of fuzzy around, probably still the effects of the medication I was forced to take because I was cooperating, and I was sleeping at a rest stop off the interstate just south of Seattle. I think back to that time and I seemed to have been there for a long time but that was probably only about three days. I decided I couldn't keep doing that though and that was when I decided to drive up into the mountains and so I did that and I was sleeping in my Jeep up there for well over a week.

Daniel's judge: Mr. Miller, I'm sure your defender has explained all of the basics to you, but let me just say. Even though this feels like a trial, it really isn't. It's just a process that helps us decide, and as inperfect as it may be, we think it works quite well.
Daniel's judge: What you're going to see on this screen, Mr. Miller, will look and feel so real to you you might be a little uneasy at first. But just relax. After a while, I think it will become pleasurable to you. They tell me it feels something like 3-D.
[female judge chuckles]
Daniel's judge: Any questions, Mr. Miller?
[Daniel shakes his head "No"]
Daniel's judge: Ms. Foster, you may begin.
Lena Foster: Thank you, your honors. Over the course of the following four days, I will attempt to show that Daniel Miller, while he's a quality human being, is still held back by the fears that plague him lifetime after lifetime. I believe that I can show, without a shadow of a doubt, that he must once again be returned to Earth to wrok on his problem.

Smoke and steam hangs over the volcano under the Eyjafjallajokull glacier in Iceland, Wednesday April 14, 2010, which has erupted for the second time in less than a month, melting ice, shooting smoke and steam into the air and forcing hundreds of people to flee rising floodwaters.

Monitoring the Eyjafjallajökull Eruption
April 22, 2010
Iceland’s Eyjafjallajökull (pronounced “AY-yah-fyah-lah-YOH-kuul”) Volcano roared to life on April 14, 2010, injecting billowing clouds of steam and volcanic ash into the atmosphere. The hazards of flying through jet-engine-damaging clouds of volcanic ash prompted commercial airlines to cancel thousands of flights into and out of northwestern Europe. Could this volcano, which has caused such major disruptions in airline travel, also impact climate?
Powerful eruptions that occurred over the last century — Mt. Pinatubo, El Chichon, Mt. Agung and others — have shown that some volcanoes can explode with enough force to launch huge amounts of sulfur dioxide, ash, and other particles into the upper atmosphere, or stratosphere. Called aerosols, these particles reflect incoming sunlight, thereby exerting a cooling influence on Earth’s surface. Aerosols also absorb heat energy, so their long-term affect on temperature is complex. Because aerosols linger in the stratosphere, above the level where rain clouds form, their cooling influence can last for many months. For example, after the massive eruption of Mt. Pinatubo in 1991, which lofted an ash plume more than 20 kilometers into the atmosphere, Earth’s mean surface temperature decreased by about half a degree Celsius for over a year.
To better understand how much ash the volcano is releasing into the atmosphere and where it is going, NOAA scientists use data from a satellite sensor that can distinguish the ash from clouds. The image above shows concentrations of volcanic ash in the atmosphere in tons per square kilometer. The images, derived from the NASA’s Aqua/MODIS satellite sensor, show days-old clouds of ash moving across Europe on April 16 (bottom), and a plume of ash as it headed south from Iceland on April 19 (top).
Thus far, the data indicate that the eruption has not injected enough aerosols high enough into the atmosphere to result in any planetary cooling. Plumes of steam and ash rose up to heights of 10,000 meters on the first day of the eruption, but have since declined to around 6,000 meters in altitude. The ash cloud would have to reach a height of 10,500 meters — about 33,000 feet — to put aerosols into the stratosphere.
NOAA scientists say that based on the fact that the plume’s current height is not reaching the stratosphere, the volcano is not likely to have a large effect on global climate at this time. However, the last eruption of Eyjafjallajokull lasted for two years. It is still too early to know what the climate impacts might be if the eruption continues
NOAA scientists continue to monitor the volcano to ensure the safety of airplanes. NOAA operates two Volcanic Ash Advisory Centers that are part of a global network of nine centers.

Iceland Volcano Erupts Again, 800 Evacuated
Updated 4:44 p.m. ET
A volcano under a glacier in Iceland erupted Wednesday for the second time in less than a month, melting ice, spewing smoke and steam, closing a major road and forcing hundreds of people to flee rising floodwaters.
Authorities evacuated 800 residents from around the Eyjafjallajokull glacier as water gushed down the mountainside and rivers rose by up to 10 feet (3 meters).
Iceland's main coastal ring road was closed near the volcano, and workers smashed holes in the highway in three spots in a bid to give the rushing water a clear route to the coast and prevent bridges from being swept away.
Vidir Reynisson, a manager with Iceland's Civil Protection Department, said that by late afternoon the flooding appeared to have peaked.
"But the water is still flowing down to the ocean so it will be some hours before we have a better view of what kind of damage has occurred," he said.
See a webcam of the erupting volcano
Scientists said the eruption under the ice cap was 10 to 20 times more powerful than one last month, and carried a much greater risk of widespread flooding.
"This is a very much more violent eruption, because it's interacting with ice and water," said Andy Russell, an expert in glacial flooding at the University of Newcastle in northern England. "It becomes much more explosive, instead of a nice lava flow oozing out of the ground."
Civil protection official Agust Gunnar Gylfason said emergency workers rescued some 70 tourists and visitors trapped near the volcano since Wednesday morning. He said the party - including Norwegian visitors - are now safe in a tourist facility and officials are trying to transport them out of the area.
No lives or properties were in immediate danger, Gylfason said. Scientists said there was no sign of increased activity at the much larger Katla volcano nearby.
Iceland's Meteorological Office said a plume of steam rose at least five miles (eight kilometers) into the air. Scientists aboard a Coast Guard plane that flew over the volcano said the new fissure appeared to be up to 1.2 miles (2 kilometers) long.
There were no immediate signs of large clouds of volcanic ash, which could disrupt air travel between Europe and North America. Some domestic flights were canceled

Statement on the Strategic Defense Initiative
March 22, 1991
Eight years ago, the Strategic Defense Initiative spurred research and development of technologies necessary to defend the United States and our allies from the threat posed by ballistic missiles. Since 1983, SDI has accomplished much. Technological and engineering breakthroughs have brought us closer to smart or even brilliant defenses. We have proved that it is possible to intercept a ballistic missile warhead in space. But much work remains to be done before we have the defenses we need.
Even as we are hopeful that we can achieve a more stable strategic balance with the Soviet Union, the threat from ballistic missile proliferation is growing. Today, U.S. forces abroad and U.S. allies live under a growing threat from ballistic missile attack. While the Patriot air defense system performed remarkably well, we can do far better in protecting our troops and our friends and allies. We will have to, because we will face much more dangerous threats than the Scud. Moreover, the decisions we make on SDI today will affect our capabilities into the next century. By then, the United States itself may also face a greater threat from ballistic missiles.
The primary limit to our ability to develop the technology necessary for ballistic missile defense is our commitment to do so. The pace of our research has been limited not by technological difficulties but by Congress' unwillingness to fund SDI adequately. I have listened to the concerns of congressional leaders and taken into account the changing strategic environment. As a result, I have refocused SDI's priorities to provide protection against limited ballistic missile strikes. Now it is up to Congress to respond by supporting my request for SDI funding.
Ballistic missile defenses threaten no one. Not only can they help preserve the peace but, as we have seen, they can save lives. Our troops and allies in the Middle East have already benefited from them. America deserves no less.

the forest road 2340 covered both of those bridges. The Google map indicates that the High Steel Bridge is forest road 2340 and that low bridge over that creek where I stopped where that national parks outhouse building was located is also listed as road 2340.

This goddamned distortion in my vision is so goddamned bad I can barely read anything. It is really pissing me off.

I can't tell from the Google maps what the boundaries are for that area but there is that one dirt road I was driving on, which is the road by that creek with the national parks outhouse, that leads almost the point on the map that is labeled Wonder Mountain Wilderness.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wonder_Mountain_Wilderness
Wonder Mountain Wilderness
Wonder Mountain Wilderness is a designated wilderness area encompassing Wonder Mountain in the Olympic National Forest on the Olympic Peninsula of Washington in the United States. The wilderness was established in 1984 and comprises 2,349 acres (10 km2). It borders Olympic National Park and is administered by the US Forest Service.
Wonder Mountain Wilderness is roughly triangle-shaped. A high ridge encompasses the southern point of the triangle, rising to the peak of 4,848-foot (1,478 m) Wonder Mountain. Below the summit stands a heavy forest of western hemlock, Douglas fir, and silver fir. Alder, willow, and vine maple grow along McKay Creek and Five Stream, both of which are have their headwaters in the wilderness. Huckleberry and thimbleberry are also common.
There are no trails leading into or through Wonder Mountain Wilderness. Two forest roads that run near the southeast and southwest borders close to motor vehicles in fall and winter
JOURNAL ARCHIVE: 01/16/11 4:43 PM
There was a fork in the road that I actually parked at for a while, perhaps on that first night I was there before I decided to go back to that area by the creek and the little concrete bridge where the other people were camped out. In one direction at that fork, which seemed to the continuation of the main road, although the map indicates the road number changes there, to travel straight would lead to where the road ended at what seems to the base of Wonder Mountain. I turned at that fork though, thus continuing on road 2340 but as I got closer to the peak, I followed road 2325 which travels up to what seems to the higher point on the road, although it might get higher slightly as it travels onward but I decided to stop at what seemed to be the peak because I was concerned that I was running low on cash and gasoline.

This is weird. The scene where he arrives to meet the students at the place he had earlier sent them reminds me of June 2005 when I drove to the mountains near Shelton. There was that place I stopped near the small bridge over the creek and there was a group of people camped out and I was annoyed they were there because I wanted that spot. What is weird is why that annoyed me. Only sometime later during the daylight could I have noted that was the best spot along that creek to camp out so why was I annoyed when I first got there during the night time and when there was so many other places to go to.

That scene makes me think of that pond in the woods near the High Steel Bridge where I was sleeping in my Jeep there for about 2 weeks.
I started off sleeping there on a road that led off the dirt road that was more of a secondary road from the main dirt road and sometimes I would sleep in my Jeep while parked on that moutain ridge about 5 miles west from there. When it got too cold to sleep in my Jeep on that ridge, I would sometimes drive back to that tertiary road near that pond.
I was convinced that I needed to be there and that I was waiting on something but I had no idea what I was waiting for other than the lingering notion that somebody was going to tell me something.

Quotes
Klaatu: You've been out of contact for a long time.
Mr. Wu: I had a dangerous assignment. This is hostile territory.
Klaatu: I've noticed. I was hoping I could reason with them.
Mr. Wu: I'm afraid they are not a reasonable race. I've been living amongst them for seventy years now. I know them well.
Klaatu: And?
Mr. Wu: Any attempt to intercede with them would be futile. They are destructive, and they won't change.
Klaatu: Is that your official report?
Mr. Wu: The tragedy is, they know what's going to become of them.
[Both Klaatu and Wu turn to look at Helen, Jacob and Wu's grandson who are seated at another table]
Mr. Wu: They sense it. But they can't seem to do anything about it.
[They switching to speaking English]
Mr. Wu: I'm staying.
Klaatu: You can't stay here.
Mr. Wu: I can and I will.
Klaatu: If you stay, you'll die.
Mr. Wu: I know. This is my home now.
Klaatu: You yourself called them a destructive race.
Mr. Wu: That's true. But still, there is another side. You see, I... I love them. It is a very strange thing. I... I... I can't find a way to explain it to you. For many years I cursed my luck for being sent here. Human life is difficult. But as this life is coming to an end... I consider myself lucky... to have lived it.
