Starship Troopers. Or: "But they’ve traced the money to ’em"

I despise that 1997 production "Starship Troopers".

My disdain is mainly because of the presence of the actor Casper Van Dien.

I feel his wimpy, limp-wrist presence ruins that production, a performance that otherwise with an adequate actor in the role he ruins would be entertaining Sci-fi. The only reason I ever foresee myself watching again that first installment and the later installments is only because of the work I have done here today. And still, I really don't want to sit through 2 hours of that 1997 production.

I guess I could cut them some slack.

But why?

Why should I?

I'm still sitting here today - AGAIN TODAY AT THIS SAME STUPID DESK! - and they are FAILING to cause success. FAIL! FAIL! FAIL!

Today I work for the first time to look closer at the information about him that is available on the internet and that makes sense to me why he was selected for the starring role, because - for some reason - some person needs to make a story that reinforces the allegations I made long ago that Microsoft Corbis Bill Gates is a transvestite, born 100% female gender and her-him-it has falsified her-its gender for purposes of malfeasance.

For me personally back in Orlando in 1984, there was talk that my performance thus far in basic electricity and electronics suggested I would be possibly awarded a coveted academic award by the end of the course. I was over 100 hundred hours ahead of the computer pace set for me and I had a very high examination score average.

Serving in the United States Navy in the 1980s was great. The part I hated about it was the people I was forced to work with in the late 1980s. Took me a long time to figure that out.

COLDPLAY

"Speed Of Sound"

How long before I get in?
Before it starts, before I begin?
How long before you decide?
Before I know what it feels like?
Where To, where do I go?
If you never try, then you'll never know.
How long do I have to climb,
Up on the side of this mountain of mine?

Look up, I look up at night,
Planets are moving at the speed of light.
Climb up, up in the trees,
every chance that you get,
is a chance you seize.
How long am I gonna stand,
with my head stuck under the sand?
I'll start before I can stop,
before I see things the right way up.

All that noise, and all that sound,
All those places I got found.
And birds go flying at the speed of sound,
to show you how it all began.
Birds came flying from the underground,
if you could see it then you'd understand?

Ideas that you'll never find,
All the inventors could never design.
The buildings that you put up,
Japan and China all lit up.
The sign that I couldn't read,
or a light that I couldn't see,
some things you have to believe,
but others are puzzles, puzzling me.

All that noise, and all that sound,
All those places I got found.
And birds go flying at the speed of sound,
to show you how it all began.
Birds came flying from the underground,
if you could see it then you'd understand,
ah when you see it then you'll understand?

All those signs, I knew what they meant.
Some things you can invent.
Some get made, and some get sent,
Ooh?
Birds go flying at the speed of sound,
to show you how it all began.
Birds came flying from the underground,
if you could see it then you'd understand,
ah, when you see it then you'll understand?

Where's your uniform?

Bill.

It's just good to hear from you.

How are you, son?

It's not really working out here for me, Dad. I was thinking-- I was hoping it would be all right if I came home.

Well, of-of course. You should come home immediately.

I'm sorry.

I've been an idiot.

Don't talk like that.

You just come on home... talk things out.

We love you, son.

Announcement press release

The following is the text of an IBM Information Systems Division press release headlined "Personal Computer Announced By IBM" and distributed on August 12, 1981.

IBM Corporation today announced its smallest, lowest-priced computer system -- the IBM Personal Computer.

Designed for business, school and home, the easy-to-use system sells for as little as $1,565. It offers many advanced features and, with optional software, may use hundreds of popular application programs.

The IBM Personal Computer will be sold through participating ComputerLand dealers and Sears, Roebuck and Co.'s new business machine stores beginning this fall. It will also be sold through IBM Product Centers and a special sales unit in the company's Data Processing Division.

"This is the computer for just about everyone who has ever wanted a personal system at the office, on the university campus or at home," said C. B. Rogers, Jr., IBM vice president and group executive, General Business Group. "We believe its performance, reliability and ease of use make it the most advanced, affordable personal computer in the marketplace."

IBM has designed its Personal Computer for the first-time or advanced user, whether a businessperson in need of accounting help or a student preparing a term paper.

An enhanced version of the popular Microsoft BASIC programming language and easily understood operation manuals are included with every system. They make it possible to begin using the computer within hours and to develop personalized programs quite easily.

Starship Troopers

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Starship Troopers is a military science fiction novel by American writer Robert A. Heinlein. Written in a few weeks in reaction to the U.S. suspending nuclear tests, the story was first published as a two-part serial in The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction as Starship Soldier, and published as a book by G. P. Putnam's Sons in December 1959.

The story is set in a future society ruled by a world government dominated by a military elite, referred to as the Terran Federation. The first-person narrative follows Juan "Johnny" Rico through his military service in the Mobile Infantry. Rico progresses from recruit to officer against the backdrop of an interstellar war between humans and an alien species known as "Arachnids" or "Bugs". Interspersed with the primary plot are classroom scenes in which Rico and others discuss philosophical and moral issues, including aspects of suffrage, civic virtue, juvenile delinquency, and war; these discussions have been described as expounding Heinlein's own political views.

Rico. Rico. Rico!

Pay attention.

Sorry, Mr Rasczak.

Let's sum up. This year we explored the failure of democracy...

Bad boy.

...how the social scientists brought our world... to the brink of chaos. We talked about the veterans, how they took control... and imposed the stability that has lasted for generations since. You know these facts... but have I taught you anything of value this year?

Hmm?

You. Why are only citizens allowed to vote?

It's a reward, what the Federation gives you for doing Federal Service.

No. No.

Something given has no value.

Look, when you vote, you are exercising political authority.

You're using force. And force, my friends, is violence, the supreme authority from which all other authority is derived.

Starship Troopers (1997)

(from internet transcript)

The contrary opinion, that violence never solves anything, is wishful thinking at its worst. People who forget that always pay. Rico, what's the moral difference, if any... between a civilian and a citizen?

A citizen accepts personal responsibility for the safety... of the body politic, defending it with his life. A civilian does not.

The exact words of the text. But do you understand it? Do you believe it?

I don't know.

Of course you don't. I doubt anyone here would recognize civic virtue... if it reached up and bit you in the ass.

Not here.

Come on, let's see if they posted the math final.
