VALA
It's not at all fair to the host, anyway.

DANIEL
Vala, you don't really think there's any hope for the… I mean, you were host to Qetesh for a relatively short period of time. Ba'al's been inhabiting this guy for over two thousand years!

TOK'RA ELDER
(lowering hood)
Revive the prisoner.

[The stasis field around Ba'al fades away. He takes a deep breath then looks around the room.]

VALA
(to Daniel)
Watch him try and make a run for it.

DANIEL
(looking around)
Well, with all this security, I really don't think he's going to get very far.

BA'AL
(looking around)
And uh, where is my dear Qetesh?

DANIEL
Well, Vala was here.

BA'AL
(smiling)
Huh. Interesting.

DANIEL
Seriously, did anybody see where Vala went?

MITCHELL
It's like he was there on second, and—

DANIEL
The next second he was gone, just like Vala. I think we'd better get the hell out of here.

Chechaquo

This is an excerpt from To Build A Fire that made an impression with me early on and has felt especially relevant for the past few years:

But all this--the mysterious, far-reaching hairline trail, the absence of sun from the sky, the tremendous cold, and the strangeness and weirdness of it all--made no impression on the man. It was not because he was long used to it. He was a new-comer in the land, a chechaquo, and this was his first winter. The trouble with him was that he was without imagination. He was quick and alert in the things of life, but only in the things, and not in the significances. Fifty degrees below zero meant eighty odd degrees of frost. Such fact impressed him as being cold and uncomfortable, and that was all. It did not lead him to meditate upon his frailty as a creature of temperature, and upon man's frailty in general, able only to live within certain narrow limits of heat and cold; and from there on it did not lead him to the conjectural field of immortality and man's place in the universe. Fifty degrees below zero stood for a bite of frost that hurt and that must be guarded against by the use of mittens, ear-flaps, warm moccasins, and thick socks. Fifty degrees below zero was to him just precisely fifty degrees below zero. That there should be anything more to it than that was a thought that never entered his head.

MITCHELL
All right. So, which way?

CARTER
Well, we're above the Arctic Circle, so does it really matter?

MITCHELL
South it is.

CARTER
Daniel!

MITCHELL
In which case, I would have never crashed my F-302, which means I wouldn't have a titanium pin in my leg, killing me, which it is, right now.

CARTER
You're right.

MITCHELL
Sam, we have to keep moving.

CARTER
Why? If we're going to freeze to death, here's as good a spot as any, isn't it?

MITCHELL
Uh, I don't like this spot.

CARTER
Cam, come on. What is the point? There's no one around for hundreds of—

[She spots something and points to it.]

CARTER
What is that?

[Two people are walking toward them, dressed in white outerwear and carrying weapons. Carter and Mitchell start jogging toward the people. They meet.]

O'NEILL
Hey! Which one of you is Mitchell?

MITCHELL
That'd be me.

Perry Mason Season 8 Episode 13

The Case of the Blonde Bonanza

Aired Saturday 7:30 PM Dec 17, 1964 on CBS

Quotes

Della: (after Horing leaves the office) Portrait of a promoter in panic. Perry, you're beautiful. Dianne may have trouble losing those pounds but she'll certainly never have trouble with that stupid man.

Perry: Della, that contract never had anything to do with fashions and it never did. I should have spotted it the other night. Every single word about Dianne losing weight as a model is a just a red herring, just camouflage. Call Paul and tell him to meet me at the office of Montrose Foster.

"It appears to be a multi-phasic temporal convergence in the space-time continuum."

After waking today I started to wonder if there is a pattern to the days I have the recurring dreams about hallways and corridors and passageways and elevators and stairwells. I wrote a brief description without going to a lot of detail I can still visualize and after waking and then just now late this afternoon I thought to check the date for the pattern.
