What I really wanted to note here is what I could have sworn I wrote before in my journal but that I cannot now find a reference to after a few minutes searching. I am very certain that was from the year 1999 and I was talking to Laura Mason in our Microsoft office in the high-rise building in downtown Bellevue with our beautiful view of the Seattle skyline from across Lake Washington. I forget my precise words but what I said to her once there in the first few months after I started working at Microsoft after moving there from South Carolina was what I thought about the simplification of my life. The fewer keys on my keyring were directly proportional to the complications in my life. I could gauge the complications in my life by the number of keys on my keyring is something similar to what I said to her one day at work.

Yesterday, I started thinking that maybe no one is going to just give me the explanation I have been waiting on. Instead, what I think is going to happen is someone is going to hand me a set of keys and say "Here you go. One shiny, pre-owned Microsoft. Have fun." I just wonder if Bill Gates is a smoker and if so, whether I will be able to get that smoky smell out of it before I take it for a drive.
