Obama takes first step in presidential bid

WASHINGTON – Democratic Sen. Barack Obama said today he is taking the initial step in a presidential bid that could make him the nation's first black to occupy the White House.
Obama announced on his Web site, www.barackobama.com, that he was filing a presidential exploratory committee. He said he would announce more about his plans in his home state of Illinois on Feb. 10.

The Rose Garden, commonly known as the Rose Garden Arena, is the primary indoor sports arena in Portland, Oregon, United States.
It is owned by Vulcan Inc., a holding company owned by Paul Allen, and is currently managed by Global Spectrum, a company which manages sports facilities (and which also owns several sports franchises).[2] The primary tenant is the Portland Trail Blazers NBA franchise, also owned by Allen.

Vulcan and Portland Arena Management have completed the deal for Vulcan to acquire the Rose Garden arena. Terms weren't disclosed. Read the full release here.
UPDATE: Tod Leiweke, president of Vulcan Sports and Entertainment, says that overall Vulcan approves of the job that Global Spectrum has done in managing the Rose Garden. They're in preliminary talks to see if they can work out a longterm deal with them.

Months of stalking end with 2 dead at UW
Rebecca Griego called her ex-boyfriend Jonathan Rowan "a psycho from the past." He wouldn't stop calling her office at the University of Washington. When she no longer would answer the phone, he harassed her sister and threatened to kidnap her dogs.
On Monday morning, Rowan found Griego alone in her fourth-floor office in Gould Hall and fatally shot her before killing himself.

Tod Leiweke (born January 12, 1960 in St. Louis, Missouri) is an American sports executive. He is currently the Chief Executive Officer of the Seattle Seahawks National Football League team, owned by Paul Allen; Leiweke also is the CEO of Vulcan Sports and Entertainment (VSE), a management company also owned by Allen which oversees Allen's sports-related properties.

Dunleavy next Trail Blazer coach?
PORTLAND - Two NBA coaches say they've heard the Portland Trail Blazers have decided to replace Coach P.J. Carlesimo and that Mike Dunleavy, former Milwaukee coach and general manager, will be the new coach, Oregonian sports columnist Dwight Jaynes reported today.
Jaynes said Dunleavy acknowledged being contacted about NBA coaching jobs but would not be specific.
"Three teams have contacted me," Dunleavy told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "I haven't gotten anything with anybody. I've just started finding out what the interest levels are. Right now, I'm in a real preliminary stage."

In the United States, the rank of Fleet Admiral is reserved for war time use, with the last promotions to position coming during World War II. It is usually a rank above Admiral, and is often held by the most senior Admiral of an entire naval service. It is also a generic term for a senior Admiral in command of a large group of ships, comprising a fleet or, in some cases, a group of fleets. If actually a rank (equivalent to an army Field Marshal or General of the Army, which ranks above General), its name varies depending on the country, including Fleet Admiral, Admiral of the Fleet, Admiral of the Navy, and Grand Admiral.
