Starbucks, the king of coffee beans, sold its first shares of stock to the public today, and lines were as long as the queues at its 140 locations in seven metropolitan areas.
Starbucks' 2.1 million shares were priced to start trading at $17 a share, but the stock opened $4 higher at $21, and closed at $21.50. At that price, it made Chairman Howard Schultz's 1.1 million shares worth $23.5 million.

It was test-exploded on 29 August 1949, at Semipalatinsk, Kazakh SSR, after a top-secret R&D project. The weapon was designed at the Kurchatov Institute—at the time officially known as "Laboratory No. 2," but designated as the "office" or "base" in internal documents—starting in April 1946. A uranium-235 plant was built near Chelyabinsk in 1948.
The RDS-1 explosion yielded 22 kilotons of TNT, similar to the American Gadget and Fat Man bombs. At Lavrenty Beria's insistence, the RDS-1 bomb was designed after the Fat Man bomb dropped on Nagasaki, Japan.

Kurchatov and Beria watched from a bunker several kilometers away. When the site was cleared and everything was ready, Kurchatov ordered his team to begin the countdown. After several minutes, the automatic system detonated the bomb.
They watched in awe as the bomb exploded, but cheered after the shock wave passed their bunker.
"It worked! It worked!" Kurchatov yelled.

The ultimate strangers in a strange land, travel-weary astronauts Gene Cernan and Harrison "Jack" Schmitt huddled in their tiny Apollo 17 lunar lander, ate military-issue omelets, harmonized "good morning to you" and stumbled through a silly parody of The Night Before Christmas.
The date was Dec. 14, 1972, the day America retreated from the moon.
Apollo 17, launched 30 years ago Saturday, represents the closing chapter in an awe-inspiring series of a half-dozen, 240,000-mile expeditions that unfolded over a dizzying 42 months. The Apollo program delivered a dozen American astronauts to the moon's rugged terrain for an unprecedented, firsthand look at another world.
Cernan and Schmitt had spent 75 hours on the lunar surface in a boulder-strewn, mountain valley known as Taurus-Littrow. While there, they took three grueling moon walks totaling 22 hours and covered 20 miles in a battery-powered lunar rover, collecting samples of the craters, rocks and mountain slopes.
Giddy with exhaustion, they were ready to come home.
As their final day on the moon wore on, light-hearted banter with Mission Control in Houston became serious as Cernan, the commander, and Schmitt, the pilot, turned their attention to the checklist they had to complete before the fragile spacecraft could leave for Earth.
Finally, at 4:56 p.m. CST, Cernan turned to Schmitt for a final exchange, "OK, Jack, let's get this mother outta here."
Schmitt jabbed a control panel button that sparked the spacecraft's ascent rocket in response and announced, "Ignition."
With those last words, the boxy lunar lander leaped away in a cloud of dust and gravel. Cernan, the last human to walk on the moon, and Schmitt, the only trained scientist ever to make the voyage, were headed back to Earth with 243 pounds of moon rocks.

Captain Apollo
Captain Apollo is the name of a fictitious character in the original Battlestar Galactica television series. He was played by Richard Hatch, who would also later appear as the character of Tom Zarek in the reimagined Battlestar Galactica series in 2005.
Apollo was a Viper spacefighter pilot of the Battlestar Galactica, and the son of Commander Adama. (A diary entry from Adama in one of the novelizations based on the original television series says that he was named for one of Adama's squadron mates from his time aboard the battlestar Cerberus.) His sister is Lieutenant Athena, and his mother was Ila.
Apollo's history has been marred by tragedy. The loss of the Twelve Colonies deprived him of not only his home, but many of his personal relationships. His brother Zac was shot down by a Cylon ambush. Zac's viper was damaged, and Apollo left him behind in order to warn the Galactica of the ambush. His mother Ila was killed in the subsequent Cylon sneak attack. Later on, Apollo married Serina, a reporter-turned-shuttle-pilot who became a reserve Viper pilot. Shortly after their wedding, she was killed by Cylons on Kobol. Apollo then adopted Serina's son, Boxey and became a single father to him.
In the final episode of the series, Apollo becomes romantically involved with Lieutenant Sheba. His best friend is Lieutenant Starbuck.
Apollo is arguably the central character of Battlestar Galactica, as most of the storylines and character relationships revolve around him.
Apollo always flies with Starbuck as his wingman. The exception is in the episode Lost Planet of the Gods, where he flies with Serina in her second and last mission as a Viper pilot. Starbuck and Apollo frequently fly with Lieutenant Boomer as a third wingman.

Cylons (TOS)
The Cylons are entirely composed of robots, originally the creation of a reptilian race that were also known as Cylons.
The Thousand Yahren War between the humans of the Twelve Colonies and the Cylons began when the Colonials liberated the Hasari from Cylon rule. The Cylons then viewed humanity as a threat to their Empire and proceeded to attack Colonial installations.
The Cylons and the humans fought for roughly one thousand yahren, with losses on both sides.
The final end to the war occurred after the Cylons proposed peace through the mediation of Baltar, a member of the Quorum of Twelve. However, instead of concluding peace, the Cylons destroyed the human Battlestar force in the Battle of Cimtar and also attacked the Colonies, killing most inhabitants. Baltar, who had intended to use the Cylons to subjugate his colony under his rule, saw his colony destroyed to and barely escaped execution. (Saga of a Star World)

And when I think of them, I remember a story I read once, and it was actually a novel, written by James Warner Bella, who used to write those great cavalry-Indian pictures that John Ford and John Wayne would do. [Laughter] He was called the Kipling of America for writing of that great era in American history.
But I remembered in this one story he had troops, a cavalry detachment out, a war party, and so forth. And the commanding officer fell mortally wounded, and he called the next in command over, who was to take over. And the lines I've never forgotten. He said to him as he was dying, "There may be only one time, one moment in your life when you will be called upon to do the nasty thing that has to be done, when you are the only one that can serve your country in that moment." He said, "Do it or the taste will be forever ashes in your mouth."
The men you honor tonight have no taste of ashes in their mouths. And [it is] because there were men and there are men today in this land of ours who are willing to do that thing that only they are in a position to do that we're able to meet as we meet tonight, we're able to have a day in which we continue 200 years of an orderly exchange of leadership and reigns of authority in our Government without military overthrow or force or violence, that we're able to still breathe free. Long Lines Of Investors As Starbucks' Stock Arrives On Wall Street

Starbucks, the king of coffee beans, sold its first shares of stock to the public today, and lines were as long as the queues at its 140 locations in seven metropolitan areas.
Starbucks' 2.1 million shares were priced to start trading at $17 a share, but the stock opened $4 higher at $21, and closed at $21.50. At that price, it made Chairman Howard Schultz's 1.1 million shares worth $23.5 million.
