AMC Orders Pilot For 'The Walking Dead' TV Series

"The Walking Dead" television series took a big step forward today with the announcement that AMC has ordered a pilot for the adaptation of Robert Kirkman's post-apocalyptic drama.

According to an official statement from the network, the "Walking Dead" pilot will go into production in the second quarter of 2010. Kirkman will serve as executive producer on the "Walking Dead" series alongside Frank Darabont ("The Shawshank Redemption," "The Mist"), who will also write and direct the pilot.

It's official: AMC is picking up The Walking Dead pilot! While this doesn't mean that the show will definitely go to a series, it is a very promising sign considering most shows that AMC has greenlit for a pilot have gone to a series including Mad Men and Breaking Bad.

Based on the Robert Kirkman comic book of the same name, The Walking Dead is certainly in good hands. Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption, The Mist) is writing, directing, and executive producing, while Gale Anne Hurd (The Terminator, Aliens) will also executive produce. For those that aren't familiar with the comic book, Walking Dead follows police officer Rick Grimes and some fellow survivors in the wake of a zombie apocalypse.

Plot Summary
