Who Shot Mr. Burns? Part Two
Original airdate in N.A.: 17-Sep-95
Kent Brockman apprises everyone of the news of Smithers' innocence.
Kent: And with the prime suspect cleared and found completely innocent, we must now ask ourselves: who could possibly be as bloodthirsty as Waylon Smithers?
Marge: I guess it's never the most likely suspect.
Lisa: Actually, Mom, in 95% of cases, it is. The rest of the time, it's usually some deranged lunatic who did it for no reason.
[everyone looks at Homer]
Homer: Hey! I had a damn good reason. He could never remember my name.
[flashback to part one]
Burns: Who the devil are you?
Homer: [loses it, rushes Burns] Homer Simpson!
Burns: You're just babbling incoherently.
Homer: My name is Homer Simpson...
[back to the present]
Lisa: Well I don't think anyone in this family is capable of attempted murder.
Abe: Eh...you never know what you're capable of. I never thought I could shoot down a German plane, but last year I proved myself wrong.

July 26, 1989: First Indictment Under Computer Fraud Act
By Tony Long
July 26, 2011 7:00 am
1989: Robert Tappan Morris, a Cornell University graduate student, is the first person to be indicted under the 1986 Computer Fraud and Abuse Act.
Morris was prosecuted for creating and releasing the Morris worm, generally recognized as the first computer worm to infect the internet. He released the worm from computers at MIT in order to keep the light of suspicion away from Cornell.

Student Indicted in '88 Computer 'Virus' Incident
July 27, 1989 From Associated Press
WASHINGTON — A Cornell University graduate student was indicted Wednesday on a felony charge in connection with a computer "virus" that paralyzed as many as 6,000 computers last fall.
Robert Tappan Morris, 24, who has been suspended from the university for one year, was indicted by a federal grand jury in Syracuse, N. Y. He was charged with unauthorized use of at least four university and military computers.
The computer-crime indictment charges that the virus, an encoded program that affected a nationwide network of computers, prevented the authorized use of those computers by universities and military bases.
The Justice Department said in a statement released here that Morris was the first person to be charged under a provision of the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act of 1986, which prohibits unauthorized computer access and also outlaws gaining entry to damage or destroy electronic files.
The indictment followed months of deliberations within the Justice Department over whether felony or misdemeanor charges should be sought.
Defense attorney Thomas A. Guidoboni said that Morris, of Arnold, Md., would plead not guilty. If convicted, he could be sentenced to five years in prison and fined up to $250,000.
The anti-hacker law also requires restitution of losses to injured parties, but prosecutors did not specify how much damage was caused by the Nov. 2, 1988, incident, which virtually shut down a military-university computer network that is used to transmit unclassified data.

Ernie Pyle
Ernie Pyle, byname of Ernest Taylor Pyle (born Aug. 3, 1900—died April 18, 1945), American journalist who was one of the most famous war correspondents of World War II.
Pyle studied journalism at Indiana University and left school to become a reporter for a small-town newspaper. Later, after various editorial jobs, he acquired a roving assignment for the Scripps-Howard newspaper chain; his daily experiences furnished him material for a column that eventually appeared in as many as 200 newspapers before World War II. His coverage of the campaigns in North Africa, Sicily, Italy, and France brought him a Pulitzer Prize for reporting in 1944, as well as several other awards. The motion picture G.I. Joe (1945) was about Pyle’s coverage of the Italian campaign. He was with the U.S. forces in the Pacific on Iwo Jima, and during the Okinawa campaign he visited the nearby island of Ie Shima, where he was killed by Japanese machine-gun fire.

Who Shot Mr. Burns? Part Two
Original airdate in N.A.: 17-Sep-95
Mr. Burns finally comes to and says, "Homer Simpson!" Eddie and Lou grin at one another. "Bingo: the gunman has a name-o!" Eddie smiles. A Swat team bursts into the Simpson house and starts destroying things.
Lisa: Hey! Chief Wiggum, what are you doing? What's going on?
Wiggum: I'm sorry, kid, we got Simpson DNA on Burns' clothing and your father was identified by the old man himself.
Everyone: [gasps]
Bart: [scoffing] DNA, positive ID -- those won't hold up in any court. Run, Dad!
[Homer runs into Lou]
Lou: Hey ho! Look what I found under Mr. Simpson's car seat.
[holds up a revolver with rubber gloves]
[Eddie dusts it for prints]
Homer: I swear, I've never seen that gun before!
Eddie: [grabbing a glass from Homer's hand] Then why are your fingerprints all over it, Sir?
Homer: Aah!
[Wiggum opens the chamber and pulls out a bullet]
Wiggum: This bullet matches the one we pulled out of Mr. Burns! Homer Simpson, you're under arrest for attempted murder.
Homer: [getting cuffed] D'oh!
Wiggum: Yeah, that's what they all say. They all say "D'oh".
[End of Act Two. Time: 15:06]
Wiggum leads a shackled Homer into the back of a prison van and speeds away from the Simpson home. He stops at the Krusty Burger Drive Thru for breakfast.
Wiggum: We need two cups of coffee, and two orders of bite-sized breakfast pancakes. With extra dipping sauce.
Kid: Please pull up to the service window, please.
Wiggum: [tries] The wagon's too tall! Oh, I don't want to have to get out. Ehh, I'll just drive up on the curb.
[does so, leans out window to grab order]
[van starts tipping]
Wiggum: Almost got it...
Lou: Drop the food, chief!
[van falls over; back door opens and Homer stands up]
[Jasper pulls up in an old car]
Jasper: [honks] Damn fools! Drive Thru's not for a-parking.
[floors it, then skids to halt, pushing the van out forward]
[Homer hobbles in front of it, trying to avoid it]
Kid: Diane? I'm going to take my break now.
At the hospital, Burns eats breakfast in bed.
Nick: [opening the door] Hi, everybody!
Burns: Ho, mer-Simp son!
Nick: OK, that was a little strange. Um, tell me: how are you feeling today?
Burns: Homer. Simpson, Homer. D'oh...Simpson.
Nick: Hmm. That seems to be all you can say. When you were in that coma, did you feel your brain getting damaged?

Suddenly, the lights began to go off. One of the pilots mused, "I think they know we are here." Thirty seconds prior, the Apache crews turned on their ranging lasers. At exactly 2:37:50 AM, White Team Apache pilot 2d Lt. Tom Drew keyed his radio and broadcast, "Party in ten." Precisely ten seconds later all crews began firing their Hellfire missiles. Twenty seconds later, the deadly weapons began to detonate against the structures. The generators were hit first, then the command bunkers, and finally, the radar dishes themselves. Several Iraqi enemy soldiers died in the barrage.
Once all the Hellfires had been expended, the helicopters flew toward the sites and ripple-fired their rockets. Two thousand meters from the sites, they opened up with their 30 mm chain guns and riddled what remained of the compounds with every bullet they had. Four minutes after it started, it was over. The Apaches had expended twenty-seven Hellfire missiles, 100 Hydra-70 rockets, and 4,000 rounds of 30 mm cannon fire. They turned south, rejoined with the Pave Lows, and headed home. En route, Captain Martin's crew observed what appeared to be the launch of two SA-7 missiles. They utilized their on-board defensive systems and some aggressive maneuvering to escape the missiles.

July 23, 1990 Vol. 34 No. 3 Survivors of Flight 232 Reflect on the Year-Ago Crash That Spared Them but Took 112 to Their Graves
By William Plummer
Charles Martz Jr. has always considered himself lucky. A year ago this week he was sitting up and looking out the window of a United Airlines DC-10—an ex-Navy pilot, he believes the bent-over "crash position" is useless—when the plane hit the ground at Sioux City, Iowa, and started to cartwheel down an airport runway. "It seemed like we skidded forever," Martz remembers. "Then came the sound of metal tearing and screeching. You couldn't hear people sounds. It was like being in the middle of a drum." Moments later, the 59-year-old cable-TV executive from Castle Pines, Colo., unscathed but for a dirty shirt, dropped from the smoking, overturned plane into a scene out of Dante. "It was like I was all alone, except for these bodies strewn all over this muddy cornfield. And I thought, 'Where is everybody? I can't be the sole survivor.' "

No Time Like the Past
Aired Unknown Mar 07, 1963 on CBS
Quotes
Hanford:[at dinner] ... So what are your world views, Driscoll?
Paul: ...I don't have any, Mr. Hanford.
Hanford: Of course you do, man. We ALL do! Like all this nonsense about giving the Indians land. What we need are twenty General Custers and a hundred thousand men! What we should have done is swept across the prairie, destroying every redskin that stood before us. After that, we should have planted the American flag deep, high and proud!
Abigail: I think the country is tired of fighting, Mr. Hanford. I think we were bled dry by the Indian Wars. I think anything we can accomplish peacefully, with treaties, we should accomplish that way.
Hanford: Now, I trust this isn't the path you spoon-feed your students. Treaties, indeed! Peace, indeed! Why, the virility of a nation is in direct proportion to its military prowess. I LIVE for the day when this country SWEEPS AWAY...
[notices Driscoll's disapproving look]
Hanford: ... You some kind of a pacifist, Driscoll?
Paul: No, just some sick idiot who's seen too many boys die because of too many men who fight their battles at dining room tables... and who probably wouldn't last forty-five seconds in a REAL skirmish if they WERE thrust into it.
Hanford: ...I take offense at that remark, Mr. Driscoll!
Paul: And I take offense at "armchair warriors," who don't know what a shrapnel, or a bullet, or a saber wound feels like... who've never smelled death after three days on an empty battlefield... who've never seen the look on a man's face when he realizes he's lost a limb or two, and his blood is seeping out. Mr. Hanford, you have a great affinity for "planting the flag deep." But you don't have a nodding acquaintance of what it's like for families to bury their sons in the same soil!

Quotes
(Closing Narration)
Narrator: Incident on a July afternoon, 1881. A man named Driscoll who came and went and, in the process, learned a simple lesson, perhaps best said by a poet named Lathbury, who wrote, 'Children of yesterday, heirs of tomorrow, what are you wearing? Labor and sorrow? Look to your looms again, faster and faster fly the great shuttles prepared by the master. Life's in the loom, room for it--room!' Tonight's tale of clocks and calendars--in the Twilight Zone.

Quotes
(Opening Narration)
Narrator: Exit one Paul Driscoll, a creature of the twentieth century. He puts to a test a complicated theorum of space-time continuum, but he goes a step further--or tries to. Shortly, he will seek out three moments of the past in a desperate attempt to alter the present--one of the odd and fanciful functions in a shadowland known as the Twilight Zone.

NARRATOR: Before the planes could attack, Task Force Normandy would fire the first shots of the war. Its Apache gunships had been training for months. Their mission was vital: to destroy at all costs two Iraqi radar sites that would otherwise give Baghdad an early warning of what was to come.
[1:00 A.M., January 17, 1991] It was a moonless night. Eight Apaches armed with Hellfire missiles took off towards Iraq. This is a pilot's eye view, videotape from one helicopter's night vision camera. The gunships flew just a few feet off the desert until they were eight miles from the radar dishes.
Lt. TOM DREW, Task Force Normandy: We slowed our air speed to about 40 knots, came up on line, all abreast, so we're all the same distance from the target. And at this point, I'm not looking through my goggles. I'm looking at a T.V. screen right in front of me. Watched the clock tick to zero and I gave the code word "Get some." At that point, everybody fired their Hellfires.
Get some!
1st HELICOPTER PILOT: Second missile.
NARRATOR: From a range of four miles, each crew aimed a laser beam that guided their missiles. The Iraqis had anti-aircraft guns, but could not see or hear the helicopters. This was a new kind of war.

Prisoner of War Medal
The Prisoner of War Medal is a military award of the United States armed forces which was authorized by Congress and signed into law by President Ronald Reagan on 8 November 1985. The United States Code citation for the POW Medal statute is 10 U.S.C. § 1128.
The Prisoner of War Medal may be awarded to any person who was a prisoner of war after April 5, 1917, (the date of the United States entry into World War I was the 6th). It is awarded to any person who was taken prisoner or held captive while engaged in an action against an enemy of the United States; while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an opposing Armed Force; or while serving with friendly forces engaged in armed conflict against an opposing Armed Force in which the United States is not a belligerent party. As of an amendment to Title 10 of the United States Code in 1989, the medal is also awarded for captivity by foreign armed forces that are hostile to the United States, under circumstances which the Secretary concerned finds to have been comparable to those under which persons have generally been held captive by enemy armed forces during periods of armed conflict. The person's conduct, while in captivity, must have been honorable. This medal may be awarded posthumously to the surviving next of kin of the recipient.

Marge sits at the kitchen table with Lisa.
Marge: The police have such a strong case against Homer. Mr. Burns said he did it, they have Homer's DNA --
Lisa: They have Simpson DNA! It could have come from any of us, except you, since you're a Bouvier.
Marge: No! No, no, when I took your father's name, I took everything that came with it -- including DNA.
Lisa: [giving up] OK, Mom.
Lisa: Anyway, my point is, the evidence isn't as concrete as it seems. Like those fingerprints: they could have gotten on the gun some other way.
