I said to Hollywood, "Where'd he go?" Hollywood says, "Where'd who go?"

KIRK: How are the stone knives and bearskins?

SPOCK: I may have found our focal point in time.

KIRK: You may also find you have a connection burning someplace.

SPOCK: Yes. I'm overloading those lines. I believe we'll have our answer on this screen.

KIRK: Good.

SPOCK: And, Captain, you may find this a bit distressing.

KIRK: Let's see what you have.

SPOCK: I've slowed down the recording we made from the time vortex.

KIRK: February 23rd, 1936. Six years from now. (reading below the headline FDR confers with slum area 'angel') The President and Edith Keeler conferred for some time today

(Then the whole thing goes up in flames.)

KIRK: How bad?

SPOCK: Bad enough.

KIRK: The President and Edith Keeler.

SPOCK: It would seem unlikely, Jim.

The American Presidency Project

George W. Bush

XLIII President of the United States: 2001 - 2009

Remarks on Human Cloning Prohibition Legislation

April 10, 2002

Well, thank you all so very much for coming to the White House. It's my honor to welcome you to the people's house.

I particularly want to honor three folks who I had the honor of meeting earlier— Joni Tada, Jim Kelly, and Steve McDonald. I want to thank you for your courage; I want to thank you for your wisdom; I want to thank you for your extraordinary perseverance and faith. They have triumphed in the face of physical disability and share a deep commitment to medicine that is practiced ethically and humanely.

All of us here today believe in the promise of modern medicine. We're hopeful about where science may take us. And we're also here because we believe in the principles of ethical medicine. As we seek to improve human life, we must always preserve human dignity. And therefore, we must prevent human cloning by stopping it before it starts.

Remarks by the President at Luncheon for Senator Patty Murray[ RACKETEER INFLUENCED AND CORRUPT ORGANIZATIONS US Title 18 ]

The Westin Seattle, Seattle, Washington

1:03 P.M. PDT

THE PRESIDENT: Thank you! It is good to be in Washington! (Applause.) It is good to be in Washington -- it is good to be in Seattle.

So, basically, what this campaign is coming down to is that between now and November they’re betting that you will all come down with a case of amnesia. (Laughter.) They’re basically -- they’re counting on the fact that you don’t remember; that you’re going to forget what happened when they were in charge for the last -- for eight years.

They spent almost a decade driving the economy into a ditch. I mean, think about it if this -- if the economy was a car and they drove it into the ditch. (Laughter.) And so me and Patty, and a bunch of others, we go down there and we put on our boots and we’re pushing and shoving. And it’s muddy and there are bugs and we’re sweating -- (laughter) -- and shoving, pushing hard. And they’re all standing there sipping Slurpees -- (laughter) -- and watching and -- “you’re not pushing hard enough.” “That’s not the right way to push.” (Pretends to sip a Slurpee.) (Laughter and applause.)

CSP honors 7-Eleven's Joe DePinto as 2011 Retail Leader of the Year

By Angel Abcede, Senior Editor/Content Development Coordinator, CSP

October 12, 2011

CHICAGO -- Chicago is Joe DePinto's kind of town. It's where he grew up, in suburban Des Plaines, Ill. And with a rendering of the city's broad-shouldered skyline as a backdrop, the president and CEO of 7-Eleven accepted the award for CSP magazine's Retail Leader of the Year earlier this month before about 400 industry leaders, spouses and supplier partners.

The 48-year-old son of a working, middle-class family accepted the award on behalf of his wife, family, friends and the management, field staff and franchisees that make up the 8,800 7-Eleven c-stores here in North America.

Before a sea of suits and gowns, chandeliers above and the presence of beloved family and revered colleagues, DePinto described feeling overwhelmed, as if "energy" was pulled out of him. "I'm truly honored for such a special recognition," he said after the cocktail reception and dinner at the Four Seasons downtown. "It's humbling."

The presentation portion of the evening kicked off with Sonja Hubbard, CEO of Texarkana, Texas-based E-Z Mart Stores Inc., taking the role of M.C.

I might have sent Lesa Jewell photos from the two sprint triathlons I finished in 2003. I don't know. Seafair maybe.

I remember the photos from one where I wondered to myself if a woman had timed it so she would be in the photo with me. The photographer was in clear view.

Those sprint-distance triathlon, which I think as the most common, are the easiest distance for me to cover. Or at least they were. I doubt I could finish the swim course today. Back then though that distance was more of a training day for me. I have often thought I could finish that distance every day seven days a week. I probably could have finished the olympic-distance triathlons every day. Maybe. Those were only twice this distance of the sprint triathlon. Certainly three times per week I could have easily covered that distance.
