The spilled bottle of beer. In 1990, I can remember specifically, very specifically, a woman was at my apartment one night in Taylors South Carolina. I have thought about that scene before in recent terms because I have wondered about how that woman was someone I knew prior to 19 July 1989. On that night in 1990 in my apartment in Taylors South Carolina, we were kissing, I am telling you, and one of us knocked over her bottle of beer, as we were both drinking beer from my refrigerator after arriving clandestinely at my apartment, because we did not want anyone to know she was there at my apartment, although neither one of us was married to anybody else. At least, now that I think about it as I write this paragraph, I only know I was not married to anyone else at that time in 1990. So anyway, the bottle of beer spilled on the carpet and under the couch. I told her to ignore it but she insisted on cleaning it up.
What this also reminds me of the ship's library aboard the United States Navy warship USS Wainwright CG 28. I cannot recall if the USS Taylor FFG 50 even had a ship's library. I guess it did but I never looked for it because I had a harder job on that ship. As on both ships I was assigned to in the United States Navy fleet prior to 1990, we were deployed out to sea a lot and I used to go into the USS Wainwright CG 28 ship's library to find paperbacks books to read because even when I was on watch, my only job was to sit for hours at a time in front of large mainframe-style computers that required only for someone to listen for an alarm to sound indicating a computer program fault that for all my experience was always the result of hardware failure. Computer maintenance could not even be performed, or even my personal preference of writing computer code, because at Condition 3 steaming the guided missile fire control computers I was responsible for had to be battle ready twenty four hours a day unless maintenance was scheduled and approved by the Combat Systems department officers or was required because of hardware failure. So I read a lot of books as I sat there in Missile Plot on the night shift. At some point, the notion dawned on me that just about every book I was reading from the ship's library had at least one instance of hardcore homosexual activity. As I thought back over that, I wondered why such material would even be allowed into the ship. Then eventually I wondered if homosexuality was a problem in the United States Navy. I would not have even wondered about that if not for reading those books from the ship's library. So I thought maybe that in itself could be a good reason for someone building a book list that consisted of homosexual activity. The reason was if there was indeed a problem in the fleet with homosexuality. The books I read described homosexuality as far back as World War 2.

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia - The missile cruiser USS Princeton, badly damaged by a mine in the northern Persian Gulf, has been pulled out of action and sent to a gulf port for assessment, U.S. military officials said today.
Discussing the mine blasts that damaged the U.S. warships, he said what was apparently an unusually sophisticated mine damaged the rudder and rudder shaft of the billion-dollar Princeton. The blast injured three crewmen and lifted the vessel party out of the water.
The USS Tripoli, meanwhile, remained on duty after patching a 16-by-20-foot hole in its hull blown by a cruder mine 2 1/2 hours earlier and 10 miles away.
Neal said no minesweepers had cleared the area where the explosions occurred because it was believed to have been relatively free of mines. He said the allies would "continue an aggressive countermine campaign."
The two explosions appeared to jeopardize any plans for an amphibious landing by the Marine task force positioned off the Kuwait coast - at least in the area where the ships were operating.
The Tripoli, an 18,000-ton helicopter assault carrier, is serving as flagship for a newly mounted mine-clearing operation in the area. The 2-year-old Princeton had been on anti-aircraft surveillance duty.
There were varying reports on the extent of damage to the 570-foot Princeton.
Military officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, said there was one report that the hull was damaged in the middle, with cracks in the superstructure above the main deck.
They did not say to which gulf port the Princeton had headed for repairs.
A dozen mine sweepers from the U.S., Saudi and European navies are at work to clear out the thousands of mines the Iraqis are believed to have sown in coastal waters to deter any landing by the 15,000 Marines stationed aboard about 30 ships in the gulf.
The Marines are prepared to strike at Kuwaiti beaches by helicopter and assault boat as part of the anticipated ground offensive.
U.S. officials, however, were worried by the explosions, especially because the Princeton appeared to have been damaged by a so-called "influence mine" - a device the Iraqis were known to possess but had never before used.

In espionage, a honeypot, more often called a honeytrap, is a trap set to capture, kill or compromise a person, commonly but not necessarily an opposition agent, officer, or employee, using sex as the lure.
There are many ways in which the technique can be used to gain advantage. If the target is genuinely attached to the person who seduces him, information can be obtained over a long period — the target may trust his or her seducer enough to reveal secrets, or may even change his allegiance due to emotional attachment. Even if the target does not deliberately give information to his seducer, the seducer may accidentally be given opportunities to obtain it herself. A long-term relationship is not necessarily the goal, however — the technique can also be used to blackmail those who later regret their actions. Incriminating photographs can be an effective tool of coercion, for example. Sometimes, the technique is nothing more than a means of getting the target to lower his guard so that he may be captured or killed, or getting him to go to a location where this is more easily accomplished.
The most common employment of this technique is by women, either female intelligence agents or (if the purpose is simply to obtain material for blackmail) prostitutes. Some intelligence agencies, particularly in the Soviet bloc, are alleged to have agents (called "swallows") specially trained for this purpose. Not all traps are carried out by women, however; sometimes, women are ensnared by male agents, and sometimes same-sex traps are used. (The latter were particularly effective during times, or in countries, where homosexuality was taboo, and the very fact that an agent was homosexual was material suitable for blackmail.) Quite often, alcohol is involved, as any inhibitions the target will be reduced.
