Steve Austin: Jean? I was in the desert today. I didn't want to die. I wanted to make it back.

Oliver Spencer: Well, congratulations, Steve.

Steve Austin: Fooled you.

Oliver Spencer: Did you?

Steve Austin: Uh-huh. I made it back.

Oliver Spencer: Well, I was always hoping you would.

Steve Austin: Bend down here a minute, Spencer, I want to tell you something.

Oliver Spencer: Yes?

Steve Austin: [ whispers ]

Oliver Spencer: Really? Well, I haven't been called that since grammar school.

Dr. Rudy Wells: Steve, we're going to put you back into electro-sleep to get you through the pain. You'll be healing while you sleep, okay?

Steve Austin: You're the doctor.

Oliver Spencer: Dr. Wells? Is it possible to keep him asleep indefinitely?

Dr. Rudy Wells: Now what are you going to do? Keep him under between assignments and wake him up only when you need him? Over my dead body.

Oliver Spencer: It was just an idea. Not a bad one at that, eh?

Bill Clinton hospitalized with chest pains

By Ron Fournier

The Associated Press

NEW YORK — Former President Bill Clinton checked into a Manhattan hospital today with chest pains and will soon undergo bypass surgery, his office announced.

An angiogram given to Clinton, who had been expected to campaign for Sen. John Kerry in his run for the White House, revealed "significant blockage," said a Democratic official. It did not appear that Clinton suffered a heart attack, said the official, who had discussed the condition with the former president's staff and spoke on condition of anonymity.

There was also no official word on when the surgery would take place. A source speaking on condition of anonymity said it was not likely to take place today, but Sen. Hillary Clinton said her husband was advised "to do it as soon as he could."

Clinton heart surgery successful

By The Washington Post and Los Angeles Times

Former President Clinton successfully underwent heart bypass surgery yesterday and began a safe recovery from the four-hour operation, according to his surgeon and other doctors.

Four major blood vessels that supply oxygen to Clinton's heart were found blocked, several by as much as 90 percent, said doctors at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center. Without the surgery, they added, he probably would have had a major heart attack soon.

Surgeons wove four bypasses around Clinton's clogged arteries in an operation they described as routine. The surgery began around 8 a.m., and Clinton started to emerge from sedation by 4 p.m.

Memorable quotes for

Marathon Man (1976)

[addressing his class]

Professor Biesenthal: Well, you four have the dubious honor of having been picked from over two hundred applicants for this seminar. Well, let me just say this. There's a shortage of natural resources. There's a shortage of breathable air, there's even a shortage of adequate claret. But there is no shortage of historians. We grind you out like link sausages. That's called progress. Manufacturing doctorates is called progress. Well, I say, "Let us hush this cry of progress until ten thousand years have passed." That's a quote. Who said that? Come on, who said that?

[none of the students answer, but Babe Levy writes "Tennyson"]

Professor Biesenthal: Tennyson! Alfred, Lord Tennyson. My God, but you can't compete on a doctoral level and not know "Locksley Hall" and "Locksley Hall 60 Years Later"! I hope you all flunk. Dismissed.
