The Luck
I watched at least one of these episodes at some point when they were broadcast new on television but I cannot now recall specific details. I don't think there were any regular television series I followed in the 1980s because of several reasons. At sea, on duty, are two that come to mind first. A young twenty-something kid that would rather get drunk and go out to meet girls in bars is the most likely reason.
Damned if I can figure out now WHAT IN THE DAMNED HELL I COULD HAVE BEEN DOING THAT GOT ME TO GO ON THAT DOOMED FLIGHT 232! I can't find a single detail that supports the notion I was there. And that just seems to be the key to everything that follows.

The Luck
Aired Thursday 8:00 PM Sep 23, 1989 on CBS
Anderson and Goldman are MIA and possibly dead. Bravo Co goes back to the area the next day but can find no sign of them. They are ordered to quit looking. Johnson, Purcell, Taylor and Ruiz try to convince McKay to take them back. He agrees and takes them out the next day. McKay goes to see Alex, who reacts to Myron's loss by immersing herself in her work. Johnny tries to make her face reality, but she states that the men are dead and she refuses to talk about it. Purcell is fed up with the war. Johnson has finally gotten promoted to buck sergeant. The next day McKay's helicopter actually goes right over Anderson and Goldman without him (or the others) seeing the two men. The two Americans have been taken captive by the NVA. They repeatedly try to escape as they are being led north, eventually succeeding. Meanwhile, Alex's Bureau chief convinces her that she should transfer to Paris, the location of the peace talks

00:02:31 This is awful, Carl. What a waste.
00:02:33 You're right, colonel. Damn right, I'm right.
00:02:35 We put enough artillery into this place
00:02:37 to obliterate Pittsburgh,
00:02:38 and what do we got to show for it?
00:02:40 Ferguson. Ferguson!
00:02:43 He's dead, man.
00:02:46 He's dead, Johnson.
00:02:52 Found some web gear, colonel.
00:02:53 Pieces.
00:02:55 This...
00:02:57 and one NVA headgear with a bullet hole.
00:03:00 That's all.
00:03:01 Like you said, colonel, too much time.

00:03:07 A lot of blood trails.
00:03:08 I guess a body count of 20 or so.
00:03:11 Better make it 30.
00:03:12 Thirty? Hell, make it 50.
00:03:14 We know they were here, we know we hit 'em.
00:03:17 COLONEL: What's that?
00:03:18 Ferguson, the RTO. They found...
00:03:21 parts of him.
00:03:22 Any sign of Goldman or Anderson?
00:03:24 No, sir. Nothing.
00:03:26 Order an air recon of the area
00:03:28 and lift this company out of here,
00:03:29 and no duty for Goldman's platoon tomorrow.
00:03:31 They earned it.
00:03:32 Yes, sir, colonel.
00:03:35 Three good men blown to hell for nothing.
00:03:38 Not one dink body.
00:03:41 A damn shame.

PHIL COLLINS
"Another Day In Paradise"
She calls out to the man on the street
"Sir, can you help me?
It's cold and I've nowhere to sleep,
Is there somewhere you can tell me?"
He walks on, doesn't look back
He pretends he can't hear her
Starts to whistle as he crosses the street
Seems embarrassed to be there
Oh think twice, it's another day for
You and me in paradise
Oh think twice, it's just another day for you,
You and me in paradise
She calls out to the man on the street
He can see she's been crying
She's got blisters on the soles of her feet
Can't walk but she's trying
Oh think twice...
Oh lord, is there nothing more anybody can do
Oh lord, there must be something you can say
You can tell from the lines on her face
You can see that she's been there
Probably been moved on from every place
'Cos she didn't fit in there
Oh think twice...

Euphoria Tainted With Guilt

At times successfully choking back tears and at others giving in to their feelings, the attendants addressed reporters and about 200 colleagues who gathered in a ballroom at the O`Hare Hilton Hotel to hear their stories.

THE KILLERS
"Spaceman"
It started with a low light,
Next thing I knew they ripped me from my bed
And then they took my blood type
It left a strange impression in my head.
You know that I was hoping,
That I could leave this star-crossed world behind
But when they cut me open,
I guess I changed my mind.
And you know I might
Have just flown too far from the floor this time
Cause they're calling me by my name
And the zipping white light beams
Disregards the bombs and satellites
That was the turning point
That was one lonely night
The star maker says, "It ain't so bad"
The dream maker's gonna make you mad
The spaceman says, "Everybody look down
It's all in your mind"
Well now I'm back at home, and
I'm looking forward to this life I live
You know its gonna haunt me
So hesitation to this life I give.
You think you might cross over,
You're caught between the devil and the deep blue sea
You better look it over,
Before you make that leap
And you know I'm fine,
But I hear those voices at night sometimes-
They justify my claim,
And the public don't dwell my transmission
Cause it wasn't televised
But, it was the turning point,
Oh what a lonely night
The star maker says, "It ain't so bad"
The dream maker's gonna make you mad
The spaceman says, "Everybody look down
It's all in your mind"
The star maker says, "It ain't so bad"
The dream maker's gonna make you mad;
The spaceman says, "Everybody look down
It's all in your mind"
My global position systems are vocally addressed
They say the Nile used to run from East to West,
They say the Nile used to run...
From East to West.
And you know I'm fine
But I hear those voices at night
Sometimes...
The star maker says, "It ain't so bad"
The dream maker's gonna make you mad
The spaceman says, "Everybody look down
It's all in your mind"
The star maker says, "It ain't so bad"
The dream maker's gonna make you mad;
The spaceman says, "Everybody look down
It's all in your mind"
It's all in my mind
It's all in my mind
It's all in my mind
It's all in my mind
It's all in my mind
