New Director Appointed at Space Telescope
Dr. Mattias (Matt) Mountain has been appointed director of the Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI) in Baltimore, the science operations center for NASA's Hubble Space Telescope and the planned James Webb Space Telescope (JWST). He will succeed Dr. Steven V. W. Beckwith, who will end his term Sept. 1.
Previously, Dr. Mountain was director of the Gemini Observatory and was based in Hilo, Hawaii. The observatory operates the two 8-meter Gemini Telescopes on Mauna Kea, Hawaii and Cerro Pachón in Chile. Dr. Mountain is also the telescope scientist for the James Webb Space Telescope, a member of the JWST Science Working Group, and a visiting professor at the University of Oxford (UK).
In 1992 he became project scientist for the Gemini 8-meter Telescopes Project, based in Tucson, Arizona, and went on to become the director of the project in 1994. During his tenure as director, he had direct responsibility for the construction and commissioning of the two Gemini telescopes in Hawaii and Chile. In 1998 he moved to Hawaii and was responsible for the Gemini Observatory, including formulating, implementing, and running the operations and development programs of both Gemini 8-meter Telescopes. As part of the development program, he built up a world-renowned adaptive optics group to keep the Gemini telescopes at the forefront of observational infrared astronomy.
His background is in physics and astronomy, receiving his bachelor of science degree in physics in 1978 and his doctorate in astronomy in 1983, both from the Imperial College of Science and Technology, London University.
In accepting the position, Dr. Mountain said, "It's an extraordinary privilege to be asked to lead such a fascinating, diverse and challenging organization as the Space Telescope Science Institute. I'm looking forward to working with the superb Institute staff, NASA and the astronomical community; the potential of what we can collectively achieve with HST and the James Webb is tremendously exciting!"
The institute carries out the scientific mission of the Hubble Space Telescope (HST). The Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy, Inc. (AURA) manages STScI for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). The European Space Agency (ESA) participates in the HST Project under a long-term arrangement with NASA.
More than 100 candidates were considered for the position. AURA's Board of Directors made the selection, which was approved by NASA.
William Smith, president of AURA, said, "AURA, NASA and the scientific community have always been extraordinarily fortunate to have had STScI directors of such quality and leadership ability. Matt is inheriting a strong organization poised to take on the responsibility of making the JWST a success."
AURA is a consortium of 32 U.S. institutions and seven international affiliates. It manages the National Optical Astronomy Observatories, the National Solar Observatory, and the international Gemini Telescope Project in Tucson, Ariz., under separate cooperative agreements with the National Science Foundation; and STScI under contract with NASA.

Plot Summary
Five bookkeeper colleagues go out for a night on the town as a bachelor party for Arnold. There is one remaining bachelor among the bunch, Eddie, who is Arnold's best man. The other three married men envy Eddie's carefree life, especially Charlie, who hates his life but can't figure out why. He works hard, goes to night school four days a week, and doesn't spend much time with his pregnant wife, Helen. Charlie doesn't want to admit to himself that he doesn't yet want to be a father. As the purpose of the night hits him, Arnold confides his insecurities to Charlie about love and marriage. A further revelation from Walter, the eldest of the group, makes the men think further about life in general. An encounter with a girl he picks up at a Greenwich Village party and what looks to be desperation on Eddie's part to have a good time makes Charlie realize by the end of the night what he really thinks of his life.

I was surprised to see that today is Friday. I seemed to have lost conscious awareness of the passage of time. I was reading the dates, but I wasnt registering anything.....something I can't explain. I ca remember stuff I was doing, but....something I cant explain.

I'll never forget when I was checking into that crazy house they called the Downtown Emergency Services Shelter, or whatever was the name and that woman took my photo for the i.d. card. She had that same Microsoft-Corbis-zombie look on her face as she asked me if I liked her photo. Creepy.

I know for certain I stopped in here. I can still recall how I had walked there towards my destination elsewhere nearby. Back then I had to look up that that route on a map somewhere. I still had a few dollars left and I can recall I was eating a regular meal only every few days. I can recall still how creepy I thought were those people I saw sitting in there.
Ah, yes. Looking at more images I can clearly recall walking through there on that street. I can recall that I had changed over to walking on the sidewalk on the other side of the street which would most likely have been the side I started on considering my starting point. That's the only time I recall ever traveling through that area of the city. I don't recall having computer access during the days immediately before that so that could be something arranged for me after they let me out of St. Francis in Federal Way.

To Serve Man
That card I have from that homeless shelter is dated 6/11/2005. I can still recall walking upstairs there to check in and the woman took a photo of me and gave me that card. That is the place I have compared before to that "burning Polaroid" scene with "Kyle Reese" in the 1984 "The Terminator."
So I must have gone to the Redmond police on 6/11/2005.
If I remember this correctly the Redmond police in the Seattle suburbs of King County Washington State sent me to Harbor View hospital in Seattle. I can vaguely recall speaking to a nurse there in the emergency room. They sent me to the Bellevue hospital Overlake.
I might have that backwards. The Redmond police might have sent me by ambulance to Overlake and then they sent me to Harbor View and that makes more sense because Harbor View is inside the city of Seattle.
I feel certain I spoke to a Red Cross social worker while I was in the admitting area or the discharge area of Harbor View while in the city of Seattle and that woman is the one who got me into the Downtown Emergency Services Center and that is the entry pass card I still have and that is date stamped 6/11/2005.
From there I can recall stumbling around outside and I sat in a city park, the maps labels it Freeway Park, reading a book and munching on a bag of dry Froot Loops cereal another social worker had given me which I think was the day before I went to the Redmond police department.
So I am thinking now that I was waiting at that DESC building for more than one day because they set up an appointment for me to talk to someone at a Seattle hospital. I couldn't recall the name of that hospital as I started of to write here but I looked at the map and the location I remember walking to and I guess that was the Swedish Medical Center. I can recall going to a specific building and looking at the map I don't recall enough to find it again although I might find it because I can still vaguely visual details about the exterior surroundings.
I can recall walking there. Somehow I must, I guess, have had access to a computer and looked it up on a map. Uncertainty lingers in my whether that was in June 2005 I went to the Swedish Medical Center hospital in First Hill but I want to think that was the timeframe and not later after I was in the Compass Center on Washington Street next to the viaduct.
Yeah, I think that much have been June 2005 I was at the Swedish Medical Center hospital because I can vaguely recall the woman I was talking to had an ambulance come get me and I am thinking they took me to University of Washington Medical Center.

By virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the statutes, and as President of the United States and Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, it is ordered as follows:
1. I hereby designate Charles F. Wennerstrum, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the State of Iowa, as a member of one of the several military tribunals established by the Military Governor for the United States Zone of Occupation within Germany pursuant to the quadripartite agreement of the Control Council for Germany, enacted December 20, 1945, as Control Council Law No. 10, and pursuant to Articles 10 and 11 of the Charter of the International Military Tribunal, which tribunal was established by the Government of the United States of America, the Provisional Government of the French Republic, the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and the Government of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, for the trial and punishment of major war criminals of the European Axis. Such member may, at the direction of the Military Governor of the United States Zone of Occupation, serve on any of the several military tribunals above mentioned, which tribunals are a component part of the military occupational forces of the United States, and upon which the member designated herein shall perform active service during the period of his designation.
2. The member herein designated shall receive such compensation and allowances for expenses as may be determined by the Secretary of War and as may be payable from appropriations or funds available to the War Department for such purposes.
3. The Secretary of State, the Secretary of War, the Attorney General, and the Secretary of the Navy are authorized to provide appropriate assistance to the member herein designated in the performance of his duties and may assign or detail such personnel under their respective jurisdictions, including members of the armed forces, as may be requested for the purpose. Personnel so assigned or detailed shall receive such compensation and allowances for expenses as may be determined by the Secretary of war and as may be payable from appropriations or funds available to the War Department for such purposes, except that personnel assigned or detailed from the Navy Department shall receive such compensation and allowances for expenses to which they may be entitled by reason of their military grade and service and as may be payable from appropriations or funds available to the navy Department for such purposes.
