Bikini's Kent, Part 1

People with miserable, pointless lives are rarely not fatalistic.

That's why all religion is popular. All religion is popular because people have miserable, pointless lives.

So those slackers delude themselves into believing there is some ridiculous afterlife after they die and their decaying corpse rots away in the ground. They can't handle reality.

I'm making this note because it's my thoughts that make me feel fatalistic.

Me, I've got *credible* reasons.

*You* are incapable of independent thought and so any lame-ass used-car salesman masquerading as a bible-thumping preacher of Jesus Christ, or any other religion, can easily get money out of you with their idiotic, childish fairy-tales of a Monkey-God-Jesus-Christ who was invented by cavemen after their (and your) monkey ancestors killed off the Dinosaur's God.

I've been thinking for the recent past days about making this post.

It contains information I usually don't make any note of in my posts, specifically a woman who seems to be a few straws short of being a full-fledged stripper.

And she's stunningly beautiful to me.

I felt incredulous she is in Kent, Washington. Regular readers of my blog understand the personal significance to me of the city of Kent in the Seattle suburbs. I can honestly say I can never remember seeing a woman that beautiful for all those years I lived in Seattle.

So that made me look closer at this topic and to work on a report. A report that means nothing. I just have nothing else to do. I want to go out and ride my bicycle but the stagnant air and its trapped pollution make me think twice and instead sit here at this desk hour after hour next to the air purifier.

But the factor that most stimulated me into making this post is my discovery of her and her Twitter.

Sitting here now, I cannot remember precisely what I was looking at when I noticed her picture, which caused me to look closer.

What I remember is that I had also about the same time watched a scene of that Star Trek: Discovery series and that had happened shortly after I had first noticed her.

I noticed her, and then there is the requisite scene with Captain Pike when he's on that Klingon planet.

For *me* these observations are credibly essential to whatever outcome I will discover for myself and this colossal task I have found myself unable to escape from.

I work on this stuff trying desperately day after day to find the outcome and the end.

People who haven't read many of my blog posts and who haven't watched the episodes I reference probably shouldn't even try to understand any of this. I doubt that most of the people who have read my blog posts and who have watched those episodes will themselves understand any of this.

I think this is more about me attempting some form of transparency. Better to publish online to the world my thoughts than to sit here alone talking to no one, which is true in itself. I literally have no friends. I am about as perfectly isolated as can be for a free-man in the United States of America.

How to Catch a Cold (1951)

Release Info

USA 1 August 1951

Summaries

An average guy gets lessons from his common sense on how to treat a cold (mainly, rest and avoid behaviors that would spread it) and how to keep from getting one in the first place. Of course, since the film is sponsored by Kleenex, it's important to use disposable tissues.

Synchronized (bikinis)?

"How to Catch a Cold"

Just today is the first time I heard on the television news a new Gee-Freaking-Whiz study about illness and cold weather.

Studies (whoop-de-freaking-do) show that sickness is not connected to cold weather and is instead a coincidence.

I am going to describe a dream I had earlier today, because as strange as it seems, I think I am supposed to. I think someone is testing me and they want me to relay to them what they sent to my sleeping mind. I guess they want to see how much detail I remember when I am awake or something like that. It has happened a couple times lately but I have resisted writing about it. Mainly because it agitates me so to be manipulated like this.

I had that dream again about the house I bought in South Carolina back in the early '90s. I loved that place, it was quiet and relaxing. That house is always the central element in dreams I have sometime. There are usually variations to the situation, but the house is always there. And there is usually another element to the dream. In the dream, I discover that I still own the house and I can go back there any time I want, even at the very moment I realize it is still there. It is a great feeling to know I can sleep there that very night if I want to.

In this dream last night though, there is something about my nieces. One of them has bought the house and will live there now. This is one of ten houses that one of ten nieces is getting. Not sure what that means, I only have two nieces. So anyway, I have two cars parked outside. One is that Mazda RX-7, and just like re-discovering the house in the prior dreams, this car is suddenly mine again and I am very happy to see it. I faced a dilemma though about how to get two cars back to my place, whereever that was. There is a lot of food in one car and I am transferring it from one to the RX-7. It was dark. Then I found myself at what seemed to be my own place in the country, the grass was very high. Never seen this place before, but there seems to be something slightly familiar about it. Next image I remember is my Jeep blocking the entrace of my driveway. But the postman has driven around it and is delivering the mail. He has a lot to deliver. At one point, he walks up to the house, or the garage, but I do not talk with him. Before this, I had been walking around the property and there are a lot of other buildings with purposes I don't know but they have a lot of objects, tools and such, cluttered around. I am standing on the porch about to go in and a woman throws open a hatch on the porch and starts climbing up from under the porch. She is carrying a fishing tackle box and something else I don't recognize. She is a scientist or something. She is on some kind of expedition to go out and cause frogs, I think it was, to contract the "mumps." I don't know why she was doing it, but she said they weren't doing it themselves. I woke up at this point and I could hear some loud-mouth in another room on this floor talking loudly next to his window about how he never contracted the mumps when he was a kid even though he had actually tried to contract it by getting into bed with someone that had the mumps.

I'm not sure if this dream happened after I went back to sleep or it had occured earlier, but I was in that unfamilar house there in the country and I was trying to get ready. I was meeting some family members in town for lunch but I kept getting interrupted. At one point, the clock read 1:38 pm but I had to be there at 2pm and I had not even showered or shaved yet. I didn't know how to get in touch with them to let them know I would be late.

The other dream I had was about fighting some kind of aliens. I'm not sure if this dream happened before the one I wrote about above or if it happened later. In this dream, I am still in the Navy, but I am wearing some kind of camoflauge uniform, maybe army or marines. These aliens have invaded a subway and there are a lot of travelers around in danger. I am about to drop from exhaustion after 36 hours of fighting, we have been retreating and I am separated from the other soldiers. I am carrying two heavy packs, trying to find another unit to group up with, with passengers stream through the facility, they are even getting on the trains as some of them are still coming through. I have lost my rifle somewhere. I still have plenty of ammo, but I can't find a rifle. A woman at a coffee kisok says something to me that I don't remember, she has dried blood on her hands as she is preparing coffee. Then I am outside and I have found an armory where I get another rifle. I start heading back to the subway. A woman drives up in a car and asks me if I am who she thinks I am. But I can't remember seeing her actually in the car, all I can remember is seeing her buried in the dirt with only her talking face exposed. That is all I remember.

from my private journal as Kerry Burgess: 11/1/2006 3:14 PM

May 4, 2005, was the day I went to the Kent Police department for help. I named George W. Bush specifically as one of the people harassing me. The policeman didn’t ask me any questions. He dumped me off at the St. Francis hospital in Federal Way where the first thing they did was secretly drug my food. I found it very hard to restrain the urge to laugh shortly after I had eaten. I wanted to leave the hospital and go back to my apartment the next day, the 5th, but they talked me out of it and I stayed there until the next day, the 6th. I didn’t know which bus would take me back to the Kent Police Department and I ended up having to walk a long ways. With a single red folder in hand, I walked all the way from the intersection of I-5 and Kent-Des Moines Road, taking a left on West Meeker Street, to the Kent Police Department where my Jeep was parked.

Chapter 37

At first Stu accepted the sound without question; it was such a typical part of a bright summer morning. He had just passed through the town of South Ryegate, New Hampshire, and now the highway wound through a pretty country of overhanging elms that dappled the road with coins of moving sunlight. The underbrush on either side was thick—bright sumac, blue-gray juniper, lots of bushes he couldn’t name. The profusion of them was still a wonder to his eyes, accustomed as they were to East Texas, where the roadside flora had nothing like this variety. On the left, an ancient rock wall meandered in and out of the brush, and on the right a small brook gurgled cheerily east. Every now and then small animals would move in the underbrush (yesterday he had been transfixed by the sight of a large doe standing on the white line of 302, scenting the morning air), and birds called raucously. And against that background of sound, the barking dog sounded like the most natural thing in the world.

He walked almost another mile before it occurred to him that the dog—closer now, by the sound—might be out of the ordinary after all. He had seen a great many dead dogs since leaving Stovington, but no live ones. Well, he supposed, the flu had killed most but not all of the people. Apparently it had killed most but not all of the dogs, as well. Probably it would be extremely people-shy by now. When it scented him, it would most likely crawl back into the bushes and bark hysterically at him until Stu left its territory.

He adjusted the straps of the Day-Glo pack he was wearing and refolded the handkerchiefs that lay under the straps at each shoulder. He was wearing a pair of Georgia Giants, and three days of walking had rubbed most of the new from them. On his head was a jaunty, wide-brimmed red felt hat, and there was an army carbine slung across his shoulder. He did not expect to run across marauders, but he had a vague idea that it might be a good idea to have a gun. Fresh meat, maybe. Well, he had seen fresh meat yesterday, still on the hoof, and he had been too amazed and pleased to even think about shooting it.

The pack riding easily again, he went on up the road. The dog sounded as if it was just beyond the next bend. Maybe I’ll see him after all, Stu thought.

He had picked up 302 going east because he supposed that sooner or later it would take him to the ocean. He had made a kind of compact with himself: When I get to the ocean, I’ll decide what I’m going to do. Until then, I won’t think about it at all. His walk, now in its fourth day, had been a kind of healing process. He had thought about taking a ten-speed bike or maybe a motorcycle with which he could thread his way through—the occasional crashes that blocked the road, but instead had decided to walk. He had always enjoyed hiking, and his body cried out for exercise. Until his escape from Stovington he had been cooped up for nearly two weeks, and he felt flabby and out of shape. He supposed that sooner or later his slow progress would make him impatient and he would get the bike or motorcycle, but for now he was content to hike east on this road, looking at whatever he wanted to look at, taking five when he wanted to, or in the afternoon, dropping off for a snooze during the hottest part of the day. It was good for him to be doing this. Little by little the lunatic search for a way out was fading into memory, just something that had happened instead of a thing so vivid it brought cold sweat out onto his skin. The memory of that feeling of someone following him had been the hardest to shake. The first two nights on the road he had dreamed again and again of his final encounter with Elder, when Elder had come to carry out his orders. In the dreams Stu was always too slow with the chair. Elder stepped back out of its arc, pulled the trigger of his pistol, and Stu felt a heavy but painless boxing glove weighted with lead shot land on his chest. He dreamed this over and over until he woke unrested in the morning, but so glad to be alive that he hardly realized it. Last night the dream hadn’t come. He doubted if the willies would stop all at once, but he thought he might be walking the poison out of his system little by little. Maybe he would never get rid of all of it, but when most of it was gone he felt sure he would be able to think better about what came next, whether he had reached the ocean by then or not.

These past 10 years has been the price, I guess, for getting to reveal my secret identity. The public in general has no real ability to relate to human beings and the public in general would have never been able to relate to me as a human being. They still do not, apparently. The public in general are greedy, self-centered cowards that care about nothing but their own meaningless lives, which is a contradiction in itself.

So this past 10 years did not change any of that on a large scale but I feel that this was still the only way.

I just wish I could have found a way to do it and still get to live with my wife, Phoebe, during this time. I regret that we have to spend so much time apart. If I had lived a normal life then I would have never been away from her for one single day since she and I have been married.

I have memories of details about this disaster but I am not certain what is the source of those memories. As I was reading about it again just now, I was wondering if this was an air disaster that has been lingering in my mind for a long time but I am not certain if this is the one. Something has been lingering in my mind about a civilian passenger jet that was similar to the DC-10, or that was a DC-10, where the pilot was pulled from the nose section of the aircraft some time after the crash had occurred and no one had thought to look in that section, which had broken off from the rest of the aircraft. I think he was the only survivor in that section.

I wrote earlier about how that track "New Moon On Monday" makes me think it reflects the final flight to Earth's Moon with Apollo 17. Apollo 17 landed on the Moon on 12/11/1972, which was a Monday. But it also made me think of 6/7/1976. That is the day I recognize as when I landed on the Saturn moon Phoebe. I have been thinking that "New Moon On Monday" was Apollo 17 because that was a new trip to the Earth's Moon. But 6/7/1976 was a visit to a different moon, and during that mission, was the first visit I made to any moon. My first stop was at Mars, which is a planet. And then the Jupiter moon Callisto was the next new moon after Phoebe, but that wasn‘t a Monday. Those lyrics and sound effects make me think the song represents several trips and that it includes Apollo 17 and the Jupiter moon Phoebe.

The clues got even more interesting as I continued to examine the details, and I realized that "New Moon On Monday" also pointed to Apollo 8, which was the first time humans had orbited the Earth‘s Moon.

And it is all anchored to Phoebe Cates birthday. She was obviously quite special to me.

DURAN DURAN LYRICS
"New Moon On Monday"

Shake up the picture the lizard mixture
With your dance on the eventide
You got me coming up with answers
All of which I deny
I said it again
Could I please rephrase it
Maybe I can catch a ride
I couldn't really put it much plainer
But I'll wait till you decide
Send me your warning siren
As if I could ever hide
Last time La Luna
[CHORUS]
I light my torch and wave it for the
New moon on Monday
And a firedance through the night
I stayed the cold day with a lonely satellite
Breaking away with the best of both worlds
A smile that you can't disguise
Every minute I keep finding
Clues that you leave behind
Save me from these reminders
As if I'd forget tonight
This time La Luna
[CHORUS]

Couldn't Fly by 'Book,' Pilot of DC-10 Recalls

July 26, 1989 ERIC HARRISON Times Staff Writer

SIOUX CITY, Iowa — When the tail engine exploded on United Airlines Flight 232, Capt. Alfred C. Haynes shut the engine down while second officer Dudley Dvorak got out the procedure book.

No one on the DC-10 knew exactly what had happened, but the flight crew hoped the book would tell them what they should do next.

"It was very shortly after that that we concluded we had more than an engine failure," Haynes said Tuesday in his first talk with reporters since the crash last Wednesday. "It was apparent to us that we had lost all our hydraulic fluids."

'There Isn't One'

"When I asked Dudley what was the procedure for that he said: 'There isn't one,' " Haynes recalled. "So we made one up as we went along."

Using such calm, matter-of-fact language, the Paris, Tex., native explained publicly for the first time what happened during the 41-minute ordeal, during which he guided the crippled plane to a fiery landing in Sioux City. One hundred and eleven people died, but 185 survived the crash.

Investigators have said the flight crew brought the plane in largely by alternating thrusts from the two remaining engines. For some reason, the pilot was unable to make left turns after the engine exploded. Haynes would not answer questions in detail because the National Transportation Safety Board still has not finished its investigation.

The 57-year-old Haynes said he never feared for his life as the plane approached the runway.

Nor was he concerned that the plane might not make it to Sioux City after it became apparent that they could not reach Chicago, their scheduled destination.

"I honestly didn't think about it," he said. "We were going to try to go on there and land, and that's what we tried to do."

If the crew had believed that they weren't going to make it, he said, "we couldn't have operated."

The pilot's face and head still bore small bruises and scabs from the crash. He had a tiny bandage on the bridge of his nose.

Haynes said he lost consciousness in the crash. When he came to his senses, he was pinned in the cockpit, unable to move.

"I said to myself, don't hyperventilate, and wait for somebody to come," he recounted.

Asked what happened next, he said: "Somebody came."

Haynes and second officer Dvorak, 51, both in wheelchairs, met with reporters upon their release from the Marian Health Center here, shortly before they and their families boarded a Lear jet for a non-stop flight to Seattle, where they both live.

The former Marine pilot is being hailed as a hero for his professionalism, which helped so many to survive.

He smiled when a reporter mentioned this.

"There is no hero," he said. "There's just a group of four people who did their jobs. It was an unusual circumstance, but we put our knowledge together and did what we thought best."

The three-man flight crew was assisted during the ordeal by Dennis Fitch, 47, an off-duty United pilot who happened to be on the flight. He knelt on the cockpit floor between the other pilots and operated the engine throttles.

"Fitch was a member of our crew," Haynes said. "We became a four-man crew instead of a three-man crew."

The other member of the flight crew was first officer William R. Records, 49, who Haynes said was at the controls when the explosion occured. Records and Fitch both remain in the hospital.

"Everyone either helped in running the airplane or flying the airplane or doing the many, many radio reports that were required," Haynes said. "Everybody kicked in . . .. Everybody agreed as a group to agree among ourselves before anything was done. And that was, I think, an important part of our survival."

Haynes had kind words for the air traffic controllers who guided the flight crew in for the landing and for the ground rescue personnel and residents of Sioux City who offered help.

"Thank you for your compassion, for your caring and for your loving concern," he said.

"This is a happy day for many of us," Haynes said at the start of the press conference. "We must not forget that 111 people perished in the crash.

"This crew and in fact the entire industry are dedicated to finding out the cause of this accident so that it may never happen again."

Haynes said that before last week he had never had major engine trouble during a flight. He had had what he termed "minor" problems with the engine and hydraulic systems, but they always were corrected before the plane left the airport, he said.

Asked if he had developed a fear of flying because of the crash, the pilot chuckled. "I'm flying home today," he said. "And I can't wait to get back to work."

I have thought several times about a dream I had before waking up earlier today in the morning. I think about it again now, especially considering how my dreams are relevant to observations I made later in the day after having the dream, after watching on television the scene I reference now. The scene only lasted for probably a second or two of dreaming but I have thought of it several times today because of the good feeling I had during the dream. I cannot recall how it started out but the part I remember is that I seemed to be entering an office building and I got a pass to clip to my uniform shirt and I had full access to the building. What I did though is sit in a chair in the lobby, which I can only partially visualize and I could have gone on in but I was just sitting there watching people enter and leave and I think that is what I wanted to do. I looked at my watch. I cannot recall the precise time I saw in the dream but my watch might have read 12:38 PM. I sat there for a while and if I would have wrote about this dream back in early 2006 I would have wrote about how the narrator was talking to me in the dream but in the dream, no one spoke to me during that series of scenes. There almost seemed to be comments about why I was sitting there when I could go in to the office area and I had full access to that building. I was wearing a United States military uniform in the dream and after waking up I decided I was wearing a dress white United States Marine Corps officers uniform that is no longer in service. The uniform was very similar to the United States Navy officers ceremonial dress uniform but what I read earlier today is that uniform was phased in 1998, or maybe 2000. So anyway I was clearly wearing a United States military uniform and I got up from the chair in the lobby and I started walking through the office section and I was very glad to be there. I have been left with the sense all day about how I was back home. I have also been thinking that was some kind of office that I worked out of and that is here in the United States and I had been gone for a while and I was glad to be back and I was walking around and no one had realized yet that I was back. That was how the dream ended. I was walking around through the office and I noted that someone I knew didn't work in the same place. I was going somewhere specific but that was where the dream ended and I woke up and I think that was when I got up out of bed.

But anyway, as I read back through the scene I remember that before that scene was something about me being trapped in someplace that seemed to be a deep well. I was aware that I was perched on a surface and there was very dark water just below me in reach and I was worried about what was under that surface. But I was definitely trapped in a well, a long vertical cylinder of a wall made of stones and there seemed to be just enough lighting to see my surroundings. At one point I caught a frog. I was keeping it because I might have had to use it for food. But I didn't have to because I was only trapped down there for eight days without food and water and I didn't want to eat the frog, which was the only source of possible food that presented itself to me during that time I was trapped in the well. So then the part in the office building seemed to happen.
