Joseph Adama is a Tauron refugee who has successfully established himself on Caprica and is a lawyer for the Tauron gangster community that paid for his legal training. Unbeknown to Graystone, his daughter Zoe has become a member of an organization that has monotheistic religious beliefs but is regarded as a terrorist organization by some, including the government. When Zoe and a friend are killed in an explosion set off by Zoe's boyfriend Dan, Adama's wife and daughter are also killed. All because she's struggling to lead the world in mourning for someone who... who threw everything she offered back in her face. I'm feeling more comfortable, confident even, that this stuff I am remembering is true. There is still something I am missing though. I suspect that it is something I have to figure out, to remember, to recognize, on my own. It is something I will know when I see. For a while, sometime ago, I was thinking to myself something about how this wasn't over til "the bat lady sings," but I don't know what that means precisely, other than a variation of the well-known phrase. I feel the answer is somewhere in my memory, if I could just grasp it. I felt like I almost remembered something last night, something I wrote more about in my notes, but not sure if I will put it in here. I can't remember that thought now, but it was some kind of family choice, and that half-remembered choice was reflected in something later, but I can't remember.

William Adama

William "Bill" Adama (callsign "Husker") is a fictional character portrayed by Edward James Olmos in the re-imagined Battlestar Galactica television series. The character is a reimagining of Commander Adama from the 1978 Battlestar Galactica series played by Lorne Greene. The early life of Adama is also featured in the Caprica spinoff series. He is one of the primary characters in the series.

Early life

William Adama was born William Adams on Caprica, the son of Joseph Adama, a civil liberties lawyer (though previously a lawyer for the Ha'la'tha, the Tauron Mob) and Shannon Adams. (Joseph changed his family name to "Adams" early in life but changed it back to "Adama" after Shannon's death.) He was named for his paternal grandfather who was killed in the Tauron Civil War. His mother Shannon and sister Tamara were killed in a terrorist bombing of a Caprica City subway when he was eleven and attending Wilson Elementary School. In the months following the loss of his mother and sister young 'Willy' Adama begins gaining significant influence and life lessons from his uncle Sam Adama, a known Ha'la'tha member who was also active in the Tauron military for 14 years.

First Cylon War

During the later stages of the first Cylon War, Adama was a gifted Viper pilot in the Colonial Fleet. On account of his gravelly voice, his aviator call sign was "Husker". He became involved with a Raptor pilot named Jaycie McGavin., when he was assigned to the Galactica. Arriving on the hangar deck for his first mission, he found McGavin had been gravely injured in combat when her Raptor's control console exploded in her face. It was during this mission that he scored his first kills and for which he received a commendation. Adama was aboard the Battlestar Galactica during the last week of the war when a Cylon boarding party attempted to kill the crew by depressurizing the ship. Adama later recalled that "two thousand men bought the farm."

During a battle that took place on the last day of the First Cylon War, Adama became enraged by the destruction of the Battlestar Columbia and pursued two Cylon raiders into a planetary atmosphere. His Viper was damaged in a collision and he was forced to eject. Upon landing, he discovered what appeared to be a Cylon lab that was experimenting on human subjects. Unable to rescue the humans still held captive in the lab, Adama watched helplessly as the Cylons evacuated the base. When he called Galactica for rescue, Adama found out that the war had ended with the signing of an armistice. With the end of hostilities, the Cylons carried away whatever they were developing unopposed.

John Adams

John Adams (October 30, 1735 – July 4, 1826) was an American politician and the second President of the United States (1797–1801), after being the first Vice President (1789–1797) for two terms. He is regarded as one of the most influential Founding Fathers of the United States.

Adams came to prominence in the early stages of the American Revolution. As a delegate from Massachusetts to the Continental Congress, he played a leading role in persuading Congress to adopt the United States Declaration of Independence in 1776. As a representative of Congress in Europe, he was a major negotiator of the eventual peace treaty with Great Britain, and chiefly responsible for obtaining important loans from Amsterdam.

Adams' revolutionary credentials secured him two terms as George Washington's vice president and his own election as the second president of the United States. During his one term as president, he was frustrated by battles inside his own Federalist party (by a faction led by Alexander Hamilton) and the newly emergent bi-partisan disagreements with Jeffersonian Republicans. During his term he also signed the controversial Alien and Sedition Acts. The major accomplishment of his presidency was his peaceful resolution of the Quasi-War crisis with France in 1798.

After Adams was defeated for reelection by Thomas Jefferson (at the time, Adams' vice-president), he retired to Massachusetts. He and his wife Abigail Adams founded an accomplished family line of politicians, diplomats, and historians now referred to as the Adams political family. Adams was the father of John Quincy Adams, the sixth President of the United States.

General of the Armies

General of the Armies and General of the Armies of the United States are the highest possible ranks in the United States Army.

After World War II, which saw the introduction of U.S. "5-star" officers who outranked Washington, both Congress and the President revisited the issue of Washington's rank. To maintain George Washington's proper position as the first Commanding General of the United States Army, he was appointed, posthumously, to the grade of General of the Armies of the United States by congressional joint resolution Public Law 94-479 January 19, 1976, approved by President Gerald R. Ford on October 11, 1976. The law established the grade as having "rank and precedence over all other grades of the Army, past or present,"clearly making it superior to General of the Army. The Department of the Army Order 31-3, issued on March 13, 1978 had an effective appointment date of July 4, 1976. The rank ensures that no United States military officer outranks George Washington
