There was a few other things that I can't remember but that I know were there. One I do remember is of a scene where my mother is saying something to me, or maybe she is asking me something. There is something "quiet" about it, as in it was a quiet question, she spoke quietly. Or maybe she was trying to give me a clue about somebody that is involved in whatever is going on here, but she wanted me to keep it quiet. I just don't know.

I have been thinking that the first jet I flew by myself was the T-33. That notion became stronger after I watched the 1986 "Iron Eagle" and there was an early scene where a T-33 had landed and the pilot waved to "Doug Masters" and I ponder over how that was a curious scene.

I cannot remember very well the dreams I was having before I work up within the past hour. I cannot remember what time I went to sleep earlier this morning but I think I was asleep for more than 8 hours and I did not wake up very often, if any, during that period.
What I do remember is that just before I woke up, and I think this was the second-to-last dream I had before waking up, I was dreaming of Phoebe and that visualization of her is the most clear of all those dreams. That reminds me that I was thinking of Phoebe just before I fell asleep and the thoughts are similar but the difference is that before I fell asleep, I was thinking of her in context of her appearance today while in the dream, I seemed to be dreaming memories of her from the past. I have been thinking the dream was memories of her and I on the set of "Fast Times At Ridgemont High" and specifically of a time between the filming of her scenes.
What seems to be the last dream I had just before waking up...has faded more now after I wrote that last part. It was something about Michelle Howard but I cannot now remember what was the point I wanted to make, other than what I have written before. I have been thinking again that Michelle Howard was on a U.S. Navy destroyed that extracted me from the Med after I had been shot down by anti-aircraft fire, I guess on 8/19/1981. I have also been thinking this morning that the recent scene in "Battlestar Galactica" where "Starbuck" asks that guy she hugs after "Apollo" why he was wearing a flight suit. I have been thinking that is relevant to Michelle Howard seeing me as the pilot that was extracted from the ocean on 8/19/1981 and she was confused why I was even there. That could be the reason I noted those photos on navy.mil about the Midshipsman in flight training.

A lot of people who know me in my true identity would have asked the same question if they saw me in a flight suit at any time. So I don't think that scene was specifically about Michelle Howard's reaction to seeing me extracted from the ocean in 1981. I think it is more, if relevant to me in the first place, is more of a general representation of that notion I have been writing about of how even the people who know me very well, such as my wife, her family, and my family, do not know much about my secret military identity, which is by design.

I have seen photos of Midshipmen in U.S. Navy jet aircraft but that particular set I am trying to find is different from all the other because that midshipman was the pilot of the jet aircraft and I have not seen any other navy.mil or dodmedia photos of a Midshipman as the pilot.

One of the reasons I graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy with the Class of 1982 was to covert my U.S. Navy officer's commission from Reserve commission to Regular commission.
I was also serving in some kind dual status that was tied to my Class of 1982 commissioning and my prior commission. My prior commission gave me the seniority to command a Nimitz-class carrier in 1982, for example, while my Class of 1982 commission helped protect my secret identity.

I am beginning to wonder if that photo actually had the word 'midshipman' in it or if it had something else that made me think of 'midshipman.' Maybe it was just something that jogged my memory of flying while I was a Midshipman and I read the word 'midshipman' in place of something else that indicated the pilot was a student at Annapolis.

I also feel that the jet was an F/A-18 Hornet but I am not certain why I think that. It could have been the Gosford but I don't think it was. I can still visualize the one photo that seemed to be taken from the pilots seat, or just behind it suggesting it was from the rear seat, of the jet at the end of the runway as it was about to take off.

I was thinking this morning or last night about all that commotion in the Ironman community a few years ago about people racing under other people's name. That would seem to tie in with my theory about Tom Warren and Tom Watson. They are probably real people, but I think they know I was there. Not exactly clear on this, but it means something. I suspect that people were all talking about something along these lines and that produced the buzz about the "phantom" competitors.
This morning, after I left the VA, I started thinking about this memory I have of Florida in 1984 and its possible symbolism to reality. It was shortly after I got out of boot camp. I rented a Mustang convertible and took a trip to Daytona Beach. I made two separate trips over one weekend. I remember sitting in the car on base in front of the base club and talking briefly to a guy I went to Ashdown High School with but didn't know very well. The first trip was with Chris Root from boot camp and we went somewhere on the east coast, I guess Daytona, and then traveled across state to I think Tampa. The second day, I don't remember sleeping much, I drove back to Orlando and dropped off Chris and one or more other people that went with us, I can't remember who else was there. Early that morning, I think it was Sunday, I was sitting in that base club parking lot again and I ran into a couple other guys I went to boot camp. We drove out to Daytona for the day.
The important part of all this seems to be early that next morning when we were driving back. The other guys were asleep and I dozed off while driving down the interstate. I either woke up on my own or the guy in the passenger seat woke me up just in time to keep us from hitting a pylon of an interstate overpass. He asked me if I was all right. I don't think the other guy even woke up. After I remembered that memory, I had the sense that the Mustang represented an aircraft. These people, in this memory and other memories, in the passenger seat represent a crewperson as opposed to a co-pilot. The Mustang, as opposed to a pickup with its cargo bed which could represent wing pylons for bombs, represents, possibly, a fighter or attack jet on a mission where speed and agility are the most important characteristics. The lack of a cargo bed would suggest that it carried no weapons and was possibly on some kind of reconnoisance mission, to take photos of some
object, for example. The reason it was a convertible Mustang, I suspect, may be that it represents some memory that tugs and nags my mind about having the canopy blown off my aircraft at some time. The top was down. The part of this memory of him asking me if I was all right represents, I suspect, us trying to recover physically from the concussion of the explosion that tore off the canopy. Incidents and experiences such as those are probably more stressful to relive than to actually experience, especially in my mental state of knowing but not remembering. The passenger, in this memory in the car, had no control over the car and needed to get me alert to regain control of the car. The pylon of the overpass we almost hit represents that we almost crashed to the ground. I don't know what the third guy represents, ground control perhaps? We could have been in an aircraft with room for three people, but that doesn't feel right. I don't remember anything
after that.

At the time, Don Estridge and his team considered using the IBM 801 processor and its operating system that had been developed at the Thomas J. PONTIAC, Mich. - A judge said Tuesday that Dr. Jack Kevorkian was more interested in getting publicity than in helping the terminally ill, and she again banned him from using his drug-injecting "suicide machine."
Oakland County Circuit Judge Alice Gilbert made permanent her earlier order that Kevorkian refrain from assisting anyone with suicide.
In a scathing opinion, Gilbert said Kevorkian showed a pattern of seeking recognition through "bizarre behavior" and showed "unabashed disregard and disrespect for his profession."
"His real goal is self-service, rather than patient service," she said.
"The reasons why Dr. Kevorkian has been unable to find employment in any accredited hospital are made patently clear to the court."
Kevorkian, 62, a retired pathologist from Royal Oak, Mich., who last worked at a hospital in 1982, was charged in December with first-degree murder in Adkins' death.
Clarkston District Judge Gerald McNally dismissed the charge, saying Michigan has no law against assisted suicide.
Tuesday's ruling was on a civil lawsuit brought by prosecutors to prevent Kevorkian from using the machine again or building another one.
County prosecutors, who have tried unsuccessfully to bring murder charges against Kevorkian, were pleased with Gilbert's decision.
"We're not talking about morality, we're talking about accepted medical practice," said assistant Oakland County prosecutor Michael Modelski.
"We're also talking about a retired pathologist who has no experience with live patients all of a sudden deciding to kill people without giving them any real competency exam, without really testing them for their diagnosis, without having any psychiatric experience."

Thanks for the info Rudy. Yeah, it was one hell of a ride on the Wainwright after that. We had stopped in Bahrain earlier, but we didn't touch ground again until a liberty port on our way back to Charleston. We stopped at Palma Mallorca and it was quite the extreme, going from Bahrain to the topless beaches of Palma. I was certainly also glad to see Charleston again.
I saw your name on the credits for that Clooney vampire flick from a few years ago. Sounds like you've done pretty well for yourself. Going from a photographer to, I assume from your email address, to working for Paramount Studios. That's a pretty good recruiting story for the Navy.

Operation Praying Mantis
Operation Praying Mantis was an April 18, 1988 attack by U.S. naval forces in retaliation for the Iranian mining of the Persian Gulf and the subsequent damage to an American warship.
On April 14, the guided missile frigate USS Samuel B. Roberts struck a mine while deployed in the Persian Gulf as part of Operation Earnest Will, the 1987-88 convoy missions in which U.S. warships escorted reflagged Kuwaiti oil tankers to protect them from Iranian attacks. The explosion put a 25-foot hole in the Roberts' hull and nearly sank it. The crew saved their ship with no loss of life, and Roberts was towed to Dubai on April 16.
After the mining, U.S. Navy divers recovered other mines in the area. When the serial numbers were found to match those of mines seized along with the Iran Ajr the previous September, U.S. military officials planned a retaliatory operation against Iranian targets in the Persian Gulf.
The battle, the largest for American naval forces since World War II, sank two Iranian warships and three armed speedboats. It also marked the first anti-ship surface-to-surface missile engagement in U.S. Navy history.
The attack by the U.S. helped pressure Iran to agree to a ceasefire with Iraq later that summer, ending the eight-year conflict between the Persian Gulf neighbors.

I had a very clear dream about being out to sea but the progress of the events seem to be somewhat out of sequence. I have been thinking about it after waking up and I feel it is important to note that certain events happened out of sequence in the dream and I cannot now remember the sequence as I dreamed, although the sequence of events that are out of order might only span a matter of hours. One reason that seemed important after I woke up is that I was thinking I had been flying an F-14 Tomcat during that event, because that notion was strong in my mind during one dream sequence of events, but then I seemed to be dreaming that I had actually been in an A-6 Intruder.

So anyway, I feel certain the dream sequence started off with me floating in the ocean and I had been in the water for at least two days and there was some concern in my mind about sharks.

Then I noticed a ship was approaching and I was waving my arms to get their attention but I think they had already spotted me and they were approaching me to extract me from the water and they were coming so close I thought they were going to run over me.
There is also something wrong with the proportions in that dream as well, in that the ship seemed a lot smaller than it should be, or something like that. I feel certain it was a Ticonderoga-class cruiser so that would mean, if that really was the class of U.S. Navy ship, that the dream occurred during the 1980's or later. I had no other sense of time and date to the dream.

I remember something about identifying the bow structure of the ship and that was how I knew it was a Ticonderoga but after waking up, I have been wondering why I cannot remember other identifying details about the Ticonderoga-class, such as that large, distinctive forward superstructure or whether it had a rail-launcher or the absence of the rail-launcher, indicating it was one of the later VLS versions.

After the ship pulled past me as I floated in the ocean, I saw a Seahawk helo lift off from the deck, seemingly from the bow, which is odd, and then it was approaching me and I was anticipating it is winch me up as it hovered over me. Another odd detail is that it actually seemed to land, although I cannot visualize it landing, impossibly, on the ocean surface, but I recall that detail because I noted that the tail rotors almost hit me.

Then I was in the ship and I seemed to be in CIC, judging by all the equipment and I was sitting in chair and I was still wearing wet clothes. I can visualize one person that was talking to me more than anyone else but I cannot visualize enough detail about him to describe.
It seems it was then in the dream that I started to dream, or to think, about the events that led to me being in the ocean. I still feel a certain amount of confusion as to whether I dreamed it all in sequence as it occurred, in that this all is probably a true experience I was dreaming about, or whether I dreamed it in the sequence as I am not writing.

As some point in the dream, and that seems to be associated to other events in this dream sequence, I was flying in the B/N seat of an A-6 Intruder and something happened, that I never did seem to know about in the dream, and I was going to have to eject, along with the pilot. At some point since waking up, I am aware that the pilot did not survive and I recall that I never did see him again in the dream. So I don't know what happened and why we had to eject but certain details seem unrealistic, even though I can still visualize sitting there in that B/N seat. One detail is that I was not wearing any kind of harness or belt and after what ever event it was that made us eject, I pulled across an automobile seatbelt and I can still visualize clipping it in.

I think that was just before I noted that I seemed to be sitting in some kind of high-back desk chair and that I pulled the lever that caused the seat back to un-recline, or whatever is the proper word, and the seat back was actually causing me to lean forward.
Then when I, or we, as I can only recally myself ejecting, and similar to scenes in "Top Gun" and "Flight of the Intruder," but with different results, I was blasted through the plexiglass canopy and it shattered as I was blasted through it. I did not seem to suffer any injuries from going through the canopy and I ponder every time over that scene in "Flight of the Intruder.
I think that was the extent of my dream. I think then the dream picks up with me floating in the ocean for at least 2 days and a USN ship rescuing me.

On January 9, 1989, I will be forwarding to the Congress the compensation recommendations of the Commission on Executive, Legislative, and Judicial Salaries. This bipartisan Commission composed of individuals of superior achievement in the public and private sectors carefully reviewed the compensation of senior Federal officials and unanimously recommended increased levels of compensation.
Fair compensation for those who bear the responsibility for effective functioning of our government is critical at this juncture of history. The American people expect excellence at the top levels of government, and they deserve to get it. But our Founding Fathers also envisioned a citizen government whose members are drawn from all parts of our society.
We must not allow Federal service to become the province only of the wealthy. We must ensure that the door to service remains open to Americans who must work to support their families, educate their children, and save for their retirement. As it now stands, government service for any significant length of time presents a financial burden that fewer and fewer of those who are most highly qualified can afford to accept.

Microsoft, IBM agree to end operating system feud

NEW YORK -- Two of the giants of the computer world, software house Microsoft Corp. and International Business Machines Corp., said Sunday they have agreed to end a long-running feud over their competing software operating systems.
The two companies said they reached agreements on royalties and licenses related to IBM's OS/2 and Microsoft's Windows operating systems, which will basically allow the two companies to go their separate ways.
"Basically we're agreeing on how to unravel ourselves from the (September 1990) contract," Steve Ballmer, executive vice president of worldwide sales for Microsoft, told Reuters.
The 1990 contract governed plans by IBM and Microsoft to jointly build an operating system that goes beyond the MS/DOS system, which was introduced in 1981 for the IBM personal computer.
A computer's operating system provides the basic rules for how a computer functions. Microsoft, whose software controlled the first IBM PCs in the early 1980s, has become the dominant force in such software.
In the agreement, IBM and Microsoft said they will agree to license each other for operating system patents currently held by the other. Microsoft will also make an undisclosed cash payment to Armonk, N.Y.-based IBM.
David Wu, an analyst with SG Warburg, said the breakup will not hurt IBM or Microsoft.
"Looking down the road, a formal divorce after September 1993 would not be harmful to either party," he said.

NASA Assigns Crew for STS-134 Shuttle Mission, Change to STS-132
WASHINGTON -- NASA has assigned the crew for space shuttle mission STS-134 to the International Space Station. The flight will deliver the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer, or AMS, to the station. The AMS is a state-of-the-art cosmic ray particle physics detector designed to examine fundamental issues about matter and the origin and structure of the universe.
Navy Capt. Mark Kelly will command the STS-134 mission. Retired Air Force Col. Gregory H. Johnson will serve as the pilot. Mission Specialists are Air Force Col. Michael Fincke, Greg Chamitoff and Andrew Feustel. European Space Agency astronaut and Italian Air Force Col. Roberto Vittori also will serve as a mission specialist.
The flight will include three spacewalks and the installation of the AMS to the exterior of the space station using both the shuttle and station arms. The AMS will be attached to the right side of the station's truss, or backbone.

Mayor Nickels announces new evidence that wood lice have caused significant damage to Alaskan Way Seawall
Seattle - Mayor Greg Nickels announced today that recent inspections done on the Alaskan Way Seawall have revealed significant damage to the supporting structure by wood lice.
The mayor invited news photographers to see damaged revealed by a test pit dug on Tuesday. Engineers found destruction to structural timbers from Gribbles, underwater crustaceans with 7pairs of legs and 4 pairs of mouthparts, has caused extensive damage to ships, docks, and in this instance, the relieving platform against the seawall and underneath Alaskan Way. The damage found in several places means that the seawall’s vulnerability to an earthquake, already a concern, is even greater than people realized.

The gribble is small, it is common, and it is ugly.
Roughly the size of a flea, it possesses 14 legs and four pairs of moving mouth parts. It is often a brownish shade of gray and will roll up into a ball when threatened. Give the gribble a chance and it — along with tens of thousands of brothers and sisters — will munch on docks and wooden ships and piling until they are so weakened they crumble into the sea.

LUFKIN - Finding the piece of debris that might give clues to why the space shuttle Columbia broke apart on re-entry has been described by one NASA official as like "looking for a needle in a haystack."
Monday, the haystack got bigger.
While lawmen and volunteers in several East Texas counties were beating the piney woods and lake shores for more remnants of Columbia, the size of the "debris field" was enlarged to take in a portion of West Texas and a longer stretch of Louisiana.
Authorities did report a major find Monday. A man found the shuttle's nose cone buried about six feet in the ground on his land just outside the town of Hemphill. The cone was said to be in good shape and searchers planned to excavate it today.
Most of the significant debris and body parts apparently have been found between Nacogdoches and the Sabine River, but some fragments may be found as far east as the New Orleans suburbs and west of the point over Dallas-Fort Worth where the shuttle began to disintegrate.

Microsoft's 'Hailstorm' key part of Net strategy
REDMOND - Microsoft said it will give details Monday about new tools it has developed to make it easier to do business, communicate and receive important information via the Internet.
The products will let software developers at other companies write Web-service programs that take advantage of Microsoft features such as instant messaging, Internet-based identity certification, credit-card security and urgent message alerts, Chief Executive Steve Ballmer said.
Microsoft's new tools, collectively known as "Hailstorm," are a key part of the company's strategy called .Net.
The strategy aims to keep Microsoft competitive as the Internet becomes more central to computing, and as sales of personal-computer-based programs slow.

Microsoft plan is to unleash a HailStorm

Microsoft yesterday explained how it will make money off .NET, its bet-the-company strategy to reshape the Internet, by firmly making itself chief gatekeeper.
The audacious vision left some software developers agape and prompted a rival to suggest Microsoft continues to wield monopolistic power, but Microsoft executives said they're only trying to give people more power over their computers and fulfill the Internet's promise of easily managed information.
"It really is about the dream and vision people have had all along about how computers ought to operate," said Chairman Bill Gates at a briefing for about 100 journalists and analysts in Redmond.
Under the vision, users would store personal and other information on the Internet in a way that could be shared and transferred automatically among computers, phones and other devices.
Plans call for the system to launch in 2002 as a free service, but customers may pay a monthly subscription fee for premium services, such as file storage, elaborate messaging systems and automatic calendar management. It would be similar to how broadcast TV is free, but cable has tiered fees for different levels of service.

§ 2331. Definitions
As used in this chapter—
(1) the term “international terrorism” means activities that—
(A) involve violent acts or acts dangerous to human life that are a violation of the criminal laws of the United States or of any State, or that would be a criminal violation if committed within the jurisdiction of the United States or of any State;
(B) appear to be intended—
(i) to intimidate or coerce a civilian population;
(ii) to influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion; or
(iii) to affect the conduct of a government by mass destruction, assassination, or kidnapping; and
(C) occur primarily outside the territorial jurisdiction of the United States, or transcend national boundaries in terms of the means by which they are accomplished, the persons they appear intended to intimidate or coerce, or the locale in which their perpetrators operate or seek asylum;
(2) the term “national of the United States” has the meaning given such term in section 101(a)(22) of the Immigration and Nationality Act;
(3) the term “person” means any individual or entity capable of holding a legal or beneficial interest in property;
(4) the term “act of war” means any act occurring in the course of—
(A) declared war;
(B) armed conflict, whether or not war has been declared, between two or more nations; or
(C) armed conflict between military forces of any origin; and
(5) the term “domestic terrorism” means activities that—
(A) involve acts dangerous to human life that are a violation of the criminal laws of the United States or of any State;
(B) appear to be intended—
(i) to intimidate or coerce a civilian population;
(ii) to influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion; or
(iii) to affect the conduct of a government by mass destruction, assassination, or kidnapping; and
(C) occur primarily within the territorial jurisdiction of the United States.
