I have been trying to think of memories that may represent a long trek through the desert that resulted in brain damage. The first “memory” that came to mind was on the Taylor in, I guess, 1985. I was assigned to the Bosun locker, which was at the very front end of the ship, under the top side deck. We were down in the Caribbean and it got very hot in there, along with the constant rolling of the deck, which was more pronounced there at the front of the ship. I remember feeling dizzy, but I also feel as though it was worse than that, but I can’t remember. I remember BM1 telling me to not spend as much time working in there when it gets that hot and to go sit for a while on the mess decks which I think were air conditioned.
Those pictures of me playing the guitar. I was wearing a t-shirt under a plaid flannel shirt that had the words “Ass Kicking Southern Rock” on it. That has got to mean I was good a playing the guitar in reality. I also remember minor occurrences of playing the piano. These must be “Tapestry” style memories. I remember one time when I bought a piano keyboard that connected to my computer and I was going to teach myself to play the piano. That was when I was living in the apartment off Dresden Avenue in Charlotte, which was just off Independence Boulevard. As with a “Tapestry” style memory, I never did follow through and learn how to play.
I suddenly remember Tom Hank’s portrayal in the movie “Big.”

I remember my step-brother, Michael, used the nickname “Bird Dog” as his CB-radio identified. I remember a few years after he died, Stan Keller, the Harpoon Fire Controlman on Wainwright, started calling me by that nickname, along with others that people used for me. I started wondering if the pilot of that A-6 that I “remember” being shot down in was nicknamed “Goose.” My theory this morning is that when I was in the Persian Gulf in 1988, I was part of a SEAL platoon. We routinely flew by helicopter to the U.S. Navy ships on patrol in the Gulf and I would bring the ships mail along with me. I have this “memory” of a helicopter bringing the mail to us on the Wainwright and they were called “Goose.” It was something else though, there was another word in that name but I can’t remember what it was, something like “Flying Goose” but I don’t think that was it. I also remember Rich Molck, while working in CIC, talking about the Iraqis bombers that were flying over us and he said that, when challenged, they would respond that they were bringing our mail.
What was it that Bush was talking about on television that day that made me think he was rattled? I was in that hotel room in Spokane Valley back in 2004, after quitting Microsoft and I commented out loud that he looked “rattled.” I got the impression his handlers were not going televise him again for a while. That incident alone was OVER 2 GODDAMN YEARS AGO!! I HAVE HAD TO ENDURE THIS BULLSHIT FOR 9 GODDAMN YEARS!!!!!!!!

I just realized it must have been March 3rd when I moved into that Crosslands hotel out in Spokane Valley back in 2004 after quitting Microsoft. I remember it snowed heavily that day which corresponds to this weather archive. I would have said that I moved in there on the second at the latest, but I guess it could have been the third. I remember one of the receptionists made a comment about how it had started snowing as soon as I came in and I wondered about that comment. I was going crazy in that place after a while, but in retrospect, I would much rather be back there than here, without a doubt. Damn I miss having a car, to just be able to get out and drive around at night. The bastards were following me everywhere but at least I could have something to do in trying to shake them off. I hate it here and having to be around these people beyond tolerance.
