The concept came up in Simpsons and Futurama too. First, with the Comic Book Guy after Bart and Lisa developed super powers, and in Futurama, that guy was something like the Zookeeper or something. Not the same, but for some reason, it seems relevant.

This just dawned on me last night: UFP. There was that company I worked for named Universal Financial Products, which means their initials are U.F.P. Those are also the initials for: United Federation of Planets. That's pretty funny.

The newest theory that has formed in my mind the past few minutes is even more incredible. It wasn’t a 17 month trip to Mars, rather it took me 17 months to travel to Saturn, loop around Jupiter on the trip there or back or both, land on Mars, and then return to Earth. I had some kind of super fast spacecraft that no one knows about.

Gold mine's toxic plume extends to Utah

FARMINGTON, N.M. — The plume of heavy metals released last week into the Animas River from the Gold King Mine near Silverton, Colo., reached Utah on Monday.

As of Monday evening, officials said the plume of contamination was southeast of Montezuma Creek, Utah, and was headed for Lake Powell. Environmental Protection Agency officials say the pollutants in the plume include arsenic, lead, copper, aluminum and cadmium, but have not released any detailed information on the spill that started Wednesday morning and has since been contained.

The Gold King Mine's discharge raises the possibility of long-term damage from the toxic metals falling out of suspension as the plume slowly moves along the river.

Environmental impact


The long-term impacts of the spill are unknown, but sedimentation is expected to dilute the pollutants as the spill cloud moves downstream. The acid mine drainage changed the color of the river to orange.

By August 7, the waste reached Aztec, New Mexico, then the next day, it reached the city of Farmington, the largest municipality affected by the disaster. By August 10, the waste had reached the San Juan River in New Mexico and Shiprock (part of the Navajo Nation), with no evidence to that date of human injury or wildlife die-off. The heavy metals appeared to be settling to the bottom of the river because largely, they are insoluble unless the entire river becomes very acidic. The waste was initially expected to reach Lake Powell by August 12, but had not yet reached it or the portion of the San Juan River within Glen Canyon by midday. By August 11, toxicity levels at Durango had already returned to pre-incident levels. On August 12, the leading edge of the plume was no longer visible
