U.S. Clarifies Its Policy on Peacekeeping
September 24, 1993 JOHN M. BRODER TIMES STAFF WRITER
WASHINGTON — The United States will be willing to commit its forces to multinational peacekeeping operations when American interests are not directly threatened, but it generally will act alone when its fundamental economic and political interests are at stake, Administration officials said Thursday.
Furthermore, the United States will set strict limits on the kinds of U.N. operations it will take part in and under whose command. The more dangerous and more complex a mission is, the more insistent the Administration will be that it be led by Americans, officials said.
The outlines of U.S. policy on multinational peacekeeping operations were delivered Thursday by Madeleine Albright, the American ambassador to the United Nations, in a speech at the National War College in Washington. Her remarks reflected the continuing debate within the Administration over conditions governing U.S. participation in multilateral military operations.
Her address was the third in a series of speeches this week by senior Administration officials aimed at clarifying America's foreign policy goals and its strategy for achieving them.
Secretary of State Warren Christopher and National Security Adviser Anthony Lake earlier laid out the broad principles of Clinton Administration foreign policy.
Albright on Thursday focused on peacekeeping operations as the Administration and Congress wrestle with troubling developments in Somalia, where more than 4,000 U.S. troops are engaged in efforts to relieve starvation and establish a measure of political stability. The Administration is also preparing to send as many as 25,000 troops to enforce a peace settlement in Bosnia-Herzegovina.

XLIII President of the United States: 2001 - 2009
Statement on the Nomination of James W. Holsinger, Jr., To Be Surgeon General
May 24, 2007
Today I have announced my intention to nominate James W. Holsinger, Jr., to serve as the 18th Surgeon General of the United States. Dr. Holsinger is an accomplished physician who has led one of our Nation's largest health care systems, the State of Kentucky's health care system, and the University of Kentucky's Medical Center. He also has taught at several American medical schools, and he served more than three decades in the United States Army Reserve, retiring in 1993 as a Major General.
As America's chief health educator, he will be charged with providing the best scientific information available on how Americans can make smart choices that improve their health and reduce their risk of illness and injury. Dr. Holsinger will particularly focus his efforts on educating parents and children about childhood obesity, a serious epidemic that decreases quality of life and burdens our health care system. I am confident that Dr. Holsinger will help our Nation confront this challenge and many others to ensure that Americans live longer, better, and healthier lives.

William J. Clinton
XLII President of the United States: 1993-2001
Remarks to American Troops at Tuzla Airfield, Bosnia-Herzegovina
January 13, 1996
The President. General Nash, Sergeant Major Tilley, the men and women of Task Force Eagle, the 1st Armored Division, the 3d Infantry Division, the 3d Battalion of the Three-Two-Five Parachute Infantry Regiment, the Air Force 4100th Provisional Group, the legendary Red Horse engineers, the Navy Seabees, and all the veterans of the Tuzla mud: I am proud to stand with you today on dry ground. I come with a simple message: Your country is very proud of you. I'm glad to be joined here today by General Shalikashvili; by General Joulwan; our Ambassador to the United Nations, Madeleine Albright; and a very distinguished delegation from the United States Congress. They're standing over there to my left and to your right. I hope you will make them feel welcome. They are here to support you.
We know that you are the best trained, best equipped, best prepared fighters in the world. Time and again, you have stood down aggression. Time and again you have triumphed in war. But to Bosnia you came on a mission of peace, a mission for heroes. We thank you for defending our Nation's values and our Nation's interests. We thank you for helping the Bosnian people. Men and women of Operation Joint Endeavor, we thank you here for being warriors for peace.
When I last saw many of you in Baumholder, the headquarters of the 1st Armored Division in Germany, your Humvees were a little cleaner, your BDU's a little greener. But to me, seeing you here in the field, doing the jobs you were trained for so well, you have never looked better.
Soon I will have a chance to be briefed again by your commanders, Admiral Smith and General Nash. On behalf of a grateful nation, I want to tell everyone what I know they are going to tell me from our already brief conversations. We know that in less than a month and despite terrible weather, 7,000 of our Nation's finest fighters, the first wave of a force to be 20,000 strong, have set up camp in Bosnia. We know you fought rain and floods to bridge the Sava River in our biggest military river crossing since 1945. We know that in only 2 weeks, more than 2,000 vehicles—M1's, Bradleys, Humvees and more—have rolled across the waters and rumbled into town. We know you have secured your base of operations and established base camps throughout your sector.
I just came from Outpost Lima, manned by the Charlie Rock Company of the 3d Battalion. I saw for myself that the "Third Herd" and everyone else at the outpost are doing a great job in what might be called less than great conditions.
You took an airfield that had no lights or navigational equipment, turned it around and opened it for business 24 hours a day, at least when the fog permits. You've strung nearly 5 miles of phone and cable wire to build a massive modern communications network.
You're working with soldiers from more than two dozen other nations, and I have met some of their leaders here today. Among them are former adversaries who are now our friends— Polish and Czech combat battalions, Hungarian engineering corps, soldiers from the Baltic States, an entire Russian brigade—and, of course, the Nordic brigade that has been here for some time now. From the ashes of war in Bosnia, you and they together are raising the torch of a new undivided Europe. Step by steady step, you are making history here in Bosnia. Don't you ever forget that, even when this extraordinary mission may seem routine.
I am told that some of you have compared life here with the Bill Murray movie "Groundhog Day," where the same day keeps repeating itself over and over and over again. I'm also told that there are really only two kinds of weather conditions here in Tuzla. When it snows, the mud freezes, and when it rains, the mud thaws. Even the dining hall apparently is in on the act, dishing out the same food every morning and night.
Just remember this: The military promised you square meals. And when you get your eggs each morning, you know the military has kept its commitment to you. I see you laughing about that, and I want you to be able to laugh. I hope you'll be laughing tomorrow morning at breakfast.
But I am very serious when I tell you that your mission is anything but routine. There has never been anything quite like it before. The Bosnian people have chosen peace, but they cannot do it alone. You and our allies must give them the confidence they need to follow the rules they have agreed to. We have a strong interest here in seeing peace take hold. The people of Bosnia have suffered so much; Europe's stability, so crucial to our own, has been threatened; and we all want a safer, better world for our children.
The Bosnian people are exhausted by war. You can give them the strength they need for peace. This mission requires your strength and your skill, separating former enemies, avoiding the dangers of mines, making sure the ceasefire holds, creating a stable environment. From the days on your feet in the rain and the snow to the nights you must sleep in your Bradleys, this mission requires your strength, your skills, your determination.
The people around you know you are prepared, heavily armed, ready to meet any threat to your safety. They know that our J-STAR aircraft are patrolling high above the clouds, tracking the smallest movement; that out in the Adriatic the Navy and the Marine Corps are ready to project power at a moment's notice; that just above the treetops, the Army's Apache gunships are scouring the ground below; and that our Special Forces are here, there, and everywhere.
I have said it before and I will say it again: You can see from this operation that America looks out for its own. I know the burden of our leadership weighs heavily on you and your loved ones back home. Just as your commanders and I are committed to protecting your safety, so we are working to help your families, to keep them informed and in touch with you, to help them with the things that matter most, like day care and health care and paying the bills. The pride your families have in you is shared by Americans all across our Nation. We look at you all and we look at all you're doing here, confident, compassionate, disciplined, and strong, and we see in you the best our country has to offer.
Before I left Washington to be with you, I signed an Executive order that creates a new campaign medal. It's called the Armed Forces Service Medal. It will be awarded to all those who serve our Nation in significant noncombat military missions, such as peacekeeping. I am pleased to announce that as participants in Operation Joint Endeavor, each of you will receive America's newest military honor.
As you move around the world—excuse me, as you move ahead with your mission, I ask you, too, to keep this in mind: Around the world people look to America not just because of our size and strength but because of what we stand for and what we're willing to stand against. And though it imposes extra burdens on us, people trust us to help them share in the blessings of peace. We can't be everywhere, and even you can't do everything. But where we can make a difference, where our values and our interests are at stake, we must act. Here, where our values and interests so clearly are at stake, you are acting on America's behalf.
All the people of Bosnia are looking to America, and so we look to you, the men and women of our Armed Forces. Here our Nation, through you, can make a difference between a war that starts again and a peace that takes hold. From the highest commander to the newest recruit, that difference lies in your hands. You give America power and strength. And you are giving Bosnia a new day of peace. Always be proud of what you are doing here. Your country and your Commander in Chief are immensely proud of you.
God bless you all, and God bless the United States of America. Thank you.
As part of our family outreach, I'd like to ask Colonel Neal Patton to come up here. Colonel Patton, where are you?
I flew into Aviano, Italy, this morning at 6 o'clock, and there were a huge number of young children there and a lot of family members. Colonel Patton's wife gave me a hug and said, "You sent my husband to Tuzla. So I expect you, Mr. President, to personally deliver his birthday present." Here it is, Colonel. Happy birthday.
Col. Neal Patton. Sir, thank you very much. That's really something. Thank you.
The President. Thank you very much.
NOTE: The President spoke at 2:18 p.m. In his remarks, he referred to Maj. Gen. William L. Nash, USA, Commanding General, 1st Armored Division; Sgt. Maj. Jack Tilley, USA, 1st Armored Division; and Adm. Leighton Smith, USN, Commander in Chief, Allied Forces Southern Europe.

X-15 #2 landing accident at Mud Lake, Nevada on November 9, 1962 after flight 2-31-52.
Photo Description: NASA research pilot Jack McKay was injured in a crash landing of the X-15 #2 on November 9, 1962. Following the launch from the B-52 to begin flight 2-31-52, he started the X-15?s rocket engine, only to discover that it produced just 30 percent of its maximum thrust. He had to make a high-speed emergency landing on Mud Lake, NV, without flaps but with a significant amount of fuel still in the aircraft. As the X-15 slid across the lakebed, the left skid collapsed; the aircraft turned sideways and flipped onto its back. McKay suffered back injuries but was eventually able to resume X-15 pilot duties, making 22 more flights. The X-15 was sent back to North American Aviation and rebuilt into the X-15A-2.
Project Description: An unofficial motto of flight research in the 1940s and 1950s was "higher and faster." By the late 1950s the last frontier of that goal was hypersonic flight (Mach 5+) to the edge of space. It would require a huge leap in aeronautical technology, life support systems and flight planning. The North American X-15 rocket plane was built to meet that challenge. It was designed to fly at speeds up to Mach 6, and altitudes up to 250,000 ft. The aircraft went on to reach a maximum speed of Mach 6.7 and a maximum altitude of 354,200 ft. Looking at it another way, Mach 6 is about one mile per second, and flight above 264,000 ft. qualifies an Air Force pilot for astronaut wings.
The X-15 was a rocket-powered aircraft 50 ft long with a wingspan of 22 ft. It was a missile-shaped vehicle with an unusual wedge-shaped vertical tail, thin stubby wings, and unique side fairings that extended along the side of the fuselage. The X-15 weighed about 14,000 lb empty and approximately 34,000 lb at launch. The XLR-99 rocket engine, manufactured by Thiokol Chemical Corp., was pilot controlled and was capable of developing 57,000 lb of thrust. North American Aviation built three X-15 aircraft for the program.
The X-15 research aircraft was developed to provide in-flight information and data on aerodynamics, structures, flight controls, and the physiological aspects of high-speed, high-altitude flight. A follow-on program used the aircraft as a testbed to carry various scientific experiments beyond the Earth's atmosphere on a repeated basis.
For flight in the dense air of the usable atmosphere, the X-15 used conventional aerodynamic controls such as rudders on the vertical stabilizers to control yaw and movable horizontal stabilizers to control pitch when moving in synchronization or roll when moved differentially.
For flight in the thin air outside of the appreciable Earth's atmosphere, the X-15 used a reaction control system. Hydrogen peroxide thrust rockets located on the nose of the aircraft provided pitch and yaw control. Those on the wings controlled roll.
Because of the large fuel consumption, the X-15 was air launched from a B-52 aircraft at 45,000 ft and a speed of about 500 mph. Depending on the mission, the rocket engine provided thrust for the first 80 to 120 sec of flight. The remainder of the normal 10 to 11 min. flight was powerless and ended with a 200-mph glide landing.
Generally, one of two types of X-15 flight profiles was used; a high-altitude flight plan that called for the pilot to maintain a steep rate of climb, or a speed profile that called for the pilot to push over and maintain a level altitude.
The X-15 was flown over a period of nearly 10 years -- June 1959 to Oct. 1968 -- and set the world's unofficial speed and altitude records of 4,520 mph (Mach 6.7) and 354,200 ft in a program to investigate all aspects of piloted hypersonic flight. Information gained from the highly successful X-15 program contributed to the development of the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo piloted spaceflight programs, and also the Space Shuttle program.
The X-15s made a total of 199 flights, and were manufactured by North American Aviation.

John B. McKay
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
John Barron McKay (December 8, 1922 – April 27, 1975) was an American naval officer and aviator in World War II, test pilot, and one of the first pilots assigned to the X-15 flight research program at NASA's Flight Research Center, Edwards Air Force Base, California. As a civilian research pilot and aeronautical engineer, he made 30 flights in X-15s from October 28, 1960, until September 8, 1966. His peak altitude was 295,600 feet (55.98 miles), and his highest speed was 3,863 mph (Mach 5.64).
Death
John B. McKay died on April 27, 1975 in Lancaster, California at the age of 52. The injuries he had sustained during his X-15 crash (rolled inverted during rollout with his helmet dug into the lakebed) were major contributing factors.

XLII President of the United States: 1993-2001
Remarks on Arrival in Zagreb, Croatia
January 13, 1996
Thank you very much, President Tudjman, for making me feel so welcome. And thank you for coming out in such large and enthusiastic numbers. It's wonderful to be here in Zagreb and in Croatia. And I thank you for making me feel so welcome.
I have just come from Bosnia, from visiting our troops there who are working with the others to support the peace process. And I come here to thank President Tudjman and the people of Croatia for supporting the peace process in Bosnia. I come to support not only the peace process but the federation in Bosnia between the Muslims and the Croats, the peaceful agreement for the return of Croatian lands in Eastern Slavonia, and the ultimate partnership of Croatia with not only the United States but with other Western nations who believe in freedom and human rights and democracy and peace and progress, working together.
My friends, on behalf of the United States, I have been honored to work for peace from the Middle East to Northern Ireland to Bosnia. And I believe that, in these conflicts I have seen, that the fight has not been between Arab and Jew in the Middle East, not between Catholic and Protestant in Northern Ireland, not between Serb and Croat and Muslim in Bosnia. It is a conflict between those who choose peace and those who would stay with war, those who look to a better future and those who are trapped in the past, those who open their arms to their neighbors and those who would keep their fist clenched.
So I ask you in closing to choose peace, choose the future, open your arms. The United States extends its hand in friendship to you.
Thank you again for making me feel so welcome.

The American Presidency Project
Ronald Reagan
XL President of the United States: 1981 - 1989
Remarks at a White House Luncheon Honoring the Astronauts of the Space Shuttle Columbia
May 19, 1981
The President. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome. And before we say anything at all or I make any remarks—because there are many here who probably don't know that in addition to the men we're honoring today, that there are in our midst, as a great part of this audience, many who have been those pioneers out into space, our astronauts going back to the very beginning of the program. Could I ask that all of you who fit that description, all of you, to please stand up?
Well, we're in very distinguished company, believe me. Commander Young and Captain Crippen, all the world held its breath in the silent moments of your reentry, and when we finally heard your voices again, all the world knew America had begun a new age.
A few moments ago, I had the privilege of decorating Commander Young and Captain Crippen for their personal courage and the honor they have brought to our nation, and also honored Dr. Alan Lovelace, who is here with us today, but more about that later. I presented to John Young the Congressional Space Medal of Honor, our highest award for achievements in space, and to both him and Bob Crippen, the NASA Distinguished Service Medal, the highest award the space agency can bestow.
These men have traveled across the country since their shuttle flight, and I think they now must be conscious of and realize that to all America they have now become John and Bob. The American people have welcomed them with tremendous affection, and no wonder. Through them, we've all been part of a greatness pushing wider the boundaries of our freedom. As I told them before they took off, through them we all felt as giants once again. And once again, we felt the surge of pride that comes from knowing that we're the first and we're the best—and we are so because we're free.
The space shuttle is the world's first true space transportation system. It will be the space workhorse for many years to come, and soon we'll have the operational capability that will place cargo in orbit for a variety of users. Because we lead the world in science and space travel, we're on the cutting edge of technology and discovery. The shuttle will affect American life in both subtle and dramatic ways, bringing energy and excitement into our national renewal.
The flight of the Columbia was a victory for the American spirit. John Young and Bob Crippen both made us very proud. Their deeds reminded us that we, as a free people, can accomplish whatever we set out to do. Nothing binds our abilities except our expectations, and given that, the farthest star is within our reach.
To paraphrase John Greenleaf Whittier: We are the people who have thrown the windows of our souls wide open to the sun. We will follow as we can where our hearts have long since gone, and progress will be ours for all mankind to share. Americans have shown the world that we not only dream great dreams, we dare to live those great dreams.
And now, I would like to introduce a man whose leadership and high standards have made the success of the Columbia possible. Ladies and gentlemen, the acting director of NASA, Dr. Alan M. Lovelace.
Dr. Lovelace. I'd like to ask John and Bob to join me. And, Vice President Bush, would you please join me at the podium?
Mr. President, I'd like to just say one brief remark—and I know I speak for myself, I think I speak for everybody in NASA—and that is, we thank you for the opportunity to serve the country, and we are prepared to continue to do that.
I would like now to present to you, Mr. President, your flag that was flown on the first flight of the Columbia.
The President. Thank you very much.
Dr. Lovelace. And, Mr. Vice President, a flag for you, sir.
The Vice President. Thank you very much.
Dr. Lovelace. Mr. President, we had the pleasure of hosting Vice President Bush at the Kennedy Space Center some weeks ago, and on that occasion, we presented him with a flight jacket. We brought yours here to Washington, and I'd like to present it to you today. Suitable for flying or riding. [Laughter]
Mr. Young. It's a great honor for Bob and I to be here today. And we'd also like to make a presentation to the President that tells, for all of you who contributed so much to this program, just exactly what it's all about. Could you unveil that, please?
[A plaque detailing the history of the space shuttle program was unveiled.]
It's always significant to me that the United States flag is the biggest thing on there. Let's never forget that. And this, to the Vice President, the same kind of memento.
The President. You won't mind if I only wear this within Earth's atmosphere. [Laughter] But, thank you all very much. And now, I think there's two individuals here that you'd like to meet also, because I think they have to be just as courageous or even more so than those who make the flight. I think you'd like to see Mrs. Young and Mrs. Crippen. Would you stand, please?
And we're back at ground zero; we have landed successfully. Thank you.
Note: The President spoke at 1:30 p.m. in a tent constructed for the luncheon in the Rose Garden at the White House.
In an Oval Office ceremony prior to the luncheon, the President presented the NASA Distinguished Service Medal to John W. Young and Capt. Robert L. Crippen, the Congressional Space Medal of Honor to Mr. Young for his 16-year service in the space program

They stuck a lot of needles in me when I was inpatient at the University of Washington Medical Center back in the summer of 2005. I remember one very dark night when I was in a mental haze from the drugs they were forcing on me (only because I went to the City of Kent Washington police department to report criminal activity directed at my personal property and which continues unabated to this very day) and I awoke in the dark in that hospital bed and a woman was glaring at me as she stuck another needle in hand. I thought about that later and I decided she was glaring at me because she was possibly expected me to club her with my fist, which I did not.

XLIII President of the United States: 2001 - 2009
Remarks at the Swearing-In Ceremony for Roderick R. Paige as Secretary of Education
January 24, 2001
Thank you very much. Mr. Vice President, thank you very much; Dr. Paige, family members. I look out and see so many Members from the United States Senate. Mr. Chairman, thank you for coming. Senator Kennedy, I appreciate you being here, as well. I don't want to skip anybody, but the reason I mention those two, they happen to be the chairman and ranking minority of the Education Committee. I see Members from the House who are here. Thank you all for coming, as well, of course, Senator Hutchison, from the home State of Dr. Paige and the President— [laughter]—John Culberson from the district which represents Houston. So, thank you for coming. I am honored you are here.
Ladies and gentlemen, it is an honor to witness the swearing-in of a man who will help us see important reforms for education become reality.
The Vice President and I were so pleased to be invited and are pleased to be here in this important building. It is an important moment, and we certainly were not going to miss it. I wanted to see the beginning of a new era in public education.
Dr. Paige and I share a basic commitment: We will work to bring excellence to all public schools all across America. I picked a really good man to run this Department, a man of integrity, a man of common sense, a down-to-earth man who knows how to get the job done.

I can still remember that I had brought to her a couple of items and I was feeling apologetic because I had not included those items, and this part has always been vague, in some kind of report. But what is not vague is that I saw a brief smile from her, which I thought of because I might have been feeling apologetic perhaps for overlooking something earlier, which was the reason I was talking to her again and with those two items in hands, one of which was a pair of wire cutters and the other was a non-conductive tool that I remember from using to adjust certain variable electronic components as potentiometers and similar items that are soldered to printed circuit boards, and so apparently those two items were part of a collection that was being put together and I came back to her and told her we needed to add those items to the collection.

They aren't "God," they just have greater capabilities than we do. They are willing to share with us. Although, I have my doubts on this notion. If they would share, I think I have argued, they would provide basic necessities. They would ensure that all children have enough to eat and they don't get sick. There really is no faith to their abilities until they can provide such services to our people. I recognize their abilities, but I also question why they can't provide such quality of life improvement to all humans.

All of this is really just an exercise with 2 objectives. One is to prepare me, as much is possible, for when they send me out in a few years on a long-term mission to explore the galaxy and beyond. Another is that - and this will help with that long-term mission because they will be along - the "others" have no real understanding of conflict. They have lived as a collective mindset throughout their history that they never developed a sense of individuality. A small section of them arrived on Earth millions of years ago but were disconnected from their collective on Callisto. Initially, they recognized a collective organization on Earth - because of the atmosphere - but then after a long time, they begin to recognize - and this was a real leap for them - the aspects of individuality. They have been here on Earth longer than humans and eventually they found me.

PAULO: What the hell's that?
[Nikki opens the bottle and thrusts it at Paulo, causing the spider to land on his neck and bite him.]
PAULO: Are you out of your mind?
NIKKI: You remember Dr. Arzt's friend. Did it bite you? Does it hurt? He told me why they call it the Medusa Spider. Wanna know why?
[Paulo begins to shake and grabs Nikki.]
PAULO: What did you do?
NIKKI: Because one look from Medusa will turn anyone to stone, just like one bite from the spider will paralyze you, for about eight hours. It won't kill you, it'll just slow your heart rate down to the point of where even a doctor would have a hard time—
[Paulo falls to the ground.]
NIKKI: —hearing it beat. You won't be able to move a muscle, so I'll be able to do, all sorts of nasty things to you. And since it bit you on your neck, I'd say paralysis will happen fast. I'm guessing that you have the diamonds on you. Huh?
[Nikki searches Paulo.]
NIKKI: In a shoe, maybe?
[Finding nothing, she throws the shoe away, and it catches in a tree.]
NIKKI: [Pauses] I think I know where...
[She undoes Paulo's belt and zipper, and pulls out the pouch from his underwear.]
NIKKI: Son of a bitch.
PAULO: I'm sorry.
NIKKI: You're only sorry cause you got caught.
PAULO: I was, afraid, of losing you. If you found the diamonds, you wouldn't need me any more.
[As Nikki looks on forgivingly, the clicking sound of the Monster can be heard. As Nikki looks around, numerous male Medusa spiders approach. One crawls on Nikki's leg, and she shakes it off, but not before it bites her.]
NIKKI: Ow, dammit! Oh no! No! No, no.
[She runs through the jungle and buries the diamond pouch in the dirt. She then arrives at the beach, finding Hurley and Sawyer.]
HURLEY: Er, you OK?
[Nikki collapses face down, and is turned over by Sawyer and Hurley.]
HURLEY: Hey, hey, what happened?
NIKKI: Para...lyzed.

I'd have to send for 'em.
That would be like

Tigh: What the hell is outside the combat zone at this point?
Adama: They better start having babies.
(Apollo and Tigh look over.)
Tigh: Is that an order?
Adama: Maybe before too long. Okay, we're gonna take the civilians with us. We're gonna leave this solar system and we're not gonna come back.
Tigh: We're running.
Adama: This war is over. We lost.
Apollo: My father's right. It's time for us to get out of here.
Tigh: So where are we going, Commander?
Adama: The Perlmar (Promar?) Sector.
Tigh: That's way past the red line.
Adama: Can you plot that jump?
Gaeta: I've never plotted a jump that far, sir.
Adama: No one has. Can you plot that jump?
Gaeta: Yes, sir.
Adama: Do it. By yourself. This is a bad tactical position. We'll pull the Galactica out five clicks. The civilians will come out behind us, cross the threshold, make the jump. While we hold off the Cylons. Once the civilians have made the jump, every fighter is to make an immediate combat landing. We don't have much time.
Apollo: I'll tell them.
Adama: I want all my pilots to return. Do you understand?
Apollo: Yes, sir, I do. (He leaves.)
Tigh: So can I ask what changed your mind?
Adama: You can ask.

Dr. Brand: Our atmosphere is 80 percent nitrogen. We don't even breathe nitrogen. Blight does, and as it thrives, our air gets less and less oxygen. The last people to starve, will be the first to suffocate. And your daughter's generation will be the last to survive on Earth.

I wonder where the divergence point is in history? When did I become Kerry Burgess and who am I really?

Hello Cooper.
Professor Brand.
Explain to me how you found this facility.
Kind of accidently stumbled upon it. We were on a salvage run...
You're sitting in the best kept secret in the world. Nobody stumbles in here, nobody stumbles out.
Cooper, please, cooperate with these people.
Well, it's kinda hard to explain. We we.., we learnt these coordinates... ...from an anomaly.
-What sort of anomaly?
I hesitate to term it supernatural but it damn well wasn't scientific...
You're gonna have to be specific Mr. Cooper, right now.
