A United Arab Emirates-based company on Sunday offered to submit to a broader U.S. review of the security risks from its deal to take over major operations at six American ports.
{my notes:} [All I know about the UAE is from when I was in the Persian Gulf in 1988. Rumor was we were going to make a port call somewhere there. I was looking forward to it because I heard it was a good place to visit. But the visit was cancelled because of the Praying Mantis hostilities. The Iranians were saying that we would never leave the Gulf alive so we stayed out to sea in the Gulf waiting. We did leave the Gulf shortly after that, but it was to escort the first group of tankers back in after the hostilities because there was some uncertainty about whether Iran was going to escalate the fighting. Months later we left and headed for home, having stayed out to sea that whole time.]
