CAPE CANAVERAL -- The space shuttle Endeavour and a wayward satellite on Friday sped toward an orbital rendezvous on Sunday in which the astroanuts are to walk in space to boost the $150 million communications satellite into its correct orbit.
The Endeavour, which began its inaugural flight at the Kennedy Space Center at Cape Canaveral on Thursday evening, had few of the problems that have troubled some of the nation`s winged spaceships on their first flights. The biggest glitch was a lint-clogged air filter, which was little more than a nuisance.
The day was mostly spent firing jets on the shuttle and the satellite to position them for a rendezvous 230 miles above Earth, checking out space suits and exercising various shuttle systems, including the Endeavour`s 50-foot robot arm.
The astronauts interrupted their work to exchange greedings with Ukraine`s president, Leonid M. Kravchuk, who was touring the Johnson Space Center in Houston after meeting this week with President Bush.
``I would like to wish you a very successful flight,`` Kravchuk radioed through an interpreter.
The mission commander, Capt. Daniel C. Brandenstein of the Navy, thanked Kravchuk and noted that a successful mission would mean that the world would have a new communications satellite to aid international dialogue.
The Endeavour`s target is the Intelsat 6 satellite, which has been stranded 350 miles above Earth for more than two years and on Friday was slowly lowered toward a linkup with the shuttle.

Alexandre Grothendieck, (born March 28, 1928, Berlin, Germany—died November 13, 2014, Saint-Girons, France), German French mathematician who was awarded the Fields Medal in 1966 for his work in algebraic geometry.
After studies at the University of Montpellier (France) and a year at the École Normale Supérieure in Paris, Grothendieck received his doctorate from the University of Nancy (France) in 1953. After appointments at the University of São Paulo in Brazil and the University of Kansas and Harvard University in the United States, he accepted a position at the Institute of Advanced Scientific Studies, Bures-sur-Yvette, France, in 1959. He left in 1970, eventually settling at the University of Montpellier, from which he retired in 1988.
Grothendieck was awarded the Fields Medal at the International Congress of Mathematicians in Moscow in 1966. During the 19th and early 20th centuries there was an enormous growth in the area of algebraic geometry, largely through the tireless efforts of numerous Italian mathematicians. But a more abstract point of view emerged in the mid 20th century, and a great deal of the change is due to the work of Grothendieck, who built on the mathematical work of André Weil, Jean-Pierre Serre, and Oscar Zariski. Using category theory and ideas from topology, he reformulated algebraic geometry so that it applies to commutative rings (such as the integers) and not merely fields (such as the rational numbers) as hitherto. This enabled geometric methods to be applied to problems in number theory and opened up a vast field of research. Among the most notable resulting advances were Gerd Faltings’s work on the Mordell conjecture and Andrew Wiles’s solution of Fermat’s last theorem.

And DAMN if "Superman Returns" doesn't start off with something similar to what I wrote the other day. The shuttle stays connected to the carrier aircraft and takes them both up higher into the atmosphere. I wrote something about the Pegasus doing that to the Stargazer in 1994, presuming that happened to me.

In recent years I have speculated about a divergence point in my mind and I speculated that I lost it all in my mind because of a security drug I was required to consume back in the 1990s. I theorized that sometime in the year 1998 I lost conscious awareness of those secret experiences from the earlier 1990 years because I stopped taking the medical drug that affected memory. So I thought a lot about that and I speculated often in my blog about that notion. Then the notion occurred to me that the security drug was just a false notion and that the actual divergence point was the date 16 March 2013. That is my current thinking. I have almost convinced myself that I was completely aware of the past up until that date 16 March 2013. What threw me off was that, I have since theorized, is that my journal is full of lies. My past self lying to me my future self. My past self did this to me as I exist now and my past self planned it all.
