I have hundreds of these reports archived, these reports I started enthusiastically and then never finished. Every one I started with that familiar sense of enthusiasm, "Yeah," I say to myself, "this is the one. This one bursts their bubble."

Fabricated reality would have to be impossible, or very close to it, very close to impossible to escape.
Fabricated reality would have to be realistic and would have to have some kind of pre-planned process for escaping back to normal reality, or at least if there is only one person involved. With other conspirators then there are more possibilities for escape. Teamwork. Or a gatekeeper.
I post my blog and there are only maybe five or 6 people out there in the world who follow my blog and I guess those few people are real people who also now exist in this reality fabricated.
None of the other billions of people care about this information because all of the rest of you out there, you "SimCitizens", are not programmed to care about it. I despise you all so much.

Windsor Castle Suffers Extensive Fire Damage

LONDON — Windsor Castle, a second residence for the British royal family for more than 850 years, was heavily damaged by a fire that burned out of control for hours Friday, and some of its priceless paintings may have been lost.
Queen Elizabeth II rushed to the scene, 30 miles west of London, when she learned of the fire and helped to carry out some of the castle`s art treasures, which include tapestries, carpets, armor, sculpture, ancient books and antique furnishings.
``Her majesty is absolutely devastated,`` her second son, Prince Andrew, said afterward.
The fire began at 11:37 a.m. (5:37 a.m. Chicago time) and flames were still shooting into the night sky more than 11 hours later. But firefighters said the blaze was largely under control. Two people were slightly injured.
The queen has the world`s largest private art collection. Sir Roy Strong, former director of the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, said: ``I pray nothing has happened to it because otherwise it could be one of the great national heritage tragedies of this century.``
But Andrew said initial assessments suggested six paintings had been lost. The castle, which attracts 1 million tourists a year, contains masterpieces by Holbein, Rembrandt, Titian, Rubens, Van Dyck, Gainsborough, Canaletto and Da Vinci.
Damage to the fabric of the 11th Century castle was extensive, and senior fire officer David Harper said, ``Parts of it are close to collapse.``
Some of the worst damage was to the great 15th Century St. George`s banquet hall, where state banquets are held. The roof of the hall collapsed. But staff managed to salvage from the hall the world`s largest seamless carpet, a gift to Queen Victoria in the 19th Century.
``I have seen firsthand what it looks like, and it`s a pretty nasty mess,`` Andrew said. ``The devastating thing was the speed of the flames.``
A fire official said of one ravaged area: ``It`s all charred and black inside. Nothing`s worth having. Everything`s melted.``
The fire appeared to have started in a private chapel in the Chester Tower, then swept to other parts of the castle along the roof. Late Friday night, the 19th Century Brunswick Tower caught fire.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known. But security sources said it may have been started inadvertently by workers renovating the castle`s electrical system.
They ruled out arson, and particularly any suggestion the fire could have been set by the outlawed Irish Republican Army.
Windsor is the queen`s favorite castle and her usual weekend retreat from London. The largest inhabited castle in the world, it was built on the site of a fortress erected around 1070 by William the Conqueror, overlooking the Thames River.
It has played a central role in British history. King John went from Windsor to nearby Runnymede in 1215 to set his seal on the Magna Carta, the charter of liberties that English barons forced John to accept.
King Charles I was imprisoned at Windsor before his execution in 1649.
George III, king at the time of the American Revolution, was confined in the castle after he suffered bouts of madness.
The queen and her sister, Princess Margaret, sheltered in the castle during the World War II blitz of London by Nazi German bombers.

The Dreyfus affair was a political scandal that divided France from the affair's inception in 1894 until its resolution in 1906. The affair is often seen as a modern and universal symbol of injustice for reasons of state and remains one of the most striking examples of a complex miscarriage of justice where a major role was played by the press and public opinion.
The affair began in November 1894 with the conviction for treason of Captain Alfred Dreyfus, a young French artillery officer of Alsatian Jewish descent. Sentenced to life imprisonment for allegedly having communicated French military secrets to the German Embassy in Paris, Dreyfus was sent to the penal colony at Devil's Island in French Guiana, where he spent almost five years.
Two years later in 1896 evidence came to light identifying a French Army major named Ferdinand Walsin Esterhazy as the real culprit. After high-ranking military officials suppressed the new evidence a military court unanimously acquitted Esterhazy after the second day of his trial. The Army accused Dreyfus of additional charges based on false documents. Word of the military court's framing of Dreyfus and of an attendant cover-up began to spread, chiefly owing to J'accuse, a vehement open letter published in a Paris newspaper in January 1898 by the notable writer Émile Zola. Activists put pressure on the government to reopen the case.

France is marking the centenary of Alfred Dreyfus's rehabilitation, recalling a case that shook the nation.
Ceremonies honouring Dreyfus are planned for Wednesday. The BBC's Mark Lowen in Paris examines how this high-profile case of anti-Semitism continues to haunt France.
September 1894: an anonymous note to the German military attache in Paris is found, leaking French army secrets.
Panic-stricken and spurred on by a virulent anti-Semitic press, the government names the alleged culprit - a brilliant young army captain, Alfred Dreyfus, a Jew.
The affair divides France, pitting the pro-Dreyfus liberal intellectuals against the right-wing opposition, backed by the clergy and military.
Despite the clear lack of evidence, Dreyfus is found guilty of high treason and sentenced to life imprisonment on Devil's Island, French Guiana.
For 12 years, Dreyfus and his supporters fight to expose the anti-Semitic conspiracy that drove his conviction.
The open letter from novelist Emile Zola to President Felix Faure, "J'accuse", condemning those he suspected of foul play, remains a model of resistance to authority.
At the dawn of the new century, on 12 July 1906, France's highest court intervenes.
Alfred Dreyfus is found not guilty, readmitted to the army and awarded the Legion of Honour. The French state finally asserts its democratic voice.
'Revenge of Dreyfus'
The anniversary of Dreyfus's acquittal is being marked by a national ceremony led by President Jacques Chirac, a series of conferences and a new exhibition at the Paris Museum of Jewish Art and History, entitled "Alfred Dreyfus: The Fight for Justice".
The eastern city of Mulhouse, his birthplace, plans to build a monument to him.
Some are even calling for Dreyfus's ashes to be transferred to the Pantheon in Paris, the burial place of the greatest figures in French history.
The sustained interest in the Dreyfus affair indicates its long-term significance.
It fed the militancy of the far right, as those who maintained Dreyfus's guilt were marginalised to the fringes of French politics.
They drove the anti-Semitic Vichy regime that collaborated with the Nazis during World War II.
And they spawned the birth of the extreme right-wing group Action Francaise, whose founder, Charles Maurras, cried on his arrest in 1945: "This is Dreyfus's revenge."
Fundamental values
Yet the lasting impact of the affair is due not only to its direct consequences, but also to the broader principles it continues to represent - the dominance of freedom over repression, the confidence of France to stand up to those who challenge its values of liberty, equality and fraternity.
"The affair marked the birth of republican France as we know it today," said Michel Drouin, a Dreyfus historian.
Rather than repenting a miscarriage of justice, it is that idea of celebrating the positive results of the affair that characterises France's commemoration.
This is not a collective mea culpa; it is an acknowledgement that the lessons of Dreyfus's plight have been heeded.
Racist crime
But while the country proudly recalls how a Jewish citizen triumphed over anti-Semitism - the birth, it seemed, of racial equality - today's France remains tormented by racist and anti-Semitic crime.
No longer institutional, French anti-Semitism now derives largely from the Middle East conflict, appearing sporadically within some Muslim gangs, often from France's socially disadvantaged suburbs.
"Anti-Semitism is becoming more common among young generations of immigrants from France's former colonies," says Bernadette Hetier of the anti-racist group MRAP.
"They themselves are the victims of racism and social exclusion, so they vent their frustration on others."
It is a phenomenon known all too well in the Marais, Paris' main Jewish district.
One group of youths there told me they could not wear their kippahs (skullcaps) in the metro for fear of being attacked. An elderly Jewish gentleman recalled being spat on, hit and verbally abused.
All quote the example of Ilan Halimi, a Jewish boy from the suburbs of Paris, who was tortured and burned over a period of three weeks earlier this year.
The assailant targeted Halimi with the words: "He's Jewish, so he's rich."
There is the feeling here that the optimism with which Alfred Dreyfus's liberation is commemorated should not shroud the serious and ongoing problems of racial integration that this country still faces.

On March 22, 1973 Professor George Gray, FRS, CBE, published a paper describing a new type of liquid crystals that could be stabilised at room temperature for the very first time, giving birth to the first generation of liquid crystal displays or LCDs.

In 1973 Gray and his colleagues designed and synthesised a new class of liquid crystals, called cyanobiphenyls, which were stable, yet still “flippable”, at room temperature. They published a paper describing their work on March 22 1973. Excuse the little slight delay here, but may I welcome Chris Smith and others, and certainly Lou Sullivan, who's doing a superb job for this country as Secretary of HHS; Assistant Secretary Barnhart; and I mentioned Representative Smith; and I would consider, looking around, this crowd as all distinguished guests. And welcome, especially, to those here who truly know the meaning of the holiday we celebrate tomorrow, for those of us whose lives have been touched by adoption realize, I think, quite profoundly, what Thanksgiving is all about.
It gives me particular pleasure to proclaim this our 28th National Adoption Week. Each year more than 50,000 children join new families here in America. Each year tens of thousands of lives are enriched by this act of faith, courage, and generosity. That means not only the lives of children who have finally found the security and belonging they desire, but also the lives of their families and friends, their new families and friends.

A woman, who typed beneath her signature the words, "Average Middle American," was just as blunt. Her husband recently lost his job, and she wrote that "it's pretty thorny out there."

NARRATOR: By mid 1940, the German Army had conquered all of western Europe. Hitler was tightening the noose around Britain. In the Atlantic, German U-boats were decimating Allied convoys, threatening to cut off Britain's only lifeline. But Churchill had a secret weapon, the strangest military establishment in the world. Crossword fanatics, chess champions, mathematicians, students and professors, Americans and British, all came here with one common aim: to unlock the secrets of the Enigma, a machine that concealed Germany's war plans in seemingly unbreakable code. If Enigma could be penetrated, everything Hitler plotted would be known in advance.
NARRATOR: In 1939, Germany introduces a devastating new kind of warfare, blitzkrieg. Lightning attacks by tanks and planes bring Europe to its knees. Blitzkrieg depends on surprise, demanding speedy communication. So radio is crucial to the attack plans. Every day the skies are full of German radio signals. The German high command has trained thousands of wireless operators in preparation for the conquest of Europe. Their job is to be able to interpret Morse code in any conditions. But there is still the problem of how to keep the messages secret. So the German military has adopted a seemingly invincible code-making machine. The Enigma turns a message into unintelligible gibberish, letter by letter. When the message is sent in Morse code, all an enemy would see is a meaningless string of letters. But when the German operator at the receiving end types the coded letters back into his Enigma machine, the real message appears. In this way vital war plans remain totally secret. The high command never wavers from its belief in the security of Enigma. They are so confident that they deploy the Enigma throughout the German war machine. They never imagine what was about to happen at Bletchley Park.

Japan's Prince Naruhito Still Searching For His Empress Bride

TOKYO - Wanted: intelligent, attractive, athletic and discreet young Japanese woman from a leading business, diplomatic or academic family; fluent in English and also, ideally, French; with no ex-boyfriends. Must be no taller, in heels, than 5 feet 4 and no older than 25. Should be prepared to give up considerable freedom in Japan in exchange for ladies-in-waiting, overseas travel and opportunities to meet world leaders. Independent-minded career women acceptable, but no daughters of politicians, please.
The Japanese are worrying these days about war, political infighting among would-be prime ministers and the slump in the Tokyo stock market. But from time to time, their attention is diverted by another pressing issue. Crown Prince Naruhito, the 30-year-old future emperor of Japan, cannot find a wife.
As Naruhito's 31st birthday and formal investiture as crown prince approach, the Japanese media are in a lather of speculation over who, if anyone, will become his bride and Japan's future empress.
No one has a clue whom she might be, but that hasn't stopped Japan's salacious weekly magazines and lowbrow television shows from filling their pages and programs with reports of possible brides. Reporters have set up camp outside the homes of the leading ``candidates'' and have pestered their friends and family for interviews. One top ``candidate,'' Naoko Taki, a 21-year-old college student and a friend of Naruhito's younger sister, was chased by cameras every time she walked out her front door. Things got so bad that she once didn't go out for three days. Finally, her desperate mother implored: ``Naoko is terribly distressed. If any more fuss is made, she will be scarred physically and mentally, and may even lose her will to live.'' The media, mindful that this is the hottest story in Japan, ignored her.
Last week, Shinichi Nakazawa, a leading anthropologist, tried to explain why the royal bride hunt has people so transfixed. ``The only real significance the imperial family has in the modern world is based on blood bondage - the continuity from father to son,'' he said. ``So the bride problem is very important. To get married and have a son is a condition for continuity.''
Six years ago, while a student at Oxford, Naruhito laid out his marriage plans and soon lived to regret it. ``It is better if I marry before I become 30 years old, is it not?'' he said at a news conference in London. Last year, on his 30th birthday, he had to backpedal and say he meant 30 only as a ``yardstick'' age. ``I do not intend to become pessimistic about this problem at all,'' he said.
He may not be, but the prince's chamberlains and top officials of the Imperial Household Agency, the intractable, obsessively secretive group of 1,100 bureaucrats and aristocrats who run the lives of the imperial family, are said to be on an all-points search for suitable women from whom the crown prince may choose. ``It is everyone's wish that a bride be selected as soon as possible,'' a palace chamberlain in the office of the crown prince said.
Conjecture about possible brides for Naruhito dates back more than a decade, since the summer day in 1980 when he was spotted on a tennis court with the daughter of the president of a Japanese securities firm. Some 70 women have been mentioned over the years; in recent weeks the media narrowed their focus to five or six. Among them is an old standby, Masako Owada, a 1985 Harvard graduate and an official at the Second North America Division of the Japanese Foreign Ministry. She is one of the few candidates who is actually said to have been invited several times by Naruhito to his palace.

It is a night off. Apollo takes Starbuck, Cassiopeia, and Sheba to a narrow corridor above the Galactica's mammoth nuclear-fueled thrusters. They climb a scaffold to an enclosed dome chamber at the ship's very summit. Inside is a scan console and the chamber is cozy enough that Starbuck coyly comments to Cassie about its potential for love. Apollo then activates the dome, and it opens up to reveal space itself, shielded by thick transparant material. The dome is an astronavigational dome, the last surviving such dome on the Galactica since her launch five centuries earlier.
Sheba mans the scanner, which Apollo has repaired in his spare time because of his passion for deep star exploration and for relaxation via old-fashioned starmapping. To her and the others' surprise, the scanner, set for long range transmission, receives a signal, of a small starcraft orbiting a planet. Apollo records the transmission and believes the ship is like an ancient Colonial spacecraft from two millenia back.

Challenger explodes after liftoff
The space shuttle Challenger explodes just after liftoff on this day in 1986, killing the seven astronauts aboard.
The Challenger was the second shuttle built by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). It took its first flight into space on April 4, 1983, and made a total of nine voyages prior to January 1986. The 10th trip for Challenger included a teacher from New Hampshire, Christa MacAuliffe, among the astronauts, as part of a new Teacher in Space project.

Explosion rocks USS Enterprise
An explosion aboard the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise kills 27 people in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, on this day in 1969. A rocket accidentally detonated, destroying 15 planes and injuring more than 300 people.
The Enterprise was the first-ever nuclear-powered aircraft carrier when it was launched in 1960. It has eight nuclear reactors, six more than all subsequent nuclear carriers. The massive ship is over 1,100 feet long and carries 4,600 crew members.
At 8:19 a.m. on January 14, a MK-32 Zuni rocket that was loaded on an F-4 Phantom jet overheated due to the exhaust from another vehicle. The rocket blew up, setting off a chain reaction of explosions. Fires broke out across the deck of the ship, and when jet fuel flowed into the carrier's interior, other fires were sparked. Many of the Enterprise's fire-protection features failed to work properly, but the crew worked heroically and tirelessly to extinguish the fire.
In all, 27 sailors lost their lives and another 314 were seriously injured. Although 15 aircraft (out of the 32 stationed on the Enterprise at the time) were destroyed by the explosions and fire, the Enterprise itself was never threatened.
The USS Enterprise was repaired over several months at Pearl Harbor and returned to action later in the year.

High Drama On The White House Lawn

Government officials, politicians and journalists in Washington sometimes express puzzlement over why the rest of the country regularly displays such contempt for their city.
They wonder aloud: What`s so wrong with Washington that everyone hates us?
If they need instruction, the events of last weekend at the White House make an ideal case study.
We`re not talking here about the already dreary controversy surrounding President Bush, Chief of Staff John Sununu, and the credit-card-interest-rate debate. That`s one of those Washington issues that seem to flare up every two weeks or so, and then disintegrate into well-deserved nothingness.
No, our example-while tangentially concerning the credit-card flap-is more specific. It has to do with what happened when Bush returned from a short trip to Camp David. If the Washington power elite were to pay close attention to this, they might understand why they are considered so alien by people who live elsewhere.
The background for the weekend: Sununu, in a TV interview, made most of official Washington gasp in alarm when he said his boss, President Bush, had ad-libbed a line in a speech concerning the credit-card rates.
In the rest of the country, there are enough terrible problems to gasp about-violent crime, drugs, street gangs, unemployment-that most people would not have the inclination to gasp at the assertion that someone ad-libbed something. In Washington, though, Sununu`s contention that Bush ad-libbed the line seemed to be fraught with great symbolic weight.
So as the weekend began, Sununu was said to be in trouble.
Bush flew in a helicopter to Camp David. When he returned, the high drama began.
Well ... maybe you wouldn`t consider it to be high drama. But in Washington, it provided more titillation than when Gary Cooper faced down the Miller gang in ``High Noon.``
Bush`s helicopter returned from Camp David ... and Sununu was waiting on the White House lawn.
So what, you say? The guy works there, so why wouldn`t he be on the lawn? Aha. You don`t understand gripping Washington drama.
The elite of the national and international press corps were on hand to take note of every gesture and every nuance, and to flash the news around the world. Grown men and women who make their livings as political analysts watched and listened breathlessly.
And what did the world learn?
The world learned that Sununu was smiling when Bush got out of the helicopter.
(What was Sununu expected to do when he saw his boss-snarl?)
A reporter called to Bush: Do you plan to keep Sununu as your chief of staff?
Bush gave the thumbs-up sign. This made the waiting observers swoon.
(What was Bush supposed to do when he saw Sununu-stick his finger down his own throat and make retching noises?)
Then-and this was reported in newspapers around the globe-Barbara Bush kissed Sununu on the cheek.
The kiss on the cheek was considered an electrifying breakthrough moment in the drama. Correspondents dashed to telephones to convey the news of the kiss to their offices, along with the information that Sununu was wearing a green sweater.

WASHINGTON - President Bush's eldest son has informed White House Chief of Staff John Sununu that he has lost much of his support in the Republican political community, prompting an intense effort by Sununu to retain his job by demonstrating his GOP backing, White House and Republican sources said yesterday.
George W. Bush, the president's son, told Sununu last Wednesday that he had alienated members of the Cabinet, the White House staff and the Republican community, putting his effectiveness in significant doubt, the sources said.
The message to the chief of staff was meant to be taken as a suggestion that Sununu offer to resign, according to one highly placed source, but instead Sununu is seeking to prove to the president that his supporters outnumber his critics and that he should remain in his post. "My sense is the jury is still out" on whether Sununu "can hold on," the source said.
