Ironman Coeur D'Alene

Several times in recent years I have tried unsuccessfully to find an image of the course map of Ironman Coeur d'Alene in 2003. I still can't find one.

If I recall correctly then the course was the same in the 2003 and 2004. That might not be true. I cannot recall for certain.

I know that now the course is drastically different that the original course I finished in 2004. And I was aware of at least one other significant revision to it before the current version.

They might have made slights changes in 2004 over 2003 but, I don't know.

Anyway, I have been trying to remember the street names from the bicycle course I covered in 2003 and 2004.

I don't recall precisely the names but looking at these images the scenery is very familiar.

I trained in the area before on my bicycle but never in that specific area, although the cycling trail does go through there. I also recall driving my Jeep through there often.

But looking at this map that intersection of Atlas and Seltice is very familiar to my mind thinking back to the year 2003 and 2004.

The way I remember it I was pushing the pedals of my titanium Litespeed bicycle working to finish the first loop and this is just about the precise point where one of the professional racers sped past me as apparently he was approaching his finish line for the bicycle course of the three-event race.

I was working to finish the first 56 miles of that course before I began the next 56 mile loop and he was just about to finish 112 miles at that same time.

I looked more at the map and there can be only two places where that could have occurred.

The trees look familiar to me but there is also Huetter Road back down Seltice to the west.

But I don't know. I don't think that Huetter was the intersection with Seltice.

I feel that the course must have had us traveling south on Atlas and then we turned left onto Seltice and traveled east towards downtown Couer d'Alene.
