See, that's all they know.

They will begin hearing voices and all they know is that their so-called "God" could cause something like that.

So they will believe they are hearing the voice of their "God" and they will follow the instructions.

They are too weak and fragile-minded to accept other plausible explanations.

They *need* to believe because their so-called "faith" is really just a crutch they need to shield their weak and fragile minds from the harsh realities of this universe.

Their need to believe is no different than drug addicts needing a fix.
