I had a dream last night that I was flying a desk in an office. Phoebe was there and she seemed impressed as I was pushing buttons to get whatever engine was in the desk, not unlike a VTOL contraption, to get it off the floor. I wasn't flying it very well though because it kept hitting the walls and doorway.

Very clear dream just before I woke up, although I can't remember all of it. I was on a small boat, probably some type of ocean-going fishing boat that is usually non-commercial, and Phoebe was there, although I can't visualize her, so the dream is probably all some kind of fictional about certain events. I don't know what the events are supposed to represent. In the dream, there is some kind of threat developing and I wish I could remember those details. The only part I can remember well, and this is very clear in terms of visualization, is when the hostile aircraft began approaching and I was shooting at them. There were several of us shooting at them and as I review that part, which doesn't visualize will in terms of what kind of equipment we had, it would almost seem to be the gun emplacements on USN ships. I think I remember thinking to myself we didn't have enough guns or good enough guns for the threat we faced. I can visualize an aircraft approaching and I had it lined up in my sights and was firing at it. I don't remember it getting close and I can almost visualize more aircraft like it in the distance, although they never got close enough to identify. There was some kind of large transport aircraft was fairly light black exhaust, that was probably normal exhaust, that did get close enough to identify, but I am not sure what kind of aircraft it was. There were some structures very close to us in the water and I can still visualize those as they were some kind of anti-aircraft gun emplacements that were fired remotely or automatically. Two of them were close enough for me to see very clearly and I can rememember details of one of them. The other was at an angle and I could not see the machinery inside of the structure. I can still visualize the one closest to me firing into the sky and I understand from during the dream that it was firing at our aircraft. I was firing bullets into it, hoping to hit hydraulic lines or something, but was having no effect. Later I would have some kind of grenade launcher and I placed a perfect round into the mechanics of the gun turret and knocked it out, although I can remember that I fired again at least one more time, probably two more times and hit it perfectly.

I had some specific thoughts that might have been actual memories of when I was in the hospital in 1987 after I was rescued. I imagined or remembered that Phoebe was there and that she met me at the hospital at a U.S. military base in Germany and she stayed there with me at my side in the hospital. I was delirious for a while, days perhaps or even weeks, but eventually I recognized her. The nurses coming into my room at night would scare the hell out of me. When I was lost in Africa, noises in the pitch black night did not startle me so much because being startled and jumping around would not have helped the situation, especially because I usually slept at night in trees, if there were any around. After I was delirious though, I was in pretty bad shape and really had no idea what was happening.

HOUSTON, Dec. 17—Like the barnstoirining wing walkers of yore, Comdr. Ronald E. Evans took a floating walk outside the Apollo 17 space craft today as it sped away from the moon and toward earth.
It was a heady experience for the astronaut, 185,000 miles out in the vacuum of space. As he worked, retrieving film froth the experiment unit, Commander Evans chatted happily, waved to “Mom,” hummed to himself and laughed often.
“Hey, this is great,” the euphoric Commander Evans exclaimed. “Talk about being a spaceman—this is it!”
Apollo 17 was traveling 2, 200 miles an hour when Com mander Eyans opened the hatch at 3:33 P.M., Eastern standard time, and stepped out into space. The excursion was televised in color for Mis sion Control here.
Final Hatch Closing
The extra vehicular activity, or EVA, lasted until 4:20 P.M., when the hatch was closed tight for the rest of the earth ward journey.
Commander Evans, Capt. Eugene A. Cernan of the Navy and Dr. Harrison H. Schmitt, a geologist, are scheduled to splash down in the Pacific Ocean at 2:24 P.M. Tuesday. It will bring an end the na tion's lnst moon-landing mis sion in the Apollo series.
Flight controllers reported that the spieeship is “abso lutely nominal.” Its aim on earth, following yesterday's de parture from lunar orbit, is so true that no midcourse correc tive maneuver was required today.
The purpose of Commander Evans's space “walk” was to go to the rear of the command ship and collect three sets of film that had been exposed in lunar orbit. The film was from mapping and panoramic cam eras and from an ultraviolet spectrometer that was search ing for lunar atmosphere.
First Chance Outside
For the EVA, all three astro nauts donned their bulky white pressure suits and breathed oxygen pumped directly into their suits. The cabin was vented of all oxygen, and then the hatch was opened.
“Hot diggety dog!” Com mander Evans exclaimed as he stepped outside.
It was his first chance to move about since the mission's launching, for he had remained in the command ship in lunar orbit while Captain Cernan and Dr. Schmitt roamed about on the moon.
Slowly, he made his way from the hatch back to the rear of the spaceship, holding to han dles attached along the side of the vehicle. His legs floated up and out. On television, he re sembled a Jacques Cousteau diver inspecting an underwater hulk.
Mission Control radioed to him, “America, this Is Houston. You're looking good.”
Commander Evans replied: “When you do an EVA, they use their name, don't they?”
Mission Control replied, “O.K., Ron.”
Commander Evans made three trips to the experiment unit, each time collecting a film cassette and returning it to Dr. Schmitt at the open hatch.
In the excitement of the ex perience, the astronaut's heart rate shot up to 140 beats a minute from a normal rate of 70 to 80. But this had been ex pected and caused flight sur geons no concern.
Paint Is Blistered
Inspecting the spacecraft ex terior, Commander Evans re ported some blistering of the silver paint from heat. He also noticed fine ice particles around the nozzle of the waste water dump valve.
From his vantage point, Commander Evans said that he could see a full moon and a crescent earth.
“The crescent earth is not like a crescent moon,” he ex plained. “It has horns, horns that go all the way round, making an almost three-fourth circle.”
When the astronauts were awakened at 8:20 A.M. today, their spaceship had just come out of the moon's sphere of gravitational influence and was gradually accelerating from the increasing pull of the earth's gravity. The crossover came when Apollo 17 was 38,900 miles from the moon and 197,800 miles from earth.
“America, you're now under earth control,” Mission Control informed the astronauts when they were awakened.
Wealth of Data
At a news conference here, project scientists reported that all the remote-sensing instru ments on Apollo 17 had worked properly and returned a wealth of data on lunar temperatures, gravitational anomalies, sub surface features and atmos pheric gases.
The lunar sounder, a device that bounced radio signals pen etrating below the surface, gathered data at 500 million points. The infrared radiometer, which was taking surface tem peratures, returned 100 million measurements.
Dr. William E. Fastie of Johns Hopkins University said that his ultraviolet spectrom eter had worked “perfectly, but the moon was relatively unco operative.”
The instrument was scanning the moon for evidence of at mospheric gases, however thin. Although highly sensitive, the instrument was unable to iden tify any major or minor con stituents of a lunar atmosphere, finding only a few insignificant traces.
“We have come to the star tling conclusion,” Dr. Fastie said, “that the moon is not de gassing—it simply has nothing left to create an atmosphere.”

Lately I have been thinking that I gave a video tape of Phoebe's mother of the 1983 movie "The Right Stuff" and I wrote a note along with it that read "Where were you on 11/11/1966?"
Then I think to myself that she would remember because she and Phoebe's father were at my father's house to watch on television the launch of Gemini 12 and she would remember that I was not there that day during the television broadcast.
The reason I made such comments to Phoebe's mother was that I wanted her to understand that we had good reasons to be secretive. And if Phoebe's mother made any comments to anyone, then it was because I had asked her to, in support of my efforts to protect our family. I set up a lot of stuff like that, directly and indirectly, to protect our combined families.
I have also been thinking that during that Christmas, possibly in 1979, when I met Phoebe's other relatives that I....now I lost that train of thought again. I cannot remember now that other observation I wanted to make.

The Day Skylab Crashed to Earth: Facts About the First U.S. Space Station’s Re-Entry
On the anniversary of Skylab's plunge to Earth on July 11, 1979, discover how the world celebrated, feared and commercialized the spectacular event.

1. Skylab was made to go up but not to come back down.
The space station known as Skylab was designed as an orbiting workshop for research on scientific matters, such as the effects of prolonged weightlessness on the human body. Because the project represented the next step toward wider space exploration, NASA threw itself into successfully putting Skylab in orbit. Unfortunately, the agency spent far less time and energy planning how to gracefully bring the space station back to Earth at the end of its mission. Even though Skylab was devised for just a nine-year lifespan, NASA failed to build in any control or navigation mechanisms to return the orbiter to terra firma. Doing so would have “cost too much,” administrator Robert Frosch said at the time. This lack of preparation presented a problem in late 1978, when NASA engineers discovered the station’s orbit was decaying rapidly. Skylab had become a 77-ton loose cannon. As word spread of the impending uncontrolled crash of the space station, Congress and the public demanded to know how NASA intended to avoid human casualties from the potential disaster. NASA responded with a plan to rehabilitate the laboratory-in-the-sky. The agency would use a new tool in development—the space shuttle—to boost Skylab into a higher orbit, thereby extending the lab’s operational life by about five years. After that, the station would simply continue to orbit as a shell, like the millions of tons of floating detritus now known as space junk. Funding and other snafus delayed the shuttle project, however, so NASA had to come up with a new plan. On July 11, 1979, with Skylab rapidly descending from orbit, engineers fired the station’s booster rockets, sending it into a tumble they hoped would bring it down in the Indian Ocean. They were close. While large chunks did go into the ocean, parts of the space station also littered populated areas of western Australia. Fortunately, no one was injured.

I remember that day 21 July 2006 because I had finally got the call to move back the homeless shelter for veterans in Shoreline Washington which is north of Seattle. On 21 July 2006 I was walking from that Pioneer Square gulag homeless shelter on the waterfront of downtown Seattle where I had lived for 300 days and I was looking for to getting some sleep finally because at that other place I would at least have a private room. I was finding sleep impossible because people were deliberately making noises around me somewhere in some place where I could not see them and so I was constantly being jarred awake from sleep and I was very pissed off especially because I hated living in that homeless shelter and where I had no privacy. I couldn't even turn off the lights in the ceiling above me when I wanted to, not to mention the fact that anyone could sneak up on me when did get to sleep. So on this day 21 July 2006 I was walking away from that Pioneer Square gulag I was walking towards the bus stop to catch a ride to Shoreline Washington. I walked up the hill from the waterfront and when I reached the street that the bus line was on, I stopped for a minute to rest. That was when I saw him. Apparently, he had been timing his approach to me as he walked along that city street where he knew I would be going to catch the bus. What he was doing to lingering on that street and waiting for me to reach the point of the hill where that street intersected with the street I was walking on and up the hill. He would linger to the south as I traveled up the hill and to the east and then I would turn left on the street and start heading north towards the bus stop and he, to the south of my location and on that bus line city street would just sneak along behind me and follow me towards the bus stop. He was filming me with what appeared to be a digital camera. Apparently, I tripped him up because I stopped at the intersection where I was to turn left and head north towards the bus stop. I turned to look at him and his expression told me he wasn't expecting me to stop and so he continued on ahead of me and then he turned his camera around and was pointing it at me from behind him as I started walking again towards the bus stop. He was carrying in public a lit cigarette and I clearly recognized the rating symbol on his dress white United States Navy dress white uniform. In the other hand was the digital video camera he was recording me with. I continued walking and caught the bus to the Shoreline homeless shelter for veterans where I stayed until sometime in later December 2006 and that was the point when I could finally get my own apartment again, such as it was. I was still in that homeless shelter in Shoreline on Christmas 2006 but I moved out later that week and before New Years.
On the shoulder of his dress white uniform was the patch that clearly identified his unit as the USS John C. Stennis CVN 74.
