The missile, throughout its flight, is between the target and the radar that illuminates the target. It will receive radiation from the launching ship, as well as reflections from the target. The missile must therefore have some means of distinguishing between the two signals, so that it can home on the target rather than on the launching ship. This can be done in several ways. For example, a highly directional antenna may be mounted in the nose of the missile; or the Doppler principle may be used to distinguish between the transmitter signal and the target echoes. Since the missile is receding from the transmitter and approaching the target, the echo signals will be of a higher frequency. Most SMS missiles use both of these methods.
A drawback of this system is that the shipboard illumination is not free to engage another target while the missile is in flight. STANDARD SM-1 and SEASPARROW all use semi-active homing as their primary guidance; they do not use midcourse guidance. The STANDARD SM-2 uses midcourse guidance, and then semi-active homing only for terminal guidance (fig. 1-20, view A). As a result, the SM-2 needs illumination from the ship only for the last few seconds of flight.

New Catalog Brings NASA Software Down to Earth
NASA is making available to the public, at no cost, more than 1,000 codes with its release on Thursday, April 10 of a new online software catalog.
Organized into fifteen broad categories, the new catalog offers a wide variety of applications for use by industry, academia, other government agencies, and the general public.
“Software is an increasingly important element of the agency’s intellectual asset portfolio, making up about a third of our reported inventions every year,” said Jim Adams, NASA's deputy chief technologist. “We are excited to be able to make that software widely available to the public with the release of our new software catalog.”
The technologies featured in the software catalog cover project management systems, design tools, data handling, and image processing, as well as solutions for life support functions, aeronautics, structural analysis, and robotic and autonomous systems. The codes represent NASA’s best solutions to a wide array of complex mission requirements.
Each NASA code has been evaluated for access restrictions and designated for a specific type of release, ranging from codes that are open to all U.S. citizens to codes that are restricted to use by other federal agencies.
"NASA is committed to the principles of open government," said Adams. "By making NASA resources more accessible and usable by the public, we are encouraging innovation and entrepreneurship. Our technology transfer program is an important part of bringing the benefit of space exploration back to Earth for the benefit of all people."

I feel like that is part of the manipulation. I have noticed something similar in real dreams, but I don't think it is the same here. I think they are disquising themselves in my dream for some reason. Anyway, if it really was her, she actually doesn't have to worry about dressing down if we were to go out. Of course, if I have my way, it would be a moot point because why would I want to go out with her when I am in such an ugly situation? At the minimum, I would want to be back to work so that I have regained some independence. And hey, next time you are in my dreams, dear imaginary girlfriend, how about wearing a bikini? Red would be good, or yellow maybe. That would be sweet!

It's interesting how when I am walking around the city I mentally catalog any sources of heat in case I need it in the future as I remember being out homeless and cold. I also calculate how likely it would be that I would be run off for loitering at that source of heat.

The Joshan's communication with Bandar Abbas was dutifully reported to the Wainwright's embarked intelligence detachment, whose officer in charge brought the flash message to Chandler in the CIC along with an intelligence packet about the Joshan, including a profile of her captain. Half an hour later, Chandler arrayed his three ships for the impending confrontation. He formed his flotilla in a line abreast with the Wainwright to the west, the Bagley in the center, and the Simpson to the east, each separated by three nautical miles - close enough to maintain visual contact with each other but still provide a broad enough electronic triangulation to better fix the Joshan's location. Heading northeast at twenty-five knots, the Wainwright began a broad weaving movement, zigzagging from side to side to make it harder to hit with an incoming missile. Chandler ordered both the Simpson and the Wainwright to put a surface-to-air missile, a Standard Missile 1, or SM-1, up on the missile rails, but set for surface-to-surface mode, The SM-1 did not pack a large warhead, but was a fast, accurate missile, capable of supersonic speeds. Chandler also sent a helicopter aloft to help locate the Joshan. About half an hour later, the helicopter found the missile boat forty miles from the three U.S. warships and closing fast.
He relayed this back to Less, requesting further guidance. Amazingly, he received an unusual order directing him to "warn the Joshan away." In an attempt to save Iranian lives, and perhaps unable to comprehend that any small patrol boat would single-handedly try to take on the full might of the U.S. Navy, Less directed Chandler to tell the Iranian patrol boat to keep her distance. He was caught in the strange condition of being between peace and war; this directive meant that he should try every means to warn the Joshan away. As Captain Chandler later said, "I would have shot him at thirty-five miles had I not been told to warn him away." The Wainwright raised the Iranian boat on the standard commercial frequency, and Captain Chandler grabbed the microphone: "Iranian patrol frigate," he began, giving the boat's location, direction, and speed, "this is United States Navy warship. Do not interfere with my actions. Remain clear or you will be destroyed."
Mallek responded in his heavily accented but adequate English. "I am doing my duty," he said, adding that he was in international waters and "would commit no provocative acts." All the while the two forces closed at fifty miles an hour.
Tensions mounted both on board the Wainwright and up the chain of command. The Wainwright's weapons officer, Marty Drake, could not understand why they did not fire. "Sir," he cautioned, "he's got the last remaining Harpoon." But Chandler still had it in his mind that he needed to warn her away, and he maintained this even when the Joshan locked on with its fire control radar. Listening in over the net back on the Coronado and in Tampa, Less and Crist grew increasingly concerned. Less liked the idea of giving the Iranians a warning in hopes of sparing lives, but after repeated warnings he wondered why Chandler had not opened fire. General Crist turned to a senior staff officer sitting next to him and asked apprehensively, "Why doesn't he just blow him out of the water?"
Finally, with only thirteen miles separating the two forces - close enough for the Joshan's captain to see the Wainwright's mast peeking just above the horizon - Chandler issued his fourth and final warning to the Joshan - "Stop and abandon ship. I intend to sink you."
With this Mallek decided to act. If the Americans were going to attack him, he would not take the first hit.

Jonathan J. "Jack" O'Neill, Lieutenant General, USAF, is a fictional character in the military science fiction franchise Stargate, and primarily one of the main characters of the television series Stargate SG-1. He is most known as portrayed by actor Richard Dean Anderson, who played O'Neill in all the Stargate media since 1997, when he took over the role from actor Kurt Russell, who portrayed the character in the original Stargate film in 1994. O'Neill and Daniel Jackson are the only two characters to appear in both the original film and all 3 Stargate television series.
In his first appearance in the 1994 film as Colonel Jack O'Neil, the character leads the first team to go through the Stargate on a reconnaissance mission. He subsequently becomes the main character of the television series Stargate SG-1 created in 1997 as a sequel to the movie. In the first seven seasons of the show, Colonel Jack O'Neill, recalled from retirement after the first film, is the leader of the team SG-1, a part of the Stargate Program whose goal is to explore the galaxy and defend against any & all alien threats.
The character became less prominent in the eighth season in which he is promoted to Commanding Officer of Stargate Command, at the rank of Brigadier General, therefore greatly reducing the character's time spent exploring via the Stargate.

Ballmer, 42, a close friend of Gates from their student days at Harvard University, joined Microsoft in 1980, five years after its founding, and has run its finance, recruiting and sales operations, amassing a fortune in stock currently worth about $13.5 billion.
Ballmer, most recently executive vice president of sales and support, long has been seen as the only logical choice to step in should anything happen to Gates, who tried to dispel any notion that he would take a less active role.
"I'm very excited about my job," Gates said in a conference call with reporters. "If anything, this makes it even more attractive, so there's nothing in here where I'm backing off at all. My commitment is the same as it's always been."
He said the appointment would allow him to spend more time with software developers working on "architectural breakthroughs" for a new generation of devices such as television set-top boxes, smart phones and tablet computers.
Ballmer becomes Microsoft's first president since the departure of Mike Hallman in 1992 and will take over responsibility for virtually all the company's operations.

The Mall
Watching in recent hours this evening the DVD for the 1994 television miniseries Stephen King's "The Stand," as I didn't make it all the way through the first DVD of the two-disc set, I have watched some scenes this evening that remind me of a dream I had in recent weeks. I don't recall the precise day I had that dream but it wasn't long ago and I have thought about it several times since then and I can still visualize certain scenes in it and I have kept thinking to myself that the dream was important and that the details I saw in that dream were important and somehow relevant to the real world. So I am watching tonight the scenes at their campsite next to the streams and that reminded me of that dream in certain regards and then I saw "Mother Abagail" laughing with delight as she ran a remote-controlled lawn mower across her yard in Boulder Colorado and that reminded me of my dream and so finally I decided to stop and make this note at the point where "Mother Abagail" is praying to God right around the time the power station is being brought back online and unless I am too much mistaken, having paused the DVD at this point, where she takes off into the night and everyone begins searching for her.
What that part makes me think about is how in that dream, I am thinking about as I write these paragraphs, for the first time I can ever recall I actually had a vivid dream where I was talking in person to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the person I was talking to, I was very certain in the dream, was literally Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
I can still remember that I had brought to her a couple of items and I was feeling apologetic because I had not included those items, and this part has always been vague, in some kind of report. But what is not vague is that I saw a brief smile from her, which I thought of because I might have been feeling apologetic perhaps for overlooking something earlier, which was the reason I was talking to her again and with those two items in hands, one of which was a pair of wire cutters and the other was a non-conductive tool that I remember from using to adjust certain variable electronic components as potentiometers and similar items that are soldered to printed circuit boards, and so apparently those two items were part of a collection that was being put together and I came back to her and told her we needed to add those items to the collection. Reinforcing the notion that we were all moving somewhere, which is vague now in sequence because I cannot recall which happened first, is the scene with the lawn mower. But I wasn't using a lawn mower but I was using a device for trimming grass. I think the actual product name is Weed Eater. Similar to 'Jet Ski' I think that product name has become synonymous with products that fulfill a similar purpose. So anyway, at some point in the dream and the sequence of events in the dream is now lost in my mind, or maybe not, I had arrived at a place where two streams converged and that place seemed to be a destination. There might have been people there already but I keep wanting to say that I was part of a group that was moving to that location and that was someplace uninhabited. I saw the streams converging and one stream was smaller and it looked kind of polluted. I was left with the sense that it was not really an ideal place to go to. I did see some signs of civilization there such as next to the stream was paved roads and I could see the metal shoulder barriers of the road. There was high weeds on the banks of the streams and I was using a weed trimmer to cut it down but I stopped perhaps half way through. Other people were around but that is vague. A scene that seems important and that I have thought about several times is that at some point I was on top of a boat that had a white cover over it and I think the boat was on a trailer and I could see myself as I adjusted cargo straps that stretched over the white cover of that boat and somewhere below a woman was looking up at me as I was on top of the boat and she was speaking to me and I cannot recall now, if I ever did, what she said but I do recall that I asked her why she was telling me any of the information she was telling me and I think I responded to her that she needed to tell the police what she was saying. I don't recall anything else about that dream, although there are some other details that don't seem important to note here.
I do not recall now precisely when I had that dream but I think that was right around the time I was having those dreams during that period when I wrote about that dream where I was standing at the ATM at the Southcenter Mall and the police car drove up and I thought the reason it was there was so I could here the message being broadcast over the police radio circuits.

Wait a minute. I had that wrong yesterday.
Something I just heard on the radio a few minutes ago reminded me that I had seen Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in a dream before and her appearance was her literal self as I understood in the dream. I was sitting on a sofa and I was in a place I don't recognize and I can still visualize and she served me a refreshment and I have thought about that many times but now I forget what I was thinking about specifically as she stood there. Naturally I would say "Thank you" but I don't think I did say that. She never did speak in the dream and after she handed me the cup she went back to her desk which was behind me and the sofa and she continued working on some documents. I heard some dialog from another man and woman just after that but I am not really certain if they were in the same room we were in although I could visualize them to a certain extent. I thought about this after I heard something on the radio just a few minutes ago and I do not record here certain specific details about that dream.

I had some kind of dream about being on a bus but there only seemed to be one seat on the bus or something like that. That is confusing now that I think more about it after waking up. But that particular scene that I remember among many others I do not seemed to be heavy on aviation. There was dialog about a blue flight suit. There was dialog with air traffic controllers and there was some dialog about how the aircraft we were flying in was a bumblebee, although it was only referred to in the dream a a bee. After waking up, the flight suit reminds me of the Blue Angels flight suit

I can't remember now all the details in the dream, but I had a very clear and detailed dream a few hours ago where I was wearing a NASA astronaut flight suit. I remember thinking about details of that flight suit. It was orange and I remember thinking that it was similar to a standard U.S. Navy flight suit but the astronaut flight suit had the metal collar on it for the pressurized helmet. There were other details I can't quite articulate now. I can still visualize myself wearing that flight suit and I was walking through the streets in a city but I don't recognize where I was. I can vaguely remember seeing some other people there. I don't recognize the city but it reminds me of walking through the streets of Seattle. There might be other details that I have forgotten.
