Dr. Morbius: How ironic that a simple scholar, with no ambition, beyond a modest measure of seclusion, should out of the clear sky, find himself besieged by an army of fellow creatures, all grimly determined to be of service.

Trump clashes with 'rude, terrible person' Jim Acosta of CNN

David Knowles Editor,Yahoo News November 7, 2018

In his first press conference since Republicans lost control of the House of Representatives, President Trump clashed with what he called “a hostile media,” including a heated back and forth with CNN reporter Jim Acosta.

Acosta began by challenging Trump’s assertion that a caravan of Central American migrants making its way on foot through Mexico to the U.S. border represented an “invasion.”

“I consider it to be an invasion,” Trump responded.

Acosta accused the president of attempting to frighten voters ahead of the midterms with ads depicting the migrant caravan as invaders.

“I think you should let me run the country. You run CNN, and if you did it well, your ratings would be much better,” Trump scolded Acosta.

Acosta then attempted to ask a follow-up question, only to be told by the president, “That’s enough.”

Acosta persisted. Trump repeated, “That’s enough!” and attempted to call on another reporter, all the while becoming more impatient.

“Mr. President, I have one other question on the Russia investigation. Are you concerned that you may have-”

Trump interrupted Acosta. “I’m not concerned about anything with the Russian investigation because it’s a hoax. That’s enough. Put down the mic,” he said, stepping away from the podium in apparent frustration.

“I tell you what, CNN should be ashamed of itself having you working for them,” he said. “You are are a rude, terrible person. You shouldn’t be working for CNN. You’re a very rude person. The way you treat Sarah Huckabee is horrible, and the way you treat other people are horrible. You shouldn’t treat people that way.”

Wednesday’s event, which began with the president framing Tuesday’s election results as a victory for himself and the Republican party, was Trump’s first planned, open-ended press conference at the White House since February 2017, and only the second since he took office.

When Trump moved on to NBC’s Peter Alexander, the reporter defended Acosta, calling the president’s description of him “unfair.”

“Well, I’m not a big fan of yours either,” Trump quipped, adding, “You aren’t the best.”

That brought Acosta to his feet again.

“Just sit down, please,” Trump told Acosta, who asked the president off mic about his description of the media as “the enemy of the people.”

“Well, when you report fake news — no, when you report fake news, which CNN does a lot — you are the enemy of the people,” a fuming Trump said before wandering away from the podium again.

As more clashes with reporters followed, Trump, exasperated but energized, summed up what is sure to be repeated at the rallies where chants of “CNN sucks!” have become a favorite chorus.

“It’s such a hostile media. It’s so sad,” Trump said.

Quotes

Dr. Morbius: In times long past, this planet was the home of a mighty, noble race of beings who called themselves the Krell. Ethically and technologically they were a million years ahead of humankind, for in unlocking the mysteries of nature they had conquered even their baser selves, and when in the course of eons they had abolished sickness and insanity, crime and all injustice, they turned, still in high benevolence, upwards towards space. Then, having reached the heights, this all-but-divine race perished in a single night, and nothing was preserved above ground.

Quotes

Commander Adams: What is the Id?

Dr. Morbius: [frustrated] Id, id, id, id, id!

[calming down]

Dr. Morbius: It's a... It's an obsolete term. I'm afraid once used to describe the elementary basis of the subconscious mind.

Commander Adams: [to himself] Monsters from the id...

Dr. Morbius: Huh?

Commander Adams: Monsters from the subconscious. Of course. That's what Doc meant. Morbius. The big machine, 8,000 miles of klystron relays, enough power for a whole population of creative geniuses, operated by remote control. Morbius, operated by the electromagnetic impulses of individual Krell brains.

Dr. Morbius: To what purpose?

Commander Adams: In return, that ultimate machine would instantaneously project solid matter to any point on the planet, In any shape or color they might imagine. For *any* purpose, Morbius! Creation by mere thought.

Dr. Morbius: Why haven't I seen this all along?

Commander Adams: But like you, the Krell forgot one deadly danger - their own subconscious hate and lust for destruction.

Dr. Morbius: The beast. The mindless primitive!

U.N. Boycott Has Belgrade Angry at U.S.

By CRAIG R. WHITNEY

Published: March 04, 1993

With consumer prices tripling each month because of economic sanctions against Serbia, Panaskeva Babic's pension of 155,000 dinars a month is not enough to live on.

On Tuesday she stood in front of a bank offering to spare someone the misery of standing in line all night to pick up a monthly interest payment, a service for which she was asking 10 German marks, or about $6.50, the value of her monthly pension.

The few private banks pay 200 percent a year for deposits in dinars, and about 50 percent for deposits in marks, rates that attract so many customers that all-night lines are unavoidable.

"If I'm lucky enough to find someone, I'll be here for the next 24 hours," Mrs. Babic said, as she wrapped her scarf tight against the snow beginning to fall from a leaden sky. Her son was in his last year at the university, she said, and unless she did this they could not survive. Who, Exactly, Is the Bad Guy?

The sanctions have clearly made Serbs aware that they are in a grave crisis.

"Very soon the people will have to rise up, because they cannot live," said Radoslav Stojanovic, a leader of the opposition Serbian Democratic Party. Two years ago, on March 9, 1991, thousands of people did demonstrate against the Serbian government

It's Time to Recognize That Milosevic Is the Problem

By Christopher Bennett

Published: August 22, 1998

SARAJEVO, Bosnia-Herzegovina— It's déjà vu all over again: ethnic violence in the former Yugoslavia, streams of refugees fleeing the fighting and a procession of diplomats beating a path to the door of Slobodan Milosevic, the Yugoslav president and butcher of the Balkans.

More than seven years after the beginning of the wars of Yugoslav dissolution, it seems that the international approach to the conflict has not changed one iota. No statesman is prepared to accept the political risk involved in tackling the root of the problem.

On March 9, 1991, frustration within Serbia boiled over and Belgrade rose against Mr. Milosevic. Indeed, the first person to be killed by the Yugoslav Army in the year that full-scale hostilities broke out in the former Yugoslavia was not a Slovene, not a Croat, not a Bosnian Muslim but a Serb student caught among the anti-Milosevic protesters that day.

Yugoslavia: Mass Bedlam in Belgrade

After a turbulent week of protests, one Serbian leader resigns and another sees his grip on power weakened

By James L. Graff/Belgrade Monday, Mar. 25, 1991

Serbia, Yugoslavia's largest republic, has spent months poised on the brink of conflict with neighboring Croatia on behalf of the ethnic Serbs living there. But last week, the most harrowing for Yugoslavia since the end of World War II, Serbia was fighting battles entirely within its own borders. In a scenario that seems to have become a rite of passage in the new Europe, the people of the republic were pitted against an autocratic regime, Serbia's communist government. The showdown came in the capital, Belgrade, where anticommunist demonstrations paralyzed the city center for three tense days and nights

Details about my recent sleep are very fuzzy today. Can't remember for sure when I woke up. 3 am maybe. Or maybe shortly after midnight, can't really remember as I usually can. Remember dreaming something about driving my Jeep. Then I returned to it where it was parked in a parking lot after I was traveling through some passageways, hallways in a transit facility maybe. The only part I remember clearly is where a woman, I assume was my imaginary girlfriend asked me out for drinks or something. I told her we needed to keep it really casual though because all I had to wear was sweatpants. Kind of the downside to dating a homeless person I reflect now as I write this. She told me she would wear something with holes in it. I hope that was her in my dream, although the woman in the dream seemed to be someone unfamilar though. But I have noticed that happening with other people I know. They are represented, somehow, by a different person, but I think of them as someone specific. I feel like that is part of the manipulation. I have noticed something similar in real dreams, but I don't think it is the same here. I think they are disquising themselves in my dream for some reason. Anyway, if it really was her, she actually doesn't have to worry about dressing down if we were to go out. Of course, if I have my way, it would be a moot point because why would I want to go out with her when I am in such an ugly situation? At the minimum, I would want to be back to work so that I have regained some independence. And hey, next time you are in my dreams, dear imaginary girlfriend, how about wearing a bikini? Red would be good, or yellow maybe. That would be sweet!

Stargate SG-1 - Children of the Gods - television series premiere Season 1 Episode 1 - Sunday 27 July 1997

Episode Summary

The System Lord Apophis launches an attack through the Stargate, tucked away by the military after the events of the movie, and the SGC program is reactivated and given a new objective - seek out and find the alien invaders and defeat them. Jack O'Neill is called out of retirement and sent to locate Daniel Jackson on Abydos.

(from internet transcript of incomplete dialog)

Apophis' dungeon, at the back of the chamber. O'Neill hoists himself up to a tiny window, peering out. There's no glass to shatter, but he's blocked by a metal lattice. He drops back down to the floor, where Skaara is standing, looking out in case any guards notice. Daniel and Carter watch from a distance.

CARTER: So Ra isn't dead after all.

JACKSON: It wasn't Ra. It was Apophis.

CARTER: Who?

JACKSON: Um... it's from Egyptian mythology. Ra was the sun god who ruled the day, Apophis was the serpent god, Ra's rival, who ruled the night. It's right out of the Book of the Dead. They're living it.

O'Neill and Skaara continue along the back wall. O'Neill is still trying to scout out a weak point in the wall or a window that will budge.

SKAARA: We will save Sha're?

O'NEILL: (still checking wall) I can't promise you anything at the moment.

SKAARA: (grabs his shoulder, stops him) But you're a great warrior! We defeated Ra together!

O'NEILL: Yeah, yeah, I know, but take a look around here. Look at what we're up against.

At the defiant look Skaara gives him, O'Neill pats him on the shoulder.

O'NEILL: We'll try.

The dungeon doors are opening again. Seeing that something's about to happen, O'Neill takes Skaara aside towards the center of the room. The crowd is gathering at the foot of the steps, apprehensively trying to see what's going on. The Serpent Guards file in, forming two lines on each side of the doorway along the walls. Teal'c enters, standing in the center of the threshold, his helmet gone. The lines of Jaffa flanking him step forward, so that they are all lined up at the head of the stairs.

TEAL'C: Sha'ka ha! Kree hol mel, Goa'uld!

O'NEILL: What did he say?

SKAARA: (quietly, dreading this) They are going to choose.

CARTER: Choose what?

SKAARA: Who will be the children of the gods.
