BLUE TREE
Phoebe Cates Kline opened Blue Tree in the fall of 2005! Phoebe's dream was "to have it be like a general store but according to me." :)A surprise around every turn, the shop has built up a loyal following not only in the neighborhood of Carnegie Hill but all over the world. Known for its eclectic and inspired selection of women's clothing and jewelry, Blue Tree also carries unique and carefully chosen items in home, gift, fragrance, music, delicacies, etc. There are no rules. And we are always re-inventing, recreating in the hopes of delighting.
BLUE TREE IN THE MEDIA
Here are some of the nice things the press, and the blogging community are saying about Blue Tree:

Some Chocolate With Your Diamonds?
By ALEX KUCZYNSKI NOV. 24, 2005
IN 1982 girls would tell you they liked the movie "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" for the comingofage story, for the plot lines about good girls and bad girls and for sweet, selfeffacing Judge Reinhold. Boys liked the movie for the scene in which Phoebe Cates emerges from the swimming pool in that puckered red bikini, her taut abdomen flashing with water droplets, her lips glossy, her dark hair as sleek as a porpoise's.
The secret was that for us girls, the draw was also Ms. Cates: she was a figure of aspiration. We had studied her for years (or what seemed like years) in the backtoschool pages of Seventeen magazine, and now she had become a movie star, playing the supercool girl who knew all. We nursed the small hope that maybe if we all ate handfuls of Dexatrim and quit eating Chipwiches and lathered ourselves in baby oil and iodine, we might look like her someday. Flashforward twoplus decades. Ms. Cates's career was sidelined by marriage and motherhood. She is married to Kevin Kline; they have two children. She lives on the Upper East Side. And with a friend, Lisa Matlin, she has become chatelaine of a gift boutique, Blue Tree, which opened in October at the former site of the Penny Whistle toy store.
In her new guise as uptown yummy mummy, Ms. Cates is again selling aspiration. Ms. Matlin told Vogue that she and Ms. Cates had grown "tired of going downtown to find that amazing birthday present."
