November 28, 1922: First Skywriting Ad over New York’s Times Square
The hot shot pilots of the RAF had amused themselves during their air drills during the Great War by blowing smoke out their exhaust and creating designs in the sky. It is not clear who first thought of creating messages in the sky, but they might have learned the technique from Art Smith, the American barnstormer who flew at the Panama-Pacific Exposition in San Francisco in 1915 and after attaching flares to his plane ended his dare-devil stunts by writing “Good night” in the sky.
Skywriting
It is documented that the first public use in America of skywriting as an advertising medium was made when Capt. Cyril Turner of the Royal Air Force travelled to New York City in 1922. While another RAF pilot, John Savage, escorted George Hill, the president of the American Tobacco Company, on the ground, Turner spelled out “Hello USA Call Vanderbilt 7200” in the sky high above Time’s Square.
The ad men on Madison Avenue were astounded by the public’s reaction. “VANDERBILT 7200” was the phone number of the hotel at which George Hill was staying, and in the next three hours the hotel switchboard lit up non-stop as eight operators fielded 47,000 telephone calls.
Following this display, Allan J. Cameron, along with Leroy Van Patten established the Skywriting Corporation of America at Curtiss Field. They acquired the patents for mixing the writing gas in the United States, and, although it was nothing more than light paraffin oil fed through the exhaust system, they controlled the market for years.
In 1923, using the Skywriting Corporation, the American Tobacco Company launched the first and very successful skywriting advertising campaign for Lucky Strike cigarettes, writing “L S M F T” (Lucky Strike Means Fine Tobacco) countless times across the skies of America. Pepsi-Cola Corporation became another of the longest-running contractors of skywriting; in the late 1930s to mid 1940s, it contracted or owned a total of 14 aircraft. In 1940 alone, it’s planes completed 2,225 sky writings over 48 states, Mexico, Canada, South America, and Cuba.

Flier Again Attracts Crowds by "Smoke Casting" From Plane.
Captain Cyril Turner, who interested the public Tuesday with his smoke "sky writing," yesterday repeated the demonstration. Hovering in his plane over Times Square and other points of the city, he aroused the curiousity of many by "smoke casting" a telephone number, asking those who could read to call up.
The number was that of a hotel whose press agent promptly issued a statement that 47,000 calls of inquiry had been received by seven operators in two and a half hours. Even telephone officials were amused when they were asked if such a feat was possible.

I dreamt a lot lately, but end up not remembering very much. The only dream segment I remember has a navy uniform theme to it. I just remember something about wearing the uniform and something about wearing the E-9 insignia. In the latest one, I remember something about an officer informing me that the recommended me for a high-profile military academy. But since I am too old now to attend someplace like Annapolis, the scenario may have occurred in the past, especially because sometimes I see things that suggest several officer paygrade, with LCDR the highest rank I have seen myself associated with.

He crashed, and that was the end of it. But that wasn't the end of it. The raft was found. Rickenbacker was saved. He became the president of an airlines company. I've got dozens of items like that. Men talked about who never existed. Men who existed and not even mentioned. Historical events that i know happened a certain way somehow, according to the encyclopedia, didn't happen, or happened another way. The things i remember are not delusions. They're the legitimate recollections of things as i remember them. But somehow, some way, this world seems to have turned upside down for me. Well, not in every way, you understand. Uh by and large, the people are the same. The names, the streets, the mutual recollections we all have of people and events. It's as if there were there were another world parallel to mine. As if this world were almost a twin, except for some minor differences that happened somewhere along the line of evolution.
Bob, for the love of heaven
do you want to follow that line of reasoning? Because, if you do, there are a couple of built-in conditions that go along with it. Conditions that i don't think you or anyone else wants to admit. First and foremost, they happen to be that if all this is true- if you suddenly uncovered a theory that there are two earths, two sets of people, two histories- and you somehow, inexplicably, crossed over to the other dimension- then you're not who we think you are. And we're not who you think we are.

With a cloak of secrecy being placed over the entire project.
Millions were watching the orbital flight on television when, suddenly, the pictures were interrupted with a terse announcement that no further coverage would be forthcoming.
General stanley eaton announced late this afternoon that further information would be forthcoming at a later date but that, for the moment, all aspects of astronaut gaines' flight would continue to be top secret pending further investigation of data.
