Trump, Nuclear Bombs and Hurricanes
Today, I received calls from two media outlets asking about Trump's supposed suggestion that the U.S. might weaken hurricanes by exploding nuclear weapons inside of them.
Now there is some debate on whether he said they in the first place: the story was released by Axios, some kind of media outlet, with President Trump denying he even said it. Many media folks see this as a great opportunity to embarrass the President, so perhaps some of the stories are not quite even handed.

Episode Summary
The discovery of an outpost, left behind by the Ancients in the most unlikely of places, leads a new Stargate team to the distant Pegasus galaxy. Once there, they discover a planet of humans being decimated by a terrible alien race know as the Wraith.

WRAITH HALL. The guards bring Sumner into a large hall. In the middle of the hall is a long dining table with food on it, though the food doesn't look very appetising. Sitting in a chair at one end is a skeletal, ancient-looking man. He looks like he's been dead for centuries. It's also clear that this is Toran. Sumner looks at him for a while, then walks away, looking around the room. The ceiling appears to be very high but is obscured by mist. Suddenly a female Wraith -- similar in appearance to the male Wraith but with long dark red hair and wearing a long white shift dress -- drops down out of nowhere and lands on the floor behind Sumner. He spins round to face her.
WRAITH Queen: You must feel hunger by now. (She snarls.)
WRAITH HALL.
WRAITH Queen: What do you call yourself?
SUMNER: Colonel Marshall Sumner, United States Marine Corps.
WRAITH Queen: So little fear. Is it valour ... or ignorance?

Cloning author sees 'sour grapes'
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - A letter written over the name of David M. Rorvik, author of a book alleging the first human cloning, attacks his critics as "pikers in the sour grapes sweepstakes," the San Francisco Examiner reported Wednesday.
The two-page letter, on Rorvik's personal stationery, was postmarked San Diego and reportedly was sent to an Examiner reporter who wrote an earlier story on Rorvik's book, "In His Image: The Cloning of a Man."
Controversy over the book started about two weeks ago when an advertisement for the novel appeared in a trade publication. Rorvik has not been available for comment. Requests to his publisher, the J.B. Lippincott Co., his agent and his mother for interviews with Rorvik have been turned down. Rorvik had been living in San Francisco, but his landlord said last week that Rorvik moved out of his apartment about a month ago.
The book, due for publication March 31, alleges that Rorvik helped an unidentified millionaire arrange to have a son through cloning, in which a being is genetically duplicated from an individual cell. Several scientists have said that human cloning is virtually impossible today.

Merle Antony Tuve
AMERICAN GEOPHYSICIST
Merle Antony Tuve, (born June 27, 1901, Canton, S.D., U.S.—died May 20, 1982, Bethesda, Md.), American research physicist and geophysicist who developed the radio-wave exploration method for the ionosphere. The observations he made provided the theoretical foundation for the development of radar.
With the American physicist Gregory Breit, Tuve in 1925 succeeded in measuring the height of the Earth’s ionosphere by bouncing short-pulse radio waves off its ionized layer of air and determining the amount of time taken by the echoes to return. In 1926 Tuve investigated long-range seismic refraction (change in the path through the Earth of a disturbance as it passes through material of varying composition). After receiving his doctorate in physics from Johns Hopkins University (1926), he joined the Department of Terrestrial Magnetism of the Carnegie Institution of Washington (Washington, D.C.), where he used high-voltage accelerators to define the structure of the atom. He verified the existence of the neutron, measured the bonding forces in atomic nuclei, produced beta and gamma radiation and high-velocity protons, and researched radioastronomy and artificial radioactivity.
Tuve served as director of the Department of Terrestrial Magnetism at the Carnegie Institution from 1946 to 1966. In 1946 he was awarded the U.S. Presidential Medal of Merit and made a commander in the Order of the British Empire. He was knighted in 1948.
