I arranged for Kerry Burgess and her to meet. Deputy US Marshal Kerry Burgess had been shot in the shoulder by gunfire from a fugitive in 1993 and she was caring for him in the months as he recovered from the injury.
The fugitive was killed by the return gunfire from Deputy US Marshal Kerry Burgess.

Murray seeks $1 billion for VA

Patty Murray Vs. Adams -- State Lawmaker Is First Democrat To Go For Senate Seat

OLYMPIA - State Sen. Patty Murray, who made her political entrance just four years ago with an upset election to the Legislature, now has a loftier goal: toppling fellow Democrat Sen. Brock Adams.
Murray, who represents the Shoreline area north of Seattle, said yesterday she will run for the U.S. Senate in 1992 as a self-styled "voice for middle-class families."
She said she would file election papers next week, making her the first Democrat to jump in against Adams. She probably won't be the last.
Former U.S. Rep. Mike Lowry of Seattle, who has a large and loyal following among party liberals, also is expected to run in what is shaping up to be a bruising Democratic primary. Lowry says he won't officially announce his 1992 election plans until after New Year's Day.
But he said he would drop a broad hint tonight when he mails out a fund-raising letter to 25,000 supporters in which "I try to remove any questions about when and if I run, what I will run for."
Several Democratic insiders say Lowry has, in fact, made up his mind to seek the Senate seat that has eluded him in two previous races.
Murray said her candidacy would stress family issues: improving schools, better access to health care and higher education, and tax relief for the middle class.
"It's not just Brock, it's the whole U.S. Senate," she said. "It's very clear there is a void back there and I'm going to fill it. Nobody back there represents the interests of ordinary families, who are in big trouble."
