To the Sun!

JOURNAL ARCHIVE: 11/19/10 5:05 PM
I knew the hours of darkness are longest this time of year but I never really thought about how at this particular time of year at this location there are right at 15 hours of darkness every day. That peak should be close to 16 hours per day of darkness when winter solstice arrives and I think that is next month.

Winter solstice seems to be about five weeks from now. Unless I am mistaken, the number of hours of darkness each day increases until that point and from then on, the number of hours of darkness each day will slowly decrease.

According to the daily averages values on weather.com for 98056, there will be 15 hours 34 minutes of darkness from sunset on 17 December 2010 until sunrise the next day. That seems to be the peak of the time of darkness hours this time of year.
